Interlaced or Progressive settings in FCE for Canon HF100 (pf25)?

1. I'm filming with a Canon HF100 in the pf25 setting.  This is a progressive setting I believe.
    >> Is the Canon HF100 pf25 setting a progressive one?
2. I heard that for full quality therefore I have to change the settings of my clips and sequence when they are imported in FCE.
My clips are transformed from AVCHD to apple intermediac codec full HD.
I change the settings in FCE by going to the browser, choose sequence/ clips
with the rightmouse touch and choose Fielddomminance. Then I change it from upper odd to none.
I have to do this with each single clip I use.
    >>>Isn't there a quicker workaround for changing the interlaced to progressive settings?

I give my own answer
>> Is the Canon HF100 pf25 setting a progressive one?
Its progressive
>>>Isn't there a quicker workaround for changing the interlaced to progressive settings?
Yes there is. Select everything with control a and then change .

  • Best settings for FCE4 for Canon HF100

    Hey all,
Looking at editing some footage in FCE4 with my Canon HF100. Am wondering what the best settings are to have my FCE4 at from the get-go. Importing with a SanDisk MicroMate. DV-NTSC? AIC? What should I have it set as? I read FCE4 only supports up to 1440x1020 or something along those lines. How do I get to edit stuff in full 1920x1080?
    Thanks,
    KX

First, update to 4.0.1. Use the appropriate setting that matches your media.

  • Interlaced frames after using Apple directions for Canon HV30 24p

I have an Canon HV30 HDV video camera and clips that have been recorded using its 24p mode. I'm using the instruction Apple has given to remedy this type of footage in Compressor and output to Pro Res:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2410?viewlocale=en_US
I've tried this method a couple of times and carefully also. Everything seems to work well other than the fact that I am getting interlaced frames on the last one or two frames of each clip. Sometimes it's the beginning of the clips. As they are supposed to, clips are changing to 24p and when I step through a clip frame by frame everything looks fine, except for those last couple frames. Other methods, like using JES Deinterlacer, do not produce these distorted interlaced frames. However I would prefer to use Compressor. Could it be that I changed some setting or preference in Compressor a while back that is affecting these clips right now?
    Please help!
Once again, using Final Cut Studio 2 and a Canon HV30 with 24p clips.

    Hello,
I experienced the same thing. But I feel that the first second or two of any clip is not useable, when
editing I have never needed every last frame.
This is not much of a help to you. I think it has to do with the mysteries of HDV, Long GOP, and 2 t0 3 pulldown and the complex post processing that must happen to yield 24 full frames.
    Good luck, Tom

  • Import/Export Settings for Canon T4i Video

    Hey folks,
I'm new to Premiere and loving it, but I'm wondering what the best sequence settings, as well as export settings, will be for video captured from my Canon Rebel T4i camera.
I prefer to shoot either in 1080p with 24 fps, or 720p at 60 fps––what settings within premiere should I use when setting up my project, and what are some good export options for Youtube/Vimeo?

  • CS6 Premiere Pro - settings for Canon HV30 ?

I had used that camera under Windows on CS3, then CS4.
I unfortunately purchased CS6 for Mac and got the same issue over and over again - wasting hours trying to capture. Tried it on two Macs (one using OS X Lion 10.7.4, the other Mountain Lion 10.8.4).
On the Lion machine, no matter which capture setting I chose, I get a crash of Premiere Pro as soon as I just even try to playback the tape (controlled through PPro).
On ML machine, I get the message : '' Adobe encxountered a serious error and need to close(......)''
The camera shows ''HDV'' on top of the screen, then on left of screen ''HDB/DV''.
I tried many of the possible options. I tried chosing DV, then HDV - then when the capture setting page opens, I tried most (what appear logical) settings. Even the Canon XF settings. Tried 720p, 1080i30, 1080p30, name it... Still getting the same damn result (no-result) all the times.
My only solution is to use a Windows 8 machine and capture under PPro CS4... then transfer to a Mac to edit the work.  Not a very good use of time... nor of an investment in CS6.
I am going through Firewire 400 in both cases.  And yep, the FW interfaces have been used with other devices - proving the interface is not at cause here.
From what I read in these forums, Canon (but also other cams) are causing such headaches. I'm out of ideas here.  I also read about others that seem to have had success with this same cam. Wonder how you did it (if any of you reads this).
Thanks for any hint or help.
    Rob

    Ann,
thank you for this: i already tried most of this shopping list
As for the setting change: I always turn the cam off before changing setting in Adobe. Changes nothing on the cam directly.
By the way (and so to cut it short on the FW connector, cable and so on on the physical side): i can capture freely and eithout a glitch with iMovie, a $19 application...   Something to get me even happier to have paid the big price for the Adobe full fledge rig....

  • FCE HD Easy Setup for Canon Vixia HFS21?

Dear ones, I have FCE HD v 3.5.1 installed on Powerbook G4 Mac OSX 10.4.11
Is FCE HD v 3.5.1 compatible with Canon HD Vixia HFS21?
If so, what is the appropriate Easy Setup for Canon HD Vixia HFS21?    Thxs kindly!
Do I need an Intel based laptop to use this Canon Vixia HD HFS21?  I believe my Powerbook G4 is not Intel based! Or is it?
    Thanks kindly!

    Bad news:
I'm pretty sure this Canon shoots AVCHD video for which you need both FCE4 and an Intel Mac to edit.  (Your G4 was the next-to-last of the Motorola processors before Apple switched to Intel chips.)

  • Which project settings for project for Canon Powershot Video Editing?

Which project settings for project for Canon Powershot Video Editing?
I want to edit video taken with a Canon Powershot SD 550 taken in NTSC 640 x 480. When I start a new project, which project settings should I be using? Also when exporting the project to view on a computer should I stick with the AVI or will MPEG or another universal format give me better end quality?

    Hunt,
This user has two thread topics here that are identical to ones at the forum which I frequent. Early on I  downloaded video from the Canon Powershot that he says he is using for the basis of my comments. So, I have put that video through gspot myself. Since the user is going between the two forums (mostly here), I did not want anything lost in the back and forth. The goal is to help attainment of the goal. That is why I am including comments at both locations:
    At The Other Forum
    Project Settings Thread
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52299
    Rotation Thread
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52298
The user has gotten back to me on the video rotation issue, thanking me, but telling me that another workflow was identified...and, as I note, generously shared with both sites. I am in the process of personally checking out what he said worked for him in that regard. However, the user has not gotten back to me on the topic of project settings.
So to expedite matters, when you get a chance, could you please check out my comments in that thread? I would be interested in your perspective on the matter and what I wrote.
    Thanks.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 Sequence Settings - Importing from a Canon XL2

Under Sequence Settings and the Advanced tab, should I leave the Compressor Quality tab at HIGH or BEST? I have heard that it's best to keep it at High but I just wanted to make sure of it. Also, since the Canon XL2 is a progressive scan camera (right?) should I lave the Scan Mode to INTERLACED or PROGRESSIVE and should I leave the Aspect Ratio to 4:3 even though I am shooting in 16:9? Thanks so much for your help.

You recorded DV/NTSC 16:9 Anamorphic (or DV/PAL depending on where you live)
That's what your Easy preset settings should be.
And no, the camera does not record progressive. It records 29.97 interlaced - like all DV cams recording to tape do. If the setting said 24fps, the camera inserted pull down in the 29.97 image stream. Unless you need to go back to film, simply edit the material in a 29.97 timeline.

  • Best Settings using the new Canon HV30 and Final Cut Express HD v3.5.1?

My wife presents programs at schools and uses digital movies that we make and edit as one of her media materials.  We want to present higher quality videos that look more film-like. I am hoping that the combination I described above will enable this improvement. In the past we used a Canon ZR20 and iMovie HD and put these on DVD's that were then played on a MacBook Pro with with QuickTime or iDVD hooked up to an Epson PowerLite projector.
I am now the proud owner of a new Canon HV30 and Final Cut Express HD3.5.1 (had FCE for a while so know how to use it). From my research, though, it looks like FCE will not be able to handle CINE MODE recording in combination with 24fps progressive frame rate [HDV(PF24)] which would allow the enhanced effect of the Cinema Mode. I can't justify the cost of Final Cut Studio 2 so I am hoping that the new [HDV(PF30)] will allow me to more easily edit in FCE.
Does anyone know if this is true and if so can please tell me the settings that I need both on the camera and in FCE to get the best quality movie that can played directly from my MacPro using QuickTime or iDVD or from a DVD in the MacPro using the iDVD player. I won't have the opportunity to always play the videos directly from the camera to an HDTV because of the school setting and the need to use a projector.
I know this is a lot to ask for, but I am sure that it will come up again and again as more people purchase this new camera. Thanks for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Lou Hosta

Without totally repeating myself with my post to MaccyLeopard, I haven't shot any footage yet. After doing a lot of reading I think I confused myself more than helped myself as far as settings go. So if you remember from my initial post I am asking for advice and guidance primarily on camera settings with the HV30 that will be used in a classroom (artroom) setting and then edited using FCE HD v3.5.1. I wish I was the type of person that could jump right into using a new piece of equipment but I like to get the advice of others beforehand. That way I'm not always questioning myself as to 'whether or not is this the best I can get'. I also am wondering if the 30fps frame mode would be the best to use in the classroom setting? From my reading, this mode should allow more light onto the tape allowing me to shoot in conditions with lower light levels that are typically found inside? Finally, is FCE HD able to edit this new 30 fps frame mode of the HD30? I've heard that FCE HD can't handle the 20 fps frame mode.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out.
    Sincerely,
    Lou Hosta

  • Mixing interlaced and progressive HDV footage?

Is anyone mixing interlaced and progressive footage on a FCP 5 timeline? Would you set the timeline up for progressive or interlaced settings? Would there be any loss in quality? I'm specifically wondering how well the true progressive of the JVC HD100 would combine with the "faux" progressive of the Canon A1.

I was hoping someone else would jump in with answers, because I am not familiar with either camera, and can't give you a definite answer, but I would hazard a guess that if you set both cameras to a 1/30th shutter, you would be able to mix the footage, but it would be very difficult to shoot, because it is such a slow shutter.
Other routes, would be converting the footage using compressors advanced formats conversion, and other tricks on the timeline, with removing fields and blending etc.
I think generally though, if you were going to intercut footage, you would notice it, at some level.
Some tests would help you enormously, as would renting a second camera identical to the first.
Good luck - post back with what worked and what didn't.

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • Best way to work with interlaced and progressive clips in the same timeline

I´m shooting with Sony MC-50E camera in 1920x1080, 50i. When importing with Log & Transfer I can work with ProRes 422 files in interlaced mode. I have to mix the footage with video screencapture which is progressive (ProRes 422). The final videos are for web only so it should end up as progressive H264 videos. I´m getting good result if exporting to H264, 1024x576 with deinterlacing enabled, but exporting to full HD gives typical interlaced lines in the picture. How can I avoid this and what is the best solution for working with both interlaced and progressive clips?

Deinterlace in Compressor using Frame Controls, Best settings. You can reconnect the deinterlaced files to your project, if you've already edited, but you may need to copy and paste the clips in your sequence to a new 25p timeline, then Remove Attributes, Basic Motion.
When you're ready to export your sequence, use Quicktime Movie, Current Settings, Self-contained. Take that file to Compressor to transcode back to h.264.
The Apple T.V. preset is very good.

  • 1080p pour export quality for 25p material from Canon HF100 PAL

    Hi
I have now tested iMovie 11 with a Canon HF100 PAL version. Shooting in progressive.
The AIC import has good quality.
New 1080p export gives same pour quality as before when using QuickTime 7 for h.264 export.
    AIC export provides good quality.
So still nu easy way for export from iMovie. Is this common or is it a camera compatibility issue?
    Thanks
    Olof

I just posted this for another user with the same problem.
I have a Sony VG10 camcorder that shoots 30p and records it as 1080i60. iMovie sees this as interlaced video and deinterlaces it IF I use most FX.
So I did a bit of googling and found there is a simple solution. I bought Steve Mullens newest version (09 and 11) of his "Ins and Outs of iMovie." With it I got a free copy of his iMakeFullHD utility. So after importing AVCHD I run the utility on the folder of clips and in a few seconds all the clips are now marked as progressive. Which is actually what they are! iMovie now treats them as 1080p30 -- exactly as it should.
When reading about the utility I remember skipping the stuff on PAL HD camcorders. So I just reread it and it's no big deal eitherl.
If you shoot 1080i50, the video is marked as 1080p25. This is exactly the reverse of what my camera does. So while I need to use iMakeFullHD, PAL users do not.
If you shoot 1080p25, the video is marked as 1080i50. This is exactly like my camera. So you have to use iMakeFullHD to remark it is as progressive -- which is what it is.
Now Ive no idea why Sony or Canon did what they did, but they did. After buying a $2000 camcorder, buying the book was by far the simpler solution.
I know he has a section on 1080p50 and 1080p60 from the tms700. Didn't apply to me so i skimmed it. Also, having had imovie 09 i was surprised to read that 11 now supports real 1080p24. There's also a section on removing 2-3 pulldown from 1080i60 to get 1080p24. Again i just skimmed this in case sony were to release a firmware update so I could shoot 24fps.
One more thing I learned. Because my video really is progressive, I can use all FX. They'll always look perfect.
But, if you shoot 1080i50 -- which imovie sees as 1080p25 -- the good news is that imovie will never deinterlace the clips causing a loss of resolution. But, the clips realy are interlace. this means that sometimes you may see combing during the FX. There are very clear pix of what this looks like in the ebook. But, the solution is so simple -- only shoot 1080p25!
Most of us want to shoot progresssive anyway!
The nice thing is i followed the instrictions on burning 1080 avchd video to DVDs and they play in HD on my BD player. And, i didn't have to buy a BD burner.

  • Interlace or Progressive when Authoring DVD's

    Hi,
I'm wondering what I should set my Video Settings to:- Interlace or Progressive when creating Quicktime Movie Files, which I later intend to convert to Mpeg-2 for DVD authoring.
I was told that since Most TV's only accepted Interlace, I should use Interlace. Is this True?
Thanks in advance for your time.
    Regards,
    Rajnesh

Thanks for your reply. Actually my footage is from an Image Sequence that was Scanned from a Film Negative. I used Graphic Converter (comes with the Mac) to convert to a Quicktime Movie.
I recently tried it both ways - choosing 1. Progressive and 2.Interlaced. Both were then converted to MPeg-2 and viewed on a home TV. The Interlaced seemed better.
But I was wondering how / whether I could use Progressive...

  • Video switching from interlace to progressive on render

We have a video 29.97 1920x1080i which we are running dynamic linked through after effects, and when we render the video out in premiere it is switching from interlace to progressive.
When the video, in the dynamic link is left un-rendered, we can see the fields in the video, they only disappear after render.
We have tried rendering into several different codecs, ProRes 422 (HQ) being our preferred codec.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?

The issue is present, even on our external monitors. I just had a chat with customer support, it offered little help:
Ankit Chillar: Please elaborate the issue you are facing.
Jack Savage: We have interlace media, which we are dynamic linking through after effects, and back in premiere, before we render the clip we can see that it is still interlace, but as soon as we render it, no matter what the codec, it renders into progressive
Ankit Chillar: What is the version of Premiere Pro and after effects are you using?
      Jack Savage: cc 2014.2
Ankit Chillar: Hi, Checked this information for you
Ankit Chillar: After Effects renders the video frame by frame so if you send a project from AE to Premiere then the sequence would be progressive by design and ca not be changed to interlaced
Jack Savage: why is it not rendering inside of premiere?
Jack Savage: not using premieres render engine
Ankit Chillar: because Premiere will treat the file as a uncompressed media file and render it as it is.
Jack Savage: I would like premiere to operate the same way the AE render engine does, giving me an option to choose the field order.
Ankit Chillar: I am afraid that is not how the application is designed, If you have suggestions for any improvement or feature you can register your suggestions on following link :0186602810
      Ankit Chillar: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Jack Savage: we can force it into interlace by changing the setting in modify, is there a way to make that the default setting when using dynamic link projects?
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to [email protected] at the end of your chat.
Ankit Chillar: No sir, there is no workflow to do that, However a workaround might be possible for that you can post the query on our community forums. The support staff on forums as well as many of our active professional users might help you with the workflow.
      Jack Savage: ok thanks
Ankit Chillar: Thank you for contacting Adobe. Good Bye.
