InCopy SC5 and InDesign CS4 compatibility

Hello,
I’m on an older Mac G5, 10.4.11 and I am running CS4. The editor I work with is on a new iMac, 10.6.3 Intel Core I3 with InCopy CS5.
I’ve set-up my InDesign assignments for the editor to edit in InCopy.  My only options when creating the assignments were to save as CS3 or CS4. I’ve saved the assignments in CS4. The editor in InCopy isn’t able to see the layout view on some of the assignments/stories and also isn’t able to make any changes in any of the different views.
When she tries to “check out” the file she is prompted with this message, “Unable to lock the following files:Workshop:PRODUCTION:INCOPY-INDESIGN EXHANCE:2010 Magazines-InCopy:HE10 Fall-InCopy:Celebrating 25years-Hiring .icml.”
The InCopy files are located on a server we both can access. I’ve made sure that her username is correct when I assigned the files.
My questions are could this be a server issue because the InCopy assignments are saved on a server and there is a problem with her username or password or could this be a compatibility issue between InDesign CS4 and InCopyCS5?
Please help,
spoimme

The main problem is that you're on CS4 and the other person is on CS5. These applications were not meant to be used that way.
You'll need a new computer to upgrade to CS5 for this work successfully (CS5 is Intel only). But I would also suggest that the editor run the CS5 7.0.2 patch which was released this morning and does address some issues that might be at work here.
Even it does, you need to be aware that because of text engine changes you will not likely be able to get a true indication of copy fit from one person to the other.

Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't  reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here.  The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.
    Sincerely yours.

  • InCopy6, InCopy CC, and InDesign

We are a small business with a tiny IT department. We were all happily using InCopy 6 and InDesign 6 until we added two new employees. By then, version 6 was no longer available, so one employee was given InCopy CC and one was given InDesign CC. IT then told us we had to work with what we have. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can do this? Help!

I don’t know who told you it wasn’t but CS6 is still available directly from Adobe.

  • InCopy CS5 with InDesign CS4

    Folks,
A customer of ours have a fwe licences of InDesign CS4, and are looking to put InCopy on a few more desks. They're a charity, so it'll be EDU licences, and they really don't want to have to upgrade their existing CS4 to CS5.
Is there likely to be any issue in them mixing-and-matching like this? Clearly, InCopy CS5 is going to work quite happily with InDesign CS4 files, but what about if those files then get passed back?
I'm presuming that I'm going to find it very hard work to find any InCopy CS4 licences still in the distie channel - it's been enough of a ball-ache just getting pricing...
    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian.

Don't even think about doing it. At the very least text will reflow differently from InCopy to InDesign and from InDesign to InCopy.
    Amazon has CS4 upgrades http://amzn.to/9CpaX9
for $99 and full versions  http://amzn.to/9L8mgt
    for about $280.
Don't know how long they'll last.

  • InCopy CS6 and InDesign CS6 workflow

Hi there, I just started a 3 day per week job at an architecture firm. They have about 35 staff, and use Word to format some pretty hefty reports. They are in one column, rather ugly and doesn’t reflect at all the professionalism of the firm.
I’m looking at trying to integrate the workflow, so that they can maybe use InCopy and InDesign together, effectively replacing Word for report use. I’m only in 3 days so it’s impossible for me to use a Word > InDesign workflow with the amount of changes (mostly last minute and to tight deadlines). It just takes too long. The architects and historians need to be able to write these reports themselves, with my skills coming in when it's the final format ready to send to the client.
We have licences for about 5 copies of InDesign CS5 at the moment, and 35 licenses for Word, so we’re looking at the costings and if the InCopy to InDesign workflow would work well for much of the communication here. The report writers use hundreds of images/diagrams in each document, and all these have captions, so I guess it’s important to use an inline compatible design where the users can add images in InCopy and these are brought over to InDesign without too much fiddling around at the end.
The aim is to have the report writers use a collaborative system, but using corporate open type fonts that display well on screen. We are using Trade Gothic, and it doesn't represent on screen very well at all. The report writers hate using it, especially as their zoom size in Word is normally around 90%.. The other problem is the lack of layout optiions with Word. The reports could save hundreds of pages just by using a 2 column system which can save rivers of blank white space within text.
Also we need the ability for the writers to be able to add images and resize/rotate landscape portait format etc.
I’ve downloaded a trial version of InDesign CS6 and InCopy CS6 so am just checking things out and testing it at the moment.

Using Dropbox for InCopy/InDesign workflows works really well. You keep all your projects in Dropbox as though it was a networked, local server.
I will be doing an hour-long session at PePcon (the Print + ePublishing Conference) on "The state of the state" of open source or low cost editorial workflows, covering InCopy, Word, GoogleDocs, and InDesign plug-ins. Really great conference to go to if you're using InDesign for publishing. (note: I'm a co-host, too.)

  • Lexmark C743 and Indesign CS4 Problem

Does anyone know why Indesign CS4 will only print to my Lexmark C734dn (a postscript 3 emulation printer) with the settings that are set via the printers own web page but not with the settings set in the InDesign print dialogue? Specifically I want to duplex print direct from InDesign. At present it seems one can only do this by exporting to a pdf and using Acrobat (where the options both appear and work).
    Many thanks for any help.
    James

Since InDesign is an Adobe product you might want to contact them.
Or, contact Lexmark about duplex printing with ID.

  • Creative Suite CS3 and InDesign CS4 Issues

    Hi,
I'm hoping this is the right place to post. I installed parts of Creative Suite CS3 on my system (just the basics, PS, ID, Illustrator, etc.).
Later on I just got Photoshop CS4 and Installed that.
Now, months later, I want to instally the rest of CS 3 on my system, yet half way through Disk 1, it ejects the disk and asks me to install the InDesign CS4 disk. I don't have InDesign CS4! I did install the trial version but then uninstalled it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    A,
Uninstall anything CS4 (use Adobe's uninstaller; do not just drag to trash). Install your CS3 components; then install Photoshop CS4 again. It would seem there is either some dependence upon certain components shared by both versions; or maybe it's the way some data is transfered behind the scenes from one version to the other.
Remember to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior to fix any permissions, disk or directory issues that sometimes crop up.
On a slightly different note, on my well-maintained system, I had the Master Collection CS3 on my Mac; then installed the Master Collection CS4. When I recently decided to uninstall most of CS3 (per instructions), I found that for a few CS4 apps, I had to enter my password the first time I launched them. But Photoshop would tell me some scripts were missing, and the solution was to uninstall Photoshop CS4 and reinstall it.
    Go figure!

  • InCopy CS4 and InDesign CS4 cannot open file at the same time!

I have 2 editors that make changes in my indd file. The one editor is able to open the file concurrently with myself (i'm in indesign) just fine. But when the other editor wants to open the file....I cannot open the indd file and vice versa. We are PC based.
    shane

Yes, we are all working on the same server.
And Yes on the Editor A / scenario 1  (Designer opens file and Editor A opens file concurrently). works fine.
Editor A closes out of Incopy and so does Designer. Editor B opens the file and Designer tries to open the indd file and now the designer gets the warning: Cannot open document. You may not have permission or the document may be open already. This is the same error if the Designer opens the file first and Editor B tries to open it while the designer has it open.
Editor A and B are able to have the file open at the same time no problem.
Also this happens to all indd files that Editor B tries to open. So it is not linked to a problem with the file.
one other note: on the server just above the indd file...when Editor B has the indd open in InCopy... a 'temporary' Indesign Lock File appears.

  • Configuration to run PS and Indesign CS4 Effectively

    Hello Adobe Users,
I need some feedback on a configuration that will allow for effective use of Adobe Photoshop CS4 and IndesignCS4 at the same time.  The users currently uses a Dell Optiplex 745 PC with 3 Gig of Ram, with a ATI Radeo X1300 series graphics card that has 256M on it and support OpenGL2.0 and Shader Model 3.0 in at least some capacity.
When creating documents in InDesign and using Photoshop for editing, the system is dog slow.
This is a 2 GHz + Pentium processor and no other applications are running.
I can bump her to 4 Gb but don't see that making a huge difference.
I'm looking for suggestions?  Replace with workstation level machine with XP64 and 16Gb of Memory?
Can you give me some examples of an effective Windows User platform that you are working with that works well with the two products running together?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Acrobat 9 and indesign CS4

I have been using layers in acrobat 9 pro to do some hide/show layers with javascript. The problem i ran into is that if i needed to update the pdf, i would loose the layers i had created in the pdf and/or the javascript. I could preserve the javascript by using 'replace' pages in acrobat but the layers would be lost.
I then decided to get indesign where i could create layers and then export them to the pdf, so every time i needed to redo the pdf, I didn't have to recreate the layers.
    PROBLEM
If i create interactive buttons in indesign and then export them to a pdf, the pdf created is fine including interaction buttosn. However if i try to then update the original document by using 'replace' pages (this lets me keep the javascript), the buttons all disappear.
Below is the pdf from indesign which functions correctly with the buttons.
Below is the original pdf after i have imported the above using 'replace' pages. The buttons are still there and the mouse over works, but the images have disappeared including the prev/next arrows.
What gives adobe. I have checked and double checked all settings for the export including layers, hyperlinks, objects, embed, you name it but no joy.
Thanks to anyone with an answer.

    This thread can be closed.
I had inadvertently tried to replace pages from an indesign created pdf into a non indesign created pdf and this created the problem.
Once i create the pdf from indesign and then add the javascript to the exported interactions in acrobat, i can replace pages with no problem once i continue to create them with indesign which exports the layers. This way my layers and javascript all stay intact and i can happily keep recreating the pdf without lots of work on the backend.
What acrobat does do is create a separate layer for the interactive buttons in the newly replaced document which i can then just merge into the page. which forms my background.
I hope this helps someone else.

  • MacOS 10.9 and InDesign CS4

After installing MacOS 10.9 I got the error message 150:30 when trying to open InDesign. The suggested solutions like deleting the Folder FlexNet Publisher (which doesn't exist on my iMac) or reparing the permissions didn't work. Is there any other help?

  • OS Maverick for Mac and Adobe CS4 compatibility and problem fixes

Is Adobe CS4 Creative Suite which includes Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Bridge, etc.
compatible with OS Maverick upgrade for Mac?  I want to upgrade my Mac Book Pro.

It's not per se 100% compatible, but many people run it still. The biggest hurdle will be re-configuring your OSX so legacy apps don't bump into permission issues with user folders such as Library. Also it seems to be impossible to produce PDFs under certain conditions and CS4 apps don't recognize most modern printers.

  • Logitech Trackball and photoshop CS4 compatibility

Hi! Please advise on this..  A logitech trackball is showing Delayed response while working in Photosshop CS4. Except the delayed response, it also does not allow double click or context sensitive help.   If We switch to any other program instead of Photoshop, it works fine.
When switched back to Photohsop, same delayed response.
The trackball works fine even in Adobe Premiere Pro.
    Please suggest.

Update the setpoint software. Update mouse drivers. That don't work buy a regular USB mouse.
Logitech setpoint did not play well with CS4 on my vista ultimate 64 bit system so I went out and bought a USB plain jane mouse and I have no mouse lag.

  • Hyperlinks and InDesign CS4

I have created a document in ID and created hyperlinks for several items featured in the document. Everything works fine except I want the hyperlinks to open in a new window.
In my example, the created pdf document is being emailed to my database. When my customer opens the email and clicks on the PDF, it opens as a pdf document but in a browser window. Now when they click an item in the document, it opens up to my website, but opens in the same window so they only way they can go back and view the pdf doc is to "go back". I want the pdf window left open and each time they click an item, a new browser window opens.
I should also mention that the exported PDF document works perfectly. The pdf doc opens in Adobe Acrobat and the hyperlink opens in a browser window, exactly as I want. The issue is when I insert this pdf document into a "newsletter" to go to my customers, it is inserted into a Browser window rather than opening in Acrobat. Sorry for the lengthy explanation and I hope it makes sense.
Here's the results of what my customers sees after they open my Newsletter: http://www.heirloomlinens.com/docs/flyer%20front%20page.pdf  The links to my website are all there but they don't open in a new window.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Bob

Problem solved. Saved the pdf ias a jpg. Inserted the jpg into the news;etter and used an image map to create the links back to my website. All good now.
