Inaccurate Slideshow Timing

I find that the slide and transition times correspond only roughly to the values I choose. Moreover, they seem to vary from run to run. I've generated the previews and am running on a Core 2 Quad Q6600, so I don't think lack of horsepower is the problem (at least it shouldn't be). This problem makes it difficult to synchronize music with the slideshow.
Am I alone here? Or missing something?
Thanks,
-Steve

You will get this drift happening with exports from iPhoto, I'm afraid. The best thing is to make your slideshow in iMovie or PhotoToMovie .

  • IPhoto '09 Slideshow timing off

I'm using iPhoto '09 with all the latest patches. I have 10.6.1 OS X.
I have a slideshow of 99 pictures in iPhoto using the Snapshots theme. I have set the duration for all slides to 7.1 seconds, which should yield a slideshow duration of 11 minutes and 43 seconds, give or take a second or two. However, when I export the slideshow out to a quicktime DV format, it is only 10:57... almost a minute shy of what it should be.
This is a problem because I have the last picture in the set timed out with the fading out of the music, if iPhoto would just follow my math / timing I told it to.
So I go back and set the timing for 7.2 seconds on every slide... exact same result... total run time of 10:57. I do it again and adjust the slide duration to 7.5 seconds... exact same result... 10:57. So I quit iPhoto and go back in and rebuild the slideshow again, and this time set it to 8 seconds a slide... export to quicktime DV... exact same result... 10:57, ending a minute too early and cutting of the last minute of my song.
The kicker is this... The slideshow was 100 (vs. 99 as it is now) and when I exported it to quicktime DV it came out to 12 minutes and 4 seconds long. The only thing I did was delete one photo and re-export it and it cut the slideshow down over a minute. ***???? Shouldn't it just make the slideshow 7 or so seconds shorter when I delete one photo????
I'm so ****** about this crazy crap... makes me feel like I'm using a PC instead of a Mac when this arbitrary and illogical crap happens for no good reason.
And before you say "just use the fit slideshow to music", let me tell you, it always errors out. I have three songs that I fused together into one .wav file using iMovie HD. It is 12:05 long. When I add it as the only song it iPhoto's custom playlist on the slideshow, and then enable the fit slideshow to music option, it tells me that the music I selected is too short for so many photos, and that I need at least 12:03 worth of music... even though I have 12:05 worth of music selected! How is that too short for 99 or 100 photos? That's like 7 seconds a photo, which is fairly long for each to display.
    This is microsoft dumb.

If you still have a copy of iMovie HD 6 I suggest you use that to add the music to the slideshow. Create the slideshow without music, import it into iMovie HD 6, and add your audio tracks where you can trim, fade in/out, and have precise placement.

  • How can you increase slideshow timing in photos for ipad?

I want to change the timing of slide change in slideshow, photos for ipad 2. How do I do it?

Have tried changing timing in settings to 20 sec. When showing photos through Apple TV slideshow in Ken Burns effect, transition occurs every 3 sec. Want to extend this timing.

  • Strange issue with slideshow timing...

Using the Scrapbook theme with about 40 photos... added music, and selected "10 sec" as min timing for each of the photos thru the Settings=>All Photos tab. Would expect the slideshow to run for about 400 sec, however, the preview shows the photos changing every ~4 sec, and the exported h264/720p QT file also runs only for a grand total of <2 min!
Tried trashing the .plist file, but that doesn't appear to work... Is this a known bug, and are there any workarounds?
Tried to import the .MOV into iMHD to see if I could use the slo-mo effect to increase the slide-show run-time, but that also slows down the transitions, which doesn't look as good... Any other ideas?

  • Slideshow timing changes after sending to iDVD--why?

After much work, I finally got my slide show perfectly synchronized to the lyrics of the song being used, then exported to iDVD. I made no adjustment or changes in iDVD other than choosing & customizing the opening menu theme (which is separate from & has no bearing on show). I was horrified to discover that the timing changed, throwing off the image/lyric sync, which is crucial to the "story" of the show.
If all the iLife apps are supposed to be so tightly integrated, why does this happen???

I wonder if you can have iPhoto make the QuickTime movie of your slideshow, and if it would preserve your timings, and would that stick when sending to iDVD.
This sounds like a job for QuickTime Kirk....

  • Recording Slideshow Timing Glitches

In Keynote 09, I'm trying to record a timed slideshow with a soundtrack.  Timing is perfectly set but when I play back recording the show is "stalled" gets behind on timing when it comes to animated gif images.  Short of replacing the animated images with stills, is there a way to make the recorded timing look like it does when it's being recorded?

Select the GIF and look at the run time in QuickTime inspector...
Now open the Slide inspector and set the Delay time equal to or greater than the above...
Here's an example exported as a Movie. Click the Freedom Bell title bar on the web page...

  • Slideshow Timing - Changing Individual Slide Timing

in iPhoto '11 is there any way to change the timing of an individual slide? I'm preparing a slideshow of pictures for a Thanksgiving service where the pastor wants a text slide every couple minutes with some words he wants the congregation to speak. These slides would need more time than the other picture slides. I've already created the text slides in Photoshop, saved them as JPEGS and inserted them into the right places in the slideshow.

That option is only available for some themes and not others.
    Classic
    Shatter
    Ken Burns
The others themes don't have this feature.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • .Mac slideshow timing control.

AJAX slideshow with its snazzy look, but lack of timing control made it a poor implementation. I had cracked it. Here is the procedure:
    1. Download: http://hac.95mb.com/dotMac/Arts_files/KBDIF.js
    2. Put KBDIF.js in the same folder as slideshow.html --> typically: Photos_files folder
    3. Edit slideshow.html
    3a. open it with TextEdit
    3b. search for 'slideshow.js'
    3c. insert:
    <script src="KBDIF.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    just below:
    <script src="http://www.mac.com/1/slideshow/scripts/slideshow.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    so it looks like:
    <script src="http://www.mac.com/1/slideshow/scripts/slideshow.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="KBDIF.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
That's it, you just added timing control. Keyboard inputs:
1 - 9 = number of seconds delay between slide.
    0 = 10 seconds delay
Note: When AJAX slideshow first starts up, there is a 10-15 seconds delay for the slides and thumbnails to be loaded. I can't control that, unless I hack a lot more of AJAX js.
And default delay is 5 seconds.
Demo here, click Start Slideshow button:
    http://hac.95mb.com/dotMac/Arts.html

I just uploaded new AJAX Slideshow converter to my host, and can be found here: http://hac.95mb.com/iWeb.html
This is for non .Mac server - or Publish to a Folder - method.
.Mac users will have apply the changes manually, sorry, my script magic couldn't work through iDisk (WebDAV protocol).

  • Slideshow timing to music

I have a 378 pic slideshow with 4 iTunes set in a custom playlist with random transitions and asked to time to the music.
At the 378th slide the last tune is not done, and continues on for a couple of minutes.
I've done this before with other pics and tunes with no problem.
3 of the tunes were imported from a CD, and one downloaded from my Windows machine and imported over my iHome link.
They all look OK in iTunes and show up with the right durations in the iPhoto playlist.
I can switch over to uniform slide duration and get close by trial and error but why isn't iphoto doing it?
    Thanks

In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.
Credit to user keysandfood who figured that one out.

  • "Vintage" slideshow timing?

I want my "Vintage" slideshow to move every 4 seconds but it will only let me change the default down to 5 seconds.  Is there a way around this?
    thanks
    Karen

    Karen,
I do not think you can set the time to 3 seconds. The "Vintage" theme uses very slow transitions between slides, so you will need 5 seconds at least for the slide to be visible at all. If you want to show the slides for a shorter time, pick one of the themes with fast transitions and less animation, like "Sliding panels". These you can set to shorter presentation times.

  • How to change slideshow timing

Can someone please tell me exactly how to slow down the changes in a slideshow? I've read that I need to edit the text in the slideshow.html in the Media folder but I'm afraid I don't know exactly how to find this.
    Help please.
    Thanks
    Rob

Go where you published your iWeb Site.
    Probably on the server.
    Open that folder.
    Open the Media folder.
    Open the slideshow.html file.
    Look for this line :
    initSlideshow(opener.latestImageStream, opener.latestIndex, args);
    Paste this line below.
    slideshow.photoDuration = 10000; // 10000 = 10 seconds, adjust this value to your liking.
It should look like this :
    initSlideshow(opener.latestImageStream, opener.latestIndex, args);
    slideshow.photoDuration = 10000; // 10000 = 10 seconds, adjust this value to your liking.
    Save the file.
Reload your Photo page and start the slideshow.

  • Can you make still slideshow timing to match audio length like in IDVD?

    Hello group,
I have been asked to make a slideshow with a bunch of still shots (50-60) and have some requested songs to add. In IDVD, you can choose "fit to audio" which changes all the clip lengths exactly to fit the audio clips. I cannot figure out an easy way to do this, when I add the audio clips, they only appear up to the end of the currently added photo so I can't tell visually where I am. Seems like this should be easier to do as in IDVD.
Any advice greatly appreciated, I have Imovie 8.0.5 "Imovie '09"
    John

I may be confused, but the Fit to Audio feature is in iPhoto for Slide Shows. If you wanted to make a DVD of this you could still make your slide show in iPhoto and "Share" -> "send it to iDVD", or you could export the slideshow (Export button lower right corner of slideshow window) to the media browser and that will show up when you navigate through iDVD's Media Browser.

  • Keynote - stabilising synchronised music and slides in slideshow

I have made a self-playing Keynote slideshow with a (GarageBand) music track on loop.  Although I have timed it, tried it for synchronising image and music, saved it exactly as I want it, it seems impossible to keep this synchronisation on playback.  Images may appear early or late in relation to the music, which spoils the effects I'm looking for.  Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can remedy this?  I have tried recording, with voiceover on mute, and saving as a QuickTime movie, but this may still not preserve synchronisation;  besides, the movie is jerky on dissolve and animations.  Looking forward to a resolution.  Thanks.

Gary, many thanks for your prompt reply and the advice, which I shall certainly try.  You might have thought, though, that music (timed) and slideshow (timed) starting at precisely the same time and running simultaneously would have kept up with each other.  There is no guarantee, it seems to me, that pprecisely the same timings for slides and soundtrack will prevent drift in the middle, but I do feel that your advice is definitely good.
My camera club colleagues are hugely impressed with my Keynote presentations and several have been switching from PC to Mac.  (They obviously don't know what they can do with PowerPoint).  Come on Apple, what about integrating iPhoto and Keynote?  Or introducing synchronisation?  It so happens that I have been using Apple computers since before there were Macs, and have always used Macs, and am unlikely to change now, but it would be nice to have a complete package instead of something being kept back for an upgrade to generate further Apple income.  I know it's a business, and that everybody's at it, but here's an opportunity for a USP. Apple has already had quite enough of my money!
Again, thanks.  I am assuming that this is the answer to my query.

  • Slideshows with Lightroom 4

Can I create slideshows on my Mac computer using Lightroom 4?

    trshaner wrote:
Unfortunately Photodex ProShow is Windows only compatible, but Adobe Premiere Elements 11 does support full slideshow capability on Mac platforms:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4869292
Here's my LR4 slideshow procedure, which will produce quality PDF and MP4 video output:
Lightroom 4.3 1080p Slideshow Procedure (for DSLR 2x3 aspect ratio images)
Make all tonal adjustments, etc. in the Develop module.
Add ‘Captions’ to be used on the slides in the Library module.
Export the images to ‘Specific folder’ and ‘Rename to’ ‘Custom Name – Sequence’ to retain sort order.
Use Export settings sRGB, 91 Quality, Width & Height 1539x1026, Sharpen for Screen Low. (NOTE: Images sharpen more during PDF creation and the ‘Reduced Size PDF’ processing.
Open in the Library module and select Sort: ‘File Name’ to set correct sort order.
In the Slideshow module select the ‘Widescreen’ template.
    Make any required adjustments and set Layout Guides (L, R, T, B) = 10, 10, 10, 44.
For PDFs:From Slideshow module choose 'Export PDF Slideshow' with Quality 91 and Width & Height 1559x1080.
For MP4 Videos: From Slideshow module choose 'Export Video Slideshow' with 'Video Preset' 1080p.
The purpose of all this is to prevent LR from resizing the images in the Slideshow module, which causes softening and/or artifacts to appear in the slideshow output. Both the image files and template must be setup so that 1) the placed files fit the exact pixel dimensions inside the template, and 2) the template exactly fits the output resolution selected.
To add audio you will have to create a single (1) audio file to match the length of the slideshow, which means editing of the audio files outside LR. You can also choose 'Fit To Music,' but that won't work for PDF files since they use the slideshow timing set by the Adobe Reader. The end results looks good, but very simplistic compared to Photodex' ProShow slideshow transitions and effects options.
Thank you trshaner... I will be using your Lightroom Slideshow Procedure. I have no problem with taking extra steps in order to develop something nice to share with friends and family. Although in another year or so I will go shopping again for something better and hopefully by then Adobe will have created something that works well with Mac.
