If my iphone 3gs needs replacing, will they upgrade it to a 4?

Basically, I think the microphone on my iphone 3gs is broken. Whenever people ring me, I can hear them but they cannot hear me, or it's extremely quiet.
If this is the case, will they replace the iphone with another 3gs? Or could there be a chance they'll upgrade it to a 4?
Thanks

Replacements (warranty or Out of warranty) are for the exact same model, color, and capacity.
There are rare circumstances where a user will get an upgrade due to a store being out of specific model for in there service stock, but this is not something to be expected.
If you want a newer model, buy one.

    Hi there Katherine,
I have an article here that addresses this error code and can give you a few more troubleshooting suggestions for this issue:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,
    Braden

    No such message occurs.
Are you trying to state that it says "Unable to activate"?
If so, this typically indicates the device has been hacked or jailbroken.  If that is the case, no support can be provided via these forums.

  • Bought my iPhone 5 online, it needs repairs but apple says it has been replaced. will they still repair it?

Long story short the iPhone heated up and since then has random grey lines down the middle. It "controls itself" or won't work whenever those lines appear. Apple asked for the serial number however it says it has been replaced. I bought it online so i'm not too sure what to do now. will apple still repair it?

You can ask, but most likely answer is Apple will not repair it. That message
means the iPhone has been replaced and should have been turned back into
Apple, but it was resold instead. If you bought from eBay or other service that
offers buyer protection, start a claim for a refund unless the iPhone was described
    as replaced.

  • Have an iPhone 3GS, and it will not restore.  It says (-1) error and won't restore.  I updated to iOS 5.0.1, and have the latest version of iTunes.  Every time I plugged my phone in last week it would crash and I would have to connect it to iTunes.  Help!

Last week I updated my iTunes, updated to iOS 5.0 and ever since I did this my phone has been going nuts.  Any time I plug it into a charger I get a screen that tells me I need to connect to iTunes.  I have had to restore it multiple times in order for it to work.
I've tried doing resets, restoring to factory-everything that I can find online to do.  I've spoken with ATT tech support and done everything they've said to do regarding my greyed out wifi, my phone only working on 3G, and other issues.
The first iPhone 3GS I got had a defective camera, so ATT replaced it free of charge.  I've had this one for a year, and quite frankly cannot afford a new one.
If anyone knows anything I can do to fix it, I would really appreciate it.

11.1 is now the most recent  iTunes. Downloading it may take a bit since everyone got hit today with the need to update their iTunes on the very same day the iOS update came out and you have to update iTunes to update the iOS.
YOu should still be able to charge it without updating iTunes.

  • IPhone 3GS (iOS 5) will not sync, stuck on *backing up* in iTunes 10.6.3.25

I recently updated iTunes to the latest update for Windows, since then, whenever I connect my phone and try to sync it just gets stuck in *backing up* for ages.. if I leave it it will be in backing up for hours.  I cannot sync my phone or add any content now.  I've been told to try and click the *X* in the progress window at the top of iTunes - but doing this does nothing but freeze iTunes for a few minutes - then it continues to *back up*... frustrating.  Can anyone help?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if the problem has been resolved.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • IPhone 3gs needs to be restored but won't

I just a new iPhone 3gs and I hooked it up to my computer and updated my iTunes. Once I did that it told me I had to restore my iPhone, and I tried to do so, but once it gets to the end it says "could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (14)". My phone will only turn on and off, and all it has it the iTunes symbol on it and the end of the usb plug-in on the screen. I can't do anything! Can somebody please help? I don't know what to do. I do not have a phone, and the nearest Apple or iphone carrier is 45 minutes away.

Make sure your PC time and time zone are set correctly, you'll get this error if they are not.
Make sure IE is enabled, you'll get that error message if it's not:
1.Navigate to the Control Panel by clicking on Start, followed by Control Panel (or Settings and then Control Panel, depending on how you're setup).
2.In the Control Panel window, open Add or Remove Programs.
Note: In Microsoft Windows XP, depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the Add or Remove Programs icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.
3.In the Add or Remove Programs window, click on the Set Program Access and Defaults button on the menu on the left.
4.Choose the Custom option in the Choose a configuration: area.
5.In the Choose a default Web browser: area, make sure there is a check in the check box next to Internet Explorer.
6.Click OK. Windows XP will apply your changes and the Add or Remove Programs window will close automatically.

  • Iphone 3gs.. replacement?

I had my original iphone 3gs paid with my amex then water damaged. AMEX covered the phone due to the buyer protection policy and i had my phone replaced with what i am assuming is a refurb. I've noticed that on my refurb, sometimes the touch screen is non-responsive and the text noise, unlock noise, typing noise, etc is sometimes really low then eventually gets back up to normal. Will apple replace a refurb or is there no warranty with the new phone?

iphones have a one year warranty.

  • If I bring my own new iPhone screen to apple will they install it?

If I bring my own iPhone 4 screen will they replace it for me or do I have to buy the screen there?

absolutely not.  Apple doesn't repair phones, they replace them.  You can get your entire phone replaced for $149, but they will NOT replace your screen.

  • HT1222 Where do I find an actual download page, so I can physically download the ios 5.1.1 for my iPhone 3gs. It will not take the new ios 6

When I pluged my iPhone into my lap top pc. My i tunes recognized that it needed updating, and when it started to up date, about half way through, an error poped up, causing my iPhone to stop functioning.
The reason is, because it is notcompatible with the new ios 6, the phone can not be up dated any more. Now this is what I need. Because I can not find it, I need to find the actual ios 5.1.1 download, so I can get my iPhone 3gs to opperate again? Please help, I need to find the ios 5.1.1 EXE file, so I can download it back onto my phone, is this possible?

It is not possible.  Further, the iPhone 3GS is capable of running iOS 6.

  • Hi, I have an iphone 3GS from HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out! When I checked my backup file in Outlook Express it was also wiped out!!! What can I do now?

Hi, I have an iphone 3GS purchased in HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out. When I checked my backed up file in Outlook Express, it was also wiped out during the synchronization. I tried to restore from backup on iTunes but still, the contact was not there anymore. I have contacted your HK Apple Hotline and talked to a technical support called TIMMY LO, he said there is nothing to do with them and he refused to provide any support to recover my contact, he even said I should try to pay extra money to 3rd party supplier and see what they can do to my iphone, despite the fact that this could be caused by the pre-mature release of 4.3.3 when a bug still hasn't been fixed. I am very disappointed at Apple's service, especially considering that I have been a loyal customer of iphone / ipod touch in the past few years. I need an official reply from Apple on this! How can Apple be so irresponsible to their own firmware failure??

  • Iphone 3gs problem with network after upgrading to 5.1.1

    Hi...
I have Iphone 3gs and requested official unlock from my provider. They said they did it and all I have to do is connect it with iTunes.
I had ios 3.x and upgraded to 5.1.1 through iTunes.
But now after upgrade, my phone is not unlocked and niether works with original card.
3G network is one second ok, after one second drops to 1 line, and after that I got No network.
I managed to make call, but that call only last for 1 second.

I wouldn't assume that.  Don't know anyone who changed carriers without canceling the original.  The intermittent connections he describes are typical of SIM card issues.
The point is that your statement that "updating is not enough" is incorrect.  When he "updated" to iOS 5, a full restore was already done. If there were errors during that process, restoring again might help, but its not necessary to restore.
