Inside Battery Backup Box

Sorry if this is being posted in the wrong forum.  Does anyone know what the power consumption of the internal battery backup box is?  This is where I am coming from.  I previously had xxx cable (internet, phone, & tv).  When I had a power outage I did not lose anything as I have a ups on my lcd tv/cable box, and a ups on my computer/modem.  Most of my power outages last from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.  I was able to watch tv or use the computer until the ups gave out.  Now with FIOS, if the power goes out, I will only have telephone service, I assume that the modem and tv will go blank instantly even though they are still powered.  So, I was thinking of putting a small ups on the battery backup box to keep everything going.  Thoughts anyone?

I believe that the BBU uses around 34 watts. You should be able to plug the BBU into a UPS with no problem.

  • Battery backup problems during hurricane?

I'm wondering if folks lost FiOS phone service during the hurricane because their power failed and the FiOS battery backup ran out after eight hours. If so, what probelms did this cause: i.e. being unable to reach 911 or to check on relatives and friends.
Did you anticipate losing phone service? Were you able to use cell phone instead? Did the battery on that run out too?
    Thank you!

Just had a CHAT LIVE session about battery backup box beeping.
    Was told
"The battery only has a year warranty. Outside the year warranty we can no longer offer replacements. You could order a replacement here: https://fios.asurion.com or you may find a better option at a local hardware/battery store. "
Andrea T(07:27:44): where is the battery? did not know I could OPEN your equipment.
Josh(07:28:14): It is usually in a closet, basement or garage. Josh(07:28:19): You can open the battery backup box
If you follow the link, the battery is $46. This is my phone's backup battery not the battery in my SAAB! OMG Why not use a lithium that is easily found at any supermarket or drugstore?
Were you aware that we need to maintain VZ equipment every year?

  • Best Battery Backup for iMac 27"?

Just received my new iMac 27" i7.  I contacted Apple and they told me I don't really need a battery backup to protect the iMac but it's always a good idea.  So I am looking for an inexpensive backup to just protect the iMac and give me a few minutes to shutdown.  I have been reading about battery backups and from my understanding rating (va or watts) can be less than the iMac.  The only real difference is that the time to successfully shut down will be shorter.  Is this correct?  The 27" has a 340 watt power supply so I could get a 240 watt backup and be fine if I only wanted to shut down wilthout damage the iMac?
Any suggestions on what to get?  It's almost impossible to make an informed decision because of specifications like "pure sine wave output", "dirty backup power" and "constant voltage source".  I am totally confused.  Do I really need one at all?
    Thank you

Do you need to hook up the USB cable
You don't have to, but if you don't, when the battery runs out, your Mac will crash.
If you connect the cable and set the preferences to shut it down after a certain period of time, or when there's a certain percentage of the battery left, etc., per the pink box in the link provided earlier, it will do a controlled powerdown.
and install the APC shut down software?
No, do not install that.  It's been incompatible with Macs for several years.
Your Mac has the software already built-in.

  • Battery Backup APC vs. Belkin

    Hello...
Can anyone advise which is better for a battery backup for my PowerMac G5 (APC vs. Belkin)?
    Thanks!

My experiences with both Belkin and APC.
    Get an APC.
The belkin I had had to be disassembled to change the battery that they did not have a battery for that model.
I bought an APC. I found that after a couple of system updates it did not shut down the computer. They worked with me for weeks on a solution and were very helpful. The battery that they sent me to help resolve the problem was an extremely easy plug and use type of thing.
We found out that it did not shut down as the supplied software was not compatible with the later Mac OS updates. The told me to uninstall power chute. It turns out it comflicted with the mac power saver shutdown option.
Do no install power chute for Macs. Use the native power option under energy saver in system preferences. Select setting for and pick the UPS option. Then there are three shutdown options to use. I use the first by checking it and selecting one minute.
You will need to use the USB cable that comes with the APC unit.
The battery level will also show up. The battery level drops very fast even thought it had plenty of minutes left on battery. I have gone over nine minutes with my RS 800 unit and it did not run out of power. I have onlt the computer and monitor on battery backup.
The level drops to zero in about one minute but this is bogus and it will go much longer on battery. I pull the plug and this is how I test the unit. I do not know if APC has noted this problem with the Mac in their APC UPS boxes. They will not undate their software as fast as apple. It is not needed use the Mac OS options and it should work OK.
I have no idea if Leopard has made any difference in the native power option.

  • Heating problem and battery backup

Recently I bought a macbook pro (7 days). I am facing heating problem and its battery backup is also not good, 3-4 hrs, but company claims 7 hrs. What should I do?

For more on laptop temperature, look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1778
    Take note of this part:
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • Is there a log entry indicating the use of battery backup?

I have a Late 2013 iMac, 27" i7 780m running Mavericks 10.9.4 - Is there an entry in any of the System Report logs that shows whether or not the computer had to make use of a UPC battery backup?
I've experienced some of the same issues people have had with their system not waking from sleep, having to resort to using the power button to get things moving again. Today, however, we had a serious thunderstorm and when I got home the system was shut down (or possibly not wanting to wake from sleep - the iMacs have no glowing light like my old Mac Pro, so there's no way to tell if the thing is shut down, a "heavy sleeper", or what). I'm asking the above question because if the system ever does have to rely on the battery backup while I'm away I want a way to confirm the system is actually using the UPC and shutting down properly (via Power Management settings) and not simply getting knocked out by a power failure.
It's somewhat unrelated, but the not-waking-from-sleep issue factors into this because that problem seems to be unrepeatable under any controlled circumstances. The support documents starts with disconnecting peripherals that might cause an issue, but the problem pops up so infrequently (weeks apart) there's no way to know if a disconnected USB hub is the culprit or a red herring. Today, for example, I'm left wondering if my issue was a power outage (the UPC should have taken care of a safe shutdown) or if I had an iMac not wanting to wake from sleep.

Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.  Your backups are listed at the top, along with their sizes.  Note: this will only list your most current backup.  You may have your previous two backups available too but you cannot access any size information about them.

  • How to recognize the text inside a text box

we have a scenario where we are validating the text inside a text box. Actually, we are inserting a text matching test on a node.
    The scenario is like this:
When we open the screen it contains 6 text boxes.
We have to enter the text in the first 3 text boxes and save.
Then based on the entry the values are populated on the other three text boxes.
We have to validate the values in these text boxes , so we click and highlight the value.
Openscript identfiy the text box ,but it did not identify or recorded the values we have highlighted.
How to make the openscript recognize the values? Can we do it through menu options or else we need to write the code?
    Any help will be appreciated.

    I answer to myself:
Put all inside a PanelGroupLayout and set the layout to SCROLL.

  • I don't have phone, but the TV says I need to replace battery backup for phone?!?!?!

    Hello,
For three years, we've had Verizon Fios Internet and TV.  We've never had a phone.
Today, the contraption Verizon plugged in the wall (sadly, I'm not really sure what it is, and had forgotten it existed until today as it's tucked behind some furniture) started beeping and the replace battery indicator light is on.  Furthermore, when I turn on TV, I am greeted with this message:
    My questions are:
    (1) If I don't have phone service, why would I even have a battery backup (much less need to replace it) to allow phone service during power outages?
    (2) Since I have only internet and TV, can I safely go without replacing this battery?
    (3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then how do I get the thing in the wall to stop beeping every 30 minutes?
Thank you in advance to any responses.

You can unplug the battery in your optical network terminal (ONT) and the message needing to replace the battery will go away.  Verizon customer service did confirm the battery is only for phone service when power is off.
I was only able to find 3 links on the alarm / battery backup.  It looks like they never thought about people who did not want the phone feature and to silence the beeping with the battery removed?
I don't know how frequently my unit beeps, but I don't normally hear it because it is in my garage.  I don't know if it has a pattern to when it beeps; but when I'm in the garage, I sometimes hear a single loud beep for about 1 second.
I imagine the battery must enable the laser to function when the power is off besides supply power to the copper phone lines in your house for a line powered phone.  I would assume then that if one had a UPS to power the computer and router and a good battery in the BBU; then one could have an internet when the power is off too?  Verizon user manuals don't mention this, so it might not work?

  • How to get a photo inside the little box in the "Lower Third" Sports Theme?

In iMovie '11, in the Sports theme, in the Text page titled "Lower Third," how can I get a picture of a person inside that little box? That sports theme comes up/shows up at the box "Set Theme": Sports. They are all a fluorescent blue, very nice for name tags if I could get faces/pictures inside those boxes.
Important: Under :Windows" (in control panel) there is an option to click SPORTS EDITOR. I tried working with that. I tried to put a picture in one of those boxes, but the experiment failed.
    Any ideas?

just drag'n drop from Finder any (... 'any' : shouldn't be a 16MBit monster-sized pic, just a small one, look at the aspect ratio) jpeg into it.
    so, what exactly failed?

  • Coding in Smartform inside a Text Box

    Hi All,
Whether this code is correct inside a text box in a Smartform ?
    :/ IF &GS_NAME1& <> ''.
    <T2>&GS_NAME1&</>
    ENDIF.
    :/ IF &GS_NAME2& <> ''.
    <T2>&GS_NAME2&</>
    :/ ENDIF.
    Thanks in Advance ,
    Vivek K ..

You cannot use IF statements inside the smartforms text nodes.
In you case, you need to create two text nodes.
one to print <T2>&GS_NAME1&</>, in the condition tabs update the condition with field name GS_NAME1 and select <> option on Operartor column and value as Inital for the comparison.
Second to print <T2>&GS_NAME2&</>, in the condition tabs update the condition with field name GS_NAME2 and select <> option on Operartor column and value as Inital for the comparison.

  • HT1766 iCloud backup box locked up iPad. I push ok but nothing happens. Box just stays there?

ICloud Backup box appears in middle of screen saying, "This iPad hasn't been backed up in 3 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi. When I click the "OK", it changes colors like it's working, but nothing happens. So my iPad is locked up. It's plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi like the box said. I can't unlock or turn off. The sliders won't move because of the box in the middle.

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"
