Initial execution of a workbook/query runs without ending

Hi, Experts,
I encountered a very strange behavior of Bex tool. Sometimes, Initial execution of a workbook/query runs without ending at u2018Waiting for reply from BW Serveru2019 state, then I cancel the report and run it again and it would return results within minutes. Itu2019s like it forgot to return results.
The basis team looked at the queries in the database, and said that there were actually a number of different queries being executed by my Bex query, but each individual query runs fairly quickly. The basis person pulled the statements out and ran them directly against the database and they returned result in sub seconds.
Any thoughts? Possible solution?
Thanks
Chimei

Hi,
Could u let us know what is the GUI frontend patch version you are on. Also, are there any AddOn's Installed.
What version of Excel are you using. Also just for a check, run sapbexc.xla on your local machine and check the output.
Regards,
Sree.

  • Query runs automatically on workbook open

    Hi,
Generally when we open the workbook, query runs automatically with the last accessed selections or it pops up the variable screen and runs the query. Is there any way like query can be shown as a button, and runs when the user clicks on the button? It is just like planning folder wherein we have multiple layouts shown as buttons. If two queries are inserted in the workbook, on workbook open, it runs both the queries, means it is locking both the queries data even though user will plan on one query at first and the second query next. Please let me know if any one has done that.
    Thanks,
    Bindu

    Hi Bindu,
an easy solution could be run query in non-planning mode (you have a tick in query definition) and then add a button to change query to planning mode in the workbbok (there are standard function available in workbooks) This button can be for only one query or multiple queries in workbook.

  • Need a Query to Get Execution time of each query in Proc if its running

I am looking for query which give total execution time of individual query running currently ?
we have queries but it will give cumulative time from the start date,
for example - if stored proc has 10 queries , if each query taking 10 seconds it should show me 10 secoond if its running, not from when stored proc execution started , if you have any query please let me know
    only for running queries ,

Is this the logic you're after?
    DECLARE @timeStamp DATETIME2 = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, @lapTimeStamp DATETIME2, @x INT = 0
    SET @lapTimeStamp = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
    WHILE @x < 10000
    BEGIN
    SET @x = @x + 1
    END
PRINT CAST(DATEDIFF(MS,@TIMESTAMP,CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) AS VARCHAR) + ' milliseconds have elapsed since the begining of the proc. ' + CAST(DATEDIFF(MS,@lapTimeStamp,CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) AS VARCHAR) + ' have elapsed since the last batch'
    SET @lapTimeStamp = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
    SET @x = 0
    WHILE @x < 10000
    BEGIN
    SET @x = @x + 1

PRINT CAST(DATEDIFF(MS,@TIMESTAMP,CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) AS VARCHAR) + ' milliseconds have elapsed since the begining of the proc. ' + CAST(DATEDIFF(MS,@lapTimeStamp,CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) AS VARCHAR) + ' have elapsed since the last batch'

  • Query Explain without running it.

I use trans code rsrt to display the execution plan of my slow running query. Can anyone tell me how to do this WITHOUT running the query. Each time I try and exit it runs.
    Thanks

    Hi Richard,
I am not so sure but I think any optimizer program needs to run the QUERY somehow to detect the execution plan. Even if you go straight to the RDBMS (<i>e.g. MSSQL, ORACLE etc.</i>) bundled <i>optimizer/analyzer utilities</i> with them somehow executes the <b>SQL Query</b> to detect <i>bottlenecks</i> and problematic sections of the SQL Query (w/c is of no difference to BEX Query as in your Case).

  • Checking text query validity without actually running the query: ideas?

    Hi,
I would like to implement a sort of function that does a preliminary check on the validity of the search string and ideally this function should work with both CTXCAT and CONTEXT indexes (and grammars).
Initially I thought that CTXQUERY.EXPLAIN function could do this for me, but, unless I am missing something, it only works with CONTEXT indexes and it doesn't accept a string containing a text query rewrite using CTXCAT grammar (it throws DRG-11119: operation is not supported by this index type).
Plan B would be to create an empty table with a CONTEXT index and then run the query either with the CONTEXT grammar or the CTXCAT grammar via query rewrite and if the query runs, returning no rows, presumably fast enough for this purpose, then the query string is assumed to be valid.
What I don't like much about plan B is the need for an additional table plus the "dummy" context indexes just to perform the parsing of the text query, but so far I didn't come up with more brilliant ideas.
    Any thoughts?
Am I missing something that does the magic without hassle?
    Thanks
    Flavio

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't do this, as you say I'd just run the query and catch the error, but I need to do this inside a report refresh performed via AJAX (using Oracle Apex) and the catch is that when such refresh fails owing to a syntax error, the partial refresh mechanism of APEX becomes broken, so even if you amend the query and submit a new valid string, it won't show up any more.
That's why I need to be sure that the string is valid before running the query, hence the syntax checking function.
The google-style parser sounds interesting, may be I can try to implement it in a future release of my app!
    Thanks
    Flavio

  • Does SQL Query run faster with/without Conditions....

Hi All, forgive my novice question.
Was just wondering" In general if we run a SQL query on a single table; does my query run faster if there are multiple where conditions? or without. What happens if the conditions increase? My table is a big one with 5 million rows and some bitmap indexes defined on it.
    Thanks,
    Kon

I think it's difficult to give general rule because there are too much dependencies on the fact that the columns are indexed or not, on the way tables and indexes statistics are computed or not, on the possible session or instance parameters that the optimizer may use, on the Oracle version, etc.

  • Query Execution Time for a Query causing ORA-1555

    dear Gurus
I have ORA-01555 error , earlier I used the Query Duration mentioned in Alert Log and increased the Undo Retention as I did not find th UnDOBLKS column of v$undostat high for the time of occurence of ORA-01555..
But new ORA-01555 is coming whose query duration exceeds Undo Retention time..
    My question -
    1. Is it possible to accurately find the query duration time besides the Alert Log file ?

abhishek, as you are using an undo tablespace and have already increased the time that undo data is retained via undo_retention then you might want to consider the following ideas which were useful with 1555 error under manual rbs segment management.
1- Tune the query. The faster a query runs the less likely a 1555 will occur.
2- Look at the processing. If a process was reading and updating the same table while committing frequenctly then the process under manual rbs management would basically create its own 1555 error rather than just being the victum of another process changing data and the rbs data being overlaid while the long running query was still running. With undo management the process could be generating more data than can be held for the undo_retention period but because it is committed Oracle has been told it doesn't really have to keep the data for use rolling back a current transaction so it gets discarded to make room for new changes.
If you find item 2 is true then separating the select from the update will likely eliminate the 1555. You do this by building a driving table that has the keys of the rows to be updated or deleted. Then you use the driver to control accessing the target table.
3- If the cause of the 1555 is or may be delayed block cleanout then select * from the target prior to running the long running query.
Realistically you might need to increase the size of the undo tablespace to hold all the change data and the value of the undo_retention parameter to be longer than the job run time. Which brings up back to option 1. Tune every query in the process so that the job run time is reduced to optimal.
    HTH -- Mark D Powell --
    dear mark
Thanks for the excellent advise..I found that the error is coming because of frequent commits..which is item 2 as u righly mentioned ..
I think I need to keep a watch on the queries running , I was just trying to find the execution time for the queries..If there is any way to find the query duration without running a trace ..
    regards

    Help!
GrFinger is an SDK put out by Grauile (or something like that) just seach grfinger in google, you'll find it.
    Thanks

Don't you think you should really contact Grauile ?
They wrote the software, including the native DLL libraries, and probably encountered this problem before on dual processor machines.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with a Windows operating system file there.
Perhaps try an sfc /scannow. For instructions, see the following Microsoft document:

  • Query running too long on a partitioned table

    Hello,
I'm trying to run the following query on a 73 million row table, but the query keeps running and running without returning any result within a reasonable amount of time.
    select *
    from svcdepot.service_log l
    where dbms_lob.instr(l.service_log, 'SALESFORCE_ROLE_CREATED') > 0 and rownum < 2
    and create_date > sysdate - .1
this table has a normal index on the create_date table and is also partitioned on create_date. The partition names are like PARTITION20120316 and PARTITION20120311. It says values less than TIMESTAMP' 2012-03-16 00:00:00' and TIMESTAMP' 2012-03-11 00:00:00', respectively. Could someone please tell me how I can modify the query so that it doesn't run forever? It seems to struggle against the create_date column (while I was troubleshooting). I just need one record with that SALESFORCE_ROLE_CREATED text in that clob column.
    Thanks!

  • Execution time of a query

    Hi,
I am trying to find the execution time of a SQL query.
    How to do it?
    Regards.
    Ashish

    >I am trying to find the execution time of a SQL query.
    How to do it?
    Psuedo code:
time = SystemTime() -- get the current system time
RunSQL() -- run the SQL statement
print( SystemTime()-time ) -- displays the difference in time
Needless to say that this is utterly useless most of the time. The first time a query is run it may be subjected to a hard parse. The second time not. So the exact same SQL will show different execution times. This execution time measurement is useless as it does not tell you anything - except that there was a difference in time.
The first time a query runs it make do a lot of physical I/O to read the data from disk. The second time around, with the data in the db buffer cache, it makes use of logical I/O. There is a significant difference in the execution of the exact same SQL. Again, the measurement of execution is meaningless. It does not tell you anything. One number versus another number. Nothing meaningful to compare.
Fact. The very same SQL will have different execution times.
So what do you hope to gain from measuring it?

  • Inserting into Table-in-Table after re-execution the Outer Table query

    Hi Gurus,
I have a problem with inserting into Table-in-Table after re-execution the Outer Table query:
    The problem:
    I have two tables; both tables are based on VO; tables have a VL between them;
The Inner Table is hidden when page lode.
I'm executing the Outer Table, open the details to see the Inner Table, I can add rows to the Inner Table. Everything is OK.
    But-
After I'm executing the Outer Table again –
Adding new rows to the Inner Table is not work anymore, despite I'm executing the Inner Table RowSet query.
    Scenario is:
    In processRequest():
In the processRequest() I'm calling executeQuery() of the Outer Table Only.
(So the Details executeQuery() will be done by VL and Its works fine.)
    In processFormRequest():
User opens the details to see the Inner Table.
On some event, I'm executing the Outer Table query.
On some other event, programmatically I am inserting a new row to the Inner Table, and a new row is displayed in the Inner Table as I wanted.
In this way, one row after another, I can add as many rows as I wish, without any problem.
(This scenario should behave as same clicking on button of type "Add-Another-Row", just adding the row automatically)
The code for the inserting (as specified in the chapter "Classic Tables" --> "table-in-table"):
    OARow newRow = (OARow) innerRowSet.createRow();
    innerRowSet.insertRow(newRow);
    innerRowSet.setRangeSize(innerRowSet.getRangeSize()+ 1);
    innerRowSet.executeQuery();
If the user won't cause to re-execution of the outer table – no problem occurs.
    * Should I add something after the Outer Table VO execution?
    * Maybe to the inserting to the Inner Table code?
    Please help…

    Hi, Thanks.
I don't know which one of the Outer Table rows is the current row,
    But-
Only the Details (the Inner Tables) who where opened before the executeQuery() of the Outer table are not acts as they should.
All the Details who where closed before the executeQuery() of the Outer table are still works fine.
    Please advise.

    select a from table1 a, table2 b where a.id=b.id
This named query runs on Toplink Essentials without any problem.
When I run this query using EclipseLink
EclipseLink generates the query below and gives an error.
    select table1.id, table1.name, table1.surname from table1 t0, table2 t1 where t0.id=t1.id
There are error _"*table1.surname*"_ is invalid identifier. Because; table1 is not define as an alias, must be "t0.surname".
How can I solce this problem.
