ILife 08 Installation

I know this is not really the place for this, per se... but I could not find an overall 'iLife' category. My question, however is a simple one.
Is there ANY way to install iLife '08 or '09 and choose which components to install? I'm asking because I don't necessarily want to install the iMovie that will not be able to be used, because I have an 'almost fast enough' G5 processor in my iMac G5 1.8Ghz machine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • ILife 08 installer asking for application program

Hi everyone, I have a pretty simple question, I hope. When I go to install iLife 08 on my new MacBook, I double click the installer icon and it asks me for what application program I want to open it with.
The installer icon comes up on my iMac (you know the little yellow "package" icon) but when the disc is put in the Macbook, it is a plain "file" icon. Very strange!
    Anyone have any ideas?

Are you installing from the iLife 08 disk? Those installer packages should be opened by "Installer.app" which is located in the HD/System/Library/CoreServices folder. If you have another installer package on your HD select it and type Command+i. In the Info window that comes up select Installer.app from the menu for Open with. Then click on the Apply to All... button. Then the iLife installer package should open automatically with the right application.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • ILife language installation

    Hi,
I ordered iLife in the Belgian Apple Store and got DVD with Dutch inscriptions. I am tryin to exchange it, but I woonder if you can install any language from the DVD ? I run everything in English - don't care about the printed instructions.

Hi Alain - it shouldn't matter which language the printed instructions are in, the application packages themselves (iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie etc.) contain many different language files which enable the application to run in whichever language you prefer (set in the International pane of System preferences), in your case English.
If I check my copy of iPhoto, for example, purchased thru the UK online Apple store but shipped from the Netherlands, a normal installation contains files for the following languages: Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish, and Chinese (x2). To see this 'Get Info' on an app, particularly the Apple ones, and check the 'Languages' section in the Info window.
I can't imagine that Apple would ship separate iLife DVDs with software containing only the Dutch language - so I am pretty sure that your DVD is essentially the same as mine and you'll be able to install and carry on iLifing in English.

  • OS 10.6 Snow Leopard and iLife '09 installations disks ejected and not read

I bought the Mac Box Set intending to upgrade from Tiger 10.4.9 to Snow Leopard 10.6 and iLife '09 and iWork '09. I was able only to install the iWork disc. The other two are ejected without any error message or notice of any sort. The Genius desk was unable to solve the problem. Please help.

Is it possible that there are certain firmware or OS patches that conflict with SL? How about any third-party apps?
Any third party OS patch could conflict with running Snow Leopard, & a few could conflict with installing that OS when you start out the installation process by clicking on the "Install Mac OS X" icon while running your Mac normally (IOW, when it has started up from the internal HD), but none should cause the installer disc to be ejected when the Mac is starting up, including when the "Install Mac OS X" application does a restart, which it should do at about 10 to 15 minutes into the normal install process.
This is because at startup time, no OS has loaded yet -- in fact, part of the startup process involves looking for disks that might contain an OS to start up from, including on DVD's in the optical drive.
IOW, if you can start up from the installer DVD, it doesn't matter what is on some other disk. If you can't, then either the drive or disc is defective or your firmware (including what is stored in "PRAM") is messed up. You can reset PRAM using the method discussed elsewhere in this thread. As long as any firmware patch came from Apple & was successfully installed, there is very little chance that it is the problem. If it is the problem, there is not much you can do about it besides taking the Mac in for service.

  • ILife '09 installation problems; run preflight script error

Hi, not sure where else to put this topic so I figured this would be the best place. The iLife section has forums for individual applications and not the entire thing.
I'd like to point out that I had iLife '08 installed and working but I uninstalled it before I proceeded with the '09 installation since I wanted to start clean. I also installed iWork '09 successfully.
When I try installing iLife '09 however, I get a an error stating "The following install setup failed: run preflight script for registration. contact the software manufacturer for assistance.". I have tried to repair disk permissions through Disk Utility and then reboot, but still get the same error. I have also tried using some of Onyx's "cleaning" utilities, but it doesn't help either.
I also get the same "run preflight script" error when I try installing the latest Quicktime update through Apple Software Update application.
Not sure any of these are related but I'm out of ideas. Is anyone else getting anything similar or know how to fix any of this?

Just a guess, but do you have a retail disk of iLife '09 or an upgrade that came as a supplement to your new Mac? If the latter, you should have the iLife '08 applications installed in their default locations (where they were located when you first started up the new Mac) because it is highly unlikely that an upgrade disk can upgrade what is not there.
If this is your problem, you may not have to reinstall the entire OS. Instead, first try looking for an "Install Bundled Software" app (or something with a similar name) on your new Mac's system disk 1. This may allow you to reinstall the original iLife apps without having to reinstall the OS. If so, the upgrade disk should work once they are back in place.

  • ILife 06 installation disc won't run/error message

    Hi,
a few months ago we bought a macbook which came with iLife 06. The installation disc for iLife says good for 5 computers in the same household. When I try to install if on our older G4, (running 10.4.8), I put the disc in and I get the following error message when I click on the iLife 06 icon:
"there is no default application specified to open the object "iLife 06"
I've tried repairing permissions, but same thing. Not sure where to go from here...any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    meganou
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The readme on the install disc says PPC or Intel-based
    That answers that query.
Am I in the right forum..?
This is as good as any, since there isn't a dedicated forum to iLife installatiion probems.
Since you get the same result in a new admin account, you might consider reinstalling the latest COMBO update for your machine, restarting, repairing permissions with Disk Utility, and trying again. Report back.

  • Restoring original iWeb from iLife CD installation and the iWeb 1.1 problem

I was thinking of reinstalling the original iWeb from iLife CD and then republish my changes, but didnt want to make matters worst or lose my current iWeb online...
Anyone tried this? or any tips?

You need the following to succesfully downgrade to 1.0.1:
    1) a backup of your iWeb 1.0.1 Domain file from username/Library/Application Support/iWeb before you started using iWeb 1.1
    2) the iWeb 1.0.1 upgrade package
    3) iLife installer disk
To do it you need to:
    1) Delete the receipts first:
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWebApp.pkg
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWeb_101.pkg
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWeb_11.pkg
    2) Delete the iWeb application.
    3) Then reinstall iWeb from your iLife disk. Then update back to 1.0.1.
    4) Put your old 1.0.1 Domain file into the correct place and open iWeb 1.0.1!
I downgraded to 1.0.1 using a backup of my 1.0.1 Domain file successfully with no problems.

  • ILife '11 Installation Failed? Please Help!

Okay so basically I wiped my Mac and clean installed OSX Snow Leopard version 10.6.7, then after the installation completed I put the Application Install DVD in (installs the iLife programmes) and went through the necessary steps prior to install, when I actually click 'install' it says 'preparing to install' then within 1second a failed screen shows saying
        The Installation Failed.
    An Unknown installation error occurred.
The Installer encountered an error that caused the
installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer
                                                                                            for assistance.
I've looked around the support forums doing all the suggested fixes, I have so far : deleted the Java folder from the System > Library folder,
verified the disk permissions then repaired them if any errors where found.
I also improvised and downloaded a torrent of iLife 11 (not to intendedly use but to test to see if there was a problem with the disk) and then when I ran it I got the exact same message!! So the problem is not with the actual iLife / Bundled Software disk!!
Please help as I really require the programmes such as iMovie and Garageband for what I do...all help is welcomed and will be praised and below you can find a picture of the error screen! Thank you!!

    COMPUTER SPECIFICATIONS PHOTO

I'm dealing with the same issue and I am afraid I anyway might be out of luck.
When you get the Installation Failed notice, look carefully at that window - in the upper righthand corner, there's a nondescript little symbol - I cant tell what it's supposed to be, but when I clicked on it, that brought up a notice saying that the software certificate "issued by: Apple Software Update Certification Authority"... "expired: Friday, March 23, 2012  12:26:07 PN CT".
The window has a lot of text in it, but will not allow the text to be selected, copied, dragged elsewhere or saved/ Scrolling down about a third of the way into it, there's two lines of interest -
"Not Valid Before  -   Friday, March 23, 2007  12:26:07 PN CT".
"Not Valid After    -   Friday, March 23, 2012  12:26:07 PN CT".
So basically it looks like Apple locks it out after five years... funny, because this is supposed to be iLife 2011, which makes it one year old, not five years. I bought it a year ago, not five years ago, as a add-on for my children.
The text box also has these two websites for further information -
    CPS URI - http://www.apple.com/appleca/
    and
    URI - http://www.apple.com/appleca/swupdate.crl

So it looks as if I can no longer use this product.
By the way, I wondered if the installer gets on the internet with Apple during the installation to confirm eligibility or something, so I tried installing again with the internet offline. Same result - installation failed.
I will be very unhappy with Apple if it is really the case that this program lasted us less than one year. I had to reformat this Mac because of some system-level corruption my young son caused, and I should not have to repurchase iLife because it is one year old. Let's see what happens...

  • ILife 11 Installation Failed

I purchased a 4 month old used Mac with a 3 year warranty.  I am running Lion and it appears the previous owner wiped iLife from the system.  Apple confirmed I am entitled to it but has no way to provide me a key for a download so they directed me to contact previous owner and get it from his backup or purchase it from app store.  I will take neither suggestion.
With this history, how do I install iLife 11 from disk when I am currently running 10.7?  I have read the blogs and seen the work-around link when running 10.6 as well as changing the date and time and rebooting the system.  I continue to get cert expiration errors.
Thanks for any direction you can provide.

If the machine came with Snow Leopard and you have the install discs, including the one for iLife; then, get an ext HD, install SL onto it, got through the initial setup steps, install the other software onto it, and then wipe the int HD. Use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to clone the SL installation to the int HD, boot with that, and then, if you really want Lion, go to the MAS and buy it, download it, and when the installer pops up, quit it, save a copy to a safe location to preclude having to DL it again, wasting resources, since the ill-designed installer deletes itself during the installation process. Then, launch the installer app and upgrade to Lion. That'll preserve all the iLife 11 apps and make the computer yours. Once you do all of this, go to Apple's Express Lane and register the machine.

  • ILife 06 Installation: No Custom Button

I recently purchased iLife 06 and started the installation and it said that it needs to run a program to make sure it can install it. So I click Okay and wait, then it says it can't install iPhoto on this computer because it's unsuported. My mac meets al the requirements. It says to use the custom button to install the apps individually but there isn't a custpm button ANYWHERE!!! Does anyone know what to do?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If, as Terence pointed out, you only have 754MB of free space on your boot drive then you're in really big trouble. It's generally recommended to have a minimum of 10G free space on the boot drive, more if possible. You won't even be able to burn a CD as the system required an equal amount of free space to create a temporary CD image.
You need to find a way to backup and move a lot of files off your boot drive. An external FW HD is the easiest way to backup your files and clean up your boot drive. You can also recover some disk space by running Monolingual to remove the unneeded language modules. I saved about 900 MB the first time I ran it.
Once you get your free space situation corrected you can address getting iPhoto 6 on your Mac. What Mac model do you have? I've only found models with 733MHz chips, not 700 MHz.
The specs for iLife 06 are:
    System Requirements
Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G4, G5 or Intel Core Duo processor; 733MHZ or faster required for iDVD
    256MB of RAM; 512MB recommended
Mac OS X v10.3.9 or Mac OS X v10.4.3 or later; Mac OS X v10.4.4 recommended
If you Have a G3 machine you can use iPhoto but some of the advanced editing capabilities will not be available. Also you probably will have to use Pacifist to locate the iPhoto install package on the iLife disk and install it.
But first you have to get some free space on your boot drive.
    Do you Twango?

  • Dual G5 won't boot unless in safe mode post iLife 09' installation.

Alright so a few hours ago I had installed iLife 09 and the computer refused to restart therefor I did a manual force shutdown (by holding the power button till it shut off).
When I booted the computer up it began to load at the "spinning grey screen" then shut off within a few seconds.
I booted it in safe mode to try to fix the problem by uninstalling iLife by removing the files from the applications folder and deleting the receipts. After rebooting I still had the same issue.
Then I booted up in safe mode once more to open up Disk Utilities to fix the permissions. Found a few things it changed then rebooted once more... No dice.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2022959&tstart=60 I took a look at that thread, booted up in single user mode ran the commands and still nothing.
Additional note that seems different than most posts i've read so far:
I cannot boot from another hard drive (internal, external or partition) unless I am in safe mode.

    HI,
Can you boot from your install disk?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 15% free disk space.* Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.

  • Recovering iLife After Installation

    Hello,
I wasn't really sure where to post this, but this seemed like my best bet for getting an answer.. I recently (well not actually that recently) upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5, the former of which came on my iMac when I bought it. Included along with the OS was iLife '08. When I installed the new system I did an archive and install, saving the old system in a folder on the HD. This was very nice because I had a nice clean new system (I love setting my preferences), and I could easily access and drag over my old files and apps. However, when I tried to bring certain applications, including the iLife applications, from the application folder in the archive of the previous system to my actual applications folder, I encountered an error when I attempting to run them. Necessary files were missing. I assumed that they were located through the library folder of the previous system. But when I started to look for them I realized that moving all of those files was a daunting task.. there are tons of them and I dont know which to move and if I can even find all of them.
Does anyone know of an easy (or easier) way to move my old applications (especially my iLife applications) to the new application folder? I can still run, say, iPhoto from the previous system's archive, but I eventually want to delete the archive. I've tried (maybe not hard enough) to install iLife through the 10.4 system CDs that came with the iMac, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I need to explain the problem better.
    Thanks

Your old system, including iphoto/ilife, will very like have been archived as an "invisible" file - one way of doing it is by this:
    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Automator-Actions---Workflows/Show-Hide-Invisible-F iles.shtml
but there was a terminal command if you're comfortable with that:
"+To display all hidden files, open up the terminal and type,+
    +*defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE*+
+Change “TRUE” to “FALSE” to hide the files+
    +Then restart the Finder+
    +killall Finder+
+In Mac OS X, files and folders can be hidden by putting a “.” (without the quotes) in front of the file name.+

  • ILife 08 installation question

I'm thinking about upgrading to iLife 08 on my G4. My questions is l am in another country right now and was wondering if I were to buy iLife 08 via the apple online store, would I be it install on my cpu right then and there or do I have to wait until apple sends me the box with the CD to install the whole thing. Hope this made sense.

Apple does not do electronic delivery. They send you a package with the software, manual, etc. So, yes, you have to wait.

  • ILife 09 to iLife 11 installation....?

    Hello,
If I am currently running iLIfe '09.. Will iLife 11 install over it? or do I need to remove '09 before installing '11?
    Thanks

Will iLife 11 install over it?
Yes. Unless noted otherwise, you don't need to uninstall a previous version of software before installing the current one.

  • Netinstall Leopard Installer DVD with iLife 08

Has anyone been able to use the leopard installer dvd and ilife 08 installer dvd to create a netinstall image to update machines through netboot?
I am trying now, but the iLife install never installs! I'm not sure why, but I can get other packages I made to install. Same for most of the updates from apple. I want to install them, but they don't.
    Any help appreciated.

Hi Grand, I maybe able to provide some light to your situation:
I too just bought my iMac recently and due to its shipment, the iMac comes installed with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger with iLife 08, that all comes in the Install DVDs that came with the iMac. In it is also an Upgrade Leopard DVD 10.5, this is just the Leopard Upgrade.
You have to upgrade to Leopard using this Upgrade DVD and then you will get Leopard and also iLife 08, which was already previously installed. My initial mistake when I open up my iMac was to immediately do a total Erase and Install of my iMac with the Leopard Upgrade DVD, then I realized it was an upgrade and because I did an Erase and Install, iLife 08 was "wiped off". (iLife 08 was in fact pre-installed together with the Tiger OS) so later I had to again erase and install Tiger, then just choose the Upgrade option in the Leopard DVD.
Maybe yours is the same case as I am??
    Cheers
