IMac retina 5K with image retention (ghosting) problem?

I have just ordered CTO iMac retina 5K. After 2 days, I saw the problem as same as MBPr's image retention or ghosting. Is this new iMac defect or bad order ?

  • New macbook pro but with Image Retention problem :(

I've just bought my first ever mac book and really excited to explore it but I just found out that it has IR problem as I have LG screen instead of samsung. I'm just wondering what to do? Should I return it using my 14 day return policy and when I get my money back order a new one assuming the new one might have samsung display? Or should I tell them that it's faulty... and claim warranty?
Below is how I found it's LG not samsung...

Return within the 14-day refund period is always an option but getting another with the same display manufacturer is a problem dependent on the production run the store has in stock.
Read through http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5455 on image retention and see if this helps making your decision.

  • Aspire R13 (R7-371T) Image retention / Ghosting

    Hello,
I have seen quite a few people complaining about their R13's display showing signs of image retention but no dedicated discussion thread, so here's one.
Image retention, also known as ghosting, is a problem affecting some displays where images get temporary imprinted on the screen if displayed for a certain amount of time.
I invite all R13 owners to test their display by setting brightness to maximum and displaying an image with high contrast patterns for around a minute and then switching to a neutral image (plain grey for example).
Here's a link to a website performing this very test:
    http://www.marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html
If after leaving the pattern on display at full brightness for at least 30 seconds / 1 minute, it remains noticeable after switching to the grey background, the display suffers from image retention.
Mine shows image retention on the edges for about a minute after displaying the grid for as little as 30 seconds.
How many R13 owners are suffering from this problem?

Hi Maxime, Nice Youtube video about the issue. I faced that issue with many touchscreens I tried. Below you will find the most commun explainations I found. You should clearly get an exchange or even better a refund. It is a very important problem. If the reason is link with 1) or 2), it is likely to worsen overtime.    1) There are many technical explanations you could find that are mainly related to bad conception of a laptop. For example:  devices or wires that cause interference with the screen 2) Problems with the screen itself, for example:  dust inside when the screen was manufactured The 2 following explanations was by Jacob Andrew (thx to him) 2) Slow Response Time The response time is the amount of time it takes a single pixel on the screen to change from black to white and back to black. If this response time is more than 10 milliseconds, then you’ll begin to experience ghosting. Most modern monitors and TVs have faster response rates than 10ms. Ghosting is most evident in games or video with a lot of motion. You can sometimes increase the response time by lowering your monitor resolution. 3) Optional featureOn occasion, television and monitors include features to improve picture quality. These tools cause the screen to go through additional steps before the pixels are changed, increasing the response time. Samsung’s digital noise reduction, for example, caused ghosting in some of its earlier LCD televisions. Most TV manufacturers take steps to ensure that their products do not cause ghosting; however, turning off optional features on your television or monitor offers one option for eliminating ghosting. ImNotImprressed

  • IMac Retina Display with CS6

I just got an iMac Retina display monitor and my Creative Suite 6 applications all have blurry/pixelated text. I have tried to install the patch updates but still not luck fixing this issue. Is this a mac issue or adobe creative suite 6 issue?

It's a combination of both and there is no fix. It doesn't even work 100% right in current versions of CC.

  • WDS Client Naming Policy with image unattend mode problem

I have created a standard Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC for my company with all our applications installed and configured.  I used SYSPREP to generalize it and then used PXEBoot to capture this image to our WDS Server (which is the PDC).  I used WAIK
to create the two required answer files, one for the WDS server and the PXE boot stage of deployment and another linked to the image that sets the region/keyboard/time zone and other simple settings.
To test I've setup up Oracle VirtualBox and PXE booted it.  The PXE part works fine and the correct image begins to deploy.  However when using the image's answer file I get a random computer name generated and it fails to join the domain, when I
don't use the image answer file I have to sit at the PC and set the region/keyboard/timezone etc settings from prompts on the screen but the virtual PC does join the domain and does pick up the correct name!
The AD DS properties tab shows this as 'Client Naming Policy' FBCLIENT%02# which is correct and results in PCs called FBCLIENT01 FBCLIENT02 etc when NOT using the image answer file.
How can I modify my image answer file so that the PC is joined to the domain and picks up the correct generated name in sequence?
    Here's my image answer file...

    Guys i have similar problem
but i wont the name of the machines to be chosen from the "CLIENT NAMING POLICY" in WDS
    I have tried the below:
    i know that  <ComputerName>*</ComputerName>
    gives random names
and <ComputerName>%MACHINENAME%</ComputerName> gives the names of the machine already
    prestaged in AD.
and if i dont put computername Tag at all in the XML file, it will prompt me to enter the computer name,
and after the deployment the computer is loosing trust relationship with the DC
can someone helps please, its kind of urgent

  • IMac Retina 5K with M295X GPU - is it noisy?

Does anyone have personal experience with the new Retina iMac with the 295X GPU?

Perhaps to look into Activity Monitor, and note what runs there, using
a good deal of resources when the fans run, may be an idea to tell
what is going on at that time. To duplicate the cause is helpful when
troubleshooting or learning the cause of certain symptoms.
Also, check the Console (utility) log files as they can provide a record
of the time and date most any incident occurred. In fact, the Logs are
extensive and to find one actually related to one incident may be hard.
But that is where you could get some ideas, and an expert (not me) in
deductive analytical knowledge of these systems could understand it.
Certain aspects of the system will run-up, there are at least two main
cooling fans in most iMacs; & at least one just for the graphics CPU.
So this is why in my previous post, mention was made about load factor.
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • DataGrid with Image column rendering problem

    Hi,
I'm having trouble in getting images displayed on a datagrid

  • Cs3- Help with Image sequence *ghosting* ?

Hi guys- newbie here that needs a little help.
Check out the attached screenshot of a paused .mov I put together.  What type of things/settings can cause this?  How do I make an exported image sequence play as a smooth succession of sharp and CLEAR images?
    Thanks for your insights/time!
    Mike

Here is an illustration of what might be happening. This is shown as it would appear on separate Video Tracks, in A-B Roll editing, as an example.
If the Duration of a set of Clips is shorter than the Duration of a Transition, then PrPro will have to "create" frames to allow for the Handles of the Transition(s).
If your Transitions are a full one sec. and your FPS = 24, the Transitions will take up 12 Frames per Clip. As each Clip has half of two Transitions, the Clip needs to be slightly longer than the 2 halves of the Transitions. Since you cannot edit to less than a single Frame, the Clips need to be at least 24 Frames and I'd look at 25 Frames long, or PrPro will create extra Frames from the first and the last Frames in the Clip - in your case the still frames that are repeated.
Hope that this helps and also cures your problem,
    Hunt

  • Another MBPrd Image Retention thread - troubling Apple response

Took my MBPrd that was showing signs of Image Retention to the Apple store today.  When I made my appointment, I clearly put MBPrd with Image Retention in the description.
First Genius I talked to basically told me that the engineers at Apple have said that because of the high-resolution screen, image retention may be a problem.  I prodded a little more and asked her if this was affecting all MBPrd and she said yes, at which point I asked her if I had any options.  After discussing with her for a few minutes, she would not order me a replacement, and because it was outside of the 2 week return period, I could not get my money back.  If that was their answer - why did they allow me to come into the store in the first place!  BTW I've got the 2.6, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD.
Naturally, I was a little peeved, and asked to speak to a manager as I felt it was totally unacceptable on a close to $3000 machine that's a few months old that they wouldn't stand behind their product.
The Lead Genius came out, and gave some more reasonable answers - they don't know what's causing it now, but they have escalated to engineering.  He could get me a replacement if I wanted to go that route, but could not guarantee that the new one would be free of Image Retention problems, and that if it had the same issues, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
I politely told him to contact me in two weeks to see if Apple gets any closer to fixing the problem, at which point I'll decide whether I want a new one, or try and get a refund.
In the past, Apple has always stood by their products for me.  I'm absolutely appaled that this was their answer.  As Biggie, said - mo' money, mo' problems...
For those that have gone back to the Apple store - what has been their response to your Image Retention issues?

  • IMac Retina shuts off USB ports when sleeping

I have a new iMac Retina i7 with 32GB RAM running Yosemite. Approximately 60% percent of the time, when the iMac goes to sleep, it shuts off all of the USB ports. This includes dumping hard drives without properly ejecting them, as well as shutting off powered USB hubs. Switching the drives and hubs around to different ports does not help the problem, and it appears to be becoming more frequent. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I too am having hub issues with my 5K iMac. I purchased an Amazon Basics hub, that never worked at all. I returned it and got one made by vantec. I have two external hard drives connected to it, and they always are recognized after sleep or restart. But other things get dropped, like my two printers. I seem to be able to resolve the dropped hub ports by ejecting my external hard drives and then unplugging the power to the hub, then reconnecting the power. When i do, all the indicator lights come on again, and things work.
I am working with Vantec about this issue, they have been terrific by email, and they are offering to replace the hub. But now I am wondering if something more basic is wrong, like this SMC reset that has been mentioned in this thread. I was about to ask if that was hard to do, but I just looked at the link provided by Ralph, and doing it is easy-peasy. I will give this a try, and try to remember to report back.
    thanks, Peter

  • IPad (4th gen) image burn in/image retention

Has anyone had this issue with image retention or "burn in" on their new 4th gen iPad (lighting connector). I've attached an image taken with my iPhone 4 where I went from messages to "Letterpress" (a word game) where you can still see messages on the grey screen. I turned the iPad off and back on with the same retention being shown on screen. I've only had this thing for two weeks but it seems absolutely ridiculous that this is a problem. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Update:
Took my iPad to my local Apple Store. They said it was image retention and said they hadn't seen this on any devices before. They replaced it for another new one with no fuss or bother.  I have checked the replacement and at the moment it seems ok.
One thing I have not done yet is to update the software to iOS 6.0.1 I think I will leave iOS 6 (which was on the iPad from new) for the moment to see if all stays ok.  After a few days I will update to iOS 6.0.1 just to see if this is what causes the image retention problem. Hopefully this will not make any difference and all will be fine. Watch this space. . .

  • Anyone noticed noisy fans when iMac is idle on new iMac retina?

My fans seem very noisy on iMac retina compared with my macbook pro.  Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, I just got mine last week, and today, as I turned the computer on, I heard quite a loud fan noise ... which led me here searching for an answer.  It's the first time it has done this, and there's no reason for it i.e. the computer was off for the past 10hours or so.  I hope it's a "one-off" occurrence, because when I re-booted the computer, the noise is still apparent, but less than a few minutes ago.
If it persists, I will be contacting Apple Support.

Why? The computer system is up to date and I have had no issue with the other computers, just this one.
    Many thanks
