IMOVING HOUSE ''IS THERE AN ACTIVEBT LAND LINE''

Hello everyone
I'm moving house in 3 weeks and we will be transfering our bt phone and broadband package.  I no the people in the house at the moment pay sky for their phone calls but don't no about the land line. Is there anyway to check if they have an active BT landline as we don't want to get charged the huge £127.00 connection fee, ontop of our moving costs.
many thanks

Hi Dihamm22
Welcome to the forums.
Sounds to me if the existing person in the property has their line rental with that company you should have nothing to worry about.
If you would like me to confirm this email me the address information to [email protected]
Please include a link to this thread.

  • New Land Line?

Hi, we are moving into our new house next week which we've just had renovated, but the builders have only left about 30cm of old telephone cable in the hall (sticking out of the wall by the front door) with no socket. I'm not sure if this is a BT line or cable, as when we bought the property there were cables everywhere.
We need phone and broadband installed, I understand BT are refunding the land line installation fee at the moment, but would we be eligible?
Providing BT can install a new line or fit a socket the existing cable can we choose where the new sockets go? How much routing will the engineer do?
Also Infinity becomes available at the end of the month, and I'm seriously contemplating it, if I signed up for Broadband (40GB/month + free weekend calls) are there free upgrades to infinity once it's available?
    Thanks

  • Can I replace my land line with an iPhone and keep the same phone number?  Thanks.

Hi,  Can I replace my land line with an iPhone and keep the same AT&T phone number?  Thanks.

    Hi
There are always some wrinkles in this kind of change.  If you have a home security system like ADT they require a land-line for their system to work.  This less of an issue in apartments and condos - it's mostly a "house" issue.
Before you make the switch (and there may be a switching fee) just make sure you cover all the bases.

  • IPhone 3G ** key does not allow me to access my land line voice mailbox...

OK, I have a great iPhone 3G issue for you. Here it is...
In order for me to retrieve my voice mail messages on my office land line, I have to call my office direct dial phone number. After that outgoing message begins to play, I have to press ** on my iphone keypad to prompt the voice mail phone system to let me know dial my extension number and password. On my old iphone 2G, it works fine. But with the new iphone, it does not. Another words, when I press **, it does not allow me to the part where I dial my extension number and password. It instead instructs me to dial my extension number and leave a message (not enter my password). Possibly the ** tones from the new phone are too short? Not sure? There are two other people at my company that are having the exact same issue on their 3G phones as well. I even went to the AT&T store and tested it on the display iphones there. Same problem...

I was on the phone for an hour today with tech support. I spoke first to a tech support agent and next to an iPhone product specialist. Neither had heard of this issue, but I referred them to this thread and they now know it is an issue.
The product specialist tried to solve the problem and could not. He told me he was emailing the engineers to determine a workaround. He told me he would call me by Tuesday at the latest. His name is Richard and I will continue to update our progress in fixing this issue as I receive information.
If we can't access our land line corporate voicemail I don't see how I can keep the iPhone even though it otherwise works well and has many positive benefits over the Windows-based smartphone I was using (and may have to go back to).

  • Order 4585658Technician informs me there is only 1 line, its a carrier unable to get broadband

Order number 4585658Technian came to my address Boltown Kikskyre this morning to install phone line in order to get broadband packageI received modem box last week. He informs that he checked the poll at the house there is only one line that he can use but its on a carrier where you would only get a landline NO BROADBAND and he left the premises as there was nothing he could do What is the next stage for me now.  I have entered an 18 month contract have the modem box where do I stand with this? Can arrangements be made to install a broadband line into the house??  HOw do I go about getting this sorted

    Thanks ESmyth
In some cases a lines incapability of hold broadband is because it is what can be classed as a "Carrier line" - Unfortunately carrier lines utilise a different cable path which can't support broadband and are installed in circumstances where a normal line cannot be.
There is a universal obligation for every premises in Ireland to have a working phone line which can make and take calls however this obligation does not apply to broadband and in consideration I’m afraid eircom cannot offer you broadband.
I see that there is still plans to install your line as more works are required locally - I will of course request that all resources are considered and attempts are made to explore a different option than a carrier line however this is something I cannot guarantee.
    Thanks

  • Verizon installed a month ago and my land line phone won't work

Had Verizon installed in December. My old internet/phone/cable provider raised their rates so I shopped around and went with Verizon. Soon after, my cordless phone would stop working. No dial tone and if someone tried to phone me, they would get a busy signal.
I've called Verizon several times for a fix. First replaced the line from the phone to the jack, then had a technician come out who said everything was fine. Had another tech come out and replace the battery pack in the garage. The phone will work, then go static and nothing.
I bought a new cordless phone, bought a new corded phone, bought a dsl filter..Nothing is fixing the problem. I went outside, plugged the phone into the box, made sure the wires were snug and voila the phone works...OUTSIDE. So now Im told its an inside wiring problem and I can a) add the inside wiring maintenance plan but can't use it for 30 days. b) call a technician to diagnose and fix the problem at $91 for the first 30 minutes and $46 for every 30 minutes thereafter.
Never had phone problems with Brighthouse. Not sure why now suddenly it's the house wiring when everything worked before Verizon. I don't have a cell phone so the land line phone is my only way of communicating. Does anyone have any tips or solutions? I feel like Im getting royally screwed here. This sucks, wish I never shopped around, wish I never switched providers.

Verizon installed FIOS last Thursday (Jan 30).  Friday and thru the weekend I had no dial tone.  Since Verizon makes it impossible to talk with a human being, I had to email customer service.  Even telling them I'm disabled with no cell phone, never heard back until today (Monday),  Eventually went through "wifi" customer service, had on-line chat & upon informing him of my disability he said he'd immediately transfer me to get the issue fixed on Friday.  Nothing.  I called the 888 number this morning to ask for assistance.  They sent a technician out.  First tech installed to incorrect outlet (when I turn off laundry light, it turns off the back-up box, so it continually beeps).  Current tech told me to go to Radio Shack and purchase "a thing that will allow me to split the power; Radio Shack will know what I'm talking about."  Also, only one of my phones (circa 1980 model) works.   Even the cordless phones I had to purchase for Vonage no longer work.  Current tech said, "COSTCO has a great set of Vtec cordless phones that will work fine."
When I made the request to return to Verizon I was told I could return to copper.  I specifically requested that & after research the Customer Service person told me it was still available in my neighborhood.  Yet, when 1st tech showed up, told me that was not true & I "had to go to FIOS."
So, Verizon installed a FIOS network I did not want, REQUIRING me to purchase phones I don't need.  In fact, all of my corded phones worked just fine previous to FIOS!
As much as I detested Vonage I'm already to leave Verizon.  Next step, Virginia Utilities Commission.

  • My IPhone does not ring into my voicemail from my land line which I have set up to forward to my IPhone. How do I fix this?

    HI,
I bought my IPhone 4 in March of 2011. I use it for work purposes and I have my landlind from my desk forwarded to my IPhone. I am current on all of my updates but for some reason around AUgust 8th or the wek of I have not been able to get voice messages from my forwarded calls. The land line will forward to my cell and my cell will ring but it does not roll into my voice mail. I have been on the phone with Verizon who sent me to Apple who sent me back to Verizon. Is there anyone else out there that has had the same problem?

    Hey mslisa12

  • Using iPhone in place of land line

I would like to get rid of my land line, but living in a trilevel house I don't want to have to carry my iPhone from room to room all the time.  Is it possible have handsets in several rooms all connected to the iPhone?  If they had very limited range they couldn't be used outside the home.

You may want to look into something like Dock N Talk or Xlink. You can tie them into your existing phone wiring and continue to use your regular corded or cordless phones throughout the house. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=dock+n+talk

  • STRANGER GETS MY LAND LINE NUMBER FROM MY IPHONE CALL

Using my iPhone, I called a stranger in error.  He answered, whereby I realized my mistake.  Instead of being courteous, as I should have been, and saying, "Sorry, wrong number," I simply hung up.  This apparently upset him, because he subsequently called my land line and left a threatening message, telling me never to call again.  So, hmmm, how did he get my land line number?  I'm guessing because it showed up, on his end, when I initially called him with my iPhone.  It was associated with or attached to my iPhone number.  I know that when a certain relative calls me, more than one of her numbers shows up on my call-back notification.
What do I do to prevent this?  I must be able to control and limit the information about me that people I call can get.

There's absolutely no way your land line # was transmitted as CID when calling from your iPhone.  If this person found out your land line #, he looked it up based on the name and/or cell # of your iPhone.
The only way he could have your land line show when you called his cell phone is if he already has your full contact info in his phone, including  your land line - i.e. you are already known to him.
To avoid this in the future:
    1. Disable caller id:  Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > OFF
    2. If you don't want to do that, have your carrier transmit only your cell # without your name.  Your name can still be researched, but usually require payment
    3. Get an unlisted land line phone.
    4. Research all the things that can be done with a baseball bat.

  • Can't access one of two land-line accounts

For at least 20 years we have had two land lines in our residence.  When we got "Triple Play" Fios in 2005 the package was attached to line 2 for billing purposes.  But within Verizon the linkage between accounts for the two lines is about non-existent.
When I log in to billing for either line, I also have the choice of changing to the other account's billing---no problem.  Now I want to upgrade one of my set-top boxes.  So I login to MyVerizon as usual and it gives me all the information for line 1.  And it asks me to sign up for internet and TV services.  I already have those services, but MyVerizon doesn't seem to know it.  So I look around for the same "change account" link I found in the billing area, but there isn't any.  So I have no way to change any of my TV and internet services because I cannot access the account for line 2, to which these services are attached.
It apparently never occurred to Verizon that there might be a household somewhere that would actually have more than one land line.

Actually, right now I'm on the telephone with an extremely helpful Verizon representative who is not only fulfilling my request but also rearranging my service.  I will have not only increased service but also a lower bill.
Therefore, it is not necessary that I be contacted further.

  • Need Land Line Telephone in Order to Fix DSL

My Internet was out when I got home last night so I called Verizon to see if there were any outages. After going through the usual tests, the customer service representative still couldn't figure out what was going on with my line, so he asked if I had a land line telephone to plug into the wall to see if I can check for a dial tone. First of all, I haven't owned a land line telephone in over five years. Second of all, it was past 10 o'clock at night and it's not like I could just knock on a neighbor's door and ask. When I asked if they could just send a technician out to check the line, they said no and insisted that I needed to find a land line telephone to check for a dial tone. I asked my friends in the closest proximity to me and even went so far as to go to my local drug store and Home Depot to see if a store might have a cheap telephone I can buy, use then return but to no avail.
I think it is absolutely ridiculous, in this day and age, that Verizon has no better solution for me other than to "find a land line connected telephone" in order to fix my DSL. At this point, since none of my friends seem to have a phone I can borrow, I'll need to buy a telephone that I don't need just so Verizon will finally send a technician out to check what's wrong.
No real solutions until I find a phone, so I'm just complaining here since there doesn't seem to be a formal process for filing customer complaints. If anyone does know of any, please share so I can find the appropriate venue for my complaint. Thanks!

They're giving you the runaround to get this issue resolved. A landline phone is only good for checking DSL lines if Verizon actively puts a signal over the line even if you don't have voice service. This "tone" could be anything from a dial tone that goes to a fast busy when you try to dial, or a plain old fast busy. Even then, it could just be silence.
What exactly is going on with the Internet? Is your DSL light solid on the modem?

  • Looking for a special land line phone system

    Hello to all,
Is there a phone system available where a wireless component plugs into a phone jack and transmits the signal to a full base phone?
This sounds confusing but here's the situation. My mom has an apartment in an assisted living residence.
The land line phone jack is on a wall across the room where she normally sits.
I could buy a 30 foot line and run it across the floor to bring the phone base to her, but I was hoping that this type of phone system exists. I wanted to eliminate running a long phone line.
Has anyone heard or seen this? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Skype calls from a land line

Can an international land line call me on skype? If so how do I get a skype number, and is there a charge for me to receive the call?

Hi, Annikamalone, and welcome to the Community,
Yes, anyone calling you via your Skype Number would be able to reach you regardless of whether they were calling from either a fixed line or a mobile number.
You would not be charged to receive a call on your Skype Number; however, your callers would be (toll charges, and so on).
Here is information regarding obtaining a Skype Number: Skype number

  • Why is it taking Verizon almost 4 weeks (so far) to fix a land line?

Is anyone else waiting a long time for repairs to their land line?  My land line went bad over 3 weeks ago. I can't make or receive calls through the copper connection.  Although I reported it to Verzion, I am still waiting for it to be repaired. Every time I call, which has been often, I get the same old response about a "major cable failure" in my area. Then I am given an expected date of repair, which always passes without any repair being done.  This service would be expected in a third world country, but not in New York City.I have read that Verizon wants to do away with hard wire connections and are in no hurry to repair these lines, hoping that you'll switch to a more expensive alternative.  A coworker told me his mother waited over a month (in Brooklyn)  for land line repairs while Verizion was dragging its feet.Any suggestions on how to get Verizon to do what they're supposed to do?

  • Compatible land line cordless phone for HH5?

    Hi,
I want to upgrade from HH1.5 to HH5.  I'm currently using the BB softphone with the HH1.5, so that will have to be binned as it's not compatible with HH5.  My question is what type of cordless land line phone can I use with the HH5?  Would the 8500 or something similar be OK?  I have 1 master socket and 2 extensions which are about 10 years old.
    Regards
    Ellislivy
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can use any landline phone, as the HH5 is only a modem/router, and has no phone circuitry inside.
You can still use your BT hub phones in conjunction with the HH5, provided you keep the HH1.5 as well.
This diagram will show you how.
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/phones/hh3phone.jpg
If your HH1.5 is still working fine, I would keep using it, as the HH5 does not really offer many advantages, and if you still have the extra Broadband Talk phone number, you will lose it if you change your broadband contract, or ask for a new hub.
The HH1, 1.5 and 2.0, still give better wireless range than the newer home hubs.
