Imac g3 screen issues. (after attempting to upgrade.)

Hello!
I was installing mac osx on my failry old imac g3. It told me that my firmware needed to be installed. So I clicked restart. When it restarted, my screen didn't show up at all! I restarted again and my screen was faint, crooked and blue. Now I can't even run my original os9!
Did I delete some kind of screen setting!?
How should I fix this!?

For a firmware update to be applied to such a machine, the machine has
to be running/booted into OS 9.1/9.2; and support for the USB pen/flash
drive would have to be working inside the computer to import from one.
If the iMac G3 has FireWire ports, you could use a FW cable from another
Mac and use that Mac to import the firmware update into the hard drive of
the other computer; or use disk utilities of the proper type to attempt to
repair the old iMac's hard disk drive before going further. Could be not
only is the logicboard in jeopardy, the drive may also have issues.
[In some cases, a dead or weak clock battery can also be a problem in
the process of firmware updates and PRAM matters.]
The incompatibility of pre-Firmware updated iMac G3s to properly
display video is part of the symptom you get to experience in a sit-
uation where the OSX was installed (or X disc was used to boot the
computer, before firmware was updated in the running OS9 system.)
A different hard drive with the OS9 system for the iMac installed on it
with the Firmware Update on it, and put into the iMac could help in the
process; but you'd have to run the Firmware update after the computer
itself was physically installed in the drive to flash the computer's ROM
and upgrade the bootROM firmware to 4.1.9 or whatever your's needs.
A universally recorded CD-R would work in both a Mac and a PC; Mac
users have been making these for years, usually on a Mac, of course!

There are a few different approaches to attempting to solve this;
one company has a special process and wanted to sell something;
this following quote is someone's experience from the above link.
"...I thought, what the heck, it's good as dead already... why not try one
more thing? So, I held down the Programmer's button on the side of the
iMac while starting it up.. and bingo! It didn't shut down this time! The
screen was black, but it was up and running to some extent. I hooked up
a PC monitor to the iMac and saw the Open Firmware screen. This was
pretty exciting, until I realized that it was not accepting any input from the
keyboard or mouse. What now? I stuck my OS 9.2 CD into the slot, did
the "3 finger salute" reboot, held down the C key and prayed harder than I
have in a while.... and eureka! The CD booted the iMac successfully! I
was able to do a clean install of the OS to upgrade it from 9.0 to 9.2,
restart the Mac; then upgrade its firmware..." -- may not be repeatable.
Anyway, hopefully you get more feedback on this and a resolution solution!

  • Touch screen issues after win 10 upgrade

Hello! I upgraded my Touchsmart 600 (http://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c02507415) to Windows 10. Everything works fine besides touch screen. It actually worked right after I installed new drivers for Graphic card, it worked really fine. After Shutdown or Restart, so after rebooting it stopped working. Now only works on login screen, strange. Whwn I log in, stops. I tried reinstalling Graphic drivers, just to see what happens, and my touch screen worked again. When I restart, again only on login screen. Awkward. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Hrvoje.

Similar issues here with a Pavilion TS11. Touch screen works intermittently.  Works fine immediately after booting, then randomly quits working. I started to think it was just a coincidence and a wire was loose or something was malfunction in the screen itself. It does randomly start to work again though. I hate it because so far I really like Win10.

Satellite C55-A5182: screen flickers after windows 10 upgrade....help!!!

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I read your post on the HP Support Forums and I understand that you are having an issue with the Touchscreen on your HP Notebook - 15-ac020nr. You had mentioned that since your Windows 10 Upgrade, it no longer works.  Have you tried doing all updates (Windows, HP Support Assistant, BIOS)?Have you tried restarting the Notebook a couple of times?Have you tried to run the Windows Troubleshooter? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The HP Support Assistant will also help find a proper driver for you to use.  Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. • Has anyone been unable to restore their iPad after attempting to upgrade to ios5? error 1

Has anyone been unable to restore their iPad after attempting to upgrade to ios5? I get an unknown error 1 message. Thanks.

I have the same problem. Something happened during the download and froze iTunes. After spending three days searching these forums with the dead iPad, the only thing I got to work was to try downloading iOS 5 using my sons computer. This worked. However I cannot now get my computer's iTunes to sync with my iPad.. It contains the same error message (1602) and has the same problem as before. It is not an antivirus problem. I need some help too

  • IPhone 3G no longer works after attempt to upgrade to 2.0.1

    Hi all,
I have a black 16 GB iPhone 3G on a contract with Vodafone Australia. Last night I attempted to upgrade the firmware through iTunes to 2.0.1, after getting the latest security update and version of iTunes (7.7.1 I think it is). Anyway, the iPhone software appeared to download fully but then when it tried to apply the update everything froze and all I could see was the apple logo in the centre of the screen with the spinning cog below. I have tried restoring and followed everything I could find in Apple's support documents, including trying to put in DFU mode and restore but nothing - I keep getting a 1604 error. I can't contact Apple as their phone lines are only open weekdays and there is no Apple store in Melbourne as yet. Any ideas?

It was like that overnight. However, I just took the iPhone in to a Vodafone store and they replaced it with a brand new one. Problem solved I guess. Just synced up the new phone with latest firmware and everything seems to be working fine.

  • Flickering Screen issue after Mavericks update released on Feb 26, 2014

I own a Macbook Retina display bought in early 2014. After installing the recent Maverick update released around Feb 26, 2014 the display developed flickering problem while scrolling and now the scrolling is not smooth any more. The originally shipped machine did not have this problem. I tested other software including Photoshop and the display still flickers while panning the canvas. I also tried resetting the SMC - System Management Controller but it didn't work along with other attempts of resetting the disk permissions, running a systems cleaner, changing the wifi-router etc.
How to fix this flickering screen issue?

The problem came back lately and I tried this solution and it worked. Go to system settings > power saver > and switch off the Automatic Graphic switching. Not sure if this is a good solution, but it seem to have worked for the time being.

  • Issue while attempting to upgrade 07 service pack 3

While attempting to upgrade our Windows server 2008 server from Exchange SP1 to Sp3...we receive the following error message
    "Error:  The well-known object entry
B:32:0203007315595CE4DA33091DD24F58231:CN=Exchange Public Folder Administrators\0ADEL:bdabb1b4-dbb1f-4b0c-bd59:02e9b190b03,CN=Deleted Objects, DC=xxx,DC=xxx of the otherWellKnownObjects attribute on container object CN=Configuration,DC=xxx,DC=xxx points
to an invalid DN or a deleted object.  Please remove the entry and rerun the task."
This error occurs during the Organizational prep stage of Service pack 3 installation within 15 seconds.  I've attempted to ADSIEDIT the entry but am having trouble finding the referenced item.

Ok...now i'm really in a bit of a mess.  I haven't been able to restore the server services, including w2008 services etc..,  since the removal using the ADSI edit commands and it is pointing to a permissions issue.  I'm getting the following
    in my Event Logs.
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of the universal security group '/dc=Local/dc=CEC/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers'; the error code was '80072030'. The problem might be that the Microsoft Exchange
System Attendant does not have permission to read the membership of the group.
If this computer is not a member of the group '/dc=Local/dc=CEC/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers', you should manually stop all Microsoft Exchange services, run the task 'add-ExchangeServerGroupMember,' and then restart all Microsoft
    Exchange services.
"Microsoft Exchange System Attendant does not have sufficient rights to read Exchange configuration objects in Active Directory. Wait for replication to complete and then check to make sure that the computer account is a member of the "Exchange Servers"
and "Exchange Install Domain Servers" security groups."
    as well as...
The Microsoft Exchange Replication Service attempted to start the RPC server but failed because an error occurred when attempting to read the Exchange Servers Universal Security Group SID from the Active Directory. Error message:
Failed to find Exchange Servers group in Active Directory."
These messages basically occured shortly after the ADSIedit commands were issued.  I've since attempted minimal security permissions lookups with no success.  Any thoughts guys?  I would really like to avoid a restoral of my Exchange environment
which consists of 3 Domain Controllers and a single Exchange Server running 2008 std w/Exchange 07 sp1.

  • IPhone User Guide Format Issue After 4.3 Upgrade

The iPhone User Guide is no longer formatted properly since I upgraded to iOS 4.3. Although the info is there, the top third of the screen remains stationary, while the rest sometimes scrolls. On some screens, it's not possible to scroll down enough to see all the info. Has anyone else had this issue after upgrading? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Have taken to downloading the PDF but it's not nearly as quick and easy to use.
You need to restore your phone in iTunes, first using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone, without using a backup. All is explained in the User Guide.
Starting to question why I did't go android. I thought apple products err just supposed to work!
No one here cares if you go androgynous. I'm sure they all work perfectly all the time.

  • HT6154 iPhone 5s is stuck in recovery mode after attempting to upgrade to  7.1.1

I attempted to upgrade my iPhone 5s to 7.1.1 today
During the process, the phone Screen got on the upgrade progress bar. After an hour I decided to cancel the upgrade by turning off the phone.
I am not sure if iOS 7.1.1 ever finished installing. After turning it back on I see the recovery icon which won't go away after turning it off and on.
How do I get out of this recovery mode loop?

    OmarZB,
it appears the bottom line is that the upgrade failed and left the phone in the recovery loop. As it turns out, because I plugged in and used itunes for the upgrade, a backup was automatically created before the upgrade started. I had know idea until i decided to check under itunes > preferences > devices.
I resolved my problem by restoring the factory settings and then restoring the backup that was automatically created.
All is well now after many hours of stressing.

  • Has any seen collection issues after 11g database upgrade?

We do have an SR open.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced collection issues after upgrading the db to 11g? Our technical folks are hoping it is something else but for the past few weeks we have seen random issues stemming from collections. We run a full collections 5 nights a week. There are material transactions occurring during the two plus hours of collections. This seems to be randomly skewing on hand snapshots in collections as well as missing supply i.e. work orders. Only impacts a fraction of the records in material transactions and they are different every night.
Reason I believe it has to do with transactions during collections is one collection run out of the five is generally pretty good...Sunday evening for there is very limited transactions taking place on this evening.
    Thanks in advance

Answer to above question not required now as:
Having read the 24th December update of note 761570.1 - 'Database Preparation Guidelines for an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Upgrade' I have decided to upgrade the database to 11.2.0.x by following the Path C option.
Unfortunately as the 11.2.0.x upgrade isn't covered by MWIZ yet I will have to follow the manual steps.

  • 21.5 inch iMac yellow screen issue

I have a late 2012 iMac (21.5inch). I thought 21.5 models were immune to this issue, but I noticed bottom half of the screen is showing some yellow tint compared to upper half. I thought it was due to the angle of the screen and lighting in my room but that changed when I put my MacBook pro right next to my iMac. Compared to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, the iMac's screen has a definite yellower time to it..
How much will it cost to replace the screen to eliminate the yellow tint? Please, no replies about taking my iMac to Apple store or calling them. I've already called several different Apple stores, and they have no idea. And please, no Applecare answers or "expensive" answers. I just want exact numbers.

The in-store inspection, product specialist or in-house expert, then technical testing to diagnose the exact cause of the issue, then if done in-house, a repair sequence initiated with an open estimate on what replacement parts would actually be needed, could alter the original best-guess somewhat.
A simple backlight or inverter issue may be all that is causing the symptom. Nobody can simply give you a base price of one size fits all. They will not just 'replace a display' since the panel is more than just one part. If a voltage variation is the cause of partial tint or backlight color, then that will be part of the inspection and diagnosis; this may be in a shop for weeks.
Please stick to one question on the same topic
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5919757?tstart=0
You appear to have an issue with Apple, so there are
a few good links to their main web site. You can go
and Locate an authorized service nearby, contact an
Apple authorized representative, etc, there. We who
reply here have no direct connection, nor do we have
any authority, cannot cite prices or give quotes, etc.
And our time is our own, individually. We're not Apple.
You will have to contact Apple. You have a computer.
I will not do that for you, from my residence, half a
world away where I have no more access to a Store
than a moose, or a ptarmigan, outside my door.
    Good luck.

Yes, I know it's free if I have Applecare. I just want to know how much Apple will charge if I don't have Applecare.

If you don't have AppleCare, it will be probably pretty pricey (just to get them to open it up!).
If any past experience with iMacs doing similar things, it is probably one of the backlights they use for the screen.
That AppleCare does pay for itself when things like this happen.
Except for RAM, there are no user-serviceable parts in iMacs.

  • Exporting issues after 4.2 upgrade

Has anyone else experienced exporting issues after installing the 4.2 upgrade? It used to be a breeze but now I keep getting the message that a destination folder has not been specified even though I've done that. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Are you using an Export preset, or setting the Export up manually each time?

  • Cannot address WRT54G Ver5 After attempt to upgrade.

I attempted  to upgrade the firmware and now I cannot communicate with the router. I just have a blinking power light . Tried the reset and what I can find on the Linksys board. Any Ideas?

You may need to hard code an IP on your PC NIC so you can get communication with the router and try to flash the code again. Try entering say 192.168.1.50 with a 255.255.255.0 mask. Linksys has a tftp utility to do a tftp transfer of the code to the router. You can get that from their ftp site in the network directory. If you can't communicate with the unit it is probably partly because the router's DHCP server cannot function in the state it is in. It may be able to communicate on its default IP address of 192.168.1.1 but can't serve up an IP for your machine. Your best bet is to get a direct internet connection and get a live chat going with a Linksys engineer. They can help you get the code flashed on the unit again. That is if it is possible to recover it. You can't flash the code with wireless. If you tried to do that then you may have created a problem. You can only flash the code with an ethernet cable connected to the device. After you have the tftp.exe program, a static IP address on your PC and the code image downloaded to your PC you will be ready to try it again.
