Important to most of oracle users - suggestions requested

I want to buy a new laptop with windows vistha home/professional laptop.
I heard and doubt that if it would support following oracle tools installtion:
Oracle Client,
Forms, Reports developer
Oracle Workflow
Oracle Discoverer Reports
Oracle BI/XML Publisher
If it does not support these at this point, I would think Oracle is going to release some special release for Windows Vista home/professional.
Experts, please I need your suggestion.. should I go for it or only look for XP pro release 2?
Thanks a lot in advance for your time and helping..
Narasimha

Vista: It's a bit rubbish (IMHO).
You could install a Red Hat variant, such as Centos, install VMware on that, and then use other operating systems on VMware to run everything else.
If you want a good guide to installing VMware for Oracle usage, see http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/695#exotica

  • Import Oryx BPMN in Oracle BPA

    Hi All,
I am new to Oracle BPM world. I have a business requirement to import the Oryx BPMN process in Oracle BPA.
I already have the Oryx export files in .bpmn and .xpdl format. Now how to use and import these files in Oracle BPA?
Request you to please guide on this.
    Thanks
    RJ

    Heres what i did.
Created a bpmn process in bpa,
then went to the menu bar, click on soa > transform the process to bpel , then after that is done, went to the same menu bar , clicked on soa > share blue print with IT.
After that in Jdev, when creating a new composite, i selected the option "create composite for ORACLE bpa blue print" ,
Then established connection to the bpa repository, chose the database, and then the bpmn process, and voila , the process got created in jdev.

  • Encountered an error while getting the ORACLE user account for your concurrent request. Contact your system administrator

    Dear Techies,
We have registered an Extra Information Type as self service OAF page and did some validations using user hook which are working fine. But for some requests EIT creation page is throwing below errors.
    1. Encountered an error while getting the ORACLE user account for your concurrent request. Contact your system administrator.
    2. An unexpected situation occurred while executing routine FND_DATA_SECURITY.GET_SECURITY_PREDICATE_HELPER.The cause was: The parameter 'p_object_name' cannot be 'GLOBAL'.
System throws these errors whenever user hook suppose to throw our customized validation messages.Since we are at UAT instance, we are bouncing apache and oacore to get rid of these errors every time they appear. But we cannot bounce once it is moved to production.
Kindly share some ideas  to fix these errors as we are very close to Go-Live and we are facing this issue with all EIT's and SIT's.
    Thanks and Regards
    Dileep Kumar.

    Hi Mahesh,
    Thanks for reply.
I have gone through the link that you have suggested. But our EIT user hook validations doesn't  have any code related to submission of concurrent programs. More over our error is not stable. If we bounce the apache and oacore, the system will work fine without unexpected errors for some time. We are not even able to replicate these errors.
    Thanks and Regards
    Dileep Kumar.

  • How to import your MS Active Directory users in an Oracle table

    Hello,
I first tried to get a Heterogenous Connection to my MS Active Directory to get information on my Active Directory users.
This doesn't work so I used an alternative solution:
How to import your MS Active Directory users in an Oracle table
    - a Visual Basic script for export from Active Directory
    - a table in my database
    - a SQL*Loader Control-file
    - a command-file to start the SQL*Loader
Now I can schedule the vsb-script and the command-file to get my information in an Oracle table. This works fine for me.
    Just to share my scripts:
I made a Visual Basic script to make an export from my Active Directory to a CSV-file.

    Greetings,
    Richard de Boer

I have a table with about 50,000 records in my Oracle database and there is a date column which shows the date that each record get inserted to the table, for example 04-Aug-13.
Is there any way that I can find out what time each record has been inserted?
For example: 04-Aug-13 4:20:00 PM. (For my existing records not future ones)
First you need to clarify what you mean by 'the date that each record get inserted'.  A row is not permanent and visible to other sessions until it has been COMMITTED and that commit may happen seconds, minutes, hours or even days AFTER a user actually creates the row and puts a date in your 'date column'.
Second - your date column, and ALL date columns, includes a time component. So just query your date column for the time.
The only way that time value will be incorrect is if you did something silly like TRUNC(myDate) when you inserted the value. That would use a time component of 00:00:00 and destroy the actual time.

  • Script request for  exporting, importing, inserting entry to Oracle 9i LDAP

Do anyone has the scripts for exporting, importing, inserting entry to Oracle 9i LDAP server? Thanks for help.

you can use ldapsearch utility to generate ldif files. Perform a search on the node you want to export and specify the output to be in LDIF format ( -L - this is a ldapsearch option). Once you have the ldif file, you can import it to any LDAPv3 complaint server such as OID. for OID, use ldapadd/ldapmodify utility to import the data.
These utilities are present under IAS_HOME/bin or ORACLE_HOME/bin.

  • Importing excel data into oracle tables

    Hello gurus,
Importing excel data into oracle tables..
I know this is the most common question on the thread ...First, i searched the forum, i found bunch of threads with loading data using sqlloader, converting excel into .Txt, tab delimited file, .csv file etc....
Finally i was totally confused in terms how to get this done....
    Here is wat i have
       - Excel file on local computer.
       - i have laod data into dev environment tables(So no risk involved, but want to try something simple)
       - Oracle version 11.1.0.7
       - Sqlplus and toad (editors)
Here is wat i like to do ....i dont know if its possible
        - Without going to unix server can i do everthing on local system by making use of oracle db and sqlplus or toad
SQLLOADER might be one option...but i dont want to go the unix server for placing files and logs and stuff.
Wat will be best and simplest option to do?? and wat format will best to convert from excel into csv, or txt or tab delimited etc.....
If you suggest sqlloader, any code example will be greatly appriciated.
    Thank you so much!!!

    Imran,
This is increadible option in toad!!! It works absolutely sweet!! I have toad 9.7 version. IT works great. Thank you so much!!You are welcome :)
Well i have further discussion on this ....this option is great if you doing in staging or development area. What if your doing in prod?? If you automating the sqlloader then how do u do it?? I think we still need to stick with traditional approach of laoding data by making use of SQLLoader right ?? If m wrong please correct me.well, in our case, we do have access to a custom schema in prod where we create the staging table and load the data from datafiles.
    try this:
    load data
    infile 'C:\dest.csv'
    into table dest_table
fields terminated by "~" optionally enclosed by '"'
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
    (name,
    owner_nm,
    description_column,
    UPDT_DT DATE 'MM/DD/YYYY')
    {code}
you can get more info about sql loader and your error here:

    http://www.allinterview.com/showanswers/53766.html
And one more quick question ...i found an example of control file , in that i see .dat format file. Is it a data file ?? can i try that option ?? But in excel i didnt see to convert the .dat format file.
    Any thoughts ???
It is same as a delimiter text file.
steps to create a .dat file (from a excel file):
    1. Insert a column between two columns and populate it with the delimiter (in our case, it is ~)
    2. Save the file as unicode text.
    3. Open the file in text editor and remove all the tabs (find an replace with blank)
    4. Save the file as "DEST.dat". Select encoding as UTF-8 while saving.
    5. Your .dat file is ready.
    Regards
    Imran

  • Groups in Linux needed for 'oracle' user

I have a new server running OEL6 that I plan to install EM 12C and a database using ASM.
My install user is 'oracle'. Documentation states that 'oracle' should have the primary group of 'oinstall' and a secondary group of 'dba'.
Awhile back (before things were Grid Infrastructure) we had some problems with an install and an Oracle support person told me to get rid of 'oinstall', and soley rely on 'dba'. She talked about the numerous support calls serviced by introducing both groups.
I took her advice, and most of our things are still running with 'oracle' and 'dba'.
But, we are embarking into a new world, and perhaps the 'oinstall' and 'dba' issues have been worked out, and there is a benefit to having multiple groups. We are a pretty small shop and don't have different groups doing things; we are mostly a few of us required to do it all. In that sense, less is more--more easier to support.
Are there recommendations for the 'oinstall' and 'dba' groups? Pitfalls encountered?
    Sherrie

    Thanks Loc.
Most of the documentation that I've read, including the note you mention, says that going forward from 11.2, oinstall should always be used. I think it's a blanket statement intended to cover all bases, and I can understand that architecture in a large group, where one group might be responsible for an install, another group for managing a database, and perhaps someone else managing storage. I'm trying to undersand how oinstall vx dba groups are used, and why oinstall is so important.
In our group, there are just a few of us, and we do it all.
We have 5 clusters wiht 28 managed databases at 11.1. All of those were installed with the primary group of dba, and a secondary ground of oinstall. They've been working fine for a few years.
We are now installing EM12C grid on a new machine, starting with grid infrastructure to get ASM installed, so that our repository database can use it.
So, on this Linux box we will have ASM, database, agent and OMS. It's a standalone box, and our primary group is oinstall.
I have been having trouble getting the first step of this completed, installing GI to get ASM up and running. But, that's not part of this question.
Once I get this all configured and running, I will have to install the new agent on all of our targets. Over on those old boxes, he'll still be installed as 'dba', which can read all of the targets. So I think I'm okiay. It's just that I'm stuck with one foot in each door. But having 2 groups for the 'oracle' user will make it okay.

  • Oracle users and application users

    Hi All,
I'm currently developing a small application, probably 50 users max. I'm still having a hard time as to how I should create and manage the application users. I've thought of 2 ways but not really sure which will be the best approach.
    Approach 1: 1 application user = 1 oracle user.
    - This way I can create roles with specific privileges and grant them to particular users.
    - I won't have to manually configure/grant users access to specific modules in the application.
    - Each user will have their own connection since they will use their username and password to build the connection string.
    - I will be able to use the auditing feature.
Approach 2: Create 1 user/schema with all the objects needed for the application then create my own users_tbl to store user credentials such as username/password etc.
    - Manually configure access to users on specific modules.
    - All users will use 1 connection string.
    - Will not be able to use auditing feature.
can anyone else suggest any other approach or comment on my 2 approach.
also, i will be using vb.net using vs 2005 to develop the application for my oracle 10g express edition database.
    thanks.

    Hello,
Just to throw something into the hat....have you considered using the already installed APEX development environment that already comes with your XE?
Much of this sort of 'connection pooling/handling' disappears using the APEX environment as it is all automatically-handled for you (which means you can then concentrate on the really important stuff).

  • Problem logon as oracle user.

There was a problem with my installation of oracle (8.1.5) on solaris 8 intel. So I logout out of oracle user.
Now I cannot logon through CDE.
There is a console message when logging on as root.
The error message is SMTP-DAEMON needs 101 in /var/spool/mqueue.
    NOQUEUEL: low on space.
Any suggestions to solve my problems?

This looks like your 'sendmail' couldn't create a directoryfor group 101 (possibly your oracle dba account group). Check if your logs aren't full or you might temporarily shutdown sendmail just to enable you to log on.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi user12841694,
Thanks for the suggestion. But, the data (field) that can be modified by the approver is very limited. We cannot attach multi-valued attribute there (like Child Form).

Can you locate the iTunes Library.itl file on the old drive? Ideally you would have simply copied over the entire iTunes folder structure from <User's Music> on the old computer into <User's Music> on the new one to transfer the library will all playlists, ratings, play counts etc. intact.
