Install solaris via jumpstart with 2 network interfaces

Hi guys,
I'm trying to deploy Solaris 10 on a LDOM , using Jumpstart server. The LDOM must have 2 network interfaces and 2 default routes. Here's the relevant part of sysidcfg file:
network_interface=vnet0 {primary
                hostname=aaaaaaaaa
                ip_address=aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa
                netmask=255.255.240.0
                protocol_ipv6=no
                default_route=bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb
network_interface=vnet1 {
                hostname=bbbbbbbbbbb
                ip_address=ccc.ccc.ccc.ccc
                netmask=255.255.248.0
                protocol_ipv6=no
                default_route=ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd
}After {ok} boot net - install, I get these messages:
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information.
Attempting to configure interface vnet1...
Skipped interface vnet1
Attempting to configure interface vnet0...

Reading ZFS config: done.
Setting up Java. Please wait...
Serial console, reverting to text install
Beginning system identification...
Searching for configuration file(s)...
Using sysid configuration file xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/sysidcfg
Search complete.
Discovering additional network configuration...
Completing system identification...and then unattended install stops and goes into interactive menu:
Default Route     Error for vnet1     ────────────────────────────────────────────────
  The route ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd could not be added at this time. If you     wish to     accept
  the route provided, the route     will be     added to the /etc/defaultrouter     file
  to be     used at     reboot.     If you choose not to accept your choice, you will be
  asked     to enter network information again for this interface.
      Accept Route
      ────────────
      [X] Yes
      [     ] NoAfter I choose "yes" , the installation goes back to unattended (automated) state.
Any ideas why installation breaks when adding second default route?
If I delete the line default_route=ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd, the installation is not interrupted.
Many thanks,
kido

Hello again,
First of all, if I delete the second default route from sysidcfg, the installation performs uninterrupted, but vnet1 is not brought up after reboot. I get a message like: vnet1 is not a valid interface name...or something similar...
Regarding multiple default routes now... As long as "man defaultrouter" and "man sysidcfg" state that multiple routes are supported, I would expect this to work...or at least I need a way of installing 2 NICs without human intervention...
I will try to use some post install script instead ( will create /etc/hostname.vnet1 and add second route to /etc/defaultrouter) and will let you know the results.

  • Installing Solaris via network

    A few days ago I have got an old Sun server (Netra 1125).
    I am fairly new to Sun hardware and I wonder if there is a way to install Solaris via serial cable and a TCP/IP network (I don't have a cdrom and I don't have vga or floppies).
    I have a Linux machine nearby. Can I use BOOTP or something like that?
    Can anybody point me to some documentation?

    solaris' network install is called "jumpstart"
    searching for "solaris jumpstart linux" on google provides some pages, in particular is this one that is pretty old (references sunos4) but should work... http://www.unixpeople.com/HOWTO/jumpstart_on_linux.html

  • BadRequest: Virtual machines with secondary network interfaces and virtual machines with no secondary network

    I'm trying to create an "ExtraLarge" VM with multiple NICs.  The New-AzureVM returns the following error:
    BadRequest: Virtual machines with secondary network interfaces and virtual machines with no secondary network
    interfaces are not supported in the same deployment, also a virtual machine having no secondary network interfaces
    cannot be updated to have secondary network interfaces and vice-versa.
    But I have no other VMs.  Or at least I did and then deleted them and all their disks.  The service has no deployments (either staging or production).
    Why is New-AzureVM complaining about a mismatch of VMs with and without secondary network interfaces when no other VMs exist?
    I have tried many things to fix this, including the deletion of ALL of my resources.  I have deleted and created the service many times, both with an affinity group and without.  I have a screen print of the -debug output if your interested.
    Thanks for the outstanding help.

  • Solaris 10 u11 : Is it possible to mix IPMP with vertual network interface

    Hi
    I have a system with 4 Ethernet interfaces , I'd like to try to have virtual network interface on two of them . then configure IPMP between each two.
    - Is it possible to mix IPMP and VNIC ?
    - online , I found posts about having vnic on solaris by creating additional interface file (ex, /etc/hostname.bge0:1 ) and also the IPMP create such interface?
    - How can I know which IPMP version installed on the system ? and how to know I'm reading the right configuration guide?
    - on what basis should i choose the type of IPMP for my system (Link-based or Probe-based)
    Thanks in advance
    HEBA

    Hi.
    IPMP can coexist with VNIC.
    IPMP - part of Solaris. So you not need check version of IPMP. Just read Docs for Solaris.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/816-4554/ipmptm-1.html#scrolltoc
    It's not clear what Vnic you plan use. Is it VLAN or just additional IP on interface ?
    For test address of IPMP you should configure interface like bge0:1 with additional options.
    Regards.

  • Solaris command to show all network interfaces in a server (plumb/unplumb)?

    Hi there,
    Is there a Solaris command to show all the network interfaces in a server
    (plumb/unplumb etc...).
    I have a V880 that has an eri0 on board, plumbed up. It also has a couple
    of ge0, ge1, and ce0, and a qfe card.
    ifconfig -a only shows eri0.
    (I am using something like "dladm show-link", but this is really for
    the link-aggregation).
    How do I show the remaining network interfaces?
    Thanks
    Tony

    You can see all installed interfaces by running 'grep network /etc/path_to_inst'. An example:
    grep network path_to_inst
    "/node@1/pci@8,600000/network@1" 0 "ge"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/network@1,1" 0 "eri"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@0" 0 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@1" 1 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@2" 2 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,700000/pci@2/network@3" 3 "ce"
    "/node@1/pci@9,600000/network@2" 4 "ce"
    shows, ge0, eri0, ce0 - ce4

  • Unable to connect to Mac Pro with 2 network interfaces

    The Mac Pro has 2 network interfaces. The first one is connected to a local network and the other interface has an external IP address (connected directly to the internet).
    What we want to be able to do is to connect to the computer from home through the external interface and then be able to run applications on it that access a server on the local network. But, from home it is showing "Offline" in the "Current Status" column. If we try to connect it fails.
    The thing I can't figure out is why I can access it from work on a different local network, using the external IP address. It works fine that way. There are no hardware firewalls that could be causing it. So either way, it is coming into the computer through the external adapter.
    I'm stumped... Maybe it's something simple that I'm just missing. If you have any idea how I can access the computer from home please let me know so I can try it.
    Thanks.

    Just installed TeamViewer and we're using that. Works great.

  • Issues when installing Hyper-V Platform with 8 network filters running

    Hi. This isn't so much a question as a solution in case anyone else has this problem.
    I tried to install Hyper-V Platform on Windows 8.1 Pro but it kept undoing changes after 93%.
    I had it previously installed on the same hardware so knew there weren't any limitations there. Some forums suggested running "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" followed by "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" but this
    made no difference.
    Eventually, I looked up a forums that suggested "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\MaxNumFilters" had to be set if a maximum of 8 filters were in use. So I created a DWORD entry with a value
    of 14 (maximum on previous Windows versions) but it still didn't work!
    I checked how many networks filter were active with this powershell script:
    get-itemproperty hklm:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network | format-list -property MaxNumFilters
    $children = get-childitem -path hklm:\system\currentcontrolset\control\network\"{4d36e974-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}" | get-childitem | where-object {$_.PSChildName -eq "Ndi"} | get-itemproperty | where-object {$_.FilterClass} |get-itemproperty -name FilterClass
    "Filter Count: " + $children.count
    "Filter List: "
    $children | foreach-object -process { get-itemproperty -path $_.PSParentPath } | format-list -property Description,PSPath
    Still 8 were active! I then read that Windows 8.1 should scale MaxNumFilters automatically so I removed MaxNumFilters from the registry. Finally, I uninstalled my Anti-Virus (Kaspersky in my case) then tried installing Hyper-V platform again and it worked!
    After that, I ran the powershell script again and it detected that 9 filters were running. It looks like a bug whereby Windows is not scaling up the MaxNumFilters properly when Hyper-V platform is installed.
    This might only be an issue with Kaspersky and/or if exactly 8 filters are running but I imagine there are many more conditions under which this might occur.

  • Install solaris via hyper terminal

    Hi,
    I just got my new ultra 5 box and I was wondering what type of cable and hyper terminal settings I need in order to get this thing rolling.
    The type of cable I used before was a null modem cable db9F --> db9F. Then I read I needed db9 --> db25. So I went out and look for db9 --> db25 only to find that there wasn't any male to male cables ... any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    IPv6

    Dear friends,
    I have the same problem...
    I have a VGA adapter in my sparc 5, but my 14" monitor doesn't show nothing (only a new MAG 17" but it's not mine).
    So, I switched to HyperTerminal.
    I made more than 10 Null modem cables, with all the options, but I could not see nothing and I cannot install my mchine.
    The explanation of the cable here, I didn't understand so good, albeit that, I make the cable but it didn't work.
    Does anybody knows what to do, step by step, or where can I read it?
    Thank you very much!
    Ilan.

    Hello,
    I am deploying Cisco ISE 1.2 in a distributed deployment and the requirement is to use external Radius proxy feature. ISE PSNs are designed to have 2 L3 NIC's, Eth0 for administration and Eth1 as client side facing NIC for Radius requests. I am interested to know would Cisco ISE in version 1.2 use Eth1 interface to send RADIUS  authentication request to external RADIUS Proxy server.
    Could not find above information in Cisco SNS-3400 Series Appliance Ports Reference.

    Thanks

    Thanks Ahmad for the reply.
    Cisco ISE uses standard RADIUS authentication and authorization port to send request to Exteranl RADIUS proxy. As per the interface/port refrence guide of version 1.2 this is listed that is causing a confusion :-
    Eth0
    Eth1
    Eth2
    Eth3
    Policy   Service node
    Session
    •UDP:1645, 1812 (RADIUS Authentication)
    •UDP:1646, 1813 (RADIUS Accounting)
    •UDP: 1700 (RADIUS change of authorization Send)
    •UDP: 1700, 3799 (RADIUS change of authorization Listen/Relay)
    External   Identity Stores
    and Resources
    •TCP: 389, 3268, UDP: 389 (LDAP)
    •TCP: 445 (SMB)
    •TCP: 88, UDP: 88 (KDC)
    •TCP: 464 (KPASS)
    •UDP: 123 (NTP)
    •TCP: 53, UDP: 53 (DNS)
    (Admin user interface authentication and endpoint authentication)
    In external Identity Stores and Resources it says Eth0 is used for (Admin user interface authentication and endpoint authentication), where under sessions it lists that all ports can be used for RADIUS Authentication and Authorization.
    I am not sure what I am missing to understand between the two if you can highlight that.
    Thanks

  • Smf / sometimes does not configure network interfaces in single-user mode?

    From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/14785
    When booting into single user mode, I often get a message
    on the console
    t_optmgmt: System error: Cannot assign requested addressand only the loopback interface is configured (lo0 inet, and lo0 inet6).
    The system's dnet0 interface is not plumbed any more. Configuration
    for the dnet0 network interface is via a static ip address; hostname
    in /etc/hostname.dnet0, and and ip v4 address for that hostname in
    /etc/hosts. This was a Solaris 10 x86 system, but the same problem
    has also been observed on Solaris 10 sparc, and the hme0
    interface.
    svcs -x in single-user mode reports no problems.
    Changing to multi-user mode by typing Ctrl-D still does not
    configure the real network interface.
    One thing that I've noticed is that smf's log file
    /etc/svc/volatile/network-physical:default.log
    is missing, when the nic interface was not configured.
    It seems that the problem with unconfigured network interfaces
    does not happen when I boot directly into multi-user mode.
    Why isn't the physical interface plumbed and configured when
    booting into single user mode on S10 b69?

    still domain name has't been set, i just wrote this, can anyone tell me how to find the domain name or create one. also the name server is just a fake, but how to find one. If i will be connecting my laptop to various IP whereever i go, so do i need to configure network setting again and again ? isn't there any auto network configuration so that i can connect internet where ever i go and let the system auto configure network settings like in windows XP auto IP configuration detect.
    7. etc/nsswitch.conf
    in this i can't see "hosts: files" but i could see rest of the details. so I inserted "hosts: files dns" in the third line and saved.
    I ran the following command in the terminal to find the details:
    #ypmatch host-name hosts
    ypmatch: the domainname hasn't been set on this machine
    (how to set domain name can anyone tell me?)
    #move/etc/netmasks: not found
    #uname -n
    HOME
    #cat/etc/nsswitch.conf
    cat/etc/nsswitch.conf: not found
    #domain name
    domain: not found
    #ypwhich
    ypwhich: the domainname has'nt been set to this machine
    #nismatch nameserver-name hosts.org-dir
    hosts.org-dir: Error in accessing NIS+ cold file.......is NIS+ installed?
    actually during installation i selected DNS type for network giving a wrong nameserver and domain got skipped later
    #getent ipnodes dns (no response)
    so all these things i did and found by seeing the forum guidelines. I can see the network connection has receivinh and sent packets seems to be working but can't browse internet, also can't ping a website.
    if anyone had the same problem but found the answer than kindly let me know. I am new to solaris but i am trying my best.
    awaiting reply from gurus
    bye for now.................

  • CRS-5008: Invalid attribute value: ce0 for the network interface

    Hi all,
    we try to install grid infrastructure 11GR2 (11.2.0.1) into Solaris Zone with shared network interface.
    We also modified scirpt racgvip, so it will be able to login (via ssh with key authorization) to the global zone and add or remove interface on zone. Script itself works fine.
    But it seems that orarootagent some how checks the interface, and returned error.
    In the log of the orarootagent I can see error:

    Does anybody know how the orarootagent checks for the network resource?
    It seems that there are some procedures (NetworkAgent::checkLink, NetInterface::sGetIpAddress) inside it. But the problem is that this file is binary.
    Or may be there are some ways to track how orarootagent checks?

    Is there anything I can do with it? Will appreciate any help!Is ce0 a valid interface on the machine? (has the global zone done "ifconfig ce0 plumb"?)
    Is the zone correctly configured (check output of the export sub-command of zonecfg)?

  • How to use Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface

    I am new to Solaris, in fact I just installed it. I assumed that I would be able to connect to the internet immediately, but that isn't the case. I have an HP a1610n media center pc, and it comes with an Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface. Do I need to install a driver to use this network interface?

    Can Solaris 'see' your device? this tool wil let you know. [Sun Device Detection Tool 2.1      |http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp]
    If it doesn't see the controller, there are links on the device detection tool page that should help you find a driver - if one's available - for your NIC.
