Improvements for quality of screen sharing

Hi,
We have used the following values for screensharing from publisher side.
We have already tried changing values specified in previous posts,however couldnt see big difference.
These are the current values we have used,
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_PERFORMANCE:uint = 100;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_KFI:uint = 480
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_FPS:uint = 2;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_QUALITY:uint = 100;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_BANDWIDTH:uint = 192500;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_ENABLEHFSS:Boolean = false;
ssPublisher.quality = DEFAULT_SS_QUALITY;
ssPublisher.performance = DEFAULT_SS_PERFORMANCE;
ssPublisher.keyFrameInterval = DEFAULT_SS_KFI;
ssPublisher.fps = DEFAULT_SS_FPS;
ssPublisher.enableHFSS = DEFAULT_SS_ENABLEHFSS;
ssPublisher.bandwidth = DEFAULT_SS_BANDWIDTH;
Please suggest me with a solution inorder to get better screenshare quality.
Thanks.

Hi Tilak,
Please do try the following settings
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_PERFORMANCE:uint = 100;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_KFI:uint = 480
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_FPS:uint = 8;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_QUALITY:uint = 100;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_BANDWIDTH:uint = 0;
protected static const DEFAULT_SS_ENABLEHFSS:Boolean = false;
ssPublisher.quality = DEFAULT_SS_QUALITY;
ssPublisher.performance = DEFAULT_SS_PERFORMANCE;
ssPublisher.keyFrameInterval = DEFAULT_SS_KFI;
ssPublisher.fps = DEFAULT_SS_FPS;
ssPublisher.enableHFSS = DEFAULT_SS_ENABLEHFSS;
ssPublisher.bandwidth = DEFAULT_SS_BANDWIDTH;
Thanks

    No one can answer what options may be available in the future.  Until Apple announces anything, we are left in the dark just like you.

  • Asking for permission when screen sharing between MBP and Mini?

    Hi Guys,
    Like many others I have a mini connected to the TV, and use that as my media center, all music, movie, pictures, etc. is shown thrue the mini.
    After upgrading to Lion I cannot use screen sharing as before, where I just connected to the mini, and voila I had the full control. Now it seems I have to accept the screen sharing request!?!? Is there a way around this, I surely hope so, because otherwise it will defeat the purpose of my mini! I mean, I have no mouse or keyboard attached to it obviously!
    I hope there is an answer to this
    Best regards
    Viktor

    Viktorrrrr,
    It appears that Screen Sharing is a bit "buggy" in this first release of Lion.
    Having said that, I have managed to get mine working and it is possible to have screen sharing without the approval prompt - the key is that you need to connect using the same account that is already logged on at the machine you're connecting to. So, in your case, after you click "Share Screen..." on your MBP, you should enter the account name and password that matches the account currently logged on your Mac Mini.
    This should be fine if the account currently logged on your Mac Mini is allowed to do Screen Sharing (see the list of users in the "Allow access for:" section of the "Sharing--->Screen Sharing" system prefs).
    If this works for you, stop reading here!
    However, if (like me) you log on locally to your Mac Mini with a Standard account, but only allow Administrators to connect to the Mac Mini via Screen Sharing, then you have some extra work to do because, as you know, when you connect via Screen Sharing with one account in order to view the screen of another logged-on account on the Mac Mini, you get the prompt asking for permission. There does not appear to be an option to switch off this behaviour and, I suspect, this behaviour will remain due to privacy/security issues. So, if you want to avoid this prompt, you are going to have to log in using the same account. And to do this, you will need to allow this account to Screen Share.
    The quick way to enable this would be to choose the option to "Allow access for: All users" on your Mac Mini - this would then allow your account (and ALL others!) to connect via Screen Sharing. But you really don't want to enable this if you can help it. Much better, would be to create a new local group on your Mac Mini called something like "Screen Share" and populate this group with all the accounts you want to be allowed to connect via Screen Sharing.
    To create and populate a new group:-
    Go to the "Users & Groups" system pref and click the + below the list of users to bring up the "New Account" window. Where you see the pull-down menu that says "Standard", click on this and select "Group". Enter your new group name and click "Create Group". The new group will be created and you can then select the accounts you want to include in this group (ie. the accounts you want to allow to connect via Screen Sharing) in the "Membership" section - just tick the boxes of the ones you want.
    Now go back to the "Sharing-->Screen Sharing" system pref. Where it says "Allow access for:", click the "Only these users:". Now click the + below the list to bring up a window of all users. Make sure "Users & Groups" is selected in the left pane, then click on your newly-created group in the right pane and click "Select".
    Sadly, this is where the real bugs seem to be!! When I try to permission my group for access, more often than not, my selected group is not added to the list of allowed access. I have played with this for hours, clicking various options in various sequences, but have not found a pattern. Even when my selected group does get added successfully, I sometimes find access is still not granted to that group and its members!!
    I'm afraid it seems to be trial and error at the moment - I guess a fix will come eventually, but for now you just need to keep adding the group, removing it, turning Screen Sharing on then off then on again, try adding again...etc! I CAN tell you that I did eventually get my group to stick and work as intended, so it is possible...but it will take time!
    Sorry for the lengthy response. Good luck!
    C.

  • I am looking for a Meeting/ Screen Sharing Application on iPad2 using which I can provide presentation/ screen sharing to other iPad or Windows PC.

    I am looking for presentation/ screen sharing application for iPad 2. Similar to WEBEX or GoToMeeting using which I can give presentation using an iPad.

    For sharing between iPads, this might be worth a look:
    http://www.ideaflight.com/
    Cisco has a WebX application for the iPad that says it allows scheduling, hosting, and attending meetings. There is a client for GoToMeeting for iPad, but I believe that you can only attend, not host.

  • Screen Sharing Observe Quality

    I found on a few web site a handy tip to change the quality of screen sharing. The tip says that opening terminal and typing:
    defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality #
    Where # is the quality of the screen sharing: 1=black and white, 2=grey scale, 3=8 bit color, 4=16 bit color, 5 = full color
    I've tried this with ichat 5.0.3, but it doesn't seem to work. I still get full quality even if I set it to:
    defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality 1
    Any help here?
    Thanks,
    D

    Opps,
    Just spotted something
    defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality #
    This s not an iChat setting. It is not a .plist to do with iChat
    Most likely it is the setting for the Screen Sharing App. (see System Preferences > Sharing)
    The app can be invoked by going to the Go Menu in the Finder > GO to Server and starting the line with VNC:// (Instead of SMB or AFP)
    The app that runs this is "hidden" in /System/Library/CoreServices and not in the Applications folder.
    I take it this was the Hint ? (which says it is VNC connections = plain Screen Sharing).

    I just started a new job and am required to use Skype for Business.  I downloaded Skype for Business 32 bit.  My PC is 64 bit but because I already have other Office 32 bit programs, I cannot install the 64 bit version.
    Everything in Skype for Business appears to work properly, except for the fact that I cannot see someone else's screen when they've shared it with me.  When someone shares their screen with me, all that I can see is the empty white box where their desktop should be.  When I share my screen with others, they can see my desktop correctly.
    What other information is needed to help diagnose this issue?  I really need this functionality in order to do my job properly.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I was using Lync as part of the offerings found on Office 365 and I was prompted to "upgrade" to Skype for Business and so I did per the suggestion.  Lync had screen sharing, Skype for Business currently does not have screen sharing!  This is a major dissapointment.  Who is the product manager and why the premature roll-out?  This is incredebly frustrating as most all my clients leverage Lync (their own install on their servers... have not upgraded yet.. lucky for them) and screen sharing is an important part of my interaction.  It took many of my clients a long time to master Lync and therefore, it is incredebly challenging to teach them how to use an alternative tool over the phone.  I feel incridebly duped.  My clients can share with me however, I cannot share with them.  What is the current timeframe for enabling (re-enabling) this functionality?  How can I get back Lync?   Is there a beta release of the next version?  Finally, how can this be called "Skype for Business" when a core aspect of the tool to conduct "business" had been stripped away without warning?

  • Screen Sharing Disabled Per User?

    Hi, this is a repost from OSX usability forums...hopefully someone can help here:
    I caught a kid cheating this morning by utilizing Screen Sharing to see what his neighbor was answering on a test. I would like to disable Screen Sharing as it pertains to the user, but I still need to run Remote Desktop and see all machines at the admin level. Each kid has an OpenDirectory account, so would it be possible to block at that level?

    Block the Screen Sharing application. If the accounts are OD accounts, just add this to the MCX set and start enforcing an explicit deny on the Screen Sharing app. That should resolve it. The other option, assuming all systems have a unified admin account that the kids don't know, go into System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Management and choose "only these users" and add the local admin account only. That should set up a SACL for the ARD/Screen Sharing process to only allow access for the one user, not for all potential users of the machine.
    Hope this helps

  • Best Way To Set Up Screen Sharing Over The Internet

    What is the best/simplest way to set up screen sharing over the internet so I can remotely control my Mac at home from my Mac at work? My Mac at work is running 10.5.6, my Mac at home is running 10.4.11.

    simplest
    Get both Macs up to Mac OS X (Leopard). Then use Apple's MobileMe Back-to-my-Mac service.
    Or, use iChat screen sharing along with the iChat free 3rd party Chax add-on which allows selected iChat Buddies to auto-accept an iChat screen sharing request. Free AOL Instant Messaging accounts can be used as the iChat accounts.
    If you do not want to upgrade all systems to Leopard...
    Next would be using the free LogMeIn.com account, or similar service. This will work
    The above avoid needing to figure out how you get through the home routers, and provide encrypted screen sharing sessions.
    After that you need to arrange for router port forwarding. If you want secure connections, then you should arrange to port forward the SSH port 22, then use ssh tunnels for VNC based screen sharing connections. There are GUI based utilities that will help setting up SSH tunnels. Do some searches over at VersionTracker.com or MacUpdates.com

  • Auto Accept with Screen Sharing with Yosemite Messages App

    I take care of many of my family and friend's Macs and I'm really excited that screen sharing with 10.10 Yosemite through iMessage. I'm wondering if anyone know of a way to enrol their Macs into auto-accepting me to control the screen without the need for them to accept it. I know there was a way to do this back in the days of iChat.

    Hi,
    In Any Finder window use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
    Select the Library that appears and the navigate to Application Scripts/com.apple.iChat
    Double click the Auto Accept item to open in in the Script Editor (formerly AppleScript Editor)
    You will note the Text section at the top is commented out by being between (* and then the text and then *) the stars and parentheses.
    Later a single line is also commented out with a # symbol
    In iChat the section for Auto Accepting Screen Sharing used to be commentated out  (originally it was not even there)
    You might decide to comment out the other lines leaving just the bits you want.  (or Copy the AppleScript and alter the copy).
    Then you can go to Messages > Preferences > General Section and select the AppleScript as the Messages Received item.
    NOTE
    I have had issue myself with the AppleScripts as they stand  in Yosemite.
    I have tried several of those that are Included and some that I have collected from iChat and all return and error messages about timing out at present.
    Others have reported the same in various Threads here at the Apple Support Communities.
    At present there does not seem to be a work around.

  • Screen sharing image quality issue

    When I share my screen with another participant the picture/image (screen) quality is so poor that the other participant cannot read the text on his/her screen.
    Is there any way to configure the Skype to improve the quality?
    If not can we get an answer from Microsoft representative on when we can expect an improvement? The picture quality is significantly worse than other services (e.g. join dot me).
    Thank you for your responses.

    Hi kerojarun,
    I am using version 6.11.0.102 (latest) with Windows 8 on a desktop (HP) as the sharing party and Surface RT and Surface Pro on the recepient side. I shared both desktop and window with the same results. Network speed should not be an issue as video and audio quality is normal and these type of communication methods are more sensitive to a network quality (not just speed) than a static content (image of text).
    If I have to I will test with multiple computers and networks. I just expect better support from Microsoft as the quality is significantly worse than join.me in the same environment and conditions.
    If I may ask can you test in your environment and compare Skype vs join.me? You will see the image (text) quality difference for yourself.
    I really want Microsoft to improve this feature in Skype so users do not have to use another product (e.g. join.me) for content/web/application sharing.

  • Leopard Screen Sharing (VNC) Quality?

    Before Leopard I used to use Vine VNC Server for accessing my Mac over the internet. Now that Leopard has its own VNC (Screen Sharing) server built in theres no need to use it.
    Normally when I VNC'ed to my Mac over the internet using UltraVNC on Windows it would automatically select the best image compression/quality (eg only displaying 256 colors only etc) to make it much quicker over the internet.
    But the new Leopard VNC server only seems to allow full quality screen sharing, which is painfully slow over the internet (esp as my macs running at 1600x1500!), selecting anything other than Auto in UltraVNC will instantly disconnect after entering my VNC password.
    Does Leopard's VNC (Screen Sharing) support compression/image quality like Vine VNC? If so how do you enable it?
    Thanks for any help!

    Thats what I thought as well, the "Allow control" option in ARD admin prefs is off. When ARD admin is not launched VNC to the computer works fine. If ARD admin is opened I can no longer VNC to it. Its like the "Allow control" pref doesn't actually do anything & instead is forced on always

    The best software to do what you want, is not on a Mac. It is a router.. gargoyle.
    You can keep using the TC as wifi source but get a router that can can take gargoyle firmware.. the best in my testing is netgear WNDR3700. Gargoyle itself is a free download.
    http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download.php
    There are other routers and router boards it will work on.. but make sure you pick something compatible. I have used several different routers and the one above is the best so far.

  • Is it possible for multiple users to use a "generic" account simultaneously without screen sharing?

    Hey and thanks for checking out the thread.
    I am wondering if it is possible to have users use a generic account at the same time without any sort of screen sharing.
    I have set up a generic user account (for example useraccount, password 1234) for users to use in the time before I can set up a custom user name for them. However, I have run into some issues with this.
    When multiple users log on using this generic account, their applications seem to be shared on each screen. In the room with multiple Mac workstations, if someone starts working on Photoshop, Photoshop will open on every one elses screen who is logged on under that generic account.
    Is it possible for users to log on using a generic network account and have their own isolated work environment or is this sort of sharing a feature? I am new to Mac servers and am not sure.
    Thanks for reading the thread.

    That shared-account approach seems impractical for the various reasons you've identified, as well as the inevitable issue of cleaning up the detritus that'll inevitably build up in a shared account, and for the lack of accountability for activities occuring under the shared account for both auditing and security, and sharing directories would tend to introduce obscure conflicts around which-file-version-wins file updates when the same file is used in several places, and would probably be contrary to any per-user application software licensing agreements that might be involved.
    Put another way, get unique accounts created for folks, and work toward the ability to create accounts for arriving folks, and — if it's applicable here — talk to management about getting any per-user software licensing issues sorted out, whether that's having spare copies purchased and ahead or some advanced notice on accounts, or establishing group software licensing where that's available.
    AFAIK, there are tools around which can automate account creation, too.  Either generic, a tool such as Passenger, or it's certainly feasible to script the account creation sequence.
    Trying this shared-access generic-account approach just looks like it can create more work and more hassles and more effort to me...
