IMP-00010 when importing a database

Hello,
i've exported a database using
expdp system/password DIRECTORY=data_pump_dir DUMPFILE=full_export.dmp FULL=ybecause i formatted then the HDD and i wanted to import later the exported database. i used Oracle 10gR2, and now i installed the same 10gR2 (not an earlier version)
when i tried to import the .DMP file, i got
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
first i typed in command prompt imp . Then i entered the username and password (first i created the user which has exported the database, previously). and then i entered the path of the EXPDAT.DMP file, including the file.
Is it necessary to import using Oracle CLIENT 10g? now when importing i don't have a client installed, i work just on my local machine
Regards,

Yes, it's the same .dmp.
Here is the export log (when i exported, i saved the log)

  • Using Imp utility to Import a database on 10g release 2

I am using the Imp Utility on 10g release 2 to import from a 10g release 1 database. I have created a new tablesapce and need the dmp to be imported to the new tablespace. But it goes and imports to the system tablespace. The command i use is
    imp <User name>/<password> file=<file_name> log =<log name> full=Yes
the user name and password i use is the username and password i gave in the installation for system tables. When i specify the tablespace imp <User name>/<password>@<tablespace> it comes with "ORACLE error 12154 encountered".
Do i need to create a new user to get the import done. How do i create it?

The contents of the dump will be imported to the tablespace under which you run the import.
If your dump from Oracle 10G R1 is a complete database dump and you need to import the data of a specific user in the dump, then you can use fromuser= touser= options in the import command.
If your Oracle 10GR2 database is blank, then you need to create the user in which you can import the data. You can use a command like this.
    CREATE USER sidney
    IDENTIFIED BY out_standing1
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE example
    QUOTA 10M ON example
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
Note: sidnye, out_standing1, example, temp are all arbitrary names. You need to match these with your environment.

  • Import (imp) failing with IMP-00010 error

    Hi Experts,
I am doing import to Windows from an export dump that was taken on Solaris 10. But the import is failing with the following error.
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
I checked the source and target oracle versions and NLS_LANG parameter.
In both the databases NLS_LANG parameter is set to AMERICAN only. But the oracle versions are different
    Source
    OS : Solaris 10
    Oracle version : *11.2.0.2*
Export dump : exp_CAAU2.dmp.gz (Export taken by zipping)
    Target
    OS : Windows server 2003
    Oracle Version : *10.2.0.2.0*
While importing into windows env, it is failing..
Please let me know the reason why the import is failing?
Can i upgrade the target oracle version to 11.2.0.2 to succeed the import?

    Hi,
The IMP indicates this this error is coming from the old imp. This dump file could be from the expdp utility, which would require you to use the impdp utility.
    Source
    OS : Solaris 10
    Oracle version : 11.2.0.2
Export dump : exp_CAAU2.dmp.gz (Export taken by zipping)
    Target
    OS : Windows server 2003
    Oracle Version : 10.2.0.2.0
While importing into windows env, it is failing..
What really matters here is the compatibility level. If your source and target compatibility levels are the same, then with Data Pump, the dumpfile created on the source, would work on the target. If the compatibility levels are different, then use expdp with the version parameter set to the compatibility level of the target.
Please let me know the reason why the import is failing?Check the suggestions above first.
Can i upgrade the target oracle version to 11.2.0.2 to succeed the import? It could help, but first check to see if you are using the right utility and then check the compatibility versions.

  • IMP-00010: not a valid export file (downward from 10.2.0.1 to 8.1.7.0)

    Hi,
We have requirement to transfer User's all tables from 10.2.0.1 database to 8.1.7.0 database
I have successfully exported user along with all tables and its data from the 10.2.0.1 database,
now when i am doing import into 8.1.7.0, i am getting the following error :
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
when i searched the internet, in the one blog it mentions as below :
Oracle's exp/imp utilities are not downward compatible.
you must use 9.02.1 exp to extract from instance 9.02.03 and then you are able to imp into 9.02.1
so as per above, i will have to use 8.1.7.0 exp to extract from instance 10.2.0.1 database.
So, how it can be done ?????
where i have done mistake ???
    With Regards

It seem you quoted me out of context. I was trying to point out that why read some blog entry of the 'net when the basic rules are clearly documented.
    fbortel wrote:
Well in that very same piece of documentation it becomes clear you cannot export 10G, and import into 8i.Which section says this?
The table (if that's it) gives a few exampes: "Table 19-7 shows some examples "
I'm pretty sure that anything after Oracle8 should work. As long as you are using the right version of 'exp'.
But there is a Metalink Note that goes into more detail. (and should be more correct than my memory allows me)

  • IMP-00010  on same version of oracle

    hello all,
i am having *"IMP-00010 not a valid export file header failed verification"* on same version of oracle database. following are the specification of my setup
oracle version on client: oracle XE 10.2.0.1 (windows 2003 server *32-bit*)
oracle version on server: oracle database enterprise edition 10.2.0.1 (RHEL5.3 *64-bit*)
actually i am trying to import a .dmp file on server through client machine using D2K6i sqlplus....it is on 32 bit and server is on 64-bit architecture...i have made necessary entries on client tnsnames.ora to connect to server....
i can connet to respective user from client, i am also able to execute some procedures, but when i tried to import a dump file to server from same client then it is giving IMP-00010 header verification fail...i have taken recent dump file and sure it is not corrupted....
so what might be the reason for IMP-00010????
    any suggestion is appreciable..
    thanks and regards

    hello satish sir,
    actualli we have scenario like
    1. client 1 and server in HQ (client 1:- windows server 32-bit server:- RHEL 5.3 64-bit)
    2. 5 remote location with all client machine with local database XE (windows XE 32-bit)
    3. dump is taken using local export utility and taken in USB drive ( external HDD or pen drive)
    4. USB dumpfile is then copied to client 1 at HQ
    5. then this dump file is imported to server (in HQ) from client 1 using command line through a script
    6. at the import command it gives me error that IMP-00010
    7. rest of the commands fails
but even i tried to run import command it is not running.... other commands in that script are working well...i think it is much clear now.....and i am not getting exact reason for this
    1. is it due to use of D2K6i sqlplus
    2. or import from LAN is not supported.
    3. dump file corrupted ( how come all are corrupted??)
i have got a metalink doc 277650.1 is it usefull???
    thanks and regards

  • I am getting an error ORA-39143 when importing a dump file

I get ORA-39143: dump file "c:\oraload\expdat.dmp" may be an original export dump file
when importing a dump file created by 9.2 exp into 10.2 database using impdp
I need to use the impdp utility with the table_exists_action option which doesn't appear to exist in imp
What is the proper mix of versions/flags/options to export from a 9.2 database and import into an existing 10.2 database while replacing existing data?
    thanks

well its on the link i provided
"When tables are manually created before data is imported, the CREATE TABLE statement in the export dump file will fail because the table already exists. To avoid this failure and continue loading data into the table, set the import parameter IGNORE=y. Otherwise, no data will be loaded into the table because of the table creation error."
original import tries to append (insert)
there is no parameter here like table_exists_action=truncate/replace
    1. drop all the tables (dynamic sql), so there will be no errors because of already existent tables
    or
    2. truncate all the tables (dynamic sql) + use IGNORE=Y
    (or
    3. drop the whole schema in target database, recreate it, then do the import)

When using export/import between different releases, you need to use the older version of export to create your dump file. In your case, you must use the 8.0.5 export utility to export from your 8.1.7 database. You need a tnsname in your 8.0.5 tnsnames.ora that points to your 8.1.7 database. Then you use SQL Net to connect and do the export. So, instead of doing exp system/manager you would do exp system/manager@tnsname. Just be sure to use the 8.0.5 export, and your import will work fine.

  • Use of imp/exp to restore a database will fail ??

I have a database that uses mdsys and other user-defined objects. This week I've had the "pleasure" to try to restore a database from scratch using imp, but had to abandon because imp refuses to create tables if they refer to objects, that upon export had a different id than the database being imported to.
Since mdsys for instance, is always excluded from exports (like sys and system) when you create a new database, the spatial objects are created with a different ID than the original database. Hence, every table you have with spatial data will not be imported.
So imp only works if the internal object ids match.
What would be the "imp/exp" procedure to do a full db restore that bypasses the above problem? Has datadump solved this issue?

Correct - all schemas considered part of the dictinary are excluded (why has things become so complicated- in the old days we had ONE place where everything dictionary went).
That's the problem. I have tables in my export that depends on MDSYS objects. In other words, spatial data. So, to re-create my database I must first create a database and ADD a MDSYS schema. So yes, I created the schema prior to import. The problem is, that the MDSYS objects then do not get the same object-ids. And there lies the problem. IMP will not import my tables with spatial data in them because the reference to the MDSYS objects do not match the object ID that was used during export. Why this rule is applied is the mystery.
In addition, which I rote in the spatial forum, anything related to the mapviewer application is also placed in the MDSYS schema, excluding them from export; regardless that the data related to mapviewer is not related to database objects. The result is, that your Oracle Mapviewer application data is lost. The "official workaround" is to run pre-scripts that copy the dictionary views to fixed tables, then run your export. And on import you run a post-script to copy it back. Rather silly and inflexible.

  • Imp problem, IMP-00010 header file error

    Hi all,
I downloaded the global sample schema from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/index.html. There is an dump file in sample and when I want to imp the file I got the error IMP-00010.
I search the forum and understood that the problem might be the "http download" I made. But otn doesnt allow ftp download.
    Anyone has any suggestion?
    thanks
    yasemin

    The error code says this:
IMP-00010 not a valid export file, header failed verification
Cause: Either the file was not generated by Export or it was corrupted.
Action: If the file was indeed generated by Export, report this an Import bug and submit the export file to Oracle Support Services.
I want suggest you to use the latest version of "imp" that you can. Also I want suggest you to do the import in the server side with the server executables and not in a client station.

    Hi, Henry,
Your database created in different language and character set to the dmp file, you can change your nls parameters then try it.
