  • Character problem in toad import table data from excel

    Hi everybody,
I want to import data from an excel file to an Oracle table, so I'm using Toad's "Import Table Data" tool for this purpose.
The problem is Oracle doesn't import non-english characters properly.
My database is XE and character set is 'AL32UTF8'.
I searched web, but didn't find the solution.
    Please help...

    Hi again,
Thank you for your reply Srini, but it is not about Toad.
Character encoding of Excel causes the problem.
I exported an unicode encoded csv file from excel and tried to load data from that file. It worked.
    Thanks.

I bought Numbers because my Excel files would not work with Mavericks. How can I import a non-functioning Excel file into numbers? (As of now, the file NAME transfers but data does not.)

    HI Dave,
I'm surprised you get no message when you attempt opening the Excel document in Numbers.
I'm assuming Numbers 3.1, since you are running Mavericks.
Does the Numbers file that opens show any content?
    Does it contain a table?
    How large?
Does it contain more than one tab (indicating more than one sheet)?
Do those other tabs contain a table?
Have you checked those tables for data content?
There have been cases in the past of imported documents opening with white text on a white background, giving the appearance of containing nothing. Check for this by selecting a block of cells, then applying a Fill colour or a Text colour using the Format button (paintbrush).
I'd also suggest attempting to open the Excel files using LibreOffice, which can be downloaded from the linked website.

    Barry

  • Which ActiveX command do I use to IMPORT TEST FILES INTO EXCEL?

    Happy New Year!
I am trying to write large data files to XL, but they take very long to write. Now I am trying to write text files and then near the end of teh program import them into an Excel file. IS there an ActiveX command I should use for this (invoke node)?
    Thank-you!
    Ivanka

    Yes, you can do it.
    1. Write a simple VBA procedure in Excel to import text file (or, you can use the macro recorder in Excel to do it) and very it works properly.
    2. Copy the code into a string constant in your Labview code. The code must contains "Sub ... End Sub"
    3. while you are sting inside Excel, disable Excel macro security check to make it to setting "low"
    3. If you have report generation toolkit, then there are three methods: Excel Import Module, Run Module and Remove module. Wire those in sequence with all the appropriate inputs. I'm sure there are corresponding method in Excel ActiveX but could not remember it.
    4. test it and modify it until it works

  • Photostream import prompt meaning?

hi leonie, all. i am getting the following prompt when importing photos from my iphone and i basically don't understand this since i have not seen it before. i believe i recently checked the automatic import setting but i can't really recall if i unchecked automatic upload on the mac pro (what i am working on now) or if this was the MBP.
anyway, does anyone know what this prompt is telling me?
also, is it possible that images from my CAMERA ROLL are thought by Aperture to have been imported into my library via aperture whereas in the past i had though that photostream was only a sync operation? i mean, are there images in my photostream projects that did not get imported into a "real" project somehow?

    hi leonie.
thank you so much. if it is OK i think i am going to start another thread with questions following up on your help regarding two-step import. i realized recently that i have one or two questions about this issue and your help here is really great. at the same time i don' want to clog up this thread with these follow up questions.
can i please ask you though about this import prompt which i think is linked (presumably) the behavior of the "Automatic Import" option?
    1. am i correct in thinking that this prompt is linked to my checking the Automatic Import option and that if i uncheck this i can simply manually import photos to my aperture database on the mac pro using the USB connection to my iphone?
    2.  i want to make sure i understand this and i think you are saying that checking this option means that these imported photos are now automatically arriving in photostream - and aperture is thinking that i already imported them - is this correct?
    3. again if i am understanding correctly if i want to have these photos (409 apparently in my case) added to the Aperture library in a Project (and not simply in the PhotoStream Project because this is not where i am storing my data) - that i should import the 409 photos via Image Capture (plus the other 20 that i already imported the other day when i got this prompt) and then i can import them all into into Aperture and delete the 20 that are duplicates - does that make sense?
    THANK YOU

  • Automator-How to batch import txt files into excel

    Hi
I have been using Automator to import hundreds of text files into one excel workbook using the "Import Text files to Excel Workbook" action. Automator works great for all files that are tab delimited. However I have another set of data that are output with a varying amount of spaces between each column. I cannot change the way they are output. Automator gives me the option of choosing "space" as a delimiter, but it wont give me the option to "Treat consecutive delimiters as one" that Import within excel does. I also tried to record my actions within excel many times but it didn't work even with just one file. So what I need is a way to get these text files into one excel workbook as separate worksheets with the data separated correctly into columns.
    Any help would be great!

I'm confused by the "I cannot change the way they are output" line: What's stopping you from reimporting them into excel and resaving them as tab delimited?  Converting from fixed-format to tab-delimited is always a bit of a pain (it involves chunking each line to the correct sized bits and then stripping whitespace from the end - doable in applescript and shell scripting, but a headache to get right); no sense remaking the wheel if you can get Excel to do it for you.

  • How can I change the import options for an Excel table in InDesign CS5.5?

    Hi,
I have a problem with an InDesign script that works this way in ID CS4 and ID CS5, but stops working in ID CS5.5.
What the script should do, is to change the import preferences for a table saved in an Excel file so that I can place an unformatted table into a new textFrame in my InDesign document. The Excel document is an .xlsx-File.
    function setExcelImportPrefs() {
        with (app.excelImportPreferences) {
             app.excelImportPreferences.tableFormatting = TableFormattingOptions.excelUnformattedTable;
What the script does (or at least seems to do) is: nothing. The table that is placed into the textFrame by the script is always formatted, as this seems to be the standard preference of InDesign CS5.5 for importing tables out of excel files.
Does anybody have a hint for me how to make the script work in ID CS5.5?

Okay, now it is working. I had to save the XLSX-file into the older XLS format, but that seems to work quite well.
But I won't ever understand why InDesign loses its backward compatibility from one version to the other.
    Thank you, -hans-.

We don't know the "query on Importing data from Microsoft Excel to Oracle Database (Multiple Data Tables). "
We don't know where you posted said query.
We don't know what "some answer and reference" you received "from the forum."
We don't know what it was that your "Oracle consultant and representative from Oracle Malaysia" said was "impossible".

Treat the excel file as you would any other file you load into the Repository.
Files can be loaded into the Repository from the Repository Object Navigator, the Commandline tool or even through the Java API.

  • Import Meta Data to Excel

I have never needed it before, but nowe it becomes very important:
I need inm Excel the clip name and the exact lenght.
Before, I just copied the lenght from the thumbnail (not accurate, because it does not show the frames) and very big strain on the eyes looking at hundereds of clips.
Now I discovered the following: import all clips into FCP 7 go to metadata and keep only Clipname and Duration visible.
I selected all and then created a batch list, which I opened and copy/paste in Excel.
I am sure, there is a more simple way to do that?
    Thanks
    Dorian

Thank you, but I would be using this function maybe 5-6 x a year max.
So 100 $ would be just a bit too expensive for that.
    Looking for a simple solution.
Also want to mention, I need only the clip number (which I can import directly to Excel) and the duration.
    Thats all.
Edit: An Internet search showed me, that you can import a batch list (which is exported directly from FCP) direct into Excel.

  • Importing metadata from Microsoft Excel or Access to Adobe Bridge CC metadata

I'm trying to figure out how to batch import a substantial amount of metadata in Microsoft Excel or Access to the IPTC core fields in Adobe Bridge CC. I've seen the issue discussed, but many of the posts about it are six or seven years old. So here are the simplest statement of the questions:
    1. Is it possible to export data from Excel or Access to XMP and then batch-import it in Adobe Bridge CC?
    2. If it requires templates, are there commercial, shareware, or freeware templates that will achieve this?
    3. If so, what are the links to those repositories?
    4. Is there a set of step-by-step instructions to achieve this on PC and/or Mac?
    5. What are the links to those instructions?
Thanks in advance for your help. I've used Bridge from CS1... but I've never used it for batch-importing to IPTC.

    Well,
it works for me without problems.
Some information on my setup and what I did:
    - my primary browser language is English (en-us)
    1) Save the data in a file called hardware.txt:
    SERIAL,HOSTNAME,ITEM_TYPE,BRAND,MODEL,OWNER,STATUS
    AEP016136,d2vmrw61,Laptop,Dell,m71,Gary Cleary,Active
    AEP016169,dhj3b71,Desktop,Dell,Dimension 4700,Unassigned,Active
AEP016170,cn-0g8432-64180-52p-1yts,Monitor,Dell,E193FP,Unassigned,Active2) Load the data (Load text data) into an existing table by uploading a file:
    - File: hardware.txt
    - Separator: , (comma)
    Worked fine.
    3) Load the data (copy /paste spreadsheet data into an existing table):
    - Open the file hardware.txt in Excel and import it into the spreadsheet
    - copy all three lines and paste them into the textarea in XE (the difference is that the columns are no longer separated by commas but by tabs)
    Worked fine as well.
Please try the above mentioned steps and see whether you still get the error.

  • Can I use Power Query to Import a table from Excel sheet range which starts not from the top row?

    Hi,
Being an experienced Excel user before Power BI, I am just starting to explore the M and Power Query capabilities, and need help already (ain't easy to google this use case somehow):
I need to import the table which sits in the Excel file with header row in the row 17 of Excel sheet, with some metadata header in the preceding rows of the columns A and B.
    01: Report name, Quick Report
    02: Report Date, 1/1/2014
    17: Employee Name, Manager, etc...
18: John Doe, Matt Beaver, etc.
Both (a) direct attempt to load as Excel file and (b) the indirect way through [From Folder] and formula in custom column -- both lead to the same error: "[DataFormat.Error] External table is not in the expected format."
Specifically, I tried to use the [Power Query -> From File -> From Folder] functionality, select an Excel file and add a custom column to access the binary content: [Add Custom Column] with formula "=Excel.Workbook([Content])".
It looks like Power Query expects a rectangular range with headers full-width followed by a contiguous table range to import anything, and refuses to load if that is not the case...
QUESTION: Is there any way to load whatever-formatted data from Excel first, and then manipulate the overall imported range (like referring to rows starting from 17th using "Table.SelectRows" etc.) to read the actual data? Reading and using
the metadata from header would be a bonus, but that comes second... The main issue is to get something from a non-regular Excel file to later work with using M formulae ...
    Thanks!
    SAM

Finally found the answer to this one in ():
You Cannot Open a Password-Protected Workbook
If the Excel workbook is protected by a password, you
cannot open it for data access, even by supplying the correct password with
your connection settings, unless the workbook file is already open in the
Microsoft Excel application. If you try, you receive the following error
      message:
    Could not decrypt file.
ANSWER: So, will have either weave in the work with temporary unprotected files or requires opening them before updating the data source (although this almost defeats the purpose of automation...)
ANSWER to ORIGINAL QUESTION: password was preventing Power Query from reading the Excel file. For solution see above.
Thanks anyway for participation and inspiration, Imke!

  • Is it possible to create a form that allows users to import data from an excel spreadsheet

I have not been able to start my reading on scripting or other livecycle features to be able to try to figure this out but I was wondering if anyone else had ever created a form with this feature or had any ideas of how it would be possible.  Our company currently uses and excel form that would have a variable number of rows of data for each time it is filled out and we would be replacing it with an adobe form.  I would like to know if the users, who will be using the new adobe form in adobe reader, could have the capability to imort the lines from the previous excel form into the new adobe version.

    Hi,
You can set up a data connection with an Excel spreadsheet. However for the data connection to work for users with Reader, you would need to Reader Enable the form with the LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2.5 (server component). See here for summary: http://assure.ly/etkFNU.
However if you are just trying to get the existing data into the form, you should have a look at some of Stefan Cameron's posts: http://forms.stefcameron.com/ (try a search). You can start a new form using the wizzard and select import from Excel. This will allow you to paste from your spreadsheet to a new form. This should help set up the data structure/schema, which you can then replicate in a new form. I haven't done this before, but it should be possible.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall
