Incoming mail error in window XP

Hi,
I have an issue in outlook 2007 or 2010 in windows XP machines.
Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'
We are getting the error message given above while downloading emails through POP3 port:995 (Encryption type SSL) in Windows XP professional(OS) with Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010. For you information we are able to send emails successfully through all ports 587/465(encryption type SSL/TLS) in Windows XP professional(OS) with Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010.
If we use windows7 machine with same settings of POP3 and SMTP, it is working perfectly.
we are facing this issue after disabling SSLv3 in mail server from vulnerability. It seems to be
the older operating systems do not support TLSv1 since SSLv3 is disabled.
Please help me on this.
Thanks,
Uday

Hi,
Contact the ISP if they provide an alternative Port that you can try(Such as 110).
We can create a new profile to setup the account, go to Control Panel -> Search for "Mail" and open it -> Show Profiles -> Add.
For your reference:

Currently I can't confirm if Windows XP supports TLSv1, please make sure your have applied all the Updates for Windows XP. Anyway, updating Windows to a later version is suggested.

  • Error in setting icloud mail on iMac - 'incoming mail server'

I created a new mail account in icloud and cannot edit this account in Mail Preferences on my iMac.  Everytime I try to save my changes i get the following error:
"The incoming mail server filed cannot be empty."
Of course the field is automatically filled in and greyed out so it is not changable.
I have tried various fixes, deleting, setting up again, setting up the iCloud and Mail/etc. in System Preferences...

    Hi Suebadu,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when an email account, such as your Gmail accounts, are not working as you would expect. In this situation I would recommend reading over and working through the attached article. The Connection Doctor may provide some further information as to what is causing the errors.

  • Getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail and cannot recieve or send mail to or from iCloud account apart from Apple emails!! Please help!

Since approx 7am GMT I've been getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail, worse though, since about 12 noon I cannot recieve or send mail to or from my iCloud account apart from I've been getting  emails from Apple (ie I've just received a welcome one from Apple Support Communities...)!! I've had this account for years, never had a problem - it can't be the OSX Mail server because the problem is the same when I log directly into iCloud. I've tried sending emails from my Hotmail account to my iCloud account (a .mac) and just get undeliverable messages back. I'm really in the s**t now at work. : (  I just set up a Smart TV yesterday with a wireless dongle - that's the only thing I've done out of the ordinary. I've spoken to Sky who are my ISP and they say all's fine with them (although the router kept kicking my off the internet this morning which was strange...). Router seems fine now though.  I'm really hoping someone here can help!!
    Many thanks!!

Do you think once Apple sort this out I'll get my missing emails back?

  • Most of the time Thunderbird only opens incoming mail with a double click in a new window which I find infuriating so is there a workaround or a fix for this?

When Thunderbird starts, it opens incoming mail into the lower panel with a single click. But after an hour or two this no longer works and i have to double click to open the message which goes into a new window.

sounds like a bad add-on to me. Restart holding the shift key and see if the issue arises again.

Thanks for your response, Matt. I have now run for a fortnight without having to double click to see a new message. All add-ons are disabled and the trick will be to eliminate them one by one till I find the culprit.

  • I would like to disable the small window that has started coming in with incoming Mail

Hi,  I would like to disable a small window that has started arriving whwn I get incoming mail.  That is, when I open the message, it displays on the right screen, but also there is a small page/window that appears with the message to the left.  Thanks for any suggestions.  Using the new Mavericks 10.9 MBP.

The small window sounds like a Notification. You can turn it off with:
System preferences > Notifications > Mail. Select none.
I'm not sure what you mean about the small page/window thing. Maybe you can take a screenshot of the mail window and post it here. Check out the options in Mail > View

  • I can't receive my incoming mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?

I can't receive my incoming mail in Mac Mail. ESP is yahoo.  Error msg says unable to connect with POP server.  Any solution?  I am able to get my incoming messages via yahoo website but not through the Mail app.

Try this, if it is not the correct department, ask them for the number or to be transfered..
    Call 1-800-318-0612 for Login Help
Also on most autmated systems, if you hit 00000, or ##### you can sometimes get thru to a person.
Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have  a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC,  cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.
    All the best

You could of course use Safari your default browser as a quick method of accessing gmail until you figure out the Firefox problem. (More than one browser may be used on a Mac or other computer).
Is this the only site you have problems with ? and does Safari work ok ?
Often this problem requires the page to be reloaded
    * try pressing the shift key as you reload the page
Another problem is sometimes the cookies for that site need clearing

  • Mail on OSX 10.7.5  has incoming mail server field grayed out

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

  • Persistant E-mail Errors

I use Outlook 2003 on a Windows 7 platform and currently have 4 e-mail accounts configured. Two of these are by default BT account and the BT account I prefer to use. They are first and second in the send receive order of things.
Both, and only the BT accounts frequently produce an error when i access my e-mail or Outlook does periodically.
Task 'BT Internet Master - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted.  If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
It is more of a nuisance than anything else as I usually just cancel this and press send/receive and it then works as it should. But it is starting to grate keep having to do this.
I've extended the server time outs to 1 min 30 on the More settings/Advanced tab. It makes no odds. Other accounts with other providers work fine.
Any idea's what the cause is and how to fix it.

As is your post. Are you always so self opinionated and smug? If you don’t know the answer why post?
    /shrug/
It confirms, for your benefit, that's it's also happening for others, so is unlikely to be something particular to your account/s or your setup.
Is there anyone out there who can actually contribute something positive here that doesn't just increase their post count? May be an “Expert” who does actually have the know how to back up such a title. It doesn't actually help me or anyone else to know that you have software that retries automatically. As an "Expert" you of course know Outlook can be set to send and receive automatically at whatever inteval you choose. As an expert you would have read that's what I'm using from my original post, you are an expert aren't you?
Why should I know that ?  I've never used Outlook, but if you say it can retry automatically then I believe you, and I'd suggest that you configure it to do so, instead of the manual cancelling and pressing send/recieve that you said you're doing in your initial post.
Whether this is of consequence is a matter for an individual, not some anonymous “expert” on the internet.
I said only that it's inconsequential for me...
It’s very inconvenient to say the least when waiting for validation messages from various providers. The fact this persistently happens means it isn't working properly. It happens most times I send/receive. It can delay messages considerably.
You said initially that you "usually just cancel this and press send/receive and it then works as it should", in which case an automatic retry would probably work and, while not resolving the problem completely could make it as inconsequential for you as it is for me.
Now you're saying that it fails most of the time.
    Which is it ?
“Contact your ISP.” I’ve done so via this board. Isn't the point of these forums to find solutions to issues?
One consequence is I  form a poor view of BT services and their provision for resolving issues. That’s
probably another reason for going elsewhere when my contract is up.
So if there is anyone who knows the solutuion to this issue, please post it here.
What do you have configured as your outgoing & incoming mail servers - mail.btinternet.com or something else ?
You could try some of the alternative Yahoo! servers - most are usable by BTY customers at present. Some that I've seen mentioned are:
    pop.mail.yahoo.com for incoming
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com for outgoing
or perhaps try the .co.uk variants instead of .com
These may support, or even require, different ports and SSL - I'm not sure.
Or you could try IMAP - the settings required are:
    Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL)
    Username: full email address
    Password: your BTY password

No not a virus since there are none that currently affect or infect OS X with the exception of MS Office macro viruses which affect Office documents only on a Mac. When the first OS X virus is identified, it will be all over the news wires and the internet in short order.
What has happened in this situation is a spammer as spoofed your email address using it to appear as the sending email address for a bulk spam mailing or mailings. For most email accounts, there is nothing preventing someone from entering any email address in the email address field for the account preferences to appear as the sending email address. If I know your email address, I can enter your address in the email address field for my account preferences and when sending messages from my email account, it will appear as being sent by your email address when received.
Many spammers use what is called a "dictionary" attack that guesses at email addresses for a particular domain and since many of the email address guesses are not valid email addresses with the targeted domain, the domain's incoming mail server sends a bounced back error message to the sender's email address for the sent messages indicating the email addresses are not valid and since the spammer spoofed your email address to appear as the sending email address for the bulk spam mailing, you receive the bounced back error messages.
There isn't much if anything you can do about this. The same has happened to me and to many others.
Or a Windows user with your email address in their address book has been infected with a virus. Such a virus sends a message to every email address in the infected user's address book (usually with an infected file attached) and randomly pulls an email address from the address book to appear as the sending email address for the mailing. This occurs without the infected user's knowledge.
