Indesign save issue

I just signed up for icoud adobe suite
it will not allow me to save new or old files
is there a setting or something i need to change?

More info would be helpful.
OS version? ID version?
Sounds like a permissions problem.
If on a Mac, open Disk Utility and repair permissions. Set read and write permissions on your external drive.

  • Indesign Save and Save As Greyed out!!!!!

Why oh why is this still happening - come on Adobe sort this out.
Lost time and Revenue due to InDesign suddenly greying out Save and Save As, which means the only way you can save the document is by exporting as an IDML which then causes more problems with broken links etc. Surely Adobe know about this issue, being as though I have read many forums about this.
The whole Creative Cloud concept is great, but seriously flawed, had issues where I've had notifications of the same updates I have already installed for two weeks after installing them, applications hanging on startup, Creative Cloud app not updating due to errors which quits creative cloud and then you have to start it again in order to start the update process, which invariably does not work, then have to download the latest version from the website.
Too many issues keep cropping up with this suite of software, even though the individual software packages are great when they work!!
This needs investigating and sorting out sharpish!!

Moving this discussion to the InDesign forum.

  • Indesign CS4 - Issues with .PDF and .ps

I have just done a clean install of my system (MacBook pro) with Snow Leopard and have now installed Adobe Creative Suite 4. I am trying to output a PDF and a .ps file for a document I have created that contains spreads.
    InDesign print PDF
There are three ways to print a PDF, as attached Print PDF 1,2,3:
Image Print PDF_1: The 'Save as PDF' produces a pdf that can't be opened and gives an error message that it's not a supported file type.
Image Print PDF_2: The 'File > Export' option works and the spreads appear to be fine
Image Print PDF_3: When I try and print to a PDF using the 'Printer: Adobe PDF 8.0'  printer the print dialog box allows me to choose the option however when the job spools it just disappears - it doesnt ask me where to save the PDF and the PDF never comes to fruition. I have read on forums this is a known issue with Snow Leopard.
What is the best way to create a PDF in CS4?
    InDesign print .PS file
When I go to print a postscript file I get no page preview or access to setup options to change paper size etc. Even if I select  'spreads', after I have run it through distiller it seems to have ignored the spreads, or else has not adjusted the page setup appropriately, and just an A4 page comes out.
    (See image Print Postscript_1, 1A).
Is there another way to create a .ps file?
    Any help would be appreciated!

With Snow Leopard, the Printing of PDFs has changed. Try using the highlighted option

  • OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Photoshop CS5 Windows file server save issue

After Lion to Mountain Lion upgrade.
Cannot save or save as to Windows server. Due to "program error." Adobe Photoshop CS5. Can save as fine to local drive. Can also drag and drop in the Finder to this server.
This is Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 (current).
Once the error "could not save filename due to a program error" occurs, the file disappears from the Windows server.
I think it has something to due with the SMB connection.
All other CS5 apps (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) "save" and "save as" fine. It is also fine performing the same procedure using Preview.

We're in 2015 and this is still an issue with the latest updates from Apple. Any one confirm that the save to network storage problem in Photoshop is gone with the newest version of Photoshop Creative Cloud?
Here's what's happening in our shop as of May, 2015 with both AFP and SMB server connections:
We are using Photoshop CS 5.1, Version 12.1 x64. I believe this is the most up to date version of our CS5.1 software.
We are on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3.
When connected to the server via afp (in server log it says "AFP client")
Photoshop gives this error on a save after some changes are made to the file: "Could not save "file name" because write access was not granted." Then, as soon as you hit ok, the file is deleted from the server and is gone within a minute or so. If no change was made to the file, save works fine.
If you use "save as" and keep the same file name, it will usually fail with the same error as above. If you use save as and type in a new file name, all works fine.
If logged in via SMB (in the server log is says "CIFS client")
When you try to save, the error changes to "could not save "file name" because the file was not found." And then as soon as you hit OK on the error, the file is deleted from the server. Using Save As and inputing a different file name presented a new problem, it always says "could not save as "file name" because the file was not found." (in this case SMB seems to be worse than an AFP connection).
This is very frustrating and has been going on in the forums for over 3 years. Shared network environments are commonplace today. It seems to be centered around photoshop and OSX. All other software we use has been working fine with the server / network attached storage.
    Thanks for any guidance. Sean

  • Indesign Link Issues after Suitcase Fusion 3 update

    Hi Guys,

  • Adobe CS3 Indesign SLOWWWW issues

I realize this isn't an adobe discussion, however, it appears that after performing the last security update...which i'd put off for minute...about a week ago, is the last change to my system.
Adobe Indesign CS3 Now takes about 7 minutes (i've timed it) to open a document. And another 5-7 minutes to save a document. It was working fine, and i've been using since nov. of 07. this just started last week and i can't find any information on the Super Duper slow down issue out there.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded their script fix, updated, reupdated...doesn't seem to matter. new install just like the old one. about 15 minutes of open/save time per file. That adds up in hurry throughout a day of work.
Anybody else have this problem? or know why it's suddenly happening?

    Possibly answering my own question
after nearly pulling all my hair out, i just turned off the suitcase fusion font sense preference and auto activate and indesign seems to be opening and saving documents in a few seconds like it used to.
well, t hat appears to have done it for now. right after posting too.
unfortunately, trying to figure this out has lead me to the can't repair SUID permissions problem. oh well. i'll let that one rest for now and just get some work done.

  • Indesign 'save as' works differently to usual

Hi - When I open an indesign file in the finder then 'save as' it directs me to the last place that I saved any indesign file. Used to be it would direct me to the place I opened the file. I have recently upgraded to  OS X 10.9.2.
Does anyone know if this is an indesign issue or a system software issue. I have looked in prefs of both, but am none the wiser.

On a Macintosh, there is a great utility which remembers past locations in Open and Save dialogs and is pretty essential for productivity. It's called Default Folder and is available here:
Default Folder X - St. Clair Software
Very well designed and constantly kept up-to-date.

  • InDesign "Save As" dialog box for every operation in INDB book file; updating page numbers, etc.

So I haven't used INDB files in awhile in InDesign, and today was the first time I attempted to adjust an old INDB (created originally with CS5).  For every operation of adjusting the book file, such as updating page/section number or adding/removing an INDD file I get a Save As dialog box for each constiuent INDD file.  This is quite annoying since the book has lots of INDDs, and I have to click through the tedious save as with each.  I previously worked with INDBs in CS5, and never encountered this, there was no need to save each INDD in the book just to update the page numbers.  I tried creating a new INDB in CS5.5 thinking that maybe it was because I was working from a file created with an older version of InDesign.  Does anyone know if there is a way to suppress the Save As dialog?  Another thing I noticed that is supremely frustrating is that this new build of InDesign doesn't default to saving the file in its original location, and I have unwittingly ended up saving files in other places, only to later realize it.  I am using InDesign CS5.5 Ver. 7.5.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.3  Any help is greatly appreciated.

It will only happen once (and frankly, what you are doing is a very bad idea).
When you open the old book in CS5, you are converting to the new format. All of the legacy files also need to be converted, even if added to a new book in CS5.5, hence the Save As since ID will not overwrite the old versions until you tell it to (and that's the bad idea). I strongly recommend (though it's too late for any books you've already updated and overwritten) that you either continue to edit in the old version, or that you take the time to open each file in the original version if it's older than CS5, then export to interchange format (.inx or .idml, depending on version), open those files in CS5.5, save with new names so you don't overwrite anything, then add to a new book and proceed.
One of the reasons I recommend this seemingly time-consuming approach is that there are too many reports (another one yesterday) of some sort of problem that pops up late in the editing cycle when converting legacy files to CS5/5.5 by opening them directly and saving. This is a belt and suspenders insurance approach, and is far less labor intensive than starting over, which might end up being your other option down the road if something goes wrong.

  • File save issue

Is there a way to set a default extension when saving an image using  FileReference save method?
    Code:
    var fileReference:FileReference = new FileReference();
    fileReference.save( pngData, "image.png" );
    Problem:
If windows is set to "hide known file extensions",
only image without extension will be displayed in save dialog.
    File type is "*.*".
Some of my users hat the great idea to add .jpg extension in filename,  because they couldn't see one.
So file was saved broken as image.jpg.

Where is that File Ref coming from?  I don't see where you open the file.  Nor do I see where you are closing it.
It also concerns me that you are passing the reference to two different places.  I can't see what is happening in your subVI, but that is a potential issue.
You should be using the "Not a Number/Path/Refnum?" function to check to see if your file reference is valid.
Your loops run forever.  You should have a way to gracefully shut down your VIs instead of just cutting power.

  • InDesign CS6 issue on PDF export - only close active

    Hi,
I have a situation with my script (or something else). The line of the code where error occurs is this:
myApplication.ActiveDocument.Export("Adobe PDF", myPDFFileName, False, myApplication.PDFExportPresets.Item("[Smallest File Size]"))
Nothing special... everyday for about 300 times (or exports) - everything went ok, but 1-2 times I get an error on exporting. The actual place when InDesign stops is shown in screenshots:
    Few things to mention here:
    1. sometimes InDesign not responding after this
    2. sometimes it is alive but only Close is active, save, save as, save a copy are gray
    3. everything can be restored from recovery
    4. at that very point when exporting pdf, possible is that an inserted image from this indd file could be opened in photoshop somewhere else on the network
    5. everything is on the network, indd, links, images, incopy stories
My guess is that InDesign couldn't read or get the image at this moment from the network but then again, the guys are telling me that no error is logged on router, switch, network etc...
Any medicine? Maybe how to avoid this?
    Tnx. Regards,
    Marko

    Tnx Jarek.
    I'll give it a try.
One more thing to mention. Once when this happened, the links palette was empty beside many images on page and incopy stories ?!?!
Can you recall any kind of script that could be run from InDesign at the time when this happen again? Maybe anything that could alert some error or message?
    Regards,
    Marko

  • Photoshop CC 2014 file save issue on OS X Server 2.21

Before we start, I do know that Adobe doesn't officially support saving files to a file server.
However on CC2014 sometimes when we save files they disappear and we are left with a temporary file in the
    directory.
Wondering if anyone else has seen these issues?
Photoshop CC doesn't seem to have this problem

I had a copy of the older Server on a backup drive, where I keep the system installers and Server installers just in case.
I zipped Server on the backup and removed the original and immediately the update went away.
So because spotlight indexes all the drives it was finding the old version on my external RAID and thinking it needed updating

  • New iMac 24" Grey - Energy Saver Issue

    10.4.10
    2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    1GB 667 Mhz DD2 SDRAM
    Boot Rom 1M71.007A.B00
    Model Ident: iMac7,1
*The Energy Saver is having issues*
Put the Computer to sleep when it is inactive for - set to Never
Put the display to sleep when it is inactive for - set to Never
Unchecked - Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible
The reason I have the above set the way I have it is cause I'm running some performance tests... however, every 2-3 minutes the Screen is turned off, the Hard drive is turned off and the computer is put to sleep. It's doing exactly the opposite of what I want it to do. Which then in turns puts a massive hit on the performance results every time the computer goes to sleep.... even though it's told not to go to sleep, I'll even click the lock to lock it down but that doesn't matter, it still goes to sleep 2-3 minutes later.... AND it doesn't matter if the mouse moves to keep it active.
Is there a Fix for this?
I ran the software update and it doesn't do much. But in the end it still does the same thing.
I've reinstalled the OS several times but that doesn't fix the issue.
    Again to reiterate,
Energy Saver window in the System Preferences
    Sleep Tab
both sliders set to Never and Hard Drive is set to NOT go to sleep (as it's unchecked)
I have other iMacs some older some the same, all work as told, except this one.

Yep, that seems to agree with your Energy Saver preference settings. It would be surprising only if they did not match . It appears that the GUI and pmset are working with the same preference file (as they should).
*sleep = 0* <----------> Put the Computer to sleep when it is inactive for - set to Never
*displaysleep = 0* <----> Put the display to sleep when it is inactive for - set to Never

OTOH, I would have expected see one additional line: "*halfdim =* \[0 or 1\]" -- controlled by:
*Energy Saver > Options > "Automaticaly reduce the brightness ...yada, yada"*
I'm also running 10.4.10 (but on a white C2D). When I set my preferences to match yours, pmset -g always lists "halfdim = 0" or "halfdim = 1", as expected. Kinda strange that yours doesn't list it.
I presume you've followed den.thed's good advice on resetting the SMC, so the only things I can think of would be:
\- Make sure Screen Saver is set to 'Never' ... but I'm guessin' you already did that
\- Delete the Energy Saver preferences and scheduled events files (make copies first!), then immediately shutdown and reset the SMC ...yet again!
Here's where the Energy Saver preference and schedule files live (from "man pmset"):
+All changes made through pmset are saved in a persistent preferences file (per-system, not per-user ) at+
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
+Scheduled power on/off events are stored separately in+
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
+pmset modifies the same file that System Preferences Energy Saver modifies.+
I wonder if the EFI ROM is old, and needs updated.
I don't think there have been any EFI updates for the 2.4 GHz iMacs -- but I'm sure someone here could confirm/correct that.
...who knows what evil lurks in the mind of pmset?

  • User is having a save issue with Word 2007 documents created from a template.

I have 1 particular user, out of approx. 30, that is experiencing an intermittent problem when trying to save a Word 2007 document to a network drive.  The particular error is
"Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. (xxx.docx)"  CTRL-SHIFT-I Error Code is: 701743
This only happens while he is working in a document created from a template (.dotm) file I made a few months ago.  The problem has never occurred with any other Word docs or Excel, or any of the other users accessing the template to create documents. He
also gets an error message stating
"xxx.docx cannot be found.  Check your spelling, or try a different path."  CTRL-SHIFT-I Error Code is: 200635
But this only occurs when trying to "Save As"  The odd thing is that if he renames the file to something like xxx1.docx, it will allow him to save on the network folder with no issues.  And as mentioned, this is intermittent - he may go weeks without
seeing the message while doing nothing different.
I have tried search for similar issues in the forums but they don't seem to match exactly what is happening to us.  Our 3-man IT department seems to be at a loss and I have had good luck solving other issues in this forum so I thought I would give it
    a try.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CS6 Issues!

Ever since we got CS6 here at work, we've had nothing but issues. This is not an upgrade, it is a clean install on a brand new iMac 10.8.5.
Today starts a new set of issues. Indesign crashes about 2 or 3 times just for the fun of it, then this afternoon when I was trying to export a PDF, I noticed that there was text missing on my screen. The text boxes were there but no text was visible. I tried to click inside the text box and select it - nothing! I thought that maybe it's just a view thing so I exported the PDF anyway and the text was missing in it also - Gone! I went back into the ID document, selected the text box, opened it up, closed it up - nothing. Then all of the sudded when I zoomed in or out just one click (happened both directions), like magic the text appeared. Now, I can see the text, but I can't select or edit the text. One of my text boxes I had to just redo. This is a major pain seeing how I have just spent the last 9 hours working on a 36 x 11 gatefold product brochure and now I can't edit but just some of the text. I have checked and no layers are locked and there is nothing on any master pages...... I don't want to have to go back and retype all this data... It's not all of the text, just random text boxes. One of the boxes, the text is just gone.... There is nothing there.
I have deleted the Version 8.0 folders from my cahses folder and from my prefrences folder but to no avail.
Has anyone else been experiencing these kinds of issues???

The only font manager I have is Font Book and I run updates about every 2 or 3 days so all my software is up to date. Also, it isn't like it's been an on going issue, this just started on this one job. I never had these kinds of problems until now. I have a G5 sitting here that has CS4 on it and it never gave a minutes problems.
Any other ideas???? What is scary is to think that this may be have been a 1.5 million dollar job and to think that ID6 is having these kinds of issues.....
