Intermec 751 Handhelds and WLC code versions

We have Intermec 751 mobile handhelds and three WLAN controllers. A 4404-100, 4402-25, and a 2000-6. The 4404 & 2000 series are running 3.x WLC code and the 4402-25 is running 4.x.
We're using the same SSID & WPA-PSK on all three controllers, and the handheld associates with the controllers that have the 3.x code, but not the WLC with 4.x code. Besides the different code, we have the exact same WLAN's defined. We've also tried creating an Open WLAN with no security, and still nothing. We're using the Intermec Settings app to manage the WLAN settings..
Has anyone run into this before? Other devices - laptops and CK30 scanners can connect, but not the 751's. We're going to open up a TAC as well, but I thought I'd check the boards to see if anyone else has encountered anything similar.

I found this on Intermec's "Knowledge Central". I don't know if this will help but it's worth a shot. It's seems "SR06236001" fixes Cisco LWAPP version 4.x compatibility. Here is the full KC post.
Scope:
7x1 terminals running OSv4.95.1 PSMv4.03 with SR06236001 installed using Funk-WPA-TLS-LWAPP v4.x
Problem Description/Purpose:
The terminal will reauthenticate on the network approximately once every twelve minutes. If hundreds of terminals are deployed, this creates a large amount of unwanted reauthentication traffic on the authentication server.
Answer
Solution/Action Plan:
Intermec Engineering recommends enabling CCKM to reduce frequent and unwanted reauthentication messages on the authentication server.
SR06236001 also offers these enhancements to OS version 4.95.1/4.03 PSM on the 751A, 761A and CN2BA with WM2003:
1. Power managed radio response time is improved (PSP).
2. Roaming performance with LEAP is improved.
3. Fix for Cisco LWAPP version 4.x compatibility.
4. Fixes a CCX association ID problem that was associated with CCKM.
Do not use SR06236001 on devices other than the 751A, 761A, or CN2BA (Samsung radio).
SR06236002 is specifically for the CN30A with Windows Mobile 5 and contains the same enhancements (Samsung radio). This updated has been tested on CN30 OS version 2.47 with version 2.01 SD Card Image.
Installation instructions for either SR listed above:
1. copy the associated CAB file to \CabFiles and warm boot
or
2. copy the CAB file to \Temp folderand double-click on it.
The terminal will automatically warm boot after the SR is installed.

  • Mobility Anchor/Foreign WLC code versions

I am trying to setup a mobility anchor (5500 version: 7.2.111.3). I need this version as to support the Bonjour gateway.
The foreign WLC is a WiSM-1 (version: 7.0.220.0).
I have control/data path up. I am able to ping through it. I am, however, getting invalid mobility packets to the foreign WLC from the Anchor.
Do the code versions have to be identical for a mobility anchor? I do not plan on perofrming any AP roaming to the anchor.
    Thanks.

    Output below. Anchor first.

  • Long lived WLC code version that works well w/ ISE?

We've been running 7.0.116 for a long time.
While it's served us well, we're looking for the next well built version that will play nicely w/ ISE.
Does anyone know which version will be considered "long lived" that Cisco will maintain, and also works well w/ ISE?
    We're looking into 7.2.111.3, 7.3.112.0, and 7.4.100.0.
    thx!

That is tough since v7.5 and v8.0 might make its appearance this year. What you need to look at when comparing those 3 code versions is the open caveats. As long as the caveats don't affect your implementation, any of those will work. It also comes down to what feature you want. I think 7.x will stay the same until v8.0 comes out them they might not make any new versions for v7.x.

  • ISE and WLC SRE module compatibilty matrix

    Hi all,
We are running SRE module on router with code of 6.x release .Is there any compatibilty matrix available for ISE and WLC code to support CWA . because as of now , the wireless clients are not redirecting to the ISE login page.
    Kindly suggest.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Vijay

The doc is for wireless guest using CWA. For wired guest, I don't know since you can do wired guest from a WLC that supports it or from a switch.

  • Called-Station-ID attribute and Cisco WLC code 7.4

    Hello
I have 2 WLCs configured with 2 SSIDs (one is [WPA2][Auth(802.1X)] and the other is Web-Auth). One of the WLCs is remote and its WLANs are configured with mobility anchors pointing to the other WLC. Both WLCs are configured with Called-Station-ID set to AP Mac Address:SSID. I use this attribute on ACS to authenticate/authorize users based on what SSID they connect to.
This worked fine on WLC code 7.0 but on upgrading to 7.4 I started having some issues:
clients on the remote WLC can still authenticate on the [WPA2][Auth(802.1X)] SSID as the Called-Station-ID attribute is still AP Mac Address:SSID
clients on the remote WLC cannot authenticate on the Web-Auth SSID as the Called-Station-ID attribute now appears to be the Mac Address of the WLC anchor controller
WLC models are 5508 and current code is 7.4.110.0 (APs are AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9). Can anyone tell me why I'm seeing this behaviour on the Web-Auth SSID on the remote WLC?
    Thanks
    Andy

Since you have two AAA devices that's sending info, you can have your policy for the guest specifying the guest WLC. The SSID policy for the foreign WLC is only really needed if you have multiple 802.1x authentication from the foreign WLC and that's when you can use the regex to defiance the SSID per AD Group.
Look at a successful authentication from one of the guest users. Look at the detailed log and then in that log, you will see all the attributes being sent that the radius can send back to the WLC. You can use any of those attributes in your policies.
Called-Station-ID might not be sent like what your use to, because the foreign WLC has the access point the guest user associates to and tunnels it back to the anchor WLC. So this attribute might not be available. Things do change with code versions so you might just have to adjust your policies. I haven't played around with 7.0.x code with guest anchor and radius in a while, but I have in the past upgraded radius or the WLC and had to tweak my radius policies.

  • Cisco Prime Version 1.4.1 and upgrading WLC SW version to 7.6.130.0

    Dear All,
we have learned that Software Version 7.5.102.0 has been deferred by Cisco.
We now plan to upgrade our WiSM2 Controllers to Version 7.6.130.0 but have seen that a Pre-Requiste is that
our CPI must be running 1.4.1 or higher.
Question: We can't find Version 1.4.1 on the Cisco Download Site. We can only find CPI 1.4 update 1. Is that the same ?
And do you know why we should upgrade to Version 7.6.130.0 and not to Version 8.0.100 which had been released Prior to 7.6.130.0 ?
    We would appreciate any hint.
    Cheers,
    Thorsten

Question: We can't find Version 1.4.1 on the Cisco Download Site. We can only find CPI 1.4 update 1. Is that the same ?
    Yes, It is.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1-4/release/notes/cpi_rn_141.html
And do you know why we should upgrade to Version 7.6.130.0 and not to Version 8.0.100 which had been released Prior to 7.6.130.0 ?
7.6.130.0 is 3rd maintenance release of 7.6. code. So it has lots of bug fixed since 7.6.100.0 released in last December. On the other hand 8.0.100.0 is the first release of 8.0 code & out there in just 2-3 months. So if your wirelesll environment is very critical, then stay 7.6.130.0 is advisable. Othewise jumping into 8.0.100.0 (or wait for 8.0MR1 to be release within few weeks) . Refer this for compatibility matrix for each version

  • 7.0 WLC Code and Assurewave

    Hi all,
I'm looking at doing some testing with one of my controllers by upgrading it to version 7 code but was wondering if anyone out there (in a hospital environment) is running Aeroscout and Vocera on version 7 code on one of my 4404 controllers.  Since there's no Assurewave certified code out yet I'm checking to see if anyone's running it and/or if they've run into any issues.
    Thanks in advance!

It seems your LAP AP is not getting the iP of the management subnet and LAP is in different subnet than your management IP.
Please try keeping the static IP on the LAP and then try joining it to the controller first and later on keep it on the DHCP.
when AP is plugged into a switch, the switch port needs to be access with the right VLAN allowed

  • WCS and WLC versions for Cisco 3600 WAP

    Hi,
I got a few Cisco Aironet 3602i. The minimum WLC version to support these is 7.1.91.0. I am planning to upgrade to 7.2.103.0. The minimum WCS version to support these WAP is 7.0.220.0 and the next available 7.0.230.0. Checking the release notes for both of these WCS versions, there is no mention of support for WLC versions listed above.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/release/notes/WCS_RN7_0_230.html#wp152663
Am I missing something here ? What versions would be required on WCS and WLC to make all the three entities (WLC, WCS, WAP) inter-operable ?
    Thanks,
    Regards, Rashid.

    Thanks Scott.
Table-5 from your link indicates WCS 7.0.230.0 support for WLC 7.1.91.0, although release notes for WCS fails to mention this. I think thats the only option in the our existing WCS based network then. Other option being to upgrade to NCS.
The NCS page http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/index.html indicates it will be offered to existing WCS customers when releases. Would we be required to pay for the product or both product and licenses or none ?

  • ISE 1.2 and WLC 7.4 Stability

We are deploying ISE 1.2 for wireless only and have been experiencing a lot of issues with central web auth on controllers on version 7.4MR2. It appears we are hitting a bug, but I am curious what others on ISE 1.2 have found as the best stable WLC code to use? Has anyone been experiencing issues on 7.4 specific to CWA and web redirect? We are encountering a problem where users are getting constantly thrown back to the guest portal page after about 5 to 10 minutes after successfully logging in. Thanks.

    Hi,
I have been running 7.4.115.0 on a production system for over 6 months with no visible issues.  The 7.4.115.0 patch is a special release to fix Apple iOS7 captive portal bypass. Other than that, 7.4.110.0 was pretty stable.
You might consider changing the Guest WLAN session timeout on the advanced page on the WLAN in the WLC to a higher number which may fix your re-authentication issue every 5-10 minutes.

i searched for the regulatory domains difference between  AIR-LAP1041N-E-K9 and  AIR-LAP1041N-A-K9 and didn't find any difference that may affect the operation of this AP.
just to mention that our configuration in WLC for regulatory domains is:
    Configured Country Code(s) AR
    Regulatory Domain  802.11a:  -A
                                 802.11bg: -A
My question is, should i only include my country in the WLC (IQ) to add the requlatry domain (-E) to solve this problem? or changing the country will affect the operation of all working APs??
    Appreciate your kind support,
    Wisam Q.

    Hi Ramon,
thank you for the reply but as shown in the below link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7.0.html#wp233793
the WLC in version 7.0.116.0 supports Cisco 1040 seiries APs.
    Thanks,
    Wisam Q.

  • WCS and WLC AP values not fully in sync.

I have recently added several new aps on my network, after they connect to the controller, I set a hostname, and change the ip address to a static. However, WCS still sees the aps by the old ip and host name despite going into each one, hitting audit, and then save, any way to fix this? Thanks.

You may want to also consider the following:
    1) Both the WCS and the WLC need to be at the same major revs (i.e.: The if the WCS is at v4.2, then the WLC should also be at 4.2). Failure to do so results in some significantly bizarre behavior such as errors after an audit - at least that was my experience.
    2) You may have better success if you make the change from the WCS which pushes the change to the WLC and that way the WCS is already aware of the change. (Normally, this should work - I know of one instance where it does not: changing Master Controller Mode from the WCS).
    3) If you feel strongly about making the change in the WLC (and are running a newer version of code in the WCS/WLC - i.e.: 4.x), there is a setting that forces the WLC to send configuration changes to the WCS once APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked:
From the *WCS*, click on Configure->Controllers and click on the controller you wish to change, and check the "Refresh on Save Config Trap" check box and click OK.
This will cause the controller to push any configuration changes up to the WCS after an APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked.
    4) In terms of getting the WCS to actually synch up with the controller (assuming the WCS and WLC are at the same rev. levels), you may need to do what I did (this was subsequent to upgrading to v4.2 in both the WLC and WCS and having chronic "mismatch" status between the WCS and WLC):
    From the WCS:
Configure->Controllers, check the controllers you wish to synch up. From the dropdown, select "refresh config from controller"
Next, select the DELETE option (instead of the RETAIN option). I believe that there are bugs in the software that upgrades earlier revisions to 4.2. I know that it might seem undesirable to DELETE information in the WCS, however, if you choose "DELETE", it seems to get rid of the residual information from the previous revisions that did not upgrade properly and the WCS will now be in synch with the controllers. DELETING the other settings makes the audit errors go away.
Subsequent audits may go better for you after performing the step shown above. However, you may need to repeat this process in item 4 above once or twice more until the database gets cleaned up, but after that my own experience has been that the WCS and WLC will eventually stay in synch.
It is unfortunate that we are forced to come up with workarounds like these when the software should clearly be able to handle this on its own, but we do what we must to get the job done.
    Hope this helps,
    - John

  • WLC code for point to point bridging

What is the best WLC code for point to point and point to multipoint bridging on a 2504 with 2602 APs? 7.2-7.4 had transparent vlan issues and I'm not sure if they were fixed in 7.5-7.6. We have 5-6 vlans that we are needing to bridge between a large open area. Also, are there any bugs with wireless mesh and ISE?

You do not have many choices now, only 7.0.250.0, 7.4.121.0 & 7.6.110.0 codes are supported by Cisco. All other codes have been deferred by them.
I do not have configured those set-up to advise you specific to that. I would think 7.6.110.0 may have fixed whatever the known bugs in previous versions.

  • This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry handheld and an associated server.........

    Hi everyone,
I am having issues with a couple of BlackBerry's, where they are receiving a message on their phone saying:
"This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry handheld and an associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server."
    Email is from "[email protected]"
This has only appeared since installing the BlackBerry Desktop Software version 6.
We have used the link below which resolved the issue on one of the BlackBerry's but on the other neither of the options are there.
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB04254&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
The link I have just posted references to version 5, just wondered if anyone knows how to resolve it in version 6 or some other option. Original email is still received fine but want to stop the other email about "This message is used to carry data between.......".
    Thanks in Advance.
    Kevin

An alternative, if you cannot stop it via the two recommended fixes, is to send those messages to your jiunk folder at the email server level so that they never reach your BlackBerry...
