Impasto brush in PS CS5?

I haven't figured out how to paint w "depth" yet in CS5.
Here's a quote from the web in response to reviewer who says no impasto in CS5 -- what on earth is "LMB" in photoshop(I could not find that answer either) is it a key command? Thanks!

It’s called Mixer Brush Tool. Hold LMB over the brush button and voila. Manipulate you impasto needs without limits, wet, slightly wet, dry, how much paint there is on the tip, do you want it to refill after a stroke and so on. You can also set it up to act as a knife if you like.

Slow Brushes In Photoshop CS5

Hi:
I've just started experimenting with the new capabilities of brushes in Photoshop CS5 and I'm having problems with the brush response being abysmally slow. I'm working on a Mac Pro Quad Core, 2.93 GHz with 8 MB of RAM and a wrireless mouse. Can anybody tell me what might be contributing to this slowness??

I've installed the 12 02 update and the latest drivers for the
FX3400 graphics card. Now when CS5 opens it tells me its disabling theGPU enhancements. I have the GL turned off.
It also likes to crash when I run Imagenomics plug ins.
So CS3 did not use GL? Whatever. So that means that its slow and crashes now. I can see in other threads here and elsewhere the retarded brush action is common. They released CS5 too soon. Its not even half-baked. Also I want the images to open on the right monitor but with CS5 I have to drag each image over to work on it.
I'm back to using CS3 and they said my refund will be credited to my card the first week of January. I'll have to monitor to see if they get their application working before I return as I have wasted so much time with this I think they should pay me for helping with their product development.

Roblem with the Spot Healing Brush Tool in CS5

I have a problem with the Spot Healing Brush Tool in CS5. When opening a number of files to work on them the Spot Healing Brush works initially fine and without any problems. After a few files the Spot Healing Brush doesn't work any longer, even I didn't changed any settings. So far I solved the problem by closing and reopening CS5 which is not a very efficent way to solve the problem Does anybody have an idea what is causing the problem and more important how I can fix it.

To reset, select your Tool, right, or ctrl-click (Mac) on its' icon in the top Option bar, and you should see the reset menu.

Brush Shape Dynamics CS5

Is there a way to turn of shape dynamics in the brush dialog in CS5? I used to be able to uncheck if in previous version of CS, and it would stay unchecked. Now it will not stay unchecked.

If the icon (circled in red below) is enabled, this may be
the cause.
Try clicking the icon to disable and see if that helps.

Roto Brush issue in CS5 Premiere Pro

I am a new CS5 user with a week of learning under my belt. (My previous experience was splicing 8mm film together when making films as a kid.) I am hoping someone can advise on an issue I am encountering in CS5 Premiere Pro? (I realize Roto Brush is a tool in After Effects, but I am having trouble with the output of the Roto Brush tool in Premiere Pro.)
I opened a .VOB file (taken from a DVD) in Premiere Pro (first I changed the extension to .MPG). It opened as 720 x 480 at 23.976 fps. No problems scrubbing through and using the Razor tool. I selected one of the small razored subsections I made from the video, and opened it in After Effects using the Premiere Pro menu selection: File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Replace With After Effects Composition. No problem opening in After Effects. I learned the Roto Brush tool and it also worked great as I successfully masked out a moving figure - looks great. But ...
When I return to Premiere Pro, the After Effect composition does not display the same as it did in After Effects. Specifically there appears to be some kind of mask/motion mismatch, and so a bluish border will appear on some frames around the figure as it moves. In After Effects the rotoscope is perfect, but in Premiere it is like a poorly done rotoscope with the borders of the figure messed up. I am hoping the comparison images below will make this clear. The image on the left shows the perfectly rotoscoped figure in After Effects, and on the right the same frame but in Premiere Pro. Note how the image in Premiere Pro has a messed up border around the figure?
Has anyone experienced this or know why it is occuring? I can think of some possible work-arounds that could be tried, but the dynamic link method is nice and fast. So before I start rendering and saving and reopening files in a work-around attempt, I am wondering first what could be causing this issue. Thanks for any ideas.

Just to let you know that you've posted in the Audition (audio) forum and may do better posting over in the Premier Pro forums.
However, as one who works in both video and audio, I'd just comment that your choice of export format is affected big time by what you want to do with your edit. Things like Youtube, DVD, Bluray, etc. all have their own formats that you have to adhere to. Within those formats you often have choices you can make to balance bandwidth vs. quality but these only come into play once you've decided where your project has to end up.

Healing brush Mode Resetting - CS5

In CS5, the mode for the healing brush is resetting anytime I change to a tool other than one in the healing group (e.g., spot healing, red eye, etc.).
This happens even with temporary tools changes...for example, in Healing Brush, I set the mode to Replace, press and hold Z for Zoom and when I release the key, I'm back to healing but the mode is set back to Normal!
Am I missing a setting somewhere? This didn't happen with CS4 and doesn't seem to happen with any other brush-based tools.

Problems with deco brush in Flash CS5?

Hello,
When I try to use the deco brush in CS5 some of the properties are not there to tweak. For instance when I try to flower brush it creates flowers but the advanced options are not changable. The categories such as Flower color, Flower size, Leaf color Leaf size and Fruit color are there but there are no options to change any of these. The same issue happens with the lightning brush, the Tree brush, the smoke brush, the decorated brush, the fire brush and just about any brush except for the grid brush which has options to use a symbol. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a way to get the settings to be invoked? Is it just broken?

Nevermind... I restarted Flash and it miragically appeared! Yay CS5!

Brushes in PS CS5 paints somewhere else?

Hi, I am using Photoshop CS5 to paint my textures and sometimes when I do a brush stroke, Photoshop is painting that brush stroke somewhere else on the canvas, NOT where I am painting.
This is really weird, I have never heard of any glitch/bug like that before, it also does the same with any other similiar tool like the eraser and clone stamp.
I am not even using custom brushes, just the standard photoshop brush. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a known bug in CS5?
I am using Photoshop CS5 x64 on a Windows 7 machine. Please respond if you know what may be wrong. Thanks!

This has happened when video card drivers are not up to date.
Check the web site of the card manufacturer (not the computer manufacturer or Windows) for the latest drivers and install them.

Can I use older brushes in AI CS5.1?

Hey all--There are scads of free brushes out there, but some of them are pretty old. Can I use brushes created for CS3 or CS4 (and CS5 and maybe as old as CS2) with AI CS5.1? Thanks. --d

How to disable anoying and slow stamp brush preview? CS5

i have this problem in Photoshop CS5
as always, with nev version we got new features which nobody needs and slow down the performance... and/or workflow
for example: anoying preview under the stamp brush, which is unbelievably slow and cannot be turned off
next thing is brush shape preview, i often use large brushes and i need to see the whole shape, not just one quarter of the brush, please change that

If not for the new features, why upgrade Photoshop?
You have video driver problems. You are also likely wrong that OpenGL Drawing is turned off on your system, assuming by "stamp brush preview" you mean the overlay preview inside the brush for the Clone Stamp tool, because with OpenGL disabled you wouldn't be seeing that overlay. Keep in mind that when you make OpenGL changes in the Edit - Preferences - Performance menu you should close Photoshop and reopen it.
Why do things work differently in CS5? The simple answer is that Photoshop demands more of the video drivers than its predecessors. And your computer / software setup isn't up to the task.

By the way, the Clone Stamp overlay (assuming that's what you're describing as the "stamp brush preview") is not "unbelievably slow" on most peoples' systems - it's perfectly interactive and a real help. To turn off the Clone Stamp overlay, choose Window - Clone Source, then uncheck the [ ] Show Overlay setting.

Brush Unavailable In CS5??

Hello,
I've opened a tiff image in CS5 Extended and when I work on a Channel mask with a brush set to Overlay mode I cannot paint with white; not until I open a blank new work page (cmd+N). Then the brush will paint in the mask. The tiff is in RGB and 8 bit mode. This behavior does not happen with CS4 Extended.
Will someone please point me to a fix?

Sample point of Healing Brush tool in CS5

Hi.
In my previous version of PS (CS2) when using the Healing Brush tool the sample point remained in the same place after alt-clicking - irrelevant of where I moved around the image - this is great for spotting large areas of similiar colours as you know the sample area is clean.
With CS5, the sample spot seems to move with the mouse - as in, it always stays the same distance from the mouse as you move around.
Is there a setting I can change that will make it work similar to CS2?

Install brushes in Photoshop CS5.1

Hi
I am attempting to install these brushes to Photoshop CS 5.1
I have previously used them in Photoshop CS4 64 Bit Extended
I went through the same process - put the ABR file into Presets>Brushes but the brushes do not appear in Photoshop even when the computer has been restarted.
Am I doing something wrong, or are the brushes incompatible with the new Photoshop?

I don't think just dropping brushes in a folder is the preferred way to load them.
Have you tried clicking the fly-out menu and choosing Load Brushes?

Moving custom brushes from Pshop CS5.5 to CS6

Is it possible to move custom brushes from Pshop 5.5 to 6? When I choose Load in 6, I can't even open the Brushes folder in 5.5
Will 5.5 brushes run on 64bit?

Thank you for your professional response. You may be using a different Mac platform than I and all the Mac users I know. When I have Pshop open and search to transfer/load brushes, Finder does NOT appear in the Menu bar.... only the Apple icon and Pshop menu commands. The Apple icon is not the Finder.
When I'm out of Pshop on the Desktop, which THEN displays Finder in the Menu bar, then there is NO way to transfer/load brushes into Pshop.
Therein lies the ambiguity of your initial response.
As you can see by these screen captures, the Rec Brush I created in a tutorial using 5.5 (first three images - v5.5), does not appear (fourth image - v6) when I attempt to Load it into 6 Brushes out of v5.5. Yet the Flames (SS) brushes (second, third, fourth images) I downloaded from a site DO appear and I was able to transfer them.
The Load process (in v6) is not recognizing the CUSTOM brush (generated in v5.5) for some reason...

Transfer and brush dynamics broken (CS5.1) Help?

Hey all, my brush preset panel is stuffed. I use modified versions of the standard round brush for my art. And just a few days ago when I started up photoshop, my transfer and shape dynamics tools were not working. I can tick them on and off, edit the sliders and such but it doesn't effect the brush like it should. Does anyone know why it might not be working?
I tried re-booting the brushes and resetting the painting workspace but it didn't make a difference. I then unistalled photoshop under the impression that if I re-installed it, it wouild load up photoshop with factory settings. But it just re-loaded the broken version I thought I had deleted and it has no icon now.

To achieve that you need to trash the preferences (by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears).

Are you sure it might not be an input problem? Have you updated your OS or the tablet’s drivers recently? Does pressure sensitivity work properly in other applications (or with other brushes)?
