InfoCube Design for Variable data - Use of Line Item Dimensions

I have an infoprovider based on billing conditions which we have extended the extractor structure for 2LIS13_VDKON and we now have a requirement to add Customer fields such as Customer Purchase Order Number and Contract Number. These fields are obviously highly variable. I have added to them to the reporting DSO and now need advice on what is the best way to add these types of fields as reportable dimensions to the infocube so as to not impact performance? I currently have 9 dimensions with multiple charachteristics and a time dimension. Should I just create a line item dimension for Purchase Order? Problem is I have 8 other line item dimensions to add which are customer specific reporting fields that we capture on the sales order and wish to report on. I know there is a limit of 16 dimensions and I am also concerned about performance.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi,
To make sure that the infocube you have created should not have any performance issue: Please do the following
Go to RSRV > All elementary tests-> Database---> database information about infoprovider tables
Upon clicking on database information about infoprovider tables, on the right hand side, in the parameter enter your infocube name and execute and see the log: ( log will automatically popping up once you are done with execution )
There see the database infomation about infoprovider:
This log wil make you to understand how well you have designed your infocube and make sure that each (f ) table corresponding to each dimension will not exceed 20 % of the infocube size.
You create dimensions of infocubes in a such a way ( whether line item or normal dimension ) so that any of the dimensional F table will not exceed 20 % of the infocube size.
Actually this will give us the information of the size of the data of particular dimension and there by if any particular dimension is exceeding the 20 % of the infocube size, then you need to create line item dimension for the characteristics existing in that dimension .
After creating again, test it and see whether any of the dimension table exceeding 20% infocube size .
Repeat this process until you see all dim F tables less than 20 % of the info cube table size
This will negate any performance issues arise in reporting

I have a question here:
When modeling a cube,we can use the line item dimesion to improve the reading performance in some cases.for example when we use SD doc. characteristic as a line item dimesion.
But what I wonder is there any limitation or impact when we use this function? What about if I click this function even for a casual characteristic like bussiness area or something? Is that useful to improve performance or impact vice versa?

Hello Johnson,
The Infocube has extended star shema structure, i.e fact table contains Key figures & Dimentions, so characteristics is link with SID (Surrogate ID) to dimention table for faster access the data. These SID is further link with ur Master Data.
In this case dimension tables are eliminated and characteristics infoobjects SID is directly written in the fact table insted of dimension id so it will improve the performance.
SAP recommends that you use ODS objects, where possible, instead of InfoCubes for line items
If you are looking at better query performance and you have less than 13 chars. in ur datamodel, then you can place them individually in each dimension. make the dimensions as line item Dim .
In this case Line item IC is better than ODS.
but if you are having many data fields and you want to report on lowest granularity of data, then ODS is better option.
For Example :
Line item dimension for Order or Order item contains huge data, same as fact table. two huge table joins creates performance issues.
So SAP suggests, ODS reporting is good for Order level reporting then Line item dimensions.
Advantages of Line item :
Line item dimension is used to improve queryperformance.
Instead of joining fact table to dimension reduce joints
Disadvantages of line item :
A dimension marked as a line item cannot subsequently include additional characteristics.

I would love to answer this for you. You have 2 GB's to use on our network this will start over at the beginning of your cycle. If you use Wifi and turn off our network, Wifi would not go against that 2 GB bucket.

Master Data Text Used as Line Items in ODS

Hi Experts! 
I would just like to know if I can use the text I loaded of master data Revenue Type from R/3 in BW? 
What I have done already is that I have created a customized extractor in R/3 under the CO-PA-IO node in RSA6 (since I think this is where this data is coming from/should belong under. A consultant of ours (before I got here) have already set up the other individual extractors for Sub Product A & B, Product Line, others in the FS10N transaction, document line item details.Hi Experts!

How can i set it up such that I am also able to match my line items with their corresponding Rev Type Text in the ODS results? It is important to note that for Sub Product A, B, and Product Line fields, the previous setup is able to do so, and I am able to see results for these in the ODS line items results. These are also setup as master data text in BW by our previous consultant and I followed the same procedure and setup. 
I feel that I am just missing a step on how to tell BW that the master data text should also be matched to the Line Items in the ODS during loading.

Thanks for the reply! 
First of all, yes, I think we are on the same page regarding what I want to do... I have created a master data infoObject in BW, created a customized extractor in R/3 under CO-PA-IO node, and mapped them to each other in BW such that when i execute a package in InfoSource in BW, i am able to load master data text in InfoObject Rev Type in BW. 
Kindly explain more on "you should have created the revenue type as a text datasource and loaded the data into the text and not the master data". Do you mean to say that I should have just created a regular datasource (i.e. Flexible Update in any Data Target InfoSource), rather than a direct update of Master Data datasource? 
However, if this is what you meant, please remember that for other characteristics such as Sub Product A, B, Product Lines, Sales Region, Business Center etc. (as seen in FS10N tcode per GL), are reflected in ODS per line item, and they are setup as master data. So I was thinking maybe i just missed a step in mapping. 
Is this what you meant? My main goal is to be able to have the line items i load in ODS be matched to the particular revenue type for that GL's profit center (seen in FS10N tcode in R/3)

For each aggregate,internally dimensions are created based on the selected characteristics.

I don't think there is a field for that. In various SAP screens where you see this field, I think it is a calculated value (baseline date ZFBDT + days ZBD*T).

If you give them the Domain.sites2 file that iWeb used to create the site they will be able to open it with iWeb application (it has to be the same version as you have) and make changes. But if you're expected to also make changes you'll need a way to send that file back and forth between the two.
Also there's an online MacWorld article that describes a way that both of you could manage the site using Dropbox. Look at Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs.

I personally used the direct input way 6 years ago and it was a little bit of a struggle cause I was very new to SAP at the time. But it worked out to be ok in the end. You just have to keep messing with it till the errors are clear and then you can upload for real. The test mode is a nice touch, you can get rid of all of the errors before actually uploading the data.

The process of figuring out what you might want to create as a line item dimension can vary a bit, it can depend a lot on your exisitng level of domain expertise (how well do you know the data in question). If you are familiar with the data, I would recommend you just take an initial guess at what you believe could be line item dimensions. If you are not familiar witht the data, you might want to examine the source more to understand the cardinality of different characteristics and identify any relationships between characteristics.
I really encourage people to just go ahead and model it and load some data and review, rather than agonizing over developing the theoretically perfect model on paper before they start. You learn a lot more that way.
Any of the SAP rules of thumb, are just that, general rules, not a pronouncement from God. There are always extenuating or unique circumstances that might warrant disregarding the rule, e.g. if the InfoCube will never become very large, maybe some of the concerns just are not worth your effort.
With every release of the Oracle (and the other DBs too)Oracle keeps getting better at data warehousing and star schemas. Oracle 10i is supposed to have made handling bitmap indices much more efficient, which is on of the factors influencing the decision to create a line item dimension.
There are other threads on SDN on line item dims that provide more technical detail and can help answer you first question
As far as 2Q - generally, it's better to have several small dimensions than one larger dimension. But having said that, combining a few very small dimensions into another slightly larger (but still small) dimension is a good idea. It keeps the number of table joins down which will improve query performance. You would do this with characterisitcs that have very few values, e.g. yes/no indicators.
e.g.
You have 8 characteristics that all of which have only two values. You put them in one dimension, and the max size of the dimension table is still only 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 or 256 rows. If you had these characteristics in other much larger dimensions, it's not hard to see it causing those dimensions to double, perhaps creating hundreds of thousands of dimension table rows to be created.

How to get the Delivery date in PO line Item in SAPScript

I am working on PO Script (MEDRUCK). I copied the Standard to a Z form. ZMM_MEDRUCK, Now I need to print the the Header text at the end of MAIN window. I put Iem number along with the other line Item informmation like stanadrd PO Script MEDRUCK. I also want to show the delivey date with line Item, so Itried to use EKET-EINDT but it is returning the delivery date of last line item, means while printing the first line and other information it is showing the delivery date of the last line item, I tried with the PEKPO-EINDT it is also not working.
Can any body suggest me how i can get the delivery date for the respective line Item ?

actually your are picking up the correct data from Table EKET (EKET-EINDT) but your are printing that in item data loop for EKET might have already executed in your script and the header of that internal table consist the last entry of the table so for that. Fetch the delivery date explicite from the Table EKET when your in item level processing and print that.

To print you have write the this code in Script item level printing window "MAIN" window

Service procurement for the free texts ( Multiple line items in PO)

In the service procurement for the free texts ( Multiple line items in PO)referring to the same Contract we are cretaing the POs
thro ME59 ( Program RM06BB20) an unusual error message appears as under:
"_Material/Service group STGOP2 does not exist"_This Material group is unavailable in T023 as well.
We checked the same issue by recreating with the exact data in the Test environment and everything works OK
We are working on the R3 version 470...
Any body faced such an issue ?

We have faced another issue of the same nature while a PO is being created using the tcode ME21N for service free text items referring a PR ( Service item has no Contract assigned but a fixed vendor)
The error relates to SE419 ( Mat grp 'XXXX' does not exist)
Any takers..
We are using a custom doc type for the PR

Usage of line item dimension - design or run time?

Can anyone please tell me at which stage a line item dimension is considered - at design time or after data load, once queries are run and performance degenerates?
I have read many posts and blogs about line item dimension and high cardinality, but I would require more information on when a line item dimension comes into play.
If we can decide at design time, then how is it done without data being loaded?
At which instances will the dimension table size exceed the fact table's size?
Please explain the above 2 points with a clear example, including the DIM ID and SID table access, and the ratio calculation for line item dimension consideration.

I agree with Suhas on point of consideration of LID . It would be good enough to consider a Dimension as LID in the Cube during design, it will be fruitful for the performance point of view. There is no point in saving the LID for future purpose if you have less than 13 Dimension in the Cube. It is going to save a extra join in connecting the relevant data.
If the total Dimension exceeds 13 or more (during design) , then you no option but include the related Char IO together in a one dimension.Here you cannot make a LID .
During the run phase, if the Dim table is more than 20 % of Fact Table, then for the sake of performance you have to go for the LID.In that case you will have the overhead of managing data (backup, delete & restore) .
On your specific questions :

Technically same as you do during run-- Goto Dimension -- Right click --Properties -- and Check LID.
Logically -- Depending upon the Business meaning, which char has max unique values you can go with as LID.

Frankly I haven't come across that.. ... Fact table is the center table and always will be the huge table in comparison to Dim table . Dim table cannot exceed the Fact Table ....!
Yes if the size of Dim Table is more than 20% of Fact table ( ratio of Dim Table to Fact Table) , then we have to select between the LID or High Cardanility.
Gurus..Please correct if anything is wrong ..!
