I cannot seem to install cs5 on my Mac Pro

Do you install as an admin user with full read & write permissions?

  • Trouble with CS5 off-line help install

    Hello,
    I can't access help files after having recently purchased and installed several copies of CS5 Web Premium.
    Here's the situation: military site with closed (non-internet) network needs CS5 to replace existing CS3 installation. Windows 32-bit. A stand-alone internet computer with cd-r drive is available, but I can't install anything on it. See the problem?
    I've already read a number of threads on this subject and all the relevant KB articles that I could find (including 84215 and 83703). I downloaded the PDF manuals individually (much later I found http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2010/08/help-documents-for- creative-suite-5-pdf-and-html.html, which points to all of them in one place - that should be linked from the support site). Adobe phone support could not help beyond suggesting download of the PDFs.
    My developers are used to being able to hit F1 and search help, specifically in Flash for ActionScript language reference. The external PDF manuals, while useful, are not an option for this purpose - just too clumsy.
    As I understand it, the first time Adobe Community Help is run, it can optionally download all html help files for offline use. Since I can't connect the development computers to the internet, I need to download an archive of those files from elsewhere.
    It seems like I need to either:
    a) Find a magical adobe.com page with an archive of the html help files that I can download
    -or-
    b) Go home and download (on my mac) the applicable portions of adobe.com and burn to CD
         (e.g. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flash/cs/using/index.html)
    -then-
    c) Find the appropriate file location to install these files on my development computers
    d) Update any TOC or preference files so that the CS5 apps will know that the files are installed locally.
    I could also just download the html files and put them on an internal web server, but this isn't preferred since then it wouldn't be connected to the CS5 apps, unless I can point them to an arbitrary web address for when my users hit F1 for help.
    It seems like this would be a problem not just for military users but for any company that uses development computers not connected to the internet.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Not sure if it's related, but in Flash Professional CS5 when attempting to request help from the menu I receive the following error:
    <Windows Internet Explorer>
    Cannot find 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/Common%20Files/Adobe/Help/en_US/Flash/CS5 /AS3LR/index.html
    I think that's after telling Community Help to work offline. In Photoshop, I get no such error, just a message that I need to access the internet to download help.

    Hi Jim:  you could try either approach (either hosting on your own intranet or copy the local help files to each machine). Here's some info that may help:
    1. the Help application relies on a small XML file called the Help Configuration file (.helpcfg). There is one for each product located in the user's Local Store.
    On Windows, look in C:\Documents and Settings\ * USER NAME* \ApplicationData\ chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1\Local Store\HelpCfg\en_US
    On Mac, look in USER NAME (Home) > Library > Preferences > chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1 > Local Store > HelpCfg> en_US
    2. The Help Config file tells the app two very important things:
    Where to look for online content
    Where to look for download content
    There are a few other variables managed by the file but those two are the most important.
    3. Open the Help Config with a text editor and look for the following property: baseUrl="http://help.adobe.com/"
    4. Now look a little further down in the file and you should see a number of "package" elements.  Each package represents a distinct help book (i.e. "Using Flash CS 5"). The path variable is where the online HTML is located. For example, path="en_US/Flash/CS5/Using"  
    5. Look further below and you will see a variable called, downloadContent. For example, downloadContent="client.Flash_CS5_Using_en-us.zip"
    6. If you put these three elements together (baseURL + path + downloadContent), you can parse the location for each downloadable help archive like so: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flash/CS5/Using/client.Flash_CS5_Using_en-us.zip
    So what does this mean for you? What you could do is manually download the help files and host them on your own intranet -- you can then alter the baseURLs in the Help Configs to point to your own server. This would require editing each and every HelpConfig file so this may not be scalable for a very large team. 
    Or, you could go home, fire up the Help app, download the Help content outside of your network and then copy the entire Help folder back into the Local Store for each user. The app will automatically default to local Help if it cannot detect an internet connection so your team should be able to access just fine as long as the files are in the Help folder of your Local Store. No additional edits to the config file required. 
    For your convenience, here are a few additional package URLs relevant for the Web Suite - these are the default packages that a user is prompted to download on first launch. There are many other packages defined in the help configs so there may be additional books relevant to your team.

  • Please help with CS5 "Help" problems

    I installed Photoshop (V12.0) and Dreamweaver CS5 yesterday  -  8G Memory  Win 7 Pro 64 bit with Kaspersky 2011 IS which I disable during downloads
    I cannot access "Help" in either - I get the message "... cannot find Adobe Air - please download from adobe.com/go/getair"
    I've attempted this many times but get the message Air already installed but, I cannot find AIr anywhere in the Registry. I've also failed to install thedownloaded  upgrade to Photoshop 12.0.1. I seem to have downloaded Adobe Flash OK.
    I've gone almost mad trying to get to the point where I could actually post to this forum, hope next time the journey here will be shorter.

    Adobe AIR normally appears at or near the top of your Programs and Features list (within the Control Panel).  I take it it's not there for you?
    Did you try to install the Photoshop 12.0.1 update directly from Adobe's installer, or did you fail the automatic update?  If the latter, try this link:

  • Having trouble with CS5 tech support in India: want to contact US support or customer service

    I am sorry to post this question, but I have tried everything else I can think of to solve my problem. I think that I am suffering from a minor bug in updater. When I run it, it seems to install everything except Embedder 3.1[sic?]. I called tech support to report the issue. I reached the service center somewhere in India. A very polite individual ran me through an extensive (over an hour) series of diagnostics, including uploading a log of my problem. He had no solution, but said it was not either my hardware or software. I figured that the bug would be reported, and Adobe would get back to me sooner or later with a fix.
    Unfortunately, the service center does not seem to have a procedure in place to deal with a problem for which there is no known cause, or solution. Three days later, I received a follow up call. Another hour on the phone, running diagnostics. Same result as before. Three days later, another call from a level 1 tech support representative. Same questions. At this point, I requested to speak to a supervisor. A week later, I tried to explain to the supervisor that they needed a procedure to programmers, or someone who keeps track of unsolved bugs. Guess what, I'm getting called again by level 1 tech support, with the same diagnostic routines. Speaking of infinite loops.
    No one will put me in touch with someone at Adobe, in the US, to whom I can report the procedural issue. I really appreciate the follow up, but the pointlessness is driving me crazy. If I decline to run the same diagnostic for the fourth time, they want to close the case. I have been using some of these products since Photoshop 2. I am at least marginally competent on a Mac. Can someone tell me how to contact Adobe in the US to give a real live person feedback on what I perceive to be a procedural problem. Every number I try puts me back in India. Finally, and with all due respect, most of the representatives, while very polite, have trouble speaking and understanding English (especially colloquial English words like "sure", "OK" and "right").
    Bottom line, I would like to speak to someone in the US about the tech support service. Their effort is good, but the results are driving me crazy.

    I realize this. When calling prepaid cus service it only gives you the option to input your #. If you dont the system hangs up on you. When I input my number the system doesnt recognize it and hangs up on me.

  • FTP problems with CS5 - Help please

    I volunteer helping charity and education organisations with their websites.  One of my clients has just bought CS5 - I personally am still working on CS3 - so when I went to help them download their site first of all the set-up was quite different (why do companies fix things that aren't broken), but I got over that issue and managed to connect to the site, download and make a couple of changes. All was well!
    Two days later I went back, because they were having problems and I couldn't connect to the server.... Well, when I was on the main Dreamweaver screen  the computer said it was connecting and made all the right moves uploading files etc, but nothing on the website changed, so goodness knows where the files were going.  When I went onto the screen showing local and remote files, on the server side there was just a message saying you can't upload unless you set up a control version and the little blue plug was just greyed out.
    I don't want or need to set up a control version as it is just one person dealing with this site from one computer.
    As this is the first time I have come across 'subversion' or SVN I am a little confused. I have sent an email to the hosting company to make sure it is not a problem with their server, but won't get a reply until Monday so I thought that over the week-end I would just ask all you out there....
    Help!!

    DW is more than capable of managing your FTP tasks on its own.  Please tell us - when you connect to the remote site and then LOOK at the Remote side of the Files panel, what FOLDER names do you see?  As an ancillary question, what do you have in the Root Directory field of the Remote site definition?

  • Final Cut Studio install - Trouble with DVDSP 4 Preferences & Burn / menus

    Hi there. I recently upgraded my dual G5 to Tiger and upgraded my FCP 4.5 & DVDSP 2 by installing a full version of Final Cut Studio.
    Final Cut is working fine. DVDSP is not. It opens fine, however when I choose to open the Preferences to setup format (PAL) and encoding prefs, etc - I do not get a dialogue box. If I try the shortcut, I see the menu bar light, but again no dialogue box.
    I tired to build a new project with compressor encoded mpeg2 & aiff streams and found that Burn / Build & Format are greyed out in the menu. I know that the file types are fine as I have used them before without any issues. I checked to see that the correct serial number is for FC Studio and it is. I have also ran all of the updates.
    I also find that Compressor is often a little buggy. Sometimes works fine, other times crashes.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    I really do not want to reformat by reinstalling Tiger fresh. I am thinking about trying to delete all of Final Cut Studio and the older FCP & DVDSP apps on my machine.
    I would really appriciate some advice beofre I get myself into any mess!

    I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to David S.!!! I DL'ed & installed the update you mentioned. After a restart, DVDSP 4 is now working fine. The update resolved my preference & burning & building issues. I am very HAPPY to have a reprive from a fresh install.

  • USB2.0 Install Troubles With WinXP and KT3 Ultra2?

    I installed WinXP (Fresh) on my system with the KT3 Ultra2 board in it. I had ACPI (Plug and Play OS Installed) turned OFF in the bios, and I have all 6 USB ports enabled in bios (legacy support off).
    Upon installing WinXP and the SP1 full update (~130mb file I believe), I check the device manager to see what was up so far. I had several yellow exclamation marks, but two of the three were expected (onboard audio and my video card had no drivers yet). But the third one threw me... Under "Other devices" I had "USB Host Controller" listed....
    So I installed the Via 4in1's version 4.43 using the "quick install" option. Check device manager, same result. Mr. Steveo suggested I try right clicking the controller in the device manager and choosing to "update driver". I did, and it automatically updated the driver and placed it in the USB section of the device manager (with the other USB entries).
    The problem is, the device name seems weird: "Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" instead of something like "USB2.0 PCI to USB Host Controller" or something like that. The yellow exclamation mark is gone, but I just dont know if this is the correct device setup or not.
    Can any of you other Ultra2 owners tell me if this is what you have in your USB controller list, and if not, how did you install WinXP to get to the point where you had the "correct" listing? Maybe it makes a difference whether ACPI is turned on during install or something?
    I tried to run the Via USB2.0 driver file (7011Kb) from the MSI site to see if it would help, but it quits the install and says that the SP1 update drivers are newer and should not be updated with this driver.
    Any suggestions or comments are very much appreciated.

    Hi, yours is 845E MAX2 motherboard, you should use Intel USB2.0 drivers .

    And don't use "search for new hardware", instead you manually point the drivers location to where you extracted the downloaded file. Sometimes WinXP drivers search is "blind"  8)

  • Trouble with Titles - Help!

    I am a little bit familiar with iMovie b/c I'm using it for a technology class I'm taking in grad school. I am working on a project now and I'm having no luck inserting a title over a video clip. When I try to move it to the timeline, it just adds another clip with the title in a black screen. It does this even when I uncheck the "over black" option. But, when I select a video clip, the 'update' button is grey (won't let me click it). Does anyone know what to do? The preview works, just not the update button. If someone could help, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions.
    Try this:
    Place your playhead at the point you wish to have the title. Be sure the clip is selected. Command-T to split the clip at the playhead. Now drag the title onto that split clip. It should work fine. You cannot use the 'Update' button until you have placed a title on a clip. After the clip is titled, if you select the clip and want to change the title, you can use the 'Upate.'
    Post back if it does not work.

  • Trouble with CS5 InDesign Paragraph Styles

    I am creating a new template. I want one style to be "TOC Title", and another to be "TOC Level 1". All my concerns center around the Paragraph Style Options window (Type > Paragraph Styles > Create New Style >(double-click style to modify)  )
    1. No matter what I do, if I stipulate that "TOC Level 1" has leading (Tabs option, enter a "." or period in the Leader box), then InDesign does this for ALL my paragraph styles.
    For the record, under the General option, my "Based On" box is set to "[No Paragraph Style]" for both paragraph styles.
    So either I have to live with the TOC title having leading on it, or the TOC Level 1 having none, and in either case having to do something manually to the TOC everytime I use the template.
    How can I fix this so that TOC Title has no Leader and TOC Level 1 has a Leader of "." ?
    2. How can I set my TOC Title paragraph style so that it centers on the page?
    Edit: Two days later and no reply - I would have gladly supplied more information if I did not make the issue clear enough, and I would have even appreciated a simple "Sorry, I don't know." Since it is highly improbable that nobody out there knows ANYTHING about Paragraph Style tabs in Adobe CS5 InDesign, I must conclude that my issue is simply not "in" enough to be considered worthy of attention from the unnamed scores of elitists which must run this forum.

    I think the only way I'm going to be able to understand the problem is to see a sample file. Please make a sample, even if it has nothing more than your style definitions that are failing, and post a link to it here.

  • Can I still have older versions of CS installed along with CS5?

    I need to continue to do some work in older versions of CS as per client's request. So I was just wondering if I can keep older versons of CS installed on my MAC at the same time I have installed CS5 and will they run OK.

    I currently have premiere cs4 and cs5 installed and have had no problems. I have noted on the forums here that some people were reporting problems. So the only way to realy know is make the plunge. I'm running win 7 pro.

  • Recent install -- trouble with KDE -- tmp directory solution?

    I recently installed Arch and got KDE installed, but could only logon to KDE as root. I found that the /tmp directory appeared to not give regular users any rights and did a chmod on the directory.
    Now I am curious if I needed to do that or if there may have been some other issue -- what are the proper rights settings for the tmp directory?

    Yes. Either do "chmod +t /tmp" or "chmod 1777 /tmp" as root -- both should accomplish the same thing.

  • Trouble with Dreamweaver HELP

    Dreamweaver isn't allowing me to insert a table however if I
    type in the HTML code for the table it will allow me to edit it. I
    have inserted it in the past, I go to INSERT>TABLE and nothing
    happens. Do I have a setting problem? I am very new to this so
    forgive me for my ignorance.

    Go to View > Table Mode and make sure that Standard Mode
    is selected.
