Including external swf file with preloader in main swf file

I'm creating a flash 3d website for a company. The idea is
that there is one overall swf file - this holds the navigation and
design. Once the user clicks on a button, it goes to frame 10, I
have included the following script to load a swf file

my problem is that this file is around 3mb. I created a
preloader with it, with the code

the preloader works, but instead of going to frame 2 of that
swf file, it goes to frame 2 of the overall swf that holds the
navigation. Does anyone know how to get around this so that it goes
to frame 2 in the same swf file as the preloader?

instead of _root, use this._parent (if your preloader is on
its main timeline).

Hi Guys,
Ok I'm working in Flash 8, Action Script 2;
I'm building a website, in which the 'Gallery Page' has a link to an external swf file, which is a scrolling clip of thumbnails.
What I want to do, is create each thumbnail into a button, which will then play a Movie Clip from a frame located in the Main swf file.
(So basically, each thumbnail button is a small photo, will play that photo in a large scale as a movie)
eg.
thumbnail1_btn needs to go to main swf and play movieclip1.mc, frame 1
thumbnail2_btn nends to go to main swf and play movieclip1.mc, frame 2
I'm unsure of the code for this? Or if I've built this up wrong?
If someone could help me out, that would be great!

If you haven't set _lockroot on the loaded SWF, than a simple _root call from the loaded SWF will talk to the main SWF.
IE:
on(release){
_root.gotoAndPlay(1);
If you did set the lockroot, then call the level directly, via:
on(release){
_level0.gotoAndPlay(1);
Once on the root level, you can access a movie clip as normal.
So:
on(release){
_level0.movieClip1.gotoAndPlay(1);
will call the movie clip "movieClip1" which resides on the timeline of _level0 (which is main.swf in your instance), and tell it to jump to the first frame and start playing.

Download SWFs to cell, run in main SWF

Hey there people!
We've got a tricky one for you guys, really hope you can help
us out.
We're developing a Flash Lite 2.1 application mainly for cell
phones, and to start off we're testing on a Nokia N73.
The application needs to be able to load SWFs which has been
downloaded alternatively pushed to the phone and saved locally on
the phone.
There seems to be a number of challenges:
1) How can we address a separate SWF locally from a main SWF
on a cell phone?
2) Any suggestions on how to distribute the separate SWFs to
the phone? Push of some sort? Install SIS-file that places the
separate SWFs in correct folder that main SWF can read from?
3) Is it possible to write to an XML file locally on a cell
phone?
4) The application needs to list the separate SWF-files, how
can this be done?
As I mentioned, hope you guys can help us out!

1. you can use loadMovie function to load movies localy. but
you should be using relative paths i.e. more_swfs/new.swf
2. yes, you can make update SIS files with new/updated
content, and install in same folder as the previous install. for
more on update SIS, read the makesis help in the Nokia S60 SDK
3. yes, but using a third-party .exe helper program. but i
would suggest using shareobeject to save your data. SO can save
native AS objects string/number/xml
4. you can do it in two ways, 1) put a list.txt in your sis,
and update sis files with updated list.txt 2) you can create a
sequential loading loop, ie loadVariables("content_" add counter
add ".txt") and check if the content_n.txt loads its data, if
there's no data in last loaded text file, it means that file
doesn't exist. so you should not loadmovie content_n.swf and break
the loop
note: this will show user an error message "unable to load
data", and use can abort/exit the app at this point... so, i will
recomend the 1st one ;)

Is it possible to add a diagram, picture, or table to a SP file with link to another SP file?
I know this is possible in, say, Word. For example, I can add a diagram and check a box to include a link to the source file - so that when the diagram in the source file updates, the diagram in my document also updates.
This is also my goal in SP - instead of simply including a link to a document elsewhere in SP (or on the same site in SP), I would ideally like to display a diagram, picture, or table and include (behind the scenes if possible) to the source SP file
so that, when the diagram/table in the source SP file updates, my SP file also updates accordingly.
For example:

I would ideally like:

Read Document in FileUtilities cannot search a file with french character in the file name

Hi,
I am trying to search a file with french character in the file name like 'captures écran.doc' in my unix server directory, and Write the file somewhere, say in a list of documents or, write on file system to another directory.
I am using to Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation, but it cannot read the file due to french character in its name. Although it can find any other file name without these french characters.
Tried renaming but that also cannot find the file with french character name.
Please provide any idea to solve it using LC operation.

Thanks for the post, but I have already found a solution to it a month ago. Sorry for not posting the solution.
You just have to set the '-Djava.property.file.encoding=ISO8859-1' into JVM argument of your server startup, and bounce the server back to pick the new JVM arg set. And now the service Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation will read all french characters.
ISO8859-1refers to "Latin alphabet no. 1," consisting of 191 characters from the Latin script. This character-encoding scheme is used throughout The Americas,Western Europe, Oceania, and much of Africa. It is also commonly used in most standard romanizations of East-Asian languages.

Serving up files with Russian chars in the file name

Anyone know how to get CF 8 to serve up CFM files with
Russian characters in the file name? I can get IIS to server up
.html files but .cfm files turn in to ?????????.cfm files.
For example, this:
новостииобновления.cfm
becomes this ??????????????.cfm and throws a CF error (File Not
Found) when clicking on the link. The strange thing is I can see
the Russian characters in the status bar when I mouse over the link
but CF can't handle it. And IIS will serve up the file and replace
all the chars with their URL entity equivalent.
Any suggestions on how to fix?

How to use a PDF file with links to other PDF files that have been transferred to the same folder

Are you using a mouse, or a trackpad on a laptop? Either way, your cursor is usually an arrow, right? And presumably it's working/moving MOST of the time, otherwise you wouldn't be able to do anything?
For example, can you move the cursor arrow to the "Annotate" tool to click on it and go into Annotate mode? If so, can you click on the text tool? If so, does the cursor change to a crosshairs? At what point can you NOT move the cursor around the screen?

Remove / unload external swf file(s) from the main flash file and load a new swf file and garbage collection from memory.

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?

Thank you for the helpful advice. I made the changes as you suggested but I am receiving a #1009 error message even though my site is working the way I wan it to work. I would still like to fix the errors so that my site runs and error free. This is the error I am receiving:
"TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."
I'm sure this is not the best method to unload loaders and I am guessing this is why I am receiving the following error message.

I also tried creating a function to unload the loader but received the same error message and my portfolio swf was not showing at all.

SVG file with links to other SVG files - links don't work

I have an SVG image with a few dozen linked images, all of which are pointing to external SVG files. If I open the main SVG in a web browser, it loads up correctly with all the linked images, so I know the file is correct.
When I open it in illustrator, I get the following message:
Could not find a plug-in to read the linked file "test.svg". Choose Replace to select another file or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.
If I choose Ignore, the file loads up but the linked SVGs are removed. Obviously Illustrator doesn't really need a plugin to read an SVG file, because it loads the main SVG with no problem.
Meanwhile I have other links pointing to PNG files which all work fine. In fact I can open the main SVG, find one of the PNG links, and click Re-Link, and then link them to an SVG, and this will work! Although it doesn't work as desired, instead of making a link, it seems to import the external SVG's layers, which is not desired.
I'm pretty sure it's just one of those things that will never work, but does anyone have any thoughts on making it work?
FYI here's some source code from the main SVG, where it links to the external SVG:

and like I said, both links work fine when the main SVG is opened in a web browser.

I think the problem is that illustrator just isn't capable of linking to an SVG from within an SVG. Try it yourself with two very simple files, I just did.
create a "main.svg" with just a line
create a "link.svg" with another line
save a copy of link.svg as link.png (using export to web)
-- now you have three files, put them all in the same directory just to make life easy
in main.svg, file >> place >> link.png
-- illustrator will place the PNG as a linked image
in main.svg, file >> place >> link.svg
-- illustrator will import layers from the SVG, it will not place it as a linked image
If you save this file and open in a text editor, you'll see your image link to the PNG file, and you'll see two <line/> elements, one that you had in main.svg and another that you had in link.svg (it has now been imported into main.svg)
In the text editor, try duplicating the image link, and change the href of your duplicate to link.svg, then save.
Re-open main.svg in illustrator. It should give you the error message about the linked svg, the same one I saw originally.
I did all this using CS6. Then I tried opening the final main.svg file in CC and saw the same error message.

I've developed a J2EE application client using Eclipse 3.3.1.1, now I want to export my project as a executable jar file but there is a lot of external jar files so when I put their name in Class-Path variable of project's Manifest, I see "Too long" error because there are too many external jar files.
How I can export required jar files with executable file of my project?
In my idea, the process of application client exporting is so foolishly and silly! why there isn't any standard and easy-to-use utility for this reason?!

Opening a file (hst), executes the main jar file to open the hst file HELP

Greetings,
I have created a file with an extension *.hst, so in my Win XP computer, when I double click a .hst file, it should be opened in my program, which is a jar file, so during the installation I associate my program to this .hst file extension.
After all this, when I double click this .hst file, it shows an error message that the jar file is not a vaid win32 application. I donot wish to convert my file to an .exe. Help ?

How did you specify command line for your .hst file?
It should be something like "java -classpath
[youfile.jar] [youclass] %1"I have not specified command line for the .hst file.
The .hst file is just a file that is created when my main program (jar file) saves its files., later If I double click this saved hst file, it should be opened in the main jar program.
For the double click to work, I have created a constructor
public hst(String hstfile)

Powershell: How do I upload files with metadata from a manifest file?

I am using the script from this blog to try to upload files into SharePoint, using a manifest file to specify the metadata associated with each file. Right now, the script works, but is not populating
the metadata from the manifest (xml) file. When I write the $metadataManifest variable out to the console, I get the contents of my xml file, so the code is reading the file when it should. However when it gets to the line in bold ($metadataManifest.Columns.Column),
it does not go into that block...it just skips on to checkin the file. Again the $metadataManifest variable shows all the content in my xml manifest file. Here is what the script looks like...

Name should not be a problem.. I will probably post you the entire code (I modified it to meet your goals for having multiple column xml nodes as well)

a. In powershell all my changes will have ## prefixed comments
b. in XML I have changed one column name to "Name" to replicate your case and also added a parent node for making the xml well formed.

How to mass-reindex files with same name but different file extensions

(reposting cos I'm confused about if I posted in the proper place before. Please delete if it is a repost.)
So I'm on a remote workflow. I pick all the raw data and convert it in two quality standards, one on 'high' with full specifications and one on 'low' so I can send 2gb instead of 80gb of files through the internet for me to work remotely on, and to speed up the overall work rhythm because files are lighter. All I need to do is to work at my home with the low quality files, send it back to the client's computer after finished, re-index all files in their high resolution twins and we are good to go to finish the product with highest quality possible. But both high and low quality files need to be the same extension, that I picked .mp4 for it is the standard for pretty much anything.
The point is, if I want to go full mobile, I only have an old HP Pavillion notebook and I really need to work with a video codec that goes very easy on it. I can only think about some 16:9 DV format. But the point is, this format generates a different file extension than my .mp4 standard, and Premiere, to my knowledge, really can't reindex files using only the file name while ignoring the file extension. It really should. And I really need to know how.
We also need to consider Premiere versions that allow themselves to be installed at x32 processors. My desktop is x64 and I really have no problem to work on these standards, the problem is, in my notebook I really can't.
So, halp?

i want to say it was added in cs7, which requires subscription, so in that case might as well be using latest version 8. if you had to use an older version like cs5, you could still use h264 or low bitrate dnxhd/prores codecs inside a quicktime .mov file. that would allow you to have same file ext on both versions of files.

How to handle flat file with variable delimiters in the file sender adapter

Hi friends,
I have some flat files in the ftp server and hope to poll them into XI, but before processing in XI, I hope to do some content conversion in the file sender adapter, according to the general solution, I just need to specify the field names, field seperator, end seperator, etc. But the questions is:
The fileds in the test data may have different amount of delimiters (,), for example:
ORD01,,,Z4XS,6100001746,,,,,2,1
OBJ01,,,,,,,,,,4,3
Some fileds only have 1 ',' as the delimiter, but some of them have multiple ','.
How can I handle it in the content conversion?

Creating a spool file with date/time appended to file name

In Oracle Sql*Plus, I want to spool out a file, with the date-time stamp as part of the file name. Any idea how to do this?
Here's what I have right now:
