If you are a professional, FCPX is unusable

First of all, I'm not in the target group for this app. I'm a video professional, I run a post production studio. This is, despite the name, an upgraded iMovie and has little to do with Final Cut. It has tons of more features than iMovie, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an app for the beginner, hobbyist and not the video professional. If it was called iMovie Pro I would not object. But calling this Final Cut, giving this app the name of this brilliant, but aged, peace of software is nothing short of misleading marketing.
We cannot use an app which main screen is dominated by the message "Import iMovie events". We cannot use an app where you use drop down menus to select resolution. This makes me concerned, what will this leave us? I decided to leave Avid behind long ago, and I definitely haven't changed my mind. Premiere? Maybe in the future, but it still feels too clumsy. I guess we have to stick to good, but flawed and old, Final Cut Pro 7. Just the way we use QuickTime Pro 7 and not QuickTime X.
When Vista came I decided that we couldn't use that and we couldn't stick with XP forever. So we made the switch to OS X, despite the fact that 3D and compositing apps were lagging behind on the system. We did it because we felt there was no future in Windows for us, we couldn't stick with an old system. Now, sadly, I feel the exact same about Final Cut, except I have no other system to go to.
If you are a video professional, I strongly advice you not to buy this app, despite the low price. If you are a hobbyist that like iMovie and want more powerful features, you will love this app.
And, Apple, if you find ONE video editor working on a professional level (no, not a wedding photographer or hobbyist music video maker) that does not agree with the above, please let him explain to me why I'm wrong.

I have been an Editor and Assitant editor working in network television for many many years now. After working with FCP a few times on some independent projects and being fed up with Avid's pomposity and arrogance I started urging shows to start using FCP. And in fact, a few years ago convinced a very prominent production company that it was time to ditch the idea of renting Avids everytime they went into post production on a show and to take the costs of a one season's worth of Avid rentals in order to purchase their own Macs running FCP and an XSan. I worked in concert with Apples Pro Apps point people to show the Producers how a tapeless workflow in FCP would not only save them a large amount of money in equipment, but the additional control over delivery would also save them thounds per episode by doing more of the finish work in-house rather than at a costly post production facility. Imagine my disappointment to discover that my loyalty to, and promotion of, Apple's products is being rewarded by by having Apple make that progression towards FCP pointless in the long run. While for the time being, we can certainly use FCP7 to continue to professionalt cut and finish a show, that will come end rapidly as support dries up for FCP and future OS's leave it behind. There is no way I can tell that same producer at this point that we can do shows in what I now view as iCut Enthusiast. I'd have to tell everyone on the Post team that they need to jump through hoops finding workarounds for the same things that were virtually effortless to do before.
Apple has frequently missed opportunites to corner the profesional film and television market and this move proves why they will never do so. They have no conept or concern for what a truly professional tool set needs to be. They have done what Avid folks have been predicting for years. Dumbing down the product in order to sell more software and promote the use of their hardware by bring things to their iOS world.

    Wow, where should I even started?
    We brought a 55 in TV from the local store last Sunday, and schedule a delivery yesterday (6/6/2015).
    They called us the night before delivery date, to confirm the delivery on Saturday from 1:30- 3:30pm.
    We waited until 3pm, and finally received a call saying "they were delayed a little bit", and moved the time to 5:30-6:30pm. Ok, not good, but we can understand.
    But of course, they didn't show up on time. We decided to call them again at 6:22pm, and were told they were 45 minutes away...
    7:30pm, after a hour, we called them AGAIN, and was told they are 25 mins away. 
    We had another delivery scheduled from Lowes at 8pm. Lowes showed up on time, and installed our fridge and washer/dryer professionally. They left around 8:30pm. 
    WHERE IS OUR TV FROM BEST BUY THEN???? Don't they supposed to show up before the Lowes???
    We called them again and again, but nobody answered...well, I guess it is a Saturday, and they went home WITHOUT even bother to tell us.
    Last time we spoke, you told me you are 25 mins away. Is this a lie? or you just decide to go back to your sweet home after we talk on the phone?!
    Sunday (6/7), I called the warehouse again in the morning, but no one answers, the voicemail is full as well (So I think we are NOT the only one experienced this ridicuous issue). Then we called the 1-888 number, and explained what happened. The customer rep on the phone couldn't get hold of the local warehouse neither, and told us to call back within several hours. (They did give us a case number: {removed per forum guidelines} though) We called back before noon, and was told they are not open on Sunday, and they don't know when will be get our TV delivered, maybe Monday morning.
    Ok, here is the thing, we have to work Mon- Fri, that's why we requested to deliver on Saturday. And come on, Best Buy, it is just a TV, it is not huge appliances that take you that much time.
    I can see why there was delay, ( not saying we were happy about it though...) But you could at least called us to let us know before you went home on our scheduled delivery date!!!! And were all those "45 mins away", "25 mins away" things lies????

  • Adobe 7 is not compatible with Vista, If you are not satisfied with that answer...

    Unfortunately for what I do for a living I can't use a mac, cannot WAIT till they do become compatible or I just switch professions!
    I have adobe 7Pro because I MUST create PDF documents for my business, however when my laptop crashed for the 3rd time in less than a year and I was NOT about to pay HP $400 to reboot it, instead I had fun and smashed it (like in Office Space) and went out and bought a new Sony Vaio.  This laptop is nice and all however now ALL new computers come with Gates newest form of a rip off, VISTA, which had so many issues they release a new update for it every day and professional companies wouldn't touch it, so they FORCED it on us small business owners and personal computer users, such CRAP! (If you notice all large corporations use XP, there is no Vista for large corps, there's a reason for that...
    The people that do NOT have the $ to keep upgrading and paying for FIX ITS online from some unknown who has figured a work around are forced to use this crap!!!  I'm BEYOND anoyed... ANYWHO I am installing my adobe 7pro and every time I open it I get asked to "ACTIVATE AGAIN" so I call in to get a NEW Activation code and a minute later it does it AGAIN... SOOO, I get Tech support and the IDIOT in India literally READS to me the following statements: 
    "Adobe 7 is not compatible with Vista" 
    I tell him, that's a lie because my friend uses it on vista.
    He proceeds to READ to me "If you are not satisfied with that answer, then acrobat no longer supports Adobe 7". WTF?!?!? If I am not SATISFIED with that answer!??! aparantly he was NOT supposed to read THAT part!!! Laughing I proceed to tell him to piss off and hang up on him because I am SOOO tired of all these damn AMERICAN companies outsourcing their customer service to some 3rd world country where they pay these people $5 a week and have them just read from a ******* script for your problems, that is NOT technical support, that's BULL CRAP!  I know 4 yr olds that read english better!!!
    I am sick and tired of it... I might just take advantage of the 14 day return policy and go to Apple and buy a mac next week and change my profession sooner than I had planned JUST TO AVOID USING THIS CRAP!!! ADOBE YOU SUCK!!! Microsoft SUCKS!!!
    If you run into this problem do what I am doing, go to Apple and buy a mac, we need to stand up against all this and pay attention to the COMMERCIALS that are VERY TRUE and drop Microsoft, IBM, anything Gates related and stop using their products!!!

    I'm just so frustrated, its bad enough my other laptop wasn't even 2 yrs old
    yet and I've spent $800 to have it fixed twice already, this 3rd time I was
    DONE... so I moved onto Sony, but this Vista just is making my life a living
    hell, I just spent a fortune on the laptop, and now I have to buy Adobe 9
    when my adobe 7 isn't even 2 yrs old... ugh... its just very frustrating and
    nerve racking and is costing more than I make in a week in this business
    (real estate processing)... I should sell Microsoft for a living, I'd be a
    millionaire!
    My husband's Mac has been through hell and back physically, is 5 yrs old and
    we've never had to take it in for any upgrades or issues, its SO easy to
    use... why can't Microsoft be the same?!?!

  • Solved: message "You are not connected to the Internet" after idle sleep

    Summary: What worked for me was to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on my unused interface.
    The problem was that after my computer had been in sleep mode, Safari would say:
    "You are not connected to the Internet."
    or "softwareupdate -l" would say:
    "This computer’s Internet connection appears to be offline."
    Yet Firefox worked OK and traceroute also showed the connection was fine.
    Digging deeper (though only later, after I found the command), "scutil -r" indicated a problem with DNS lookup:
    $ scutil -r developer.apple.com
    Not Reachable
    $ scutil -r 17.254.2.129
    Reachable
    I'm using 10.6.6 on a Mini (model Macmini1,1), which has a wired ethernet connection on en0 and an AirPort on en1. I use the wired connection, but I also configured the AirPort just because, and then turned it off in the network preferences. I use a static (manually-configured) IPv4 address on en0 and DHCP on en1 (when it's up, which is only for experimenting). I don't use IPv6 as such, though I've left it enabled.
    I was initially confused, thinking the problem was intermittent, though it's not. I tended to assume that because the display had gone into standby the computer must be sleeping, without checking that the power light was dimming and brightening, indicating sleep mode. Later I found the "pmset -g" command to display the power management settings. Among the settings is:
    ttyskeepawake 1
    This means that if I had a shell session open in Terminal, which I did quite often when investigating the problem, the computer put itself into idle sleep later than if I didn't have the session open. The times in Energy Saver settings in System Preferences seem not to be very accurate anyway. For instance, with the default computer sleep and display sleep settings of 10 minutes and a shell session open, I've seen it take 17m25s for the display to blank and a further 14m16s for the computer to sleep, for a total of 31m41s.
    The problem only occurs after an idle wait. It doesn't occur after a software sleep (entered from the Sleep entry in the Apple menu or using the keyboard shortcut) or after pressing the power button momentarily.
    One way I found to fix the problem was to turn the AirPort on and then off again through Network Preferences (or the menu bar item). Later I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable also fixed the problem. I hoped to find a better way.
    What led me to this halfway house solution was noticing that if I turned the AirPort on and then off again, entries for en1 still remained in the routing table. These entries were for IPv6 link-local and multicast networks, as in this edited output from "netstat -nr":

    media: autoselect (<unknown type>)
    status: inactive
    I don't know if these observations are relevant, but anyway they led me to the solution (well, workaround). The way I finally fixed the problem was as follows.
    1. Create a new location in Network Preferences. (This isn't strictly necessary, but it allowed me to keep the AirPort configuration (including my wireless password) intact in the default Automatic location.)
    * Click on the Location pull-down
    * Click Edit Locations...
    * Click +
    * Enter new location name (I called mine Wired-static)
    2. Configure the Ethernet interface with its static address. (If using DHCP, I'd have skipped this step as DHCP is the default.)
    3. Go to the AirPort configuration (even though it's shown as Off).
    * Click on Advanced
    * Click on TCP/IP
    * Select Off for both IPv4 and IPv6
    4. After clicking Apply in Network Preferences, a new "Location" item appears in the Apple menu between "Dock" and "Recent Items". Select the new location. This setting sticks across boots.
    I hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation. Maybe if you use wireless it would help to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on the Ethernet interface?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset Network Settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - DId the iPod ever successfully connect to the network?
    - Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks?
    - Do other devices successfully connect with your network?

    Take it to an Apple Store and have it checked out. You could have a hardware issue there if the SIM is not being recognized.

  • BT YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!

    About 3 months ago BT did "upgrades" to the lines in our local area. Ever since then we have had connection issues when our telephone rings. The issues are random in nature, sometimes the connection doesn't drop, mostly it drops when the answering machine kicks in, and sometimes it drops as soon as the phone starts ringing.
    Over this period we have had at least 5 visits from technicians and every single time the technician runs the same tests in our house, finds there is a fault but can't locate it meaning the fault is in the lines outside somewhere, and then leaves us with the problem meaning we have to get in touch with call centres in India so that they can recommend sending another technician round to repeat the process.
    Trying to get this joke of a company to fix our problem is like trying to run through a brick wall! It is a ludicrous situation and I have lost all confidence in "British" Telecoms. There is a clear problem with the lines and you are aware of this problem, yet you have done nothing progressive to fix the issue. How can your company be so incompetent? 
    The worst thing is that I rely on a stable internet connection for my job. I am a professional poker player and haven't been able to play optimally since the problems began. It has now reached a point where I don't work altogether for fear of losing my connection.
    We've looked into changing providers as it is clear BT and their ape-like workforce aren't capable of solving this problem. Unfortunately almost all other providers rent the lines off BT so for anyone else suffering the same issues as us, when you go onto google and see people having these same issues, it is because they rent BT's lines. The only other company that uses their own lines, as far as we know, is Virgin. But we don't live in a Virgin area so they are not an option.
    Using a wireless internet method is not an option either as I require a highly stable wired connection for my line of work. I can't work because of these issues and it has got to the point now where I can feel myself slipping into a depression as a combined result of this predicament.
    BT, I hope you crumble and burn you inept **bleep**!

    Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

    Hi Claudius, Thanks for your reply, I use Firefox because like everything Microsoft Internet Explorer does what Microsoft wants it to do instead of what their Customer wants to do! As they now are by Forcing me to use Skype! However I am using Firefox 18.02 on Windows 7 Professional on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15 Laptop.. I live in a Rural Village where I receive usually less that 2Mbps with not much hope of fulfilling David Cameron's Promise of superfast Broadband for all by the end of 2013? But then that is a Politician's Promise! I really cannot remember where or when this undecipherable message occurred but on four occassions I had signed in and attempted to leave a question in different parts of this forum so I gave up and contacted you! This is my argument about Microsoft destroying the only thing that works correctly and replacing it with things that never work properly!!  Sorry I can't give you any more information, But as I said before Microsoft or skype in this instance give messages that are impossible to understand and even the professionals cannot work out what the problem is?  Why not a simple code that gives at least some idea where within the coding the problem occurred instead of an indecipheral message about a "Core Node"  Whatever that may be?

    Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

    To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
    Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Why am I stuck in a "you are logged out" loop while attempting to reinstall Adobe Creative Cloud (ACC)? I am able to log into the Creatrive cloud member portal.
    What gives.
    Also, I can change my password at the ACC portal.
    When prompted to login during installation the loop begins. I enter my username and password hit enter - click whir - and the same prompt reappears.
    No email is delivered (not in junk either) when I ask for info on reseting my password the only solution offered in the debilitating prompt.

    Are you on a managed network? Please navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db and trash it. Launch CC desktop and try to sign in.

    Note: Please disable anti virus if installed and then try to sign in.

    You can enable multiple login in two ways.
    goto SICF and open service.
    1.Navigate to default_host->sap->bc->bsp->sap->srm(double click on srm service)
    2.Open Error Pages tab and clcik on Configuration button.
    3.Check whether check for multiple logon is enabled.
    or
    goto RZ10
    To allow the user to have multiple login in SAP R/3, one have to set the Profile Parameters u201CLogin/disable_multi_gui_loginu201D OR u201CLogin/multi_login_usersu201D.
    1. Login/disable_multi_gui_login
    Controls whether multiple logins are enabled or disabled. 0 = enable 1 = disable
    2. Login/multi_login_users
    Here a list [user IDs] can be deposited that would allow users a multiple login even though the multi login is generally disabled. The multiple login information are stored in the table URSR41_MLD.

    How do you search the web while you are having a phone conversation? do you have to put the phone on speaker?

    You dont have to, but it is hard to listen and look at the screen at the same time.  You can also use a bluetooth headset or ear phone that came with the phone.  Remember you can not do both at the ame time on Verizon.

    By the way. Excuse me for my English. I am not a native speaker.
    I have a MacMini with Snow Leopard Server (10.6.7 since yesterday) wired to two iMacs (10.6.7), two PC's running Windows and a Time Capsule/Airport (7.5.2) which is wirelessly connected to a MacBook Air (10.6.7), iPad and iPhone.
    The PC's use file sharing (SMB) which works fine.
    The Server has some network accounts. Home dir is on the server.
    At one iMac, I can log in to a network account. E-mail, iCal on Server, sync with iPad and iPhone. Works fine.
    At the second iMac, I can NOT log in to any network account. Window shakes, saying "You are unable to log in to the user account at this time" and "Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred". In Terminal window, I can reach /Network/Servers/do.main.name/Users. Using the Finder, I can access all my files. If I shut down the first iMac, I can log in.
    At my MacBook, I can not log in to my network account. In Terminal window, I can Not reach /Network/Servers/do.main.name/Users. I get "Users: Host is down". But using Finder, I have access to all my files. Shutting down both iMacs doesn't help. Airport settings see to be correct.
    Where do I have to look. On the Server side? Using Server Admin and Workgroup Manager (from any client) I can not see anything strange. In WGM, multiple login for the network accounts is enabled. I even have Guest Access enabled for AFP (both in the sharepoint and in AFP settings).
    Anyone?
