Imovie exported to mp4 choppy audio on PC QuickTime player

When I created a mp4 file from imovie, my client with a PC who has a QuickTime player hears choppy audio.  It won't even open in his Windows Media Player bc of Codec issues.  Then QuickTime plays it but audio is all choppy.  It plays fine on my Apple.  What am I doing wrong?   If I create a QuickTime file, which I'm doing now, is there a special audio setting I should change so this will work on a PC?
Thanks!

When you export out of iMovie are you doing it using Share> Export QuickTime file or Export Movie? Believe it or not, you can export to Movie and rename the file extension from .m4v to .mp4 and get that to play on any Windows machine with Windows Media Player installed. It maybe a simple matter of saving it out to Movie, renaming it and sending that one along to the client, see if that one works better.

  • QT exported to MP4 = No Audio . . . . . Any advice please?

Exporting QT.mov to MP4 onto my new mobile phone. It Looks great and very clear but has no audio? I suspect it's due to not exporting a compatible AIFF audio file or something for MP4 to read?
What do I need to do to export the Audio over to MP4 through QT Pro or do I need an additional softaware to achieve both Audio and Video results for the export?
    Many thanks
    Simone

Thank you for your advice - very much appreciated. I am using the options as follows to convert QuickTime audio and video onto my mobile phone.
    Export to MPEG4 > 'Apple MPEG4 Compressor' > Sound MPEG4 ACC > Mono > 44.1Khz > Frame Size 320 X 240 4.3 Aspect.
    Works very well.

  • Mp4 won't play in quicktime player

I have an mp4 file that I'm trying to watch on my quicktime player but I just get an error that says it cannot be opened.
    The codecs are H264 - MPEG-4 - AVC, and A52 audio (aka AC3).
I have Perian installed.  Any suggestions?

    mp4 is just a wrapper... doesn't tell, what's inside.
use a tool such as iMediaHUD
    http://www.iffmpeg.com/iMediaHUD/
to tell us a lil' more, what that mp4 really is ..

  • Why can't I open mp4 movies in my new QuickTime Player. I just upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I recently upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I opened one of my movie clips in mp4 file it was opened by my MPEG Streamclip and not with the new QuickTime Player that came with the new OS. I need to manually open the Quicktime Player and Open file the mp4 movie I want to play it. I have no problem with the QuickTime Pro that  I was using in my previous OS before I upgraded. I did not encounter this problem, however, with my iMac Intel when I upgraded it to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The Quicktime Player in my iMac Intel automatically opens my mp4 movies. Only my flv files are opened automatically by my MPEG Streamclip as I expected to. Why?

  • Audio Hijack pro quicktime player audio sync issue

I am trying to record youtube videos using quicktime player (screen recording the game) and Audio Hijack Pro (recording the game audio and skype audio). The problem is, when I edit the video, the comentary on a cirtain event very gradually gets further and further from the event in the screen recording. Is there any solution for this? If so please tell me. Thanks.

Yes. I own it. I solved the problem. I had a trial version of another sound enhancement program called WOW. I removed it and the problem is solved. It was obviously running in the background even though I thought I had uninstalled it.
    All is well now.
    Thanks!

  • Exported movie has choppy audio

the whole animation plays smoothly when previewed on FCP X. But when I export it, the sound becomes choppy. I got the sound effects from FCP X sound effects.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150667439902717&set=vb.50603525802&type=2 &theater

Apple did not want to become the next Napster to go down "lawsuit lane"....... then Apple came out with the AAC, telling us it was for better quality than of mp3, but also behind the scene, they were also imbedding songs on their site, with "copyright" features that prevented user from other computers to share and or play songs not purchased ligit.
Apple did not develop the AAC format. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdvancedAudioCoding
AAC was developed with the cooperation and contributions of companies including Dolby, Fraunhofer IIS, AT&T, Sony and Nokia, and was officially declared an international standard by the Moving Pictures Experts Group in April 1997
For details of the improvements over mp3, have a read of the above link. I suspect the reason Apple chose the AAC format is the lower licence fees and the better quality and lower bitrates.
AAC's (like mp3 and wmv) can be DRM protected, and this is the format that most of the tracks sold in the iTune store use.
So mp3 are safe with iP4. But as you upgrade to iP5 or 6, and iTunes 6 or 7..... I beleive iTunes becomes smart and prevents you to even play mp3 or use them with Quick time if they have the DRM (copyright feature) I have encountered this problem before when I attempted to upgrade my iTunes.....and immediately, I reverted to iTunes 4.2... and it allows me to put songs on my QT files.
This is untrue. You can use DRM protected material with later versions of iPhoto and iTunes, within the limit of the DRM, of course. And you can use any unprotected material.
There might be other reasons (beyond my knowledge) why mp3 and or mp4 (AAC) do not play in QT in higher iTunes version.....
They do play, perfectly well. It sounds like you have a problem, but it's usually sorted out by having the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime

  • Imovie HD 6--extremely choppy audio

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro.
When I capture video using imovie hd 6, the audio is EXTREMELY choppy. I take the same camera, same tape, and go to my old powerbook g4 and the audio is fine (using imovie HD 6 on that machine, too).
Even after capture, when I play the clip, the audio is choppy. I've burned a test to DVD, and the audio is choppy on the DVD. I don't think it's a memory issue as the MacBook Pro has more memory and a bigger harddrive. Perhaps I have some obscure setting set somewhere, but I can't figure it out. As far as I can tell, the two machines are set the same. Can anyone help me?
On the macbook pro, other sounds are fine (ie--music in itunes) so it's not a speaker issue. Any ideas?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Sounds like (whoops!) your MacBook's busy doing other things when it's handling the audio, hence the 'choppiness'.
First, if it's brand new, click on the 'Spotlight' magnifying glass at top-right, and if it says "wait, I'm busy indexing" then do wait until it's stopped its initial indexing before you do anything else ..otherwise storage and retrieval on your hard disc will be slow and 'choppy' as it divides its attention between what you want doing, and the indexing which it wants to do for itself.
Second, go to System Preferences, and 'Security', and check that 'Filevault security is turned off', otherwise it'll be trying to encrypt and decrypt the audio ..which will make it stutter (..and will make the video stutter, too).
Thirdly, if you've got GarageBand installed, go there, and play a few notes; that should reset the general system audio to the correct playback rate. Or go to Applications>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup, and change the Audio Input and Audio Output Format settings to anything, and then back to 44100.0Hz and 2ch-16bit, and then Save and Quit.
(If your MacBook's set up for an inappropriate audio rate (miniDV movies are recorded at 12 or - preferably - 16-bit, 48kHz) then the audio will be choppy while the Mac tries to convert it to an incorrect setting.)
Karl's identified other choppiness causes as excessive separate audio clips in the Timeline, but this wouldn't seem to apply in your case.
Others may have more ideas, but try those above and see if they help..

  • How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?

How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?
It's really annoying for Quicktime player to auto-lauch!

It may not be that simple David. They're using a "server" and some of the Apache software may want to launch QuickTime at boot.
This isn't really a QuickTime question. It's a sever question best answered in those Discussion pages.

  • Error in FCE 4 while exporting an mp4 HD Movie

    Hallo,
I try to export an mp4 movie, by using the quicktime conversation mode. I selected mp4 with 20,000 kBit/s. The tests of a short 5 minutes clip were successfull. Exporting the whole movie of 81 minutes was interrupted by FCE 4 after many hours with the massage 'A generell error'. I used an external USB harddisc (70 GB of free space). I also tried to export to the internal harddisc (90 BG of free space): no results.
The error also in Mac OS X 10.5.3 has happened.
    What can I do?

That's not right. If i write a Quicktime movie of my 81 minutes long HD-movie, I see the .mov file growing. After 8 hours I got a correct .mov file of 45.2 GB.
But if I am using the Quicktime conversation with .mp4 encoding, the export file doesn't grow and after 6 hours, the file still is 0 KB large. Then FCE interrupts the exporting process and the file disappears. Shorter movies of some minutes were not interrupted!!! But why?
Unfortunately the using of Streamclip 1.9.1 to convert a .mov to a .mp4 file was not successfully too. After 14 hours of converting the file, I just got 51% of the mp4 movie. This seemed to by wrong.

  • Big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 and Program Monitor

I get a big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 on Vimeo/Youtube and Quicktime X and Program Monitor.
There are quite a few posts on Quicktime gamma issues, but there seem to be no solutions and the other editors I know don't seem to have this problem.
I know there will be a bit of a shift but this is MASSIVE. At the moment I add a whole extra adjustment layer to all my clips to get it approximately right, but ofcourse this does not solve the issue nor does it give proper results.
Please do not reply with the "You need a real reference monitor via SDI etc etc ..."
By my logic on the same screen the program monitor should resemble what is going to be the final result in a relevant player like Quicktime X which all normal apple consumers use to watch their films.  I know VLC and Mpeg streamclip gives different results, but mostly when playing Quicktime/h264 files Quicktime will play it thus average users ( the people I'd like to downwload/buy my films )will watch it in Quicktime.
Furthermore, Quicktime X's gamma/color looks very similar to the image I get on Youtube or Vimeo - which is where all my current work is going. I'm not outputting to boradcast or DVD etc.
Strangely enough the MPEG 2 stuff I've done for DVD matches the Youtube output with the Program monitor.
    What am I doing wrong?
I have a Dell 2711 wide Gamut Display which is calibrated with an SPyder 3 Elite using its full colour gamut ( close to 90% of Adobe RGB - thus bigger than sRGB or Rec709) Could Premiere be ignoring the calibration in the Program monitor and making the image values 16-235 and then Quicktime uses all  values 0-255? If so, how can I fix this?
Any help will be much appreciated!

I know this has been a while so hopefully you found some help by now, but maybe this will help anyone stumbling across this.
What people seem to be missing in what you are asking is... this is the same file, on the same monitor, but with a different appearance in different software.  It is not a question of whether the overall monitoring is GOOD, and it is not a matter of hardware settings (as that would most likely propogate across all software) it is that it is not CONSISTENT side by side on the very same monitor.
I had very similar issues that really seemed to get worse when we got new monitors, which is what lead me to chime in here.  The monitors were also wide gamut displays.
    The problem is likely this...
    1. The difference being shown are the difference between software that properly color manages (i.e. Premier or After Effects) and software that does not (i.e. Quicktime or some web browsers)
    2. The reason it is so severe is that the wide gamut monitors are able to show many more colors and thus the difference between the managed and unmanaged software is much more exagerrated than on regular gamut monitors.
I found this great link that helped calm my nerves and helped me get handle on much of what is going on.
    http://www.artstorm.net/journal/2009/07/color-management-wide-gamut-dell-2408/
Now that is not to say that the 0-255/16-235 issue is not also involved here.  It is definitely possible that a specific codec or compressor is part of the problem, but it sounds like it starts with the color management issue first.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I export a movie with audio that I have edited in logic 9 to a quicktime movie

I imported a quicktime movie into logic and added audio and effects but when i export it the original audio from the quicktime movie is still there even though it doesn't sound in logic!

    Hi
One of teh final steps in the Export to Movie process is a dialog box where one can select which of the audio tracks embedded within the movie are included.
You must actively de-select those tracks that you do NOT want to include in the Export.

  • QuickTime Player 7.5.5 fails when I try to export

    Hello
Since I updated to QuickTime 7.5.5, it's not possible to export to any movie or audio format. QuickTime Player freezes, doesn't respond. I have to close the application forced from Finder.
    What to do?
Thank you! And sorry for my english.
    Message was edited by: MigDo

The files are 4928x3264 JPEGs. I'm trying to make 1920x1080 .MOV files. Quicktime crashes as soon as I select the first pic from the image sequence.
I tried another sequence that had 600 pics and it worked fine, so it's obviously not some sort of image limit. But I can't figure out why these three sequences that each have 240 images would cause the program to crash everytime.

  • Multiple audio sources for quicktime movie recording

I want to record a Quicktime movie using iSight as the video input, external audio (guitar) via a Focusrite Saffire LE (1874) audio interface and internal audio (a backing track) from either iTunes, Logic 9 or MainStage 2 (I don't care which), so I can record myself playing and then send the video to another guitarist via Dropbox or similar.  Is this possible and if so how do I set it up on my iMac?
    Thanks.

QuickTime Player Pro, QuickTime X (Snow Leopard) and QuickTime 10.1 (Lion) all include a "New Movie Recording" feature. The camera can be the internal iSight or an externaly connected one and the audio can be internal or line in.
But you can only have one video and one audio source.
QuickTime Player Pro can be used to add additional "tracks" and the .mov container can have up to 99 of them. GarageBand can help you edit the track timing. It also includes other "instuments" and can play your video while you build additional tracks.
I would record via iSight but not include any audio. Then use GarageBand to add the additional audio tracks.

  • Audio Hijack Pro + Quicktime X

Audio Hijack Pro can hijack Quicktime X, but I can't get it to record. It will still record Quicktime 7. I use this to record some late night talk radio for download to iTunes. Good thing Quicktime 7 is still on the computer (in the Utilities folder). I've contacted the developer (Rogue Amoeba).
From their compatibility website (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/status/), it looks like an update will be coming.

Weird. Sorry, no further ideas at this time. Perhaps someone else will have run across this and have a suggestion.
Meanwhile, you might try playing and capturing the audio file using QuickTime Player 7 which should be in your Utilities folder (if not, you can install it via the Optional Installs on your Snow Leopard install disk). That might work with Audio Hijack.
    Regards.
