InDesign with eps image

Hi Experts,
We have a problem with EPS image which duplicates the pages while exporting in to PostScript file.
For example, we have placed the particular EPS image in page 2 and if we export the document as PS the same page has duplicated (i.e. 1,2,2,3....) in PostScript/PDF file.
We never had this problem if we export directly into PDF format.
Is there any idea why InDesign creates duplicate page while exporting in to PS?
We are using InDesign CS4 (Windows).

Stop using EPS and stop printing to postscript.
Both are archaic. Use native AI, PSD or PDF files and export to PDF.

    "Problem"? Uh, *what* problem?
    "AI Script"? There is no such thing.
    I'm willing to interpret "cordite" as "coordinate" but you must provide more (a LOT more) information before anyone can volunteer to help you. You are not posting to an automated system that retrieves stock answers from a database. You are asking Real People to help you. (And this is a user-to-user forum, so it's all voluntary as well.)

  • Relinks images with .eps

    Hi All,
    I have a document with lots of missing images showing no extensions.
    I need to relink those images with .eps. Rest of the image naming is same.
    For example:
    missing image naming in the document is "art01". I need to relink it with "art01.eps".
    I found the below script but when I run this script it gives error (see screenshot). Please help.
    var i, j;
    for (j=0; j<app.documents.length; j++) {
        doc = app.documents[j];
        imgs = doc.links;
        path = doc.filePath;
        $.writeln("Processing document "+j+" from path "+path);
        for (i=0; i<imgs.length; i++)
            // Missing?
        $.writeln("Image "+i);
            if (imgs[i].status == LinkStatus.LINK_MISSING)
            $.writeln("Missing: "+imgs[i].name);
                // Do we have a file?
                imglist = Folder(path).getFiles (imgs[i].name+".*");
            $.writeln("Found "+imglist.length+" possible replacements.");

                    // Oh yeah
                    imgs[i].relink(imglist[0]);

    I have tried this but it is still not working. It is showing same error.
    I have also tried below script from Jongware. It is also showing same error mentioned above.
    Please help.
    More clarification, is there any JS code which can replace missing link (without extension .eps) with .eps images.
    Images naming are same. Only difference is missing link doesn't have extension (.eps) and images folder have images with extension (.eps).

  • InDesign CS5.5 won't import docx/Word2010 with linked images.

    Hi,
    Maybe somebody knows what is going out
    I have WORD 2010 document with LINKED MathType equations saved as EPS files.
    In WORD 2010 they are LINKED or LINKED AND EMBEDED - but when I try to import this DOCX file into InDesign CS5.5 - images are missing.
    Only EMBEDED images are imported/visible - but of course not linked.
    I hope somebody can tell me if this is WORD or InDesign problem and how to fix this.
    DOC file saved from WORD 2000 - imports perfectly fine - all EPS equations linked in WORD are perfectly visible and still linked in InDesign CS 5.5.
    thx

    Hi Robert, we haven't seen you here for a while. Welcome back.
    Thx
    I know Jongware complains bitterly that Word import can be really flakey. Did you try daving as plain .doc, too? Seems like MathType equations are also the subject of a fair number of posts, too, but I'm not sure they are really a similar problem. I don't suppose there's any way for you to convert the eqations to .ai or PDF and still use them as links in Word, or to embed rather than link?
    I'm working on big tool to automatic mass processing big number of Word files. One of the steps is to prepare Word files with MathType equations for further manual processing. I have a macro (for Word2010) to automatically  export all equations to EPS files. The next step is to reImport EPS files back to Word - so they will be imported into InDesign as linked files and then they could be automatically correctly positioned withing the text.
    The problem is - I've done reImport step in Word2000 - as 2nd macro - and it works perfectly fine for DOC files saved from Word2000.
    Of course I can do this in InDesign - but I think it would be faster in Word.
    I think missing import of the linked files for DOCX files is a BIG bug ...

  • Indesign crashes when exporting to pdf with .eps and .ai files placed

    Hi everyone,
    I have an Indesign file with 4 placed Illustrator .eps file placed. Whenever I try to export to pdf, it starts to export and then when it reaches a page with a .eps file on it, it hovers for a minute and then Indesign crashes. I decided to save these 4 .eps files as .ai files and replace them. Now when I export to pdf, it gets through the export and a pdf file is created but immediately after, Indesign crashes.
    Is this a sign of corrupt .eps or .ai files or a corrupt Indesign file? All I know is that if I remove all the image files, then the ID file is fine, ie. it exports and ID doesn't crash.
    Is there a way to test either .eps, .ai or Indesign files for corruption, and if they are corrupt is it possible to repair them?
    Appreciate any help offered.

    You haven't said which version of Indesign you are using or other specs, but I would bet that you are using CS2 on an Intel Mac. CS2 runs under Rosetta on an Intel Mac, and I have found that memory problems are often the result of crashes like the ones you have described. My advice is to stay away from EPS files and use AI or PSD, especially if the file is a bitmap or photo. This has eliminated all the crashes that used to occur on my system. As far as the crashes after making PDF files, I don't have a solution other than restarting Indesign after exporting a PDF file or two at a time. The same Rosetta memory problem seems to mess it up for me. Mine would just exit from Indesign with no warning. Hope this helps.

  • Working with greyscale images in InDesign

    I am designing a photobook in InDesign with several B&W images in it. InDesign in currently in PhoPhoto RGB working space. I am having the book printed by LuLu, and they require that any monochrome images in the PDF be in greyscale with a gamma between 2.2 and 2.4.
    So I opened all the image files in Photoshop and converted them to "grey gamma 2.2", and then saved as JPGs and made sure to check the "embed grey gamma 2.2 profile" box.
    However, when I place those images in InDesign, they look completely different! I went to "Color Settings" and then saw that InDesign doesn't have a greyscale working space. Now I understand why they look so different, but my question is - when I export the PDF from InDesign, will the images look like they did in Photoshop or will they have the "washed out" appearance they have in InDesign?
    What's the best way to do this?

    >I just want to make sure I'm getting all of this. I did also notice that LuLu recommends not converting from RGB to CMYK or vice versa. Since I shoot all of my images RAW and import them into Lightroom, which is in ProPhoto RGB, then I guess that means all of my color images should be exported from Photoshop in ProPhoto RGB and my working profile in ID should also be ProPhoto RGB. Since the working space and profiles are the same in each application, the images should look the same in both. Correct?
    That's right, but again if you want to see the a preview of ProPhotoRGB converted to CMYK, you'll need to set your Proof Setup to a CMYK space. In Photoshop I edit color in RGB with Proof Colors turned on and the Proof Setup set to the destination CMYK space.
    >You were suggesting converting them to CMYK in Photoshop
    No! I was suggesting that you use a CMYK profile as your grayscale profile, which Photoshop allows. So, instead of Edit>Convert to Profile>Greyscale Gamma 2.2; you could set your Gray Working space to US Sheetfed via Color Settings>More Options>Gray>Load..., and then simply convert the RGB image to Grayscale via Mode>Grayscale. In this case your grayscale is profiled as if it were on the black plate of a CMYK file, so if you also use US Sheetfed in ID you'll get a similar preview.
    Using a CMYK profile for grayscale in PS is a nice trick, but it isn't going to make or break the jobthere will always be variation depending on how much ink density the press operator is running. If this is the first job you are sending Lulu I would follow their instructions and use 2.2 as the grayscale space, then if there's an issue you can honestly say you followed their instructions.

    FreeHand use screen image of eps file (often rgb) if printed
    to non-postscript printer. It will not solve the problem but check
    color managemet settings anyway.
    Eps is 'encapsulated postscript' which means it is a package
    of instant ps-printer food indigestible for non-ps printers. A few
    programs like InDesign can render new screen image from eps file.
    A few workarounds.
    1. Create a pdf, prefeably with Acrobat Distiller, and print
    from Acrobat.
    2. Use tiff file instead of eps.

  • When I place an EPS image it shows White background

    Hi
    Please help me urgent!!!!
    im using CS5
    when i place an EPS image in Indesign, a white background shows.
    First in PS, i clip mask the image and then flatten the image....I was told to do this.
    the i save it as below:
    Save As: Photoshop EPS
    EPS OPTION
    Preview: Macintosh (8 bits/Pixels)
    Encoding: JPEG (High Quality)
    -  Include Halftone Screen (Not selected)
    -  Include Transfer Function (Not selected)
    -  Postcript Colour Management (Not selected)
    -  Include Vector Data (Cannot select)
    -  Image Interpolation (Not selected)
    Then when I place the image in InDesign, i do the foll:
    I select Import Options:
    - Read Embedded OPI Links (not selected)
    - Apply Photoshop Clipping Path (Selected)
    Proxy Generation
    - Use TIFF or PICT Preview (Selected)
    - Rasterise the Postcript (not selected)
    I still get the white background.
    even when I change the Proxy Genertion to Rasterise the Postcript
    Before I should save the image as a PSD (without Clipping Mask and dont flatten the image). the print would come out different colours...not the same. And apparentlt the printer should have a hard time printing the work. So i was told to clipp mask it, flattern the image and save as EPS.
    Please help. Im deseperate and do not know what to do

    Before I should save the image as a PSD (without Clipping Mask and dont flatten the image). the print would come out different colours...not the same.
    Are you saying the printer can't get a .PSD to output, or a PSD's color is unpredictable? Sounds like your printer can print .PSDs, but you  have a color management problem. By different colors do you mean that the printed CMYK color values are different than what was in the placed PSD? If that's the case it may be that the PSD had a profile that conflicted with the InDesign document profile and you are getting unexpected color conversions somewhere in the workflow.

  • In-design CS4 Export to RTF format, .png & .eps images aren't displaying.

    I have an InDesign CS4 document that has a combination of .png images, .eps images & text.  And I'm trying to export the main story that contains all the content to RTF format.  The export generates a .rtf file.  And when I view the document in a plain text editor such as Notepad or UltraEdit, I can see the images are there due to the lines & lines of image encoding.  But when I open it inside of Word 2010 or Word Pad, I don't see the images.  I just see the text.
    I've tried generating the rtf export using the normal In-Design interface, as well as trying the sample javascript "ExportAllStories.jsx" that comes with CS4.  Both fail to generate an RTF doc with a readable .png or .eps graphic.
    My Images are AchoredObjects inside of Rectangles.  I can provide the IDML export code if needed.
    I've also verified that if I add an image into Word, be it .png or .eps & then save as RTF, the images are later viewable.
    Is there a bug with In-Design CS 4 in how it generates .png & .eps images for RTF?

    I think I finally figured this out. I move a lot of docts back and forth between InDesign and Word, and oddly enough - some of the PNG files WERE exporting from InDesign to RTF, but not others. So I knew that it wasn't impossible! My client gives me Word docts created using screenshots, sometimes over 200 graphics in one doct. I make sure they are all inline with the text in Word, which keeps them inline  when I place them in InDesign (although they are not "anchored objects" as such). All of the graphics were treated the exact same way, so why should some export to RTF and not all of them? I finally unembedded all the links to compare file properties, and there were absolutely no differences - except SIZE. I tested a few randomly, making some files bigger in Photoshop, and making others smaller, and that absolutely made the difference in whether they would export to RTF or not. The cutoff seems to be somewhere between 40-50 KB. So instead of discriminating against certain file types, that was just coincidental - since PNG files (and GIF) are generally so small.
    But I'm still a little stuck as to the best workflow, given the quantity of image files I have in each doct. I tried creating an action in PS to change the image resolution from 72 to 150, applied it to the whole folder, then updated the links in InDesign. And yes, all but the very tiniest images are now exporting to RTF, but the image quality is crappy! I would love it if someone has any advice on  that.
    Sorry, should have mentioned - this is InDesign CS5.

  • Can I place an clipped eps image into a PSD file?

    WINDOWS
    CS2 Photoshop
    I just started using CS2 - Can I place an eps image (saved with a clip path created in PSD) into a PSD file? I used to be able to do that in PSD 7.
    When I place the eps file into PSD, I don't get the clip I get the entire image.
    I made sure that I saved the file with the clip path.
    Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

    Not that I'm aware of. The whole vector stuff has been changed for CS2, including completely revised file format loaders and later on the addition of smart objects of course, which of course is what you would do in CS3...

  • Windows 7 Word 2010 with EPS A4 Acrobat X Pro Paper Size Issue

    I'm running into the following issue trying to create a PDF.
    Word 2010 A4 page size. Document has some Illustrator EPS images used in it.
    When I go to make the PDF using Acrobat from the top menu and then Create PDF, the page size of the PDF is A4, but the color is the low res bit map preview look. Not acceptable color, all colors converted to CMYK, but the EPS files have incorrect color values.
    When I use File Print Acrobat PDF, the color is correct, but it reduces the pages to 8-1/2 x 11. Every setting I can find is calling for a A4 page size. This way the colors are left as the original files CMYK + Pantone colors.
    I spent 2-1/2 hours with Adobe on this and they had no solution.
    We have tried different Default Settings and no difference.
    The Adobe PDF Page Size: is A4.
    If we make the page size A3 then it generates a A3 size PDF.
    When I was running XP with Word 2003 and Acrobat 9 Pro I didn't run in to this problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • How do I dynamically create a hyperlink in Indesign with vb

    Hi, does anyone know how to create a dynamic link to Indesign with vb? I'm coding a catalog from Access database with images and would like to make an "Enlarge image" hyperlink while generating the page. Somehow I seem to have no luck in my code. Thanks for any suggestions.

    As simple as it sounds to create hyperlinks with VB into Indesign CS4 it really took time and effort to finally
    come up with the solution. With the kind help of  Max Dunn an old InDesign scripting bug with VB was discovered responsible for this. But if you split the job into two parts it can be done.
    First make the document without hyperlinks in VB by putting the URLs in script labels on each graphic frame. Then in Indesing run a post-processing script in JavaScript that iterates through the graphic frames, and for each, if it has a script label, set that as the URL for hyperlink.
    Here is how I did it in Indesign.
    var myDocument = app.documents.item(0);
    for(var myCounter = myDocument.rectangles.length-1; myCounter >= 0; myCounter --){
    alert(myCounter)
    var myRectangle = myDocument.rectangles.item(myCounter);
    var myLabel = myDocument.rectangles.item(myCounter).label;
    try{
    myHyperlinkURL = myDocument.hyperlinkURLDestinations.add(myLabel);
    myHyperlinkSource = myDocument.hyperlinkPageItemSources.add(myRectangle);
    myHyperlink=myDocument.hyperlinks.add(myHyperlinkSource,myHyperlinkURL);
    myHyperlink.visible=false;
