Insyde H2O BIOS is too simple

I have just purchased an Pavillion DV6 7014nr. Nice machine but the BIOS is a REAL disappointment. Firstly, I am not running Windows, so being able to tweak the BIOS is useful and sometimes required. I was dismayed to find, that the BIOS on this box does not expose any of the important features. In particular, I would like to see
- SATA mode options
- Option to select the default graphics card. For those of us how do not want to use Windows it's almost impossible to use the GeForce ard. It would be real nice if the BIOS were to allow the selection
I hope somebody from HP sees this and takes note (unfortunately in these days of "customer no-service", the "Contact-Us" button is nowhere to be found....)

i bought a dv5 a while back, maybe in 2008 or so, and that BIOS exposed quite a few more optios if I recall correctly. That's really too bad.
Any idea whom at HP one could send this complaint to directly?

  • At 60 and totally confused w/version . Not  clue with how to use it and how to change it. My question - If a new version of i-tunes can be offered why not the older version as being a choice? Too simple or just impossible to do? I hate to drop i-tunes.

At 60 years of age and totally challenged by todays technology I find it impossible to understand i-tunes Version 11. Don' ask me to try to try go back to a earlier version ( as much as I would like to). I have read some of the advice given, as well as intended as it is, I don't understand the process. I don't want to drop i-tune but I will. I am sure my library is not as large as many others who use it but it is just as important to me. This really saddens me.
I do have two question if some one can help me. First, someone mentioned that if I go to previous restore point this might correct it. Yes or no? Secondly, if Apple can offer us a new version to download why can't they offer an older version to download. Too simple or impossible to do.

You can still drag and drop a song into a Playlist, in the same manner as before. Simply use the left-click of your mouse to select-and-hold the song (left-click-and-hold, don't release the click) and drag it to and then drop it (release the click) into the Playlist you want. (You cannot drop it into a Smart Playlist, you can only drop it into a Regular Playlist.)
... and here's a screenshot dragging the song "Lazy Orbit" into the Regular Playlist "Sat 4th June 2011". A small + symbol also appears in the drag, but it doesn't show up on screenshots. If the move is forbidden, a red slash through a red circle appears instead of the + symbol.
As for the Albums thing; in the Column Browser, right-click anywhere in the Column Browser header (see my screenshots in my previous post) and a menu appears. Deselect Albums on that menu to remove Albums from the upper Columns:
... and for the columns underneath (with the songs list etc.), right-click on that header bar and once again, deselect Albums from the menu that appears. The Albums column will then be removed from the lower columns list.

Well, my advice to you is: do not think about what you think iTunes cannot do, instead, think about what you want to achieve - and then work out how to achieve it.

  • How to get past the Insyde H20 BIOS lock on DV7

I have a DV7 w/Intel Centrino2 and Windows Vista (64).  Unit all of a sudden is "locked" into the BIOS and will not get past it.  The unit has the Insyde H20 BIOS utility, but I do not have the Insyde setup utility CD.  How do I get past this lock and do away with the Insyde BIOS?

I also had this problem. Read these instructions CAREFULLY before taking action, or everything will be ruined. To get past this screen, select Set Up New iPhone.  After that, it will bring you to the iTunes store screen. At the top of the screen there will be a loading bar. At the end of the bar, there should be an x for cancel. Press it, and it will stop iTunes from deleting all of your data. It will no longer bring you back to the welcome screen once you have done this.

  • Arch is too simple

Arch is so simple it defies bugginess!! I haven't had to do anything but run pacman -Syu to maintain this thing for the past year!! What is the world coming too???
I even ran the pacman roulette and nothing (visible) broke!!
So....anyone got any scripts that need writing?

  • IWeb too simple? Get Freeway!

For those who think iWeb may be too simple, please have a look at Freeway 4, either Pro or Express. Think of it like iWeb Pro, or more like Indeign/Pages/Photoshop in one program!
    I've made 3 tutorial videos:
Image editing with Freeway - 30 mb
overal use of Freeway - 28 mb
image output options - 4 mb
Please note, the server is not too fast unfortunately!
    powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I'm starting to think it is a bit too simple myself.
I have a web page that i built with Yahoo
Sitebuilder on my PC, but i just switched to Mac.
I'm getting ready to build my website over again.
Can i use iWeb and upload it my Yahoo account? Can
this be done with iWeb or is it meant only for .Mac?
You can do a search for that topic , it's been covered.
I believe you can host on another server rather than .mac, but you have to publish to a folder on your hard drive first.

  • Recovering bios Insyde H2O in G780

    Hi
Became a very bad thing ...
When I did update the bios to win eight, hung application ...
Now when you start the computer is just a black screen and lit up the power and the drive and the LAN or flashes.
He wrote to you because I ran out of ideas found in google.
Fn + B, Fn + R the laptop reboots combinations of loads of whirling fans, but do not want the LED on the USB flash memory (tested SanDisk 2GB Cruzer and Kingston DataTraver 1GB) both formatted in FAT.
I was doing the following instructions
    Description 1
    Description 2
    Description 3
Does anyone have any other ideas for saving my G780?
    Regards
    Daniel

Sounds like you have a corrupted bios on your system. If you are still in warranty call lenovo support. If you are out of warranty here are the instructions to create a bios recovery on usb.
    1. Download the bios file from lenovo BUT DO NOT RUN THE FILE!!!! DON'T!!! YOU MAY BRICK ANOTHER MACHINE!!!
    2. Download 7zip and install it
    3. Right click the bios file and go to 7zip and extract it
    4. Find the bios file that has .wph on the end
    5. Download Phonix Crisdisc recovery
Link to phonix crisdisc recovery http://www.sendspace.com/file/lnq1oi
    6. Move bios file to crisdisc recovery once extracted
    7. Grab an old 1gb usb stick and format as FAT
    8. Run the program and select the usb drive that you formated
    9. Go to laptop to save it
    10. Insert USB stick on the RIGHT SIDE
    11. Unplug the battery and power
    12. Hold Fn key and B key
    13. Plug power in with those keys held down
    14. Push power button once
    15. Keep holding Fn key and B key at the same time untill it beeps
    16. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR COMPUTER OR PLUG ANYTHING IN (INCLUDES BATTERY)
    17. WAIT FOR 5-10 MINUTES
    18. YOUR COMPUTER WILL HAVE ITS FAN ON FAST AND WILL BEEP OCASIONALLY
    19. WAIT FOR YOUR COMPUTER TO BOOT INTO WINDOWS ONCE DONE
    20. You are done.
Let me know of the results!

As long as the Firewire hard drive is a bootable drive for Mac OS X it should work with the Migration Assistant. These two companies offer that kind of drive:

  • K8N Diamond SLI has hidden BIOS options too

Just having a play with my new Diamond K8N SLI and found it has a set of hidden options in
the BIOS, much like the NEO/NEO2 boards had.
    IDE HDD Block Mode
    Mac Media Interface
    NV/ATI Speedup
    NV4x Memory Speedup %
    NV4x Core Speedup %
    Add NV4 Memory Clock
    Add NV4 Core Clock
    PCI Clock Auto Detect
Usual way to get into it... go into BIOS at boot up.
    Press
    Shift F2
    Alt F3

Thanks for the info.  How are things running?  Have you done any benchs?

  • 970 Gaming - BIOS resolution too big for screen so can't use it, help!

    My specs, Windows 7 SP1
    MSI 970 Gaming MB
    AMD FX-6350
    ASUS Radeon HD6950
    G Skill DDR3 RAM (16gb at 1600mhz)
    1TB Sata HD
Everything else display related works fine, windows, games, videos, etc. and as this is a new build, yes all the drivers are upto date. However, I can't use the BIOS as it displays as if its four times the screens size!
I've taken a pic to illustrate the point and attached it,
And here is of course, what it should look like for comparison,
As you can see, not only is the res' totally wrong, but some graphical elements are not displaying properly, like the lack of the red border, button surrounds on the left, boot devices missing, etc. Any ideas please?

Not every TV acts the same unfortunately.
My one samsung LCD TV looked better using a VGA cable than HDMI (no idea why, it just did), meanwhile the next Samsung LED TV I got looked much better with HDMI but had strange issues whenever I went into the BIOS (this was from a laptop though).
Expecting a company to solve a problem with a TV that doesn't properly implement the HDMI spec is a bit ridiculous to be honest.

  • Copy Images: Too simple?

Ok, just spent several hours selecting a group of images from numerous directories. Now all I want to do is to copy these 150 images (Quick Collection) to an external hard drive.
Must be missing something, as drag/drop doesn't seem to be an option, and "Export" prompts me for Format, Quality, Color Space, Resolution etc. etc. I don't want to convert anything, I just want to move all these selected images to a new directory on this external hard drive.
    What am I missing?

    >"But to get back to my initial (and remaining issue) the only thing I want to figure out how to do is, after spending hours coming up with a custom selection, copy these files to an external hard drive or a folder of my choosing on my internal drive. "
    >"This has got to be DAM 101 stuff? "
I think the problem at this point in LR's development is that it is not a system-folder based DAM. LR is a black box - you import files into it and export files from it. During the Betas, LR did not organize imported data using a "folder" paradigm, it used "shoots". Now, it imports and maintains a folder structure that parallels the system's folders, but don't confuse this with a file browser. It just keeps a parallel universe of folders internally. At this point, LR does not "watch" its folders for changes in the system folders.
Inside LR's black box, you can move files from one LR folder to another, and LR will also move the actual files on disk. But you are asking it to "copy" which 1) doesn't follow the LR philosophy of maintaining one unique master file in its system, and 2) if the destination of the copy is outside the LR folder hierarchy, then LR can't handle it at this time.
Considering Adobe changed from shoots to folders from Beta4 to version 1, I expect the DAM functionality to be limited at this time. I would hope that in the future Adobe will extend its current LR folders vs. system folders to more closely match system folders. If they were to do this, then we'd have a better chance of getting watched folders and performing system file management. I would suspect that this is not as easy as it appears, since LR is tied to a database. Everytime you change folders and the files they contain externally, LR would have to do a lot of work to bring the database up to date.

  • Ethernet to wireless computer-too simple a solution?

Problem: old G3 iMac with Airport card gets great signal (15/15 pips) from AEBS. Next to it, newer iMac G5 with Airport card gets horrible signal (don't ask- hours of phone support and at Apple repair fail to find the problem- a problem featured in another post). Apple repair sending back G5 without a solution, and it is unuseable due to it's poor AEBS reception. Wife and kids very unhappy. Myself unhappy.
Question: Since the G3 gets such a great signal, could I just plug the two together w/Ethernet, so that the G5 gets it's signal from the G3? If so, does the G3 need to be awake (vs asleep, as the aging beast often is like an old cat)? What settings in Preference panels for both to set? Or should I bite the bullet and get another AEBS or Express to boost the signal. Thanks in advance,
    Jonathan

Question: Since the G3 gets such a great signal,
could I just plug the two together w/Ethernet, so
that the G5 gets it's signal from the G3?
    Yes
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
Share internet from Airport via Built in Ethernet
    If so, does
the G3 need to be awake
    Yes
    Or should I bite
the bullet and get another AEBS or Express to boost
    the signal.
No work out why the iMac G5 is getting a poor signal, if the G3 can get a good signal, then it is not a signal issue.

  • When is too simple, reasoning not to use Java?

I wish to write a small program which gives the user 6 or 7 options. When the associated radio button is selected, a different executable file will be executed.
Is this overkill to script this with Java? Should I be simply writing a batch file for this operation?
    Advice please.

be simply writing a batch file for this operation?Depends on which you know best, which technology will let you get it done fastest, and who's going to maintain it after you're done with it. AND which would be the most short-term fun.
If "batch" means Windows scripting language, I'd say that's a poor choice.
Who really cares? A small app like that won't be hurt much by using a solution that's less than optimal.

  • [SOLVED] Mouse/laptop freeze on the "2nd" resume from sleep/standy.

I've install Arch on my Alienware M14x R2 and everything works fine except this single issue. If I need to close the laptop lid and let it enter sleep, it does so fine and resumes perfectly. But, if I don't reboot the laptop and have to close the lid for a second time its ALWAYS freezes on the 2nd resume. The mouse pointer does not respond and the keyboard as well. Even tried external mouse and nothing.
I've searched the forums for hours yesterday and saw similar complaints for those running XFCE. So lastnight I re-installed Arch with Kde-meta and tested resume a few times and it was working just fine. Then just resumed the 2nd time today and notice it again. Now the only thing related I can think off (hope this does not throw things down the wrong direction) is that I saw a "Nvidia X Settings" app in the start menu under "settings". I launched it to have a look but it ask to run the following command as root first...
    sudo nvidia-xconfig
...running that informed me that it generated this file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf
And so after rebooting, both startx and xinit would fail to start KDE (tried them independently).
    To revert, I did:
    mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bk
I also did pacman -Rsn xf86-video-intel then pacman -S xf86-video-intel
... tried rebooting and kde this time auto started again. However, still after every 2nd resume from opening lid, everything freezes and have to hold in the power button to power off.
I'm pretty sure I have some drivers or packages mixed up.
What's the best way to solve this? Or best command to see whats running what etc (drivers-wise)? Originally I used the chart in the wiki page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xo … stallation and installed the following packages:
xf86-video-intel (for the inter graphics card)
    nvidia (for the Nvidia GPU)
    bumblebee (as per archlinux.org.ru/forum/topic/12113/?page=3)
    EDIT:
Here's right from where it froze using journalctl -r. "lid close" is at the bottom  and the most recent up till frozen at the top...

  • Curious question - boot order

Can anyone who has just recently got a Toshiba Portege R835-P56x tell me the boot order? I think you get to this by hitting F11 during startup.  My computer guy changed something by accident and I am going to change it back to what it was originally.  I just want it to be what it was when I got the computer.  Right now it reads 1. Hard drive/SSd 2. USB and 3. CD drive.  For some reason I think CD should be #2.  Please let me know, thank you!

    >>> BTW just hit the delete key while booting up to get into it?
Yep, that will do it.  Correction here, the Del key is not the way to do this on a Toshiba, read what it says at the bottom of the screen as you boot it, mine says to hit F2 to get into the BIOS page. Thread carefully once in the BIOS. If you mess it up, it might be drastic. Just look for the option to "set intial options" or such wording. I will go and look it up for you, stand-by.
I have an Acer desktop here, it has a Phoenix Awards BIOS and the line that you ought to look for says :
" Load Optimized Defaults ". I will fire up the Toshiba to see if it is different.
Oh ! My Toshiba sports an Insyde H2O BIOS. But it is so easy to load the " Set up defaults ", just hit F9 and it will be done. The thing is to get into the BIOS page and I fancy that you learned to read a few years ago, make use of it.
Do let me know how you fare.   JP.
NB: I just saw that if you do have this H2O Insyde BIOS, the Exit selection at the far right top of the screen will give you that option too, to load default Setup, have a look.
