Initialize the PXI 6602 Countercard for DIO Output in CVI

Hey,
can somebody send me a sample program (CVI) for the initialization of the 6602 Countercard??
I want to set a simply pulsetrain.

if you have installed DAQmx API or Traditional-DAQ API a variety of examples ship with the driver installation. They can be accessed the easiest way through the example browser of CVI. Go to Help >> Find examples and Navigate to: Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Generating Digital Pulses. Here you will find DigPulseTrain-Cont.prj, which demonstrates, how the device can be configured for continuous pulse train generation (defining frequency, duty cycle, etc.) and could serve as a good point to start from.

    The tutorial emphasizes that I need jdk 1.6 update 11 in order to setup.
    The newer release of wl server comes with jsk 1.6 update 14.
    When I tried to run:
    setup -jreLoc C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\jdk160_14
    no setup screen appeared.
    Next, I setup stand alone jdk 1.6 update 11 and add it to path,
    but setup -jreLoc C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_11 failed too, since no setup screen appeared
    So I uninstalled version 10.3.2, installed 10.3.1 to follow exactly the tutorial specs.
    Does one has to pay oracle consulting, in order to have an installation of soa suite up and running for development?

  • Is the PXIe-PCIe8361 adequate for this system? And external clock questions...

    Hi all,
    I have spent some time piecing together a system and I'd like a sanity check before pulling the trigger on this purchase.  The system will contain the following hardware:
    1. Chassis: PXIe-1078
    2. Controller: PXIe-PCIe8361
    3. 3 x PXIe-6363 (16 analog inputs each card, 32 digital inputs each card, all internally clocked @ 10kHz)
    4. 2 x PXI-6224 (32 digital inputs on one, 8 digital inputs on the other, externally clocked in "bursts" of 62.5khz)
    5. Labview software
    The three PXI-6363 cards will be responsible for  a mix of analog and digital measurements made @ 10 kHz, timed continuously by the onboard clock.
    One PXI-6224 will be clocked externally @ 62.5 kHz and will be used to collect digital data on a 32-bit port.  These clock pulses will not be continuous, but will occur in bursts lasting for 2ms every 20ms.
    The other PXI-6224 will be clocked externally @ 62.5kHz as well and will be used to collect digital data on an 8-bit port. These clock pulses will not be continuous, but will occur in bursts lasting for 2 ms at random intervals.
    My questions are:
    1. Am I planning anything that looks unreasonable for this hardware?
    2.  Should I expect issues with data transfer rates with the PXIe-PCIe8361?  I will be operating well within the advertised 110MB/s throughput of the device.  I plan to stream this method... NI Fast TDMS data streaming
    3.  I have only ever used NI cards for continuous measurements made by an onboard clock.  When I set up a task to collect data that is externally-timed, will the DAQ be expecting a "continuous" clock pulse, or will the system wait patiently for clock pulses to arrive at any rate (any rate within the spec of the card, of course)?

    1-As long as you put the PXI-6224  and the PXIe-6363 cards in the corresponding slots, meaning the express(PXIe-6363) in the express and the hybrid(PXI-6224) in the hybrid.
    2-I think you would  not have issues with the transfer rate.
    3-Your timing specifications sound reasonable to me, I think you will be fine.

  • Regarding NI PXI-6602 - How to route PFI_33 to a grounded DIO Line.

    The PXI-6602 card with the TIO chip seems to be very robust on counter and DIO pin assignments and routing, but I have found that counter 1 has a pin (PFI_33 -AUX IN (UP/DOWN) ) that has been troublesome.  I need to either route this pin to another pin such as a DIO pin set as an output and pulled LOW or be able to manipulate the pin to a low state when I setup counter 1.  This is to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum due to the PXI-6602 being cabled to a board with a PLD on it.  Any solutions on how to tie PFI_33 low?

    Looks like I'm heading down that path... We were looking to do it in software, but nothing has come to light.  Interesting enough, DAQmx has a good sub-vi (DAQmx Connect Terminals.vi) but I am dealing with code back from LABView 5 days utilizing Traditional DAQ.  Try writing a snipet utilizing both "Write to DIO.vi" and "DAQmx Connect Terminals.vi" and watch the error codes fly. 
    One option NI has offered was to re-write the DIO tasking in DAQmx instead of traditional... this maybe an option... but, wow!  That's a lot of code.

  • PXI 6602 shared DIO Counter lines

    Hi,
    I have a question regarding the PXI-6602. From the manual I see that some of its PFI channels are shared. If I wanted to use a counter to generate a timed pulse. Can I use the associated gate and source PFI as digital output lines without affecting the counter?
    Here's a concrete example: Let's say I'm using the counter 7 to generate a timed pulse on PFI 8 which is the CTR OUT. Can I simultaneously use PFI 10, which is listed in the manual as having possible signals CTR 7 Gate and P0.10, as a digital output? Can I simultaneously use PFI 11, which is listed in the manual as having possible signals CTR 7 Source and P0.11, as a digital output?

  • How can i find out the resolution and accuracy of PXI-6602 module?

    I have a 32 bit  8 channel PXI-6602 counter module.  PXI card is interfaced to PC with MXI-4 link. How can i find out the resolution and accuracy of this system.What is the maximum accuracy and resolution i will get from this system. Because optical signal to cmos conversion signal is given as a input to the counter.

    Were you referring to the accuracy of the count register or the timing clock? 
    PXI-6602 specifications can be found in the NI 660x Specifications.  The resolution of the count register is, as you’ve noted, 32 bits.  This corresponds to a maximum count value of 4,294,967,295.  As long as all of the edges are in accordance with TTL specifications, the accuracy of the count register is 100%.
    On the other hand, the PXI-6602 baseclock accuracy takes on the baseclock accuracy of the PXI CLK 10 signal.  Again, this is all found in the specifications.
    You may also want to check out the NI 660x User Manual – it contains a lot of details on the operation of these counter/timer devices.

  • Error when trying to use DO as "open collector" on PXI-6602

    When I try to configure a DO of my PXI-6602 as "open collector" I receive the error -200452 ("Measurements: Specified property is not supported by the device or is not applicable to the task."). This is completely mysterious to me since the PXI-6602 should have this feature and my code (see attachment) is practically identical to any of the numerous examples for this topic. Am I overlooking anything really stupid? (LV 8.5, PXI-8145RT) Cheers, uli

    Did you try setting DO.Tristate while the task is running? There are a few DAQmx devices that do not support setting DO.Tristate while the task is running, but I don't think that the PXI-6602 is among them. I don't have an actual 6602 installed but with a simulated PXI-6602 and DAQmx 8.9, setting DO.Tristate while the task is running does not error.
    Using external hardware is perfectly fine, and should also work for timing I/O (whereas using DO.Tristate would only work for single-point digital I/O).
    I don't see the text that you quoted in the NI 660x Specifications, so I don't know what context it was in, and apparently it has been reworded since then. Note that devices that support open collector output say "open collector (open-drain)" in their specifications; for an example, see the NI USB-6008/6009 User Guide and Specifications.

  • PXI 6602 interrupts

    I cannot configure a PXI-6602 counter to use Interrupts"
    "I am trying to collect data on 4 channels. Each channel uses a counter of the NI-DAQ PXI-6602.
    For the first three channels I use DMA by default.
    I have added this line of code for the fourth channel which uses counter 3, before I PREPARE & ARM this counter:
    Set_DAQ_Device_Info (device,
    ND_DATA_XFER_MODE_GPCTR3,
    ND_INTERRUPTS);
    but I always become a SetupError (-10600)
    I've tried several different things, also:
    GPCTR_Change_Parameter(device, ND_TRANSFER_MODE, ND_INTERRUPTS);
    but it does not work.
    I am obviously not setting the last channel to use interrupts correctly. Am I supposed to do something else besides Set_Device_Info? Is ND_PROGRAM initializing
    the counter back to use DMA?
    Any help?

    So I would recommend to download and install the latest NI-DAQ driver. After that it should work.

  • PXI 6602 pulsewidth timing?

    Using the PXI-6602 with LabView 8.5, is there anyway to get the time of when a pulse occurs?  Continuous pulsewidth reading is good, but just need time info also.  Essentially we need the function of cont. digital read, which we do on the PXI 6123, but we might run out of channels on that.

    Hi Beck,
    I would still recommend a period measurement if you are looking for times between rising edges. See the screenshot below from the NI-DAQmx Help which shoes the differences between these counter measurements.
    You can then add the period between rising edges from each subsequent an initial timestamp to get the timestamp of when that pulse occurred. This can then be complied into an array which can be written to a file.

  • Query on NI PXI 6602 Timing I/O Module

    How to configure the PXI 6602 Timing I/O module to generate frequency on 8 lines and measure the frequency using the same card?

    To me, the pinout is pretty clear so yes, the PFI lines and P1,P2 are related.
    I can't advise you whether you should get the board repaired or make do. My concern would be whatever caused the failure of P0 would also cause the failure of whatever port you moved to.

  • Invoice Split for same customer but for different output types

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a requirement from the customers. A new output type has to be created with reference to the old type and for this output type a new driver program and SAP script was created with reference to the old one.They wants  invoice split to be happened based on item level PO number. That was done successfully.
    This invoice split logic  was written in the billing routine  RV60C901(Customized).
    But now they came back with a issue that the invoice split  should be done  only if they use the new output  type but not for the old one. That means for the same customer for one output type invoice split should be done based on item level po number and for one output type it should not. How can this be controlled for a particular
    output type?
    This output types will not be used in the billing routine as the split happens at the sales order level. Is there any configuration that allows split for a particular output type.
    Please suggest me how to proceed???

    In the invoice split routine check if it is possible to find the output type making use of field symbols.
    Just check in debug if the variable for output type is available as follows:-
    (Program Name)variable name.

  • How do I calculate the max latency of a PXI 8135 (controlle​r) to PXI 6528 (DIO) output?

    We are using a PXIe- 8135 Controller and a PXI-6528 DIO module in a PXIe-1082 chassis.  We are sending DIO input and output commands using Powershell in Windows 7 on the controller.  Due to tight requirements I need to know what is the max latency from when the Powershell command is issued to when the read input or write output command will take place in the DIO I/Os.
    If this should be in a different Community Board Location please let me know.

    Hello dan_f,
    As the latency of Powershell and Windows are not tested, it is hard to determine the latency of your setup.  The latency from the PXIe-8135 to the PXI-6528 should be in the realm of nanoseconds.  The PXI-6528 does have a couple of latency numbers that can be found within the user manual on Page 24, and they are as follows:
    Minimum pulse-width for change detection - 150 µs
    Propagation delay - 65 µs, typical
    You may be able to do some testing to ballpark the latency of the controller OS/software side of the input/output commands, but depending on how critical this latency is to your measurements, you may want to look into using a real-time OS instead.

  • How to structure the DMA buffer for PXie 6341 DAQ card for analog output with different frequencies on each channel

    I'm using the MHDDK for analog out/in with the PXIe 6341 DAQ card.
    The examples, e.g. aoex5, show a single Timer  (outTimerHelper::loadUI method), but the example shows DMA data loaded with the same vector size.
    There is a comment in the outTimerHelper:rogramUpdateCount call which implies that different buffer sizes per channel can be used.
       (the comment is: Switching between different buffer sizes will not be used)
    Does anyone know what the format of the DMA buffer should be for data for multiple channels with different frequencies ?
    For example, say we want a0 with a 1Khz Sine wave and a1 with a 1.5Khz sine wave.  What does the DMA buffer look like ?
    With the same frequency for each channel, the data is interleaved, e.g.  (ao0#0, ao1#0; ao0#1, ao1#1, ...), but when the frequencies for each channel is different, what does the buffer look like ?

    The data is always interleaved because each card only has a single timing engine for each subsystem.
    For AO you must specify the number of samples that AO will output. You also specify the number of channels. Because there is only one timing engine for AO, each AO will channel will get updated at the same time tick of the update clock. The data will be arranged interleaved exactly as the example shows because each AO channel needs data to output at each tick of the update clock. The data itself can change based on the frequency you want to output.

    In your example, you need to come up with an update rate that works for both waveforms (1 KHz and 1.5 KHz sine waves). To get a good representation of a sine wave, you need to update more than 10x as fast as your fastest frequency...I would recommend 100x if possible.
    Update Frequency: 150 KHz

    Then you create buffers that include full cycles of each waveform you want to output based on the update frequency. These buffers must also be the same size.
    Buffer 1: Contains data for the 1 KHz sine wave, 300 points, 2 sine wave cycles
    Buffer 2: Contains data for the 1.5 KHz sine wave, 300 points, 3 sine wave cycles
    You then interleave them as before. When the data is run through the ADC, they are outputting different sine waves even though the AO channels are updating at the same rate.

  • How do I program a NI 6602 card to send trigger pulses, one at each output port, triggered by an input trigger signal, using only one counter for each output port?

    Hello,
    I have managed to program a NI 6602 card in LabView to send pulses on three different output ports, one pulse on each output port (with individually chosen delays) for each input trigger pulse coming on a separate input port. It is the DAQmx Create Channel (CO-Pulse Generation-Time)-VI that I have used for this, see attached code. However, this VI controls both pulse delay and pulse width, and therefore uses two counters for each output port (although you only specify one counter in the VI input signals), as I understand.
    In my application though, I only need to have the delay chosen, the pulse width can be arbitrarily short, and thus I should only need one counter for each output port. How do I accomplish to program this in LabView?

    Well you're welcome to do that--it will work just fine as long as you are configuring a start trigger.
    <rant>
    However, personally I really don't like putting multiple counter outputs in the same task.  I have seen so many people assume that the counter outputs would be synchronized due to having them in the same task when this is not the case (you need to configure a start trigger in order to synchronize the counter outputs even if they are in the same task).  This is the only case I can think of where multiple channels in a DAQmx task are not automatically synchronized.
    As an example:
    Running this on my PCIe X Series gives a measured 2 edge separation of 1 ms + {7.78 us - 10.11 us}.  This would likely be much worse on a bus with more latency (e.g. USB).
    The resulting output is close enough to what you might expect that it might go unnoticed, but really these counter outputs are not synchronized and it would be easy to glance at the code and not even think twice about it.  For the small amount of extra work on my end to create a separate task for each counter, it really clears up some ambiguity about what the counters are actually doing.  For me it's worth it.
    So again, for your case there really isn't a problem with having the counters in the same task since you are using an external start trigger anyway.  I have just gotten in the habit of avoiding doing this.
