In Import Dialog, Destination listing is incomplete only listing Applications, Library, Systems,

I am trying as I always do, to import some photos from my SD card, and my Destination panel under Macintosh HD only shows 4 items, Applications, Library, System, and User Information.  User Information has no drop down file indicator.  Normally it would show my entire picture catalog for me to select from.  What has happened to it?

It's not a shell script, it doesn't use a parfile. It's a PL/SQL stored procedure that calls the DBMS_DATAPUMP built-in package directly. At this point, I've pretty much got it memorized and no, no one would be changing it without my knowledge or notice.
I know it's 10% of the correct size because sometimes it actually works. I have even watched it fail when I've run it manually as opposed to running it through the OEM scheduler. It's entertaining actually to watch the dumpfile grow to appox 250MB (the correct size) and then shrink to around 20MB (+/- 50 MB) or so when the process fails and finishes. So yes, I'm pretty sure it's a bug - though I haven't jumped to the conclusion that it's neccessarily an Oracle bug yet.
No I can't share - for the same reason I hesitate to open tickets, this is all happening on a closed set of systems. I can't cut and paste - everything has to go through an approved sanitation process, which is laborious and involves cutting CDs and using sneakernet, especially when Oracle support wants every log file under the sun before they want to try and assist. I can use some disgression to retype but I'm not a glutton for punishment in that regard.
So normally if I can't debug it myself - I'll resort to asking questions on forums like this, hoping to find someone who's experienced a similar error and has a work around before I put myself through the torture of opening an SR. I'll let this ride another day or so before I resort to that.
I do appreciate your suggestions, please don't let my responses make you thing otherwise.

  • Import dialog shows iPhone twice, and photo list only shows outlines

In Aperture 2.1.2 I have been able to import photos from my iPhone until just recently. Now the import dialog shows three choices of import devices/locations, Local Disk, RJH iPhone and a second RJH iPhone. If I select either iPhone the main window displays outlines of 7 images but no picture information except for the filename. If I actually try to import the pics it says 'Import completed with errors, the following files were not imported' and it lists all the filenames. One of the iPhone devices shows up in the import list EVEN WHEN THE iPHONE IS NOT CONNECTED!
I'm sure there is a plist or something that has the list of import devices bu I have not been able to find it despite extended web and support searches.
    Anyone heard of this?

OK, I have since discovered that the second iPhone device is listed only when my iPhone is plugged into a DIFFERENT USB port on my MBP. If I plug it into the same port I usually use, it is only listed one. However, both Aperture and iPhoto still see one iPhone device whether it is plugged in or not, and both show images with outlines only and won't import photos. So strange

  • Aperture 3.1: Import dialog hangs

I discovered the folloing problem: When opening the import dialog and browsing through different directories with raw files, at some point the whole dialog hangs with the "spinning wheel" and "Loading media".
When this occurs, i can continue browsing through directories, but aperture doesn't display the contents.
This is reproducable on a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro. On both systems also with fresh clean install of 10.6.4 and Aperture 3.1 only.
There are also some messages in the system log when this occurs:

    Someone else discovering such problems?
    BR,
    Mark.

Found the problem: The "hang" of the import dialog occurs if there is only ONE file in the directory!!!
I.e.: If i have a subdirectory for example 20101002 an there is exactly one raw file in it (no matter from which camera), the trouble begins. I can't cancle dialog, i can't navigate to other subdirectories, i only can quit Aperture.
If I put a second RAW file in this diretory, than there are no prblems at all. Aperture woks as desinged.
Can anyone try to reproduce this bug on his system?
I think thats a simple error in coding the import dialog ant it's connected to the bug when the last image stays selected when you press "Deselect all".
As in the latter case, if there are more than one image in the directory and i only select one and then try to cancle the import dialog, it also hangs.
So there seems to be a problem if there is only one file or only one selected file in the directory!

  • Incomplete music lists on my nano

I've noticed my lists are incomplete in my music library on my nano. For example, a particular artist name will not show up, even though all the music is there (I have to navigate to All Albums to find it). This makes it very inconvenient to find an artist quickly. Is there a fix?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.

  • LR5 Import dialog does not list any images

Lightroom 5 is not seeing that a folder of images I'm trying to import has any images in it. The folder is question has well over 5,000 jpegs (it's my iPhone image depository). While I was able to import images from this folder with no problem in LR4, LR5 is telling me that there are no images in the folder. I've double checked that all my import settings are normal and the same as LR4 and it doens't matter. No matter what I do, I cannot get LR5 to see that there are any images in this folder to import.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

"If the folder already exists in the Folder panel, select it and Choose Library > Synchronize Folder."
It doesn't exist in the Folder panel. It never has. It would mess up my workflow to have it as such. I only import from this folder.
Try (via finder) moving a few of the images in the folder to another folder that has been cataloged. Then synchronize that folder to see if the images show.
I did this and the images showed up fine, so there is nothing wrong with the image files.
Instead of invoking the Import Dialog first, drag an image from th Camera Roll folder onto the Library module or the Lr icon. That will bring up the import dialog. see if you get the same results.
Did this and it did not work.
Why this is strange is that I have no problem importing from the same folder in Lightroom 4. Something has changed here in LR5.
Here's another image of what is happening:

  • Doubled list of Develop Presets in Import dialog?

Hi all, I'm running a week-old trial copy of LR3.3 on Windows, and I seem to have a doubled set of Develop Presets in the Import dialog's 'Apply During Import' dropdown menu. However, I just get the single list in the Presets panel of the Develop module.
More specifically, in the Import dropdown menu, I get:
An alphabetical listing of all built-in presets (with no user presets), followed by another alphabetical listing of all built-in presets, this time with the user presets.
So for example, if there are 20 built-in presets and 1 user preset, my Import dialog dropdown has 41 lines.
    Any suggestions?

No, factory presets are embedded inside Lightroom and cannot be removed.
Well, actually, they can, but this is undocumented and you'll have to do it after each update.

  • Can I order a scan from PSE12 directly and open it? On other versions of Photoshop I could scan from "import", and my type of scanner was listed. All I had to do was check the proper scanner. This scanner is wireless and not listed. The only thing that is

On other previous editions of Photoshop I could order the scanner to scan using "file", then "Import" on other versions, my scanner was listed. The scanner I have now is a wireless, does that make any difference. As I see it must be linked in some way. How do I do that? I am using PSE12.

  • Import weirdness and import dialog box

I'm in the import box and I want to import just the RAW (DNG) files from a folder and not the accompanying JPEGs. First strange thing I notice is that Aperture is telling me that the JPEG files are roughly the same size as the RAw files. I thought I could sort the list by file size, knowing that the RAw files would all be bigger than the JPEGs. Wrong. Aperture is giving me bogus file sizes for the JPEGs. I went to the Finder to double check and, surely enough, the average JPEG file size is about 2.5 megabytes. Aperture has got them listed, on averages, as 15 megabyte files. So I cannot sort by file size.
So, I go down to the sort drop-down menu at the bottom of the Import box and I can only sort by File Name, File Size, or Image Date; the Custom is greyed out. How do I access the "Custom" sort feature in the Import Dialog box? And why is Aperture giving me bogus file sizes for my JPEGs?
Aperture is in sore need of a real update.

jrg_uk has the answer. The list view is often ignored, or just plain forgotten!

  • Import from Database - how to restrict the list of schemas

This may be more of a general Oracle question, but the problem is showing up in OBIEE, so...
When running an Import from Database in the repository tool, I see a lot of schemas listed in the data source pane, like APEX_030200, CTXSYS, MDSYS, OLAPSYS, PUBLIC, SYS, and SYSTEM, in addition to the schema that I've used for the connection (TRAINING). There are a lot of other schemas in the database that are NOT shown in the import dialog.
Question 1: What's special about the schemas that I've mentioned above that causes them to always show up in the import dialog?
Question 2: How can I eliminate them from the import dialog, so that I see one and only one schema - TRAINING? What privileges or roles must I grant or revoke so that when my connecion pool uses the TRAINING schema, then TRAINING is the only schema listed on the import dialog?
    Thanks!

  • Import Dialog Window Problems in 10.1.4

I am having two problems with the Dialogue Import Window in 10.1.4.
I'm only able to view media as a list and not as filmstrips in the Import Dialog window. The list view and filmstrips view icons do not appear near the bottom of the window. When I move to the top View menu and select Browser/ 'As Filmstrips' the List disappears leaving a blank window instead of filmstrips, but the 'Show clips in filmstrip view' and 'Show clips in list view' then magically appear at the bottom of the window.....to no effect.
The second issue is my inability to select portions of a clip to import.I've tried everything that I know to select an area but my only option is to import thr entire clip.
I checked the latest Ripple Training video for FCPX. The features that I described as not working are a part of FCPX in their training.

You cannot select a portion of a file that's already on your computer, only media coming from a camera or archive. Media does not have to be stored inside the library. Where it's stored is your preference. If you don't want the media stored in the library or a separate location, but prefer to leave it where it is, use the leave in place function when you import the media. The leave is place function is not available when importing from a camera or camera archive.

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

  • Creating a new folder starts up import dialog box...

When I click the plus sign on the folders panel, it takes me to the create folder dialog where I can browse to the location of the new folder.
Sometimes, after clicking OK, LR then starts up the import dialog box with a heap of images to import which I then need to cancel. I should have checked where the images were from but have not thought to do so before this post.
Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment.
As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location.

    >"Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment. "
I can't duplicate this. Whether I have highlighted an existing LR folder or not, clicking the "+" brings up the create folder dialog, I browse to a location and create a subfolder. That folder then becomes a LR folder. If I do have a current LR folder highlighted, the process (or just right clicking on the folder name and choose "Create Folder") brings up the create folder dialog with the current LR folder as the parent. I can create a new folder and it will become a LR subfolder of the highlighted one.
    >"As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location."
Actually, the new dialog that opens for me (as described above) places me in the selected folder - all I do is click the create folder button in that window and a new subfolder is made. I think the reason LR won't just create a new subfolder without going to a new dialog is that the folders panel lists the "LR folders" which are a parallel universe to the "real folders" on your drive. Perhaps the LR engineers thought that by providing you with the browser/creator dialog, they were giving you more control. Who knows.

  • Import dialog doesn't appear (OS X)

When I connect my SanDisk Firewire memory card reader to my Mac Pro, Lightroom doesn't open and the import dialog doesn't appear. This worked fine on my previous G5. iPhoto isn't opening either... nothing happens at all when I plug in the reader.

Chris, you may have already done this, but be sure to check 'Show Import Dialog when a Memory card is detected' under Import in LR PReferences, as well.

  • Vignetting In Import Dialog Box

Can anyone tell me how to fix the thumbnail vignette in the import dialog box of version 3.2? The thumbnails have a vignette until I mouse over them or select them. Is there a setting to turn this off?

Then Adobe added this 'feature' to LR 3 because it did not happen in LR 2. There must be a way to turn this off because it is simply not needed. There is a check mark to indicate what photo is selected for importing. The thumbnail should not turn darker or lighter.
Well, I think you should reconsider your rationales for this statement.  You can not like the new behaviour, and that is fine.
But as soon as you say "should not" or ""not needed" I disagree.  This is sensible UI design.  You have deliberately expressed no interest in the image to be imported; it greys out the thumbnail to subtly remove the image from your attention....
Turn the question around.  What value does a bright thumbnail give you if you have already decided to not import the image this session?
The value is that it's far easier to see which thumbnails you want to check for importing.  Sometimes, I just need a few, so I start with "uncheck all" and want to re-check those few I want to import.  I personally hate the vignetting too, and have altered my workflow to avoid it.
Well maybe the words 'should not and 'need not' are a little strong  and maybe some peopke like this new feature. Personally, when I load a  card into my reader I like to scan the import dialog thumbnails in a  grid view with smaller thumbnails. I give them a quick scan with my eyes  and choose only the ones I want to import leaving out perhaps the under  exposed files so that I dont have to bother with them in the Library  Module to delete them there. Now that they are darker when unselected in the  import area it is harder to do this. As I said maybe 'should not' and  'need not' are a little strong but Adobe should be able in this version  to turn that option on or off with a check mark the way that they have  with 'do not import suspected duplicates'.
