Importing JVC MiniDV through Dazzle Hollywood Bridge - Trouble!

I have a project that is due tomorrow! This is what has happened. I plug my JVC camera into my Dazzle bridge, connect the bridge to my iMac through firewire. Next, I open iMovie, and normally it will bring up the video capture screen and tell me that there is no device control. However, at least once I was able to import video manually without any trouble. But now, even when I use the Pass Through on the bridge, press Play on the screen(import screen in iMovie), click import, tell it to add it as a new event, and then click Import again and press play on my camcorder, the little red record light will come on but the timer next to it stays at zero - even though my video is playing on the camcorder. I hope this isn't too confusing, but would love any direction!!!

Hi
*Some general - unsorted thoughts about this Camera = AD-box in this Case.*
Test another FW-Cable.
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
(Other hard disks don't count)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
this and have a re-try.
Using WHAT ? :
• Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
• QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
• iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
• iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
from LKN 1935:
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935
from Karsten:
in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
a technical check:
connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?

  • Not getting a clear input from VCR through Dazzle DV-Bridge

I have a Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge device so that I can take VCR tapes and eventually burn them onto a DVD. It takes the audio and video from the VCR and pumps it into my Mac via Firewire.
The problem is that no matter what tape I play in the VCR, I'm getting distortion at the bottom of the screen. What can I do about this? Anyone know? Why is it only at the bottom? I want to clear this up before I digitize and put it on a DVD.
In the following screenshot, you will see what I'm talking about right below the "import" button.
    http://tinyurl.com/29clta
    Thanks!

Yes, I see what you mean, and I get this quite often. It is partly the timecode track, partly an audio (mono) track.
I have learned to ignore it in iMovie as it never appears in the finished DVD.
Considering how cheap a blank DVD is, try it out!

  • I can't get my Dazzle Hollywood Bridge to output timeline to TV monitor

Pretty much as the title says.
All I get on screen are variations on a black & white picture from a normal solid picture to various moving stripes & checkerboards, all in black & white.
I did get it to work very briefly for about ten minutes the other day & I had a moving colour picture but then I changed a setting & it's gone back to being as mentioned above.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I gather that Dazzle don't have a great reputation.

    Thanks for that.
I've managed to get my Dazzle bridge to display to the TV but it still seems very flaky.
Basically, I switched my video out put to "non-controllable device" & suddenly, up came colour on the TV! Woo-hoo!!
Then, my e-mail went ping so I switched apps to check my messages & when I went back it was a black & white checkerboard again! D'oh!!
So I fiddled around with plugs & settings a bit & suddenly, when I went on to "basic firewire" up came colour again! Woo-hoo!!
This happened several times & there doesn't - in my case at least - seem to be a setting that's the "right" one, just that forcing the bridge to do something different seems to kick it in to action.
A pain in the posterior, to be sure, but at least I'm able to get some work done now.
Just to confirm, I'm sending all frames, mirror on desktop is on, refreshing the AV has no effect (by which I mean that's not the thing that's making it work again each time) & I have the external hard drive connected to the Firewire 800 output, the Dazzle bridge connected to the Firewire 400 output & a single yellow (is that composite?) connector going to my TV with audio set to default so that it comes out of the laptop speakers.

  • Dazzle Video Bridge

I have a Dazzle USB Video Bridge. Is there a way to import video into iMovie using this? I cannot get iMovie to recognize that it is there. Any ideas are appreciated.

    FunkMaxtor,
To work with iMovie, I believe you need the FireWire version of the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge.

  • Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge no longer works with imovie

For many years I had use the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge to transfer video from either a video camera, vhs, dvd player, etc with no problem. After not using it for about a year, I try to use it again now and it does not recognize the video signal coming through the Bridge. It knows that a Hollywood bridge is attached, but does not recognize any signal. I first thought that was related to the new imovie version but I even downloaded again imovie 6 and did not work either.
At one specific moment, it started to work but only transferred video to the imovie 6 version for 7 minutes and the dropped forever.
Anyone knows anything about how to solve this problem? Not sure if the Dazzle DV Bridge is broken now and I need to replace it. Any suggestion?

    Jros,
Amazing ... I have the exact same issue ... last time I used the Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge was with my G5 iMac and OS x 10.4 ...
Now, 1 yr. later, I wanted to start importing VHS tapes again with my new Intel iMac using OSX 10.5.2 ... same thing ... iMovie does not even recognize the unit at all ... mine does not seem to be recognized at all as in iMovie, the only import 'camera' that shows up is the built in iSight cam in the iMac. ??? Strange.
Let me know if you find that there is some sort of a fix or what might be done to get it to work again.
I read elsewhere that 2 other options may be the Canopus ADVC110 or the Miglia product that looks like the Apple TV form factor. I'm not sure at this point which one is better.
I still would like to use the Dazzle - as it WAS working perfectly with OSX 10.4 and G5 iMac.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • FCP4.5, Dazzle Hollywood Dv Bridge, PAL & NTSC Detection

FCP 4.5 HD - QT 7.1.5 Pro - Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge - Australia PAL
Discussions about the pros and cons of the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge aside, as I've read a number of threads and am aware of various opinions on the devices failings. I've had one for a number of years without any problems, purchased long before finding out about Canopus. Anyway ....
I've had no issues with capturing PAL footage to FCP 4.5 using the Dazzle, however when trying to capture a friends NTSC tape to either FCP 4.5 or iMovie HD, I can get picture and audio, but the picture is Black & white, so I'm assuming the Dazzle is not switching from PAL to NTSC. (PAL being the default). All the FCP settings are correct for NTSC. (And I've tried them all).
Anyone know how to resolve this?
This device is recognized in the System Profile with unit software version 10001.
And yes, I'm looking at a Canopus ADVC110, but if I can avoid spending $450 (approx) I'd much prefer it. Thanks all

After a frustrating morning working with the Dazzle, I tracked down and purchased a Canopus ADVC110, which also didn't work.
Did some more digging and came up with the following:
Here in Australia we use the PAL television format.
Most televisions, VCRs and DVD players have both PAL and NTSC playback.
However the NTSC playback format used by most multi-format PAL VCRs is NTSC 4.43.
The Canopus ADVC110 uses the true NTSC format 3.58, and won't recognize 4.43. (I found this information on the Canopus website discussion forum).
Lucky for me I had a PAL format JVC VCR that could be set to playback NTSC 3.58, which connected through the ADVC110 allowed me to successful transfer the NTSC tape to my Mac through FCP 4.5. Now to make it into a DVD, after tweaking it a bit.
What's a little annoying is that the Canopus ADVC110 box says quiet clearly on the back, "Pal/NTSC Compatiable", which it is, but perhaps they should go into a little bit more detail.
I'll test the Dazzle tomorrow, and see what happens.

  • Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge Converter

I posted this question back in December (and tried the suggestions with no success), but since I haven't been able to resolve it, I thought I'd give it another try. I have been trying to import analog from the VCR into iMovie 6 using my Dazzle converter. It's worked for me in the past with iMovie 4, but isn't working for me now. I keep getting 3 messages that are displayed one after the other - "camera connected" then "no device control" and then "camera disconnected or off" and then the 3 messages continue to repeat. I've replaced the firewire cable so I don't think that's the problem. I feel like the green light indicating the mode on the converter should stay on "A to D," but even when I try to select the mode, it keeps changing from green to red & cycling through the modes. Is there a preferred order to turning on iMovie, the converter & the VCR player? Any suggestions?

    Hi James,
I received my Dazzle DV bridge today from ebay and have spent hours trying to get it to capture.
I may have just found a solution!
I have just tried idive from aquafadas and managed to get some footage in.
When using it I tried my camcorder set to camera then I had no issues but as soon as I set it to player and played a tape It just would not work.
After starting the tape playing I then used the on-screen controls and clicked stop and then play and my footage appeared. Then just clicked record and managed to grab 20 mins perfectly.
Still got some experimenting to do but thought you might want to check it out.
Going to try it on my older mac tomorrow with imovie as the newer macs have been suggested as being the problem. Also going to try using it without a computer and see if I can convert 8mm tape directly to my DV camcorder.

  • Trouble transfering my vcr through a dv bridge into FCP

    Hello,
I am stumped and have been trying for three days. I feel I have tried everything. I have a DV bridge to transfer my vhs into my computer. It is just sees the audio and no video. It at one time saw the video for 15 min then it crashed and I can not seem to get video back. I have tried everything from buying a new dv bridge (which did not work at all although it was compatible for pc the salesman said it would work on a mac but I am not convinced for sure) I bought a new VCR. I have changed cables and tried also on my laptop. I have tried using different settings but I think I have the right ones. Please help I am frustrated. Oh and I tried in imovie and that as well does not work it just crashed everytime I tried to use it.
I am using non-controllable device (although I tried firewire too)
Is there anything else I can do to get this to work. I am using hollywood dazzle dv bridge from a few years ago. It use to work when I used AVID.

What kind of DV camera? Does it have any type of analog audio port? If it has s-video, it should have some type of audio plug as well, otherwise all you'd get playing out to a tv is video, no audio.
Do you have the manual for the camera? It should tell you whether the s-video (and assumed audio) is in/out or out only.
If you can determine that it is capable on taking an analog a/v signal in, then you could route cables from your VCR, into the camera (analog), then FW (digital) out of the camera, into the mac.
Settings would be DV-NTSC, non-controllable device, capture now...make sure to set a time limit in System Settings/Scratch Disks tab and place a checkmark on 'Limit Capture Now to:'
You might search this forum for more info regarding the Dazzle, but seems others have had issues with it as well.
BTW...the Canopus 300 offers much more control over your video signal that the 110, but the 110 would suffice.

  • Dazzle hollywood dv bridge and Imovie

I'm on a powermac g5 runnning tiger and my Dazzle dv bridge doesn't seem to be working with imovie. I recieved as a gift from my uncle who had used it for years with no problem, however when I connect everything and try to capture video all I get from imovie is a pixilated image and a message that says the device is putting out half sized frames and to check the connections and camera settings. what can I do to solve this problem. any help would be greatly apppreciated.

    Hey guys,
I had the same problem last week when I got my new iMac & used iMovie HD. I got a message saying that the frames were half sized (though I couldn't see anything). I re-connected the cables from both ends, made sure the vcr was set to the proper setting, selected SP or SLP, unplugged the Dazzle bridge & powered on again. Got the camera connected message, as I did the first time, selected play, but no video image ... waited a couple of seconds and then it worked. It seems that I had to select play & import then de-select them, wait again for a second and then try to capture ... go figure. I've used it a couple of times now and it's worked fine. I think I also flipped the toggle switch on the Dazzle unit once it was connected to iMovie & I think this also worked ... can't remember for sure, but I think this also helped straighten it out.
The Dazzle bridge DOES work with Tiger & iMovie HD.
Let me know if this helps.
    Take care,
    Brent

  • IMovie '11 and Hollywood Dazzle DV Bridge

I cannot get iMovie 9 to work with the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge.
    Any advice?

The cameras I have, have RCA output connecters red for power, white audio, yellow for video---my question is---is there RCA to FireWire adaptor so I can attatch a camera to my iMac G4 to us it as a "webcam" ?
I had the system working once but the Hollywood Dazzle DV is now not working.

  • IChat w/ Dazzle DV Bridge

Hello, I am trying to use a Hollywood Dazzle DV Bridge to transmit analog sources such as tv, dvd, & vcr etc... It works fine, and I have to figure out the 6 minutes time out problem.
The one item I am having problems with is that the video image is inverted left to right, sort of like when you use a lcd projector and have to switch from a rear projection to a front projection.
    Anyone come across this?
The video part of the picture is not noticeable. But when text or lower third graphics show , they are viewed right to left instead of the normal left to right.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dennis,
I have a Dazzle DV bridge as well.
It works fine. I do not have any time out problems that are not related to my camera. (the anti (tape) stretch feature normally kicks in befor e six mins on my camera).
My Camera is set to Camera mode which will out put a TV signal for dipalying on a Tele or for Recording direct to a VCR. The Dazzle then converts it to DV and sends it to the computer over firewire. (the OS recognises it without further software).
Pics and info for those who do not know what we are talking about http://www.computervice.com/Products/Dazzle/DV_Bridge/
iChat is the thing that is turning the Pic to Mirror view.
This is a "feature" that Apple has put inot iChat.
You soon get used to looking at yourself like it was a mirror. Your Buddies see you the right way round.
For iSight users there is http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/ which will allow you to switch the pic around. It does not work with the Dazzle though (Nor does iChatUSBCam other functions other than allowing the Desktop to be used as a Video source)

  • Dazzle Hollywood DV

How do I use the Dazzle Hollywood DV analog to digital converter on my iMovie 06 and my iBook G4?

1.Plug the Dazzle into the power outlet in the wall.
2.Plug and turn on the video source to the Dazzle (vcr / camcorder? Make sure you have a tape that is rewound an has something on it in the VCR/ Camcorder and that the video plug is going to the video in and the audio is going to the audio in.).
3.Plug the Dazzle into your laptop via the firewire cable.
    4.Open imovie
    5. Choose "create a new project"
    6. Give it a name
    7. Give it a location to store it's self ( in your movies folder)
8.Select "switch to camera mode" on the imovie main screen ( to the left of the play button, it looks like a little camera)
9.On your VCR/ Camcorder, press play.
You should see the video on your mac now.
If not there is a little button on your Dazzle near the LEDs press that until you get a green light on the A to D ( analog to digital)
If you still see nothing check your cables make sure that the video and audio are not mixed up as they go into the Dazzle.
    10. Capture the video by choosing import on the video screen as it plays.
You will not be able to control the VCR/ Camcorder from imovie but you can fast forward and rewind from the VCR/ Camcorder.
    Good Luck.

  • Problem importing a MiniDV video on Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Air with OS X version 10.9.2 and Final Cut Pro X trial version 10.1.1. I am trying to import a miniDV tape using a Samsung miniDV Camcorder but I'm having trouble doing it. FCP recognize the camara as a DV and it sends the play, rewind, fast foward and stop funtions to the camara without problem but when I tried to import the video nothing happen. I can watch the tape in the playback function of the camera without problem but can't do it in the Mac.
I have already import 2 tapes but I don't understand whats the problem with this one. Can any one help me?
    Thanks

    Hi Russ
I am capturing directly to my MBA.
When I click import the playback on the camera starts but the screen on the Mac is black. After a few seconds everything stops. It doesn’t import anything.
As I told you, this is the third tape I am importing and I don’t know whats happening.
    Thanks,

  • Importing Contact Persons through DTW

    Hi,
I´am trying to import Contact Persons through DTW. These "Contact Persons" belong to Business Partners that already have "Contact Persons". I want to add new contact persons to these Business Partners. The problem that instead of adding those Contact Persons, the DTW is updating  the Contact Persons that already exists.
I have two files, Business Partners and Contact Employees. In this first one I´m using two fields (Recordkey and Cardcode). In the second one, Contact Employees, i´m leaving blank the field "linenum". I´m also setting in the third step of the DTW process, the option of "Add all items into Schema if can´t find corresponding item when updating". In the 5 step I choose Update objects"
    Thanks in advanced

    Aridane,
Apologies ... I misunderstood what you were asking.  If you look at the sample temple for Contacts that are related to Business Partners at ...
    ..\Program Files\SAP\Data Transfer Workbench\Templates\Data preparation examples\20. TestCase2_Test Data for Update function\oBusinessPartners\ContactEmployees.csv
Here you can see that you have to relate the RecordKey of the ContactEmployee to the RecordKey for the Business Partner. If there are multiple contacts for the same Business Partner, the RecordKey is repeated as in the example and you increment the LineNum for each different Contact.
    HTH,
    Eddy

  • I'm getting an error message after importing a table through Dreamweaver into a page developed in Muse.

I'm getting a couple of messages after importing a table through Dreamweaver into a page developed in Muse. I have compared the code of the page with the table with the page before I inserted the table and cannot find anything missing. the web address is http://gourmetdreams.com/weekly-menu.html
How can I clear this up?
I also noticed that when I uploaded the file there was one error: "- error occurred - Access denied.  The file may not exist locally,  may be open in another program, or there could be a local permission problem."

Thanks for your help! I imported the table into Muse, then exported the site as html and opened it in Dreamweaver. I should've tried that in the first place but gave up when I couldn't edit it in Muse. I didn't know you could edit the html right in Muse. Also, my styling and the images I was using weren't showing up in Muse but once I opened it in Dreamweaver, everything fell into place. AND I could edit it! My client needs to edit this page every week, so I needed to be sure she could do that. She doesn't use Muse but does use Dreamweaver. At this point, I think I'll leave it alone and not try to style it with inline css. Maybe when I get a little more time, I'll try it. I just don't want to mess things up now that the're working.
