First make sure that you are logged in as "root", or use su [root password] to be logged in as.
And then try all that things again.

I had a similar problem. Like you I thought that downloading the bundled JDK with NetBeans would be great but after trying the installation on two different machines thinking there was a problem with the machine I opted for downloading the JDK from the Sun site and NetBeans from their respective site. It worked like a charm.

  • Problems Installing JDK 7u2 Windows 64-bit

I've downloaded the Development Kit but for some reason it won't install. I try clicking on it and nothing...
    Help please.

The problem of installation of JDK 7u2 on Windows x64 is coming for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of JDK.... However, i have tried installing them on Windows x86 (specifically Win XP SP3 x86 on VirtualBox 4.1.8) and the 32 bit version of JDK seems to be installing just fine on 32 bit Windows.
I might be wrong here but maybe the problem is that the 32 bit code on the JDK 7u2 may contain some 16bit code and so the Windows x64 is not able to run it (x64 OS not backwards compatible with 16 bit code). However the chances of this is slim since this is an update and the JDK 7u1 both 32 and 64 bit versions were fine.
However if this might have happened, then it is also possible that the 16bit code is also present in the 64 bit version of JDK 7u2 and thats why both the versions are not running on Windows x64.
Hoping they fix the issue soon. I need to do some testing and programming on Java 7.

  • Installing jdk on windows 7

Forgive me in advance as I am completely new to this. In September of this year I'll be starting an ict degree with the Open University. I figured I'd get a head start by learning a bit of java. I have installed jdk (64bit) for windows 7 fine, and altered the path so that the javac command works ok from the command prompt. However, it still does not work as I am getting the following error:
error while writing.......a required privelage is not held by the client
The problem seems to be that the javac application (and presumably all the others too) needs to be run in admin mode. I edited the properties of javac, and now when i use it from the command prompt it works fine. Is there an easier way around this?

Looks like you are trying to compile in a directory where you don't have rights.
Like a JDK directory under \program files. If this is the case, work in a directory under your user profile.
Copy samples from the JDK as necessary.

  • Does 11.1.1.6 OBIEE simple install work properly on Windows 7 64 bit OS?

Can anyone confirm if the simple install for 11.1.1.6 simple install works normally on Windows 7 64 bit OS? I have run into a slew of issues including:
    1. hanging on the Create Domain. Stays at 0% for 2 hours and then fails
    2. Pre requisite checks do not work in a stable way (sometimes they fail and need to be ignored and other times they succeed)
I removed all Oracle software and tried a completely clean install (DB, RCU, OBIEE, etc)..I have my loopback adapter set and also have JDK.
Do we need to manually do the WLS + Software only to get this to work or does the Simple install actually work on Win 7 64 bit??
    Thanks.

According to the certification matrix, it should work: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.html
Check row 72/73 in Current System Certification. Also, what do the logs say about the errors you are facing?

1). Oracle 9i will be easily installed on these linux ?It will install easier on Oracle Linux than any other.
2). These linux distro is more or less same like other linux distros (eg: ubuntu, fedora) i means i do and install other utilities and software for other type of usages ??Since OEL is intended as an O/S for mostly servers, it may not include support for the very latest desktop / laptop hardware. It may not include consumer-type applications like MP3 players either.
3). I will not have to pay for any type of repo access or packages installation ???No, you are welcome to download, install and use OEL without any charge. You can get it from the edelivery.oracle.com site, or access it piecemeal at the http://public-yum.oracle.com web site.
If you want support or updated RPM packages since that distribution release, only then will you need to purchase a subscription.
So, use the original distribution RPM packages for free (edelivery or public-yum.oracle.com), only need paid subscription for updated RPM's or support.
4). I will be install other locally downloaded softwares ( .rpm, .sh. .bin) files like netbeans, amrok wiht avi and mp3 capabilities for playing video tutorials, open office, acrobat reader, flash, burning software, gimp, matlab and saas ??????In general, yes, you can install software intended for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux.
Check out the EPEL project (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL for an additional repository which may already have the extra software you are looking for.

  • JDK installation on Windows 8, 64 bit OS

    Hi,
I am trying to install JDK 6/7 on my new 64 bit Windows 8 OS. However none of the installation completes. Moment I click on the installer pop up comes with following message : "Java SE development Kit 6 Update 45 (64-bit) Setup is preparing the installation wizard which will guide you through the program setup process. Please wait "
I kept waiting for almost an hour or so for installation start but it dint do anything. I have tried with all the JDK 7/6 installer available but nothing works out. Is anyone aware on any such issue ?
    Thanks,
    Manoj

I got fail to install Java EE SDK too. Just received a popup message of missing JRE but tested ok at command console with proper path setting. I have just raised a new thread about my case. It was so poor why "NO" Oracle professional did support your thread for so long time?  .

  • Anyone succeeded installing Adobe Air on Fedora 10?

I just tried to install AdobeAir on my Fedora 10 GNOME system but got an error message:
Adobe AIR could not be installed. Either gnome-keyring or Kwallet must be installed prior
          to installing Adobe AIR.
But gnome-keyring is installed on my system:

       gnome-keyring.x86_64                          2.24.1-1.fc10                installed

       gnome-python2-gnomekeyring.x86_64  2.23.0-1.fc10                installed
so I don't know what to do next. I also can't find a Kwallet to install via yum (and am not sure that would work anyhow since I am not using the KDE desktop).

This does not make a difference.
    I did find this webpage:

which gives some suggestions about how to install Air on a
64-bit Linux distribution, but the information is out of
date, e.g., although Air evidently installs and works on a
64-bit Fedora 8 system, it does not on Fedora 10. The

they are not accessible via yum).

I'm sorry but this is not completely right.
Linux x86_64 uses the IBM JDK, only Linux on x86 and Linux on IA64 use the Sun JDK.

Trying to install as root gives the same result.
    Appreciate your help. Thank you.

The problem is that SELinux blocks executable stack usage. (The REAL problem may actually be that Adobe's binary allows for executable stack usage). I encountered the same error on 32-bit Fedora 12. To fix it:
    # chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
    # setsebool -P allow_execstack=1
    # ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
Hope that does it for you.

  • Installing JDK-1.4.2_05 on SOLARIS 8: `(' unexpected

    Hello,
I have problems installing JDK-1.4.2_05 on two SOLARIS 8 boxes.
The error occurs right at the beginning of the installation.
I start the installation as follows:
    -rwxr--r-- 1 sw staff 35253366 Sep 21 13:51
    j2sdk-1_4_2_05-solaris-i586.sh
    [root@sokrates /home/sw/BVB-3-Stuff/Jdk-1.4]# cd /usr
    [root@sokrates /usr]#
    /home/sw/BVB-3-Stuff/Jdk-1.4/j2sdk-1_4_2_05-solaris-i586.sh
    The error is as follows:
    Unpacking...
    Checksumming...
    0
    0
    Extracting...
./install.sfx.825: syntax error at line 1: `(' unexpected
    Done.
The error is the same on both machines.
Both machines run SOLARIS 8 (SUN-OS 5.8) with the latest J2SE recommended
    patches installed.
    Any help is highly appreciated.

This may sound a bit obvious, but are the two machines in question Intel machines? If I try to install this (Intel) package on a SPARC box, I get exactly the same error. Again, sorry if this sounds a bit obvious, but it's just a thought :)

  • New to java, having trouble with Installing JDK on Ubuntu

    Hello, everyone???
I'm try to install j2se jdk-1_5_0_15-linux-i586-rpm.bin on my Ubuntu Linux 7.10, I ran the self-extract file and everything just seemed fine. But when I get to setting the system environment variable , something must have gone wrong. I have read from books which say that I should set 'CLASSPATH=.:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/lib/dt.jar:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/lib/tools.jar'. But I can't find a 'tools.jar' file in the 'lib' directory. There is a 'tools.pack' instead of it.
When I try to test the installation with: 'javac --version', I got :
Error occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
I don't know why. Do anybody can help me with this problem?

I used the Synaptic version of Java. I don't like where it puts the JDK in a protected folder. I want development stuff in my home folder. The Sun download with the NetBeans is the best, IMHO. You put your install where you want it. NetBeans then slams the pathname with every javac and java you run. Works great for development. Then, becomes the FireFox problem -- the java plug-in. Because I'm AMD-64 I have to use the IceTea java plug-in.
Would Sun please, please write the 64-bit plug-in?
The last irritating problem you will have is running java from a Terminal. That takes internal links in your File System. You can do what NetBeans does: java -classpath=~home/desktop/jdk1.6.1/bin/myPrograms myProgram. Or, you can make SymLinks. I keep a bookmark to this topic from the Ubuntu Forums:
