Initial installation in AD environment

Hello, I would like to implement OS X Server in my Windows 2003 AD environment, specifically use the wiki and iChat server. I notice in the documentation you have 3 implementation options
Standard
Workgroup
Advanced
My vision is to only use the Wiki and iChat services and link authentication of these services to our AD so after reading I chose the Workgroup deployment. It seems like the preferred admin tool when in Workgroup is Server Preferences and it suggest that using Server Admin could create unexpected results. What I found weird was that in the user groups in Server Preferences are not shown in Server Admin or Workgroup Manager. For instance I cannot add any External Members tot he Server Preferences group titled Workgroup but can create a new group with the Server Preferences and add external members.
Here are my questions
Was choosing Workgroup deployment a wise choice?
How do I see and modify user groups from with Server Preferences, specifically the default titled "Workgroup"

Don't be afraid to use your AD account, if you were to leave the organization it is very easy to copy your account settings back into a local account using the root user.
You simply login as root (after enabling it) & use Finder to copy all home folder data over to another local account's home folder (make sure you delete contents of home folder you are copying stuff to).
When done you simply open a terminal (still in root account) & run the following 3 commands.
cd /Users
chown -R <desired owner> <home folder>
chgrp -R staff <home folder>
This recursively changes permissions on your files to match the new account. Note that <home folder> is the name of the home folder of the new local account you've created & <desired owner> would be the shortname of the new local account (which should match name of the home folder).
In your directory binding utility if you have force local home checked then you account lives on your Mac so if you left the place you work it would still work on cached credentials. I always keep a backup local admin though just in case. Especially handy if my screen is locked & my AD account gets locked, you can unlock the screen with any local admin account & then I RDC into DC to unlock my account.

  • What is the correct procedure to install a TCS application not included in the initial installation?

I can go through the installation procedure to the point when I've switched to the 2nd DVD. Setup resumes and a few seconds later states that no application was installed.
I'm adding Captivate to my initial installation of FM9, Acrobat9 and Photoshop. I'm not uninstalling them first. Should I? Why?
The initial installation was a year ago. The OS is Windows 7.
    TIA
    Douglas

So you already have TCS2 but didn't install the full suite the first time around? So now you just want to add Captivate? I believe in that case you just select it off the list. The installer skips all the ones that you haven't selected and only does the one you have. I think Captivate is on the 2nd DVD (at least it was on the TCS2.5 upgrade one I got), so you may have to start with that one first.
Yes, I just want to add Captivate. I've been successfully doing the  canonical installation (DVD1 > setup (autoplay wouldn't work due  according to the error message to a  Unicode error in the lang.dat file)  up to the switch to DVD2.
As far as starting from DVD2 is concerned, there's no setup file on it  to launch. So that route is out.
Another option (because some have reported issues with installing from DVD) is to copy the contents of both DVDs to a temp folder on your hard drive and start the install from there.
Copying DVD2 to the HD might be a solution. Unless data is somehow  corrupted on DVD2, but in that case, why did the original installation  succeed?
Thanks again for your prompt answers.

I am not able to install my 'Complete National Geographic' cd on my Mac mini which runs Lion OS. The error message I get says  'Can't open installer as classic environment is no longer supported' can some one suggest a solution.

It means the software is PowerPC code, which is no longer supported in Lion. Your choices are to go back to Snow Leopard, run Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine within Lion, see if the vendor has an updated version of National Geographic that will run on an Intel Mac, or run the software on an older Mac separately.

  • Initializing Installer... and then nothing in Photoshop CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5

Hello. I have a pretty big problem, I can't install Photoshop or Premiere Pro on my PC. I get to the " initializing installer " part, it fills to 100%, then the window simply disappears. What should I do ? My OS is XP SP3, and I have enough HDD space left - around 50gb in C: and 550gb in D:, so this isn't the problem. Also, I don't have any old installs of Photoshop / Premiere Pro on my PC. As for the windows, I've just re-installed it last week, so I'm sure that I don't have any viruses or stuff like that. One thing that I must mention - before I re-installed my windows, I was able to install both Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I hope you can help me. Thanks

Photoshop 32bit should, but Premiere Pro CS5 will NOT install on WinXP... PPro CS5 REQUIRES a 64bit operating system to install
If you really need PPro CS5, you will have to upgrade Windows to Win7 64bit... the Pro version is most used for video editing
If you bought a CS5 suite, Premiere Pro CS4 is included for those with a 32bit version of Windows

  • My mountain lion upgrade is take long after the initial installation finish it is showing increasing negative number like -50 munites remaining

My mountain lion upgrade is take long after the initial installation finished it is showing increasing negative number like -50 munites remaining while still saying installing os x on the disk.
I mean it starting saying time remaining about 6 munites
Now it up to time remaing about -55 munites
I thing something is wrong with this installation and all I did is fallow the onscreen instruction
    Thank

You might want to just manually power down your machine and, if necessary, start the installation process anew. You're unlikely to damage anything by doing this. It may have actually installed and is just hanging when it's supposed to reboot.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Rename a Data Integrator server after initial installation

Is it possible to rename the Data Integrator server after initial installation?

The easiest thing to do is running the server manager before the migration and remove the repository assoziation or the entire jobserver. Same with the management console.
    Then move the server.
And recreate the jobserver and webadmin entry.
In case it is too late for the first step, simply truncate AL_MACHINE_INFO table deleting all jobserver/webadmin links and then resync those.

It would normally restart in to Windows but if you need to do it manually you can hold the Alt key as the chime sounds and then pick the Windows hard drive icon.

  • HANA can't be upgraded. Initial installation is pending.

    Hi experts,
I have a question about HANA upgrade.
We use HANA DB revision 70.
When we tried to upgrade this HANA DB to revision 72, below message was appeared.
    "Systems which can't be upgraded:
       <SID> Initial installation is pending"
I checked the installation log and found the below message.
    Installation failed
    13:13:05.476 - ERR :
    error installing
    13:13:05.476 - ERR :
    Cannot create Instance
13:13:05.476 - ERR :Import of delivery units failed
    13:13:05.475
    - ERR :Cannot import delivery unit /home/sap/<SID>/global/hdb/auto_content/HANA_ADMIN.tgz
So I imported HANA_ADMIN.tgz using HANA Studio.
    It was Successful.
But I retried to upgrade this HANA DB to revision 72, same error message was appeared.
How can I solved this error?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

    Hi
    I have the same problem.
    SPS08 Revision 80
I used  HLM with explorer; I've got an error and only "Resume" was possible, So I canceled with "X"
and now "<SID> Initial installation is pending"
If I use hdbup or hdbsetup -> option upgrade the same error "...pending"
Where/How I can cancel this  pending installation? Reboot doesen't kill the pending installation!
    Thanks in advance
    Kind Regards

Stevew13872880 you will want to reference the same document.  If you do have any questions though can you please start a separate discussion as the original poster is using Windows 8.1.  It would be very confusing to attempt to discuss both operating systems in the same discussion.  You are certainly welcome to reference this discussion in the new discussion.

  • I can't get past the initializing installer part. It doesn't load whatsoever.

I double click the icon to begin installation and a window pops up that says Adobe Installer. It doesn't move at all and I have tried different wifis, disabling adblocker etc and nothing works.

As Mylenium mentioned correctly, your system info is required.
Until then, you may refer to the threads below if that helps:

Same problem here. Uninstalled old versions CS. Downloaded Creative Cloud Installer. Launched Installer. It said everything was installed (Creative Cloud for Desktop). Tried to launch CC for Desktop : nothing happens.
Then uninstalled CC Desktop, downloaded Installer, installed, launched installer, nothing happens…
    So tired of that unefficiency!
