Implementing APO/VMI

Can anyone provide insight regarding implementation of APO and VMI for large customers, e.g., ease of implementation, time to implement, challenges in implementing VMI, things to watch out for during implementation and execution?

Hello,
Let me give you some insight on VMI.
- Please examine this SAP Library link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm2007/helpdata/en/f1/f69a3dcbcfac53e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
- In case of VMI Scenario, you are supposed to use APO specific VMI Purchase order number. SPRO   > Advanced Planning Optimization   > Supply Chain Planning   > Supply Network Planning   > Vendor Managed Inventory   > Maintain Purchase Order Number Assignment in SAP APO. ( please also go through IMG Help against this node )
Hope this helps you.

  • APO VMI Consignment- functional  questions

    Hi Gurus,
Has anyone implemented APO VMI with Consignment Option. I am wondering if any one of you out there with proper experience can answer the following questions.
    1. We have our own disctribution centers where we maintain consignment stock for customers. How do you grab the consigment stock issue quantity information for KE order into APO VMI planning book?
    2. We have 'make to order' scenario, how do we grab the sales order stock information into APO VMI planning book?
For the above questions, are there any configuration settings that can be used without involving custom development?
    Thanks,
    Srini

XML will be needed over external link, which means you would need to create a link in SAP where this XML data could be posted. XML is a web standard and can be posted over internet. So linkage is not a problem, however security of data being posted , or allowing external data could be an issue.
EDI subsystem allows you to map the data conviniently and securely however its not a web standard and also you would be dependent on EDI subsystem for interpretation and mapping of data.
    Hope this information helps.

  • What are the disadvantages of implementing APO- Demand Planning without improvements or cleaning up the MRP. in other words is DP implementation dependant on MRP process. Gurus please advise

HI All. What are the disadvantages of implementing APO- Demand Planning without improvements or cleaning up the MRP. in other words is DP implementation dependant on MRP process. Gurus please advise

    Hi Amol,
DP is the demand planning machine, here you estimate your forecast (future sales).
The MRP is a supply planning machine, here you use estimate the replenishment.
Both machines in a technical perspective are independent one each other. Now in a business perspective they are not: The problem that you will have if you don´t clean your MRP elements is not a problem in DP itself. I mean, you can have a very success implementation in DP, your forecast accuracy will be very good.. and you will get a very good forecast, but when the MRP run and estimate the replenishment, the effort that you made in DP will not be translated in good results and your planning situation will be still not good.
    Kind Regards,
    Mariano

    Hi,
VMI is Vendor managed Inventory. APO can plan for VMI scenario. In a situation, when the stock level at the end customer is known to APO , then APO can plan the requirements at the customer level.
The aim of vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is to integrate key customers in supply chain planning. The customer regularly sends stock and sales data to the vendor, and based on that information, the vendor determines replenishment requirements for the customer
VMI as a concept must be same in APO and R/3. But, such planning is possible in APO. I am not sure whether it can be done in R/3 system.

  • Implementing APO DP Module

We are implementing Demand Planning where the Planning team will be entering the consesus forecast through <b>SDP94</b> Transaction.
    Currently its around <b>300</b> with a likelihood upto <b>500-600</b> within <b>1 year</b>.
We are planning for about <b>1200 WDs</b>.
We are doing the planning for around <b>1200 custome</b>rs and <b>800 SKUs</b>.
We are currently having <b>1 Planning area</b> and 1<b> MPOS</b>.
    We have arround <b>250000 CVC's.</b>
We are facing high response time issues where the planners are doing a drilldown through the lowest level of <b>WD-SKU</b> combination.
Kindly let us know having multiple planning areas with multiple MPOS will improve on the response time.

    Hi,
You can have one MPOS, one PLanning Area but different
    Planning Books.
Also try to restrict the data in the SELECTION IDS.
Create as many selection IDS as possible restricting the data to that particular user.As I believe one user will not have the necessity to access all of the data.
Here are a few other suggestions which will increase the performance
    (1) Planning Area:
    Ø     Key Figures:
If it is used for reporting purposes, move to BW
If it is used to calculate dynamically, consider planning book key figure
Limit the number of keyfigures in Live Cache as they have an effect on the performance.
    (2) Planning Books design: Most Important- This is one of the reasons, the system interactive performance becomes slow
    Reading Data from Live Cache:
Say a Planning Book has 10 Key Figures and the data view has 5 Key Figures.
Whenever we try to access the data view, it will try to read all the key figures from the Live Cache. This affects the performance heavily.
Ø     It is always better to create as many planning books as possible without any issues.
Ø     Hide Key Figures that are used for calculation
Ø     Remove Unnecessary Horizons as there is a way of initializing the planning area for a single key figure
    (3) Macro design: Audit the macro definitions
Ø     Only calculate the horizon which is necessary
Ø     Row Attributes should have only one iteration
Ø     Default Macros: Consolidation of steps
    (4) Batch Processing: Another important factor for poor system performance
Ø     Create separate planning books for the batch jobs
Ø     Combine macros which use similar key figures into a single job
    (5) Sizing of the LC server: Factors which affect the sizing are key figures, characteristic combinations, horizon. Generally it is recommended that the memory consumption should not be greater than 80% of the available server memory space.
    Hope this helps

  • List of hardware we need for implementing APO DP,PPDS &TPVS

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone please let me know the list of space and harddisk we need to get for implementing DP, PPDS & TPVS to one organization ,
We have around 50 users over with all the modules listed above
    DP--- cvc max 50,000
    PPDS---2000 products 3 locations
It will be really great help.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Raj

    Raj,
Not enough info.  However, you are in luck.  SAP offers a do-it-yourself web app called QUICKSIZER in which you can answer the questions yourself.
Quicksizer output will give you storage reqments, and it will also create a standardized measure of processing power requirements.  This standard measure is understood by all the major hardware vendors, and they can quickly give you the actual hardware you need to buy, based on your desired manufacturer, CPU, and operating system.
    http://service.sap.com/quicksizer
I suggest you download the 'Using the Quicksizer' docs first and give them a read.
    http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000071577&
Then go into the app and create a project.  You can save the project and re-open it if it takes you several sessions to complete the data entry.

  • Re: Implementing Of SAP-APO-SNP

    Dear All,
Is it possible to implement APO-SNP alone along with SAP ECC.
If yes,Can I be advice upon any particular aspect to keep in mind before advicing this furhter to my client.
    Regards,
    Vivek

    Thanks for the information..
    I have one more thing.
I am exploring the SNP because the client is looking to optimise their logistics cost. As I understand that In SNP the transportation lanes feature can cater to this need. My only point here is that I want to use APO for the Deployment side & not for the production side..That means I would be using the system MRP result for carrying out the production execution & will not be using SNP here but for mpving the stocks between the network I am intending to use the SNP Deployment feature.
Please advice me whether this is a right approach from cost implications perspective.
    Regards,
    Vivek

  • VMI and  reduce Stock in Transit - what are the right methods?

    Hi Gurus,
We are using APO system to implement VMI functionality to replenish stock at customer location.  We need to build stock in transit at customer location after PGI happens in ECC.
Now, stock in transit is show up in 'Stock in transit' key figure, but the question is how to reduce stock in transit once it is received at customer location.
SAP recommends following four methods to reduce:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm2007/helpdata/en/f1/f69a3dcbcfac53e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    1.  Goods receipt information is not sent from the customer to the vendor
    2. The open purchase order quantity is sent from the customer to the vendor
    3. A proof of delivery is sent from the customer
    4.  The stock in transit quantity is sent from the customer to the vendor
Out of these 1 and 2 methods are feasible in our scenario.
Please share your experience if you have used any of these methods, I want to hear from someone who implemented any of these methods before deciding on a method.
    Thanks in advance,
    Niranjan

    Dear Niranjan,
I have implemented SCM-APO VMI using Past Releases of SCM  (version 4.1) for upto 300 Customer Sites & 500-1000 Products.
In my experience ... this is a Big Custom Development using EDI - IDOCs / ALE wherein you Receive from Customer the Data either as "Open Orders" or  "Goods Receipt" of VMI Order at Customer Store or "In-transits" as they view it.  There is a Facility to receive them in the PROACT IDOC but you have to write IDOC FUnction Modules to post the Data to the
VMI Planning Area as well as at Product-Location you have to Daily Delete the In-transit Order (Category EI or AH for ASN) and Upload Intransit Quantity directly into Live-Cache as a Order.  The Development is also complex as you need to Map the VMI Customer Product to the Vendor/Manufacturer's Product COdes in SCM-APO.
I have experience implementing VMI like this several years ago ... and I am not sure if SAP SCM-APO built anything Standard for the Interface over the years.    If you are not sure get a ALE/IDOC & ABAP Consultant or  XI Consultant to work with you on the Project.
You can Delete In-transit Quantities by using RLCDEL  Transaction for Category EI or AH (if ASNs are used).  You need a IDOC/ALE Development to Calculate and Upload In-Transits and Update into the VMI Planning Area as well as Download to a FILE which you can use via another ABAP Development to Upload In-transits at the Product-Location (Customer) in SCM-APO.
    Hope this helps.

  • APO and BW

    Hi Group
We have BW 2.1 installed at the moment just for reporting purposes. We are in the process of migrating the reporting to another software. In 3 months we will fully complete the migration to the new reporting software. Thus we will not be using BW anymore.
At the same time, we are going to implement APO. I understand APO comes with BW also.
    1) My question is, can we expire the existing BW and not use the BW that comes with APO?
    2) I also hearing that APO needs BW engine? Is this true?
Our intention is to expire the BW completely and use the new reporting software. Also want to use APO for VMI.
    Kindly advice.
    Thanks
    Yuva

    Hi,
You get BW along with SAP SCM-APO system and cannot be separated. The SAP BW system is fully integrated in APO and can be installed on the same server. The version of BW depends on version of SCM. It can be used to store data but cannot be so performance effective for reporting. You may use the external BW system to report but not needed. You can use BW in APO system to use for all purposes such as storing history from other systems, get the data from APO and store etc. If you dont want an independent SAP BW system, you can still workout. You can store the required data in APO-BW and using reporting tools such as cognos and report on them. SAP BW has a technology named OPEN HUB that lets it send the data from cubes to other systems.
    Finally:
    1) My question is, can we expire the existing BW and not use the BW that comes with APO?
A: Yes you can expire your independent BW system but cannot live without APO_BW as BW in APO is not separately. You have to use BW atleast the one that comes with APO.
    2) I also hearing that APO needs BW engine? Is this true?
A: Not completely true. As I said, if you don't want to report using BW, leave the independent BW system and use an external reporting tool to report in BW in APO.
In V5.0, there is more flexibility. You can load data to planning area from flat file directly bypassing BW. But if you want to avoid BW all together, you life could be miserable!

  • APO gATP vs R/3 ATP - To check sales order ATP across multiple plants

    Hi There,
I am trying to evaluate gATP functionality for SD sales orders.
The primary requirement is to have sales order ATP checking take place across multiple plants.
    E.G.
Sales order line is entered for qty 100
60 is available in plant A, 40 is available in plant B
System checks both plants and creates 2 lines - one for delivery from plant A and one for delivery from plant B
(we are currently heading down the road of writing ABAP to do this 'multi-plant' check in R/3 but the more complex the requirements get the more interested I am in understanding more about APO/gATP)
I would like to understand the benefit of implementing APO / gATP as opposed to using standard R/3 ATP and perhaps writing custom ABAP code to search for inventory across multiple plants.
I would appreciate any insight regarding what is required to setp gATP to perform such checking and any other feedback regarding this issue - especially if you have had to implement something similar at your company.
I have looked here but not much clear help:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm50/helpdata/en/26/c2d63b18bc7e7fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    Thanks,
    Niall

    Hi Niall
you are probably looking at RBATP (Rule based ATP). Look at transaction /sapapo/rba04 in APO where you develop your own location and product substitution rules. Going down an ABAP road in R/3 may work short-term but not long-term as the requirements may get more complex.

  • Finding Product Demand in SCM/APO

Does anyone have any idea on where I can read data regarding to history of demand for a product on the SCM side?  I'm working on a report that requires "detailed demand history" for 12 months and for 24 months, and is run within SCM only.  In ECC that is a table MVER that shows demand by period for a product.  I'm looking for something similar to that.  Thank you for your help.

Typically one should have implemented APO DP module to see history and for this it would be important to import this data into APO.
In SNP, you can view open sales orders but not the ones that have been post goods issued.
Overall, you would need to activate quite a few things to see Product Demand in APO.

  • Create iPPE data in APO

    Hi everybody,
We have ECC 6.0 system and implementing APO 5.0. We realized that Model Mix Planning meets the production planning requirements. However, we do not have DI system (which uses iPPE data).
Is it possible to create iPPE data directly in APO manually without transferring from DIMP system, and then planning using MMP in APO, and transferring these planned orders to R/3. I read the note below in help.sap.com. According to this note, it is possible to create iPPE in APO. Then can we say that we can use iPPE data with standard R/3 system (i.e. not a DIMP system)?
Prerequisites for "Generating Production Data Structures (PDS) from iPPE Data ":
1)You have transferred the iPPE data from the DIMP system via the Core Interface in SAP APO, <i><b>or created iPPE master data in SAP APO</b></i> and maintained production versions.
2)You have checked the data in the DIMP system with the iPPE consistency check.
    Thanks in advance.

am not sure if you want to know just where it is created.havent tried creating it manually in APO so am not sure of the issues
you should see the transactions related to this under "masterdata" from the user menu
    /sapapo/ppe to start with
