Install_Check_1.6 tool and Solaris 10 5/09 panics after GRUB on Dell T7400
Hello anybody!
Apparently the Solaris 10 5/09 drop panics after the GRUB menu, for Solaris Installation. Similarly the Install_Check_1.6 Tool for Hardware Compatablity seems to do the same.
I can't capture the Kernel messages that appear on the screen. It goes too fast. I was able to see however that it points to SUNOS-8000-0G message. The system goes into an automatic reboot and hence if left alone continuously reboots;
Can anybody help on how to capture the kernel error messages during the boot period? My guess is that it may be a device driver compatablity issue, with what? I don't know. I am trying to update the firmware/bios but I doubt if that may change anything.
Does anyone have this problem. Is there a fix for this?
sam
All,
I check the BIOS versions and it seems that everything is the latest. Therefore I am basically stuck on T7400 Dell precision system Solaris install.
Does anyone have this similar problem. If I can bypass this device specific errors (I think that is what they are), and load the OS, I might be able to go in and patch it up.
Has anyone experience this with Solaris on T7400?
Please help

How to get tools and other bars back in view after deleting show-bar?
Hello Jouko.
You can go into View > Toolbars and select the ones you want to see. If you can't see the menu bar you can simply tab ALT on your keyboard (I think F10 works too) to show it. -
Linux install server and solaris 10
Hi,
I am trying to learn Solaris as a student. I bought a SPARC (Netra T105 UltrasparcII) server on ebay which requires a network install as there is no cd-rom, or keyboard.
I only have a linux box (like I said, I'm a stingy student) to use as an install server, there is a few tutorials out there to try and do this, but none for Solaris 10. I have been hacking away at this for days, but cannot get it to install. I have the sparc server using RARP and then getting the /etc/bootparams file and downloading the boot files, but it does not get to locating the jumpstart files or the install files (I dont know if I can install from the terminal using the keyboard (without jumpstart) - I have not got that far yet).
I always get this, like it cannot find the install directory, I was wireshark on the linux boot server and see loads of NFS traffic after the TFTP download, but cannot seem to see what part it actually at. I have a detailed log at the bottom from putty. Any help greatly appreciated.Cheers

/sbin/install-discovery: information: not foundHmm. That looks like the image file is corrupt. Can you pull the image from media again? Can you see if there's a /sbin/install-discovery file in the image (usually under Tools/Boot/root). I recall there used to be a problem with that file.
Linux box setup:
/etc/bootparams

Those are for automated installations.
TFTP setup from /tftpboot:

Export list for localhost:

/home/sunos_install *That looks pretty good.
You do have the option of running VMware on linux, and putting a Solaris 10 image on it, then using that VM as your boot server. But the problem you're displaying doesn't appear to be related to the linux server.

Qt QMake is missing - Solaris 11 and Solaris Studio 12.3

Development tools: Solaris Studio 12.3 - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solarisstudio/overview/index.html
Hi, I want to make Qt desktop applications for Oracle Solaris 11, and Solaris Studio supports Qt projects. However the binary QMake is missing.
Is it available somewhere?
Thank you a lot.

Edited by: 909513 on Jan 22, 2012 6:06 PMHere's what I used to compile up (I think) 90%+ of Qt 4.8.4. The configure step creates qmake and the compile rolls along until it hits a lot of non standard C++ code. But you get qmake out of it. The tarball is the latest snapshot of the 4.8.x git tree.
Caveat: It's being built using Sun Studio 12.3 and the stdcxx library from my package site, along with a bunch of dependant packages from there. I never got Qt 4.8.4 to finish compiling with webkit, the 3rdparty/javascriptcore/JavaScriptCore/* files are truly awful non compliant code and error out every step of the compile. Sigh.
Good luck

If you get this far you'll hit the dodgy code, but you'll have a qmake binary made. You can remove the -webkit option and it'll actually build qt I believe, but alas I need webkit

Dear Sirs,
We have Business Objects BI 4.0 and SAP BW 7.3.
Actually we are using Web Intelligence and BEx Query to reporting.
We have not Business Layer (Universe) between BW and BO because BO it's not supported to create universe (unx) on BW. So we create document in WEBI using BEx Query.
We want to use Xcelsius (Dashboard Design) 2011 and I was thinking that we can use query from universe to connect with BW (new functionality in version 2011). Can we? Or maybe we should to connect to BW using "Connecttion to SAP BW"?
We want to use Explorer (on iPad and iPhone), but Explorer requires universe (unx).
Is not possible to create universe (unx, because unv is not supported via Explorer) based on SAP BW, is it true?
We should we do, when we want to use Explorer with SAP BW?
Do I understand connection between reporting tools and SAP BW:
Crystal Reports - can I use cubes or BEx queries
Xcelsius - using "Connection to SAP BW"
WEBI - BExqueries or universe (but only UNV - old version).
Explorer - in my opinion is not possible
Analysis for OLAP - drirect to cube in SAP BW
Could you please comment.Hi
With the current version of the BI 4.0 SP2 BI Platform, one cannot create a universe (.UNX format) against BW using the OLAP connection. However you can create a universe (.UNX format) using the Relational connection (see OSS note: 1656905 - How to create UNX universe based on Business Warehourse InfoCubes). One limitation is the use of hierarchies with the relational connection.
Then you can create the Information spaces based on the universe (.UNX format) that the Explorer can use.
BO Reporting tools:
1. Crystal Reports for Enterprise = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) directly against the BW InfoCubes or Queries, if queries already exist in the BW system then you can leverage these directly (less time spent recreating the entire query in Crystal)
2. Xcelsius = you can use the BICS or Web Service or Universe to access the data
3. Web Intelligence = you can use the OLAP Connection (BICS)
4. Explorer = you can use a universe (.UNX format) via a Relational Connection
5. Analysis for OLAP = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) to either a query or InfoCube.
It is hoped that in Feature Pack 3 which will be released later this year, that missing functionalities will be delivered for BI 4.0.
Regards

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible:

*"View > Toolbars"

I am unable to use adobe reader xi. I have tried to use the clean up tool and re install the reader. That doesn't seem to help. I go to open the pdf file in the reader and the window will load but I am not able to do anything past that point. Almost as if the program freezes once loaded I never get a not responding error until I open the task manager on the computer.
Can you open Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Vista and Solaris 10, are they compatible?
I have attempted to follow dual boot guides found everywhere, but none tailor specifically to (or eve mention) Vista. This is a problem, because Vista does not use the same method of boot as previous versions of NT.
So far, in my many failed attempts at creating a Vista dual boot, I have experienced this:
When I install Solaris 10 on any partition (Solaris installs correctly and works great), and then attempt to install Windows Vista, Vista says all of my partitions do not meet its requirements for installation (that the drive is NTFS and at least 12 GB is all it tells me). Even after formatting, deleting, recreating, and reformatting a drive, the drive is still unusable. Only after deleting ALL drives, including Solaris 10, and recreating and brand new first partition does Vista allow me to install. If I create a partition that Vista allows me to use, and also a partition to use with Solaris, and THEN install Solaris, the partition that Vista liked can no longer be used!
When I install Windows Vista first (and it works fine) (which is what I tried first and reasoned is what I should be doing), and then install Solaris 10 on a partition (it installs correctlt and works great), I load up my computer and go into the GRUB bootloader. I can select Windows. However, when attempting to load windows, I get an error (in the Vista font by the way) that says my operating system cannot be loaded. When I load my Vista install disc, it cannot find any installations of windows, and it cannot repair the master boot record, saying something like the filesystem is corrupt. However, just as an experiment, I loaded Vista onto the former Solaris drive, and looked at my first partition. Every file was there, intact.
I have attempted this with Windows Home Premium 32 bit, Windows Business 32 bit, and Vista Ultimate x64. I don't want to believe that it's impossible to load Vista and Solaris simultaneously, I've seen as much stating its impossibility as I've seen documents telling me how to do it (<- cold irony).
As long as I can get AN INSTALLATION of Solaris 10 on my machine at the same time I have Vista able to boot, I'm fine, but I seem to have lost on all fronts.
Edited by: ZetaZeta on Sep 19, 2007 12:30 AMIn Solaris Express, this is not an issue, according to this weblog:
http://blogs.sun.com/moinakg/entry/solaris_vista_dual_boot_conclusion
For versions of Solaris Express prior to buid 70, this method was described for creating a dual-boot with the oh-too-picky Windows Vista:
http://linux.wordpress.com/2007/02/17/vista-and-solaris-express-dual-boot/
I am going to assume that setting up a dual-boot with Solaris 10 is similar to, if not the same as, Solaris Express, since the only steps specific to Solaris are the files I copy from Solaris.
I hope this helps anyone else with a problem similar to mine. -
I read the article on how to remove Bing; however, it does not show up on my list of installed programs and it does not show up in the list of extenstions under "Tools" and "Addon" yet it is installed as an extention to the right of the addlress line. It is not my home page. Help!!!

I suddenly have a "Bing" screen when I sign onto Firefox---and I want to get rid of it. The support section of Firefox says
1. "From the menu at the top of the Firefox window, seledt Tools and then select the Add-ons menu item."---but I see no "menu item" nor Tools, much less Add-ons.
2. "In the Add-ons window, click on the Extensions panel."---but how do I find the Add-ons window?
3. Find the Bing Bar and Search Helper Extension in the list and click Disable for each of them."---but what and where exactly is that?
At the top of the screen is only a Yahoo icon on the left and to the right of it a search box, "Web Search,", "My Apps," Yellow Pages," "Weather," "Updates," and "Skype." to the right of those there is a green cross saying "Add more apps. to your toolbar" and to the right of that a sort of gear shift looking icon saying "toobar settings."
So, in short, how do I get rid of the Bing screen and how do I access those Tools?
Thanks. To get rid of Bing Search Window..............
Click on View tab / Tools and un-check 'Search' (alias for 'Bing') -
My file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, and help buttons at the top of the screen are gone, along with my forward and back button.
For details of how to restore it, see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/menu+bar+is+missing
Once the menu bar is restored, you can use the Toolbars entry in the View menu to restore other toolbars such as the navigation toolbar. -
So I'm trying to make a logo that starts of with a scalloped square background. I drew this creating 4 lines with inverted arcs at the corners then grouped all pieces into one - a new shape. So now I need to color it in and this (should be a piece of cake step) is giving me a run for my money. Why can't a fill it in? I ended up freehand tracing it (badly) with the pencil tool and filling that in but that creates prob.s that you can imagine. Please help- someone!?!?!
Is this any use?
Do the whole thing with filled circles. Then Pathfinder (panel) Unite. -

SriyaInstall Windows first, then Solaris {not the other way round}. When Solaris installer detects Windows installation and prompts you whether to preserve Windows partition, make sure to select 'preserve' option. I believe Solaris installer creates appropriate GRUB entries for Windows and Solaris. Even if it doesn't, you can always edit the GRUB menu after the installation is complete.
Check the following web site if you need detailed instructions:
