If I rent a movie on my iPad would I be able to watch it instantly or I have to connect to my Mac first?

I'm out if town with my iPad only so if I rent a movie on my iPad's iTunes would I be able to watch it instantly or I have to connect it to my Mac first?

Yes, I do it regularly. I can't think of a reason why you should have had to have connected your iPad to your computer before watching a television snow.
