Intermittent disconnects/severe lag

I've been experiencing severe delays in response time recently (mostly over the last week or so) every few minutes which seem to last several seconds. This is mostly noticeable while playing online games (especially World of Warcraft) but also occasionally while just browsing the web. I've tried rebooting my modem and my router, neither seems to solve the problem.
I started by contacting technical support on Blizzard's forums, and this is what they said:
You seem to have some dropped data, which is occurring in hop 4, or it may be asked, hard to tell right now.
But it seems like there is a jump in ms when it gets handed off from Verizon a peering partner, and may be causing the issue. You may want to contact your ISP and ask them about that, since it happens before us.
We are also investigating reports of latency issues like this with Verizon and players in your area. We have a sticky thread here in the Tech forums, that you will want to post, so that we can get more examples and investigate this further as well. That would help us.

Looking at the traceroute the latency looks to be starting after your data leaves the Verizon network. In particular note on and after hop 7. Unfortunately as far as administration goes, we do not have control over non Verizon routers.

Corporate Win7/Office 2010 | Severe Lag when opening Office 2010 files over the network

Good Evening Everyone,
I work in a corporate environment for one of the top banks in the country (USA). We recently upgraded our computers to Windows 7. (The image has office 2010 included in the build)
I've been experiencing some severe lag when opening Office files over the network. Let me start by saying I've researched a lot and have yet to find a solution that works or even makes much of an improvement.
Notes: My laptop is new (64-bit Win 7 Enterprise). The remote desktop where the files lie is new as well. (64-bit Win 7 Enterprise) Both computers have good hardware and more than enough juice to handle applications.
There are certain files I work on along with other co-workers that we store on a computer within the office. We simply create shortcuts to the files on our local machines and make changes, etc. from there. However, after this upgrade, every time I try to
open a file on the remote computer, it takes over a 1 minute to load. I've spoken to our support team who sent someone out and confirmed it's not the network.
Both computers are on the same subnet as well. I've changed the trust center settings on both the client computers and "server" to trust any computer on the network. I have also changed the network card's speed from "Auto Negotiate" to
full duplex 100mbps with no luck.
I am out of options here and in desperate need for a fix. Even saving changes to a file we work on takes forever. 50% of the time when I close a spreadsheet, the title bar has a not responding message and takes a minute to eventually close.
PS: Extra Info : All computers run McAfee AV and use McAfee for disk encryption. I've confirmed all computers are up-to-date in every respect with the AV software.

Open My Computer.
Open the Tools menu and choose Folder Options...
Select the File Types tab.
Select the extension (for example DOC, or XLS) of the file that is slow to open.
In the Details section, click [Advanced], and another dialog box will open.
In the Actions section, click Open then click [Edit...], and another dialog box will open.

Macbook 2011 severe lag and spinning ball

Hi
I recently re-formatted and re-installed os x on to my mbp due to severe lag, everything i did resulted in the spinning ball.
It's still the same so i performed an etrecheck, here are the results, does this mean my disk is fried? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

Even without knowing how much RAM you have, it certainly sounds like either too little or a bad stick. Remember that Rosetta likes RAM. The more the merrier.
It could also be that something is hogging your CPU cycles. As suggested, open up your activity monitor (located under applications -> utilities) and check both CPU activity and memory usage. Be sure to open the drop box and select "all processes" not just "my processes."
Apps running under Rosetta are not the only possibilities. Look for anything that is taking up large amounts of RAM or CPU cycles.

Strange intermittent internet disconnect-reconnect... and another question.

This has happened twice now and is fixed with a restart, but I'd like to know if I have faulty hardware. What happens is that I'll open my Macbook from sleeping and the internet will disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect for 2 seconds, disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect, repeat. This will continue UNTIL I restart the computer.
I know it's not my internet, because it has NEVER happened to another computer in my house. I'm wondering if my Airport isn't causing issues with it...
I also have serious issues with BOTH of my browsers freezing when I open from sleep. Like the computer takes a few minutes to figure out what it was doing and won't let me switch windows, open a new link or even click on the URL bar. I often have to Force Quit Safari or Firefox (whichever I'm using at the time) and restart them before they work. So now I'm thinking RAM issue?
I can't bring send thing in till middle of May do to daily use for college, but I can bring it to a Genius Bar (which I'll probably do next week) and hope they can fix it in store. I'm just hoping you can provide some insight here. Help! Should I add some more RAM.. or just have it replaced?

SA - Click on over to the MacBook forum in Apple/Support/Discussions. You will find many threads about MacBooks intermittently dropping connection. I did not see any mention of this happening with Wake Up or Restart, but that might be related. Looks like the new hardware/software combo is too sensitive or gets confused by other networks.
No definitive solutions. Some router/Mac reconfigure may make a difference - fixed channel instead of automatic may help if you can choose one different from your neighbors' networks, and maybe different encryption will help.
If it's a brand new book, you may be able to exchange and hope the next one does not have the problem.

WLC 5508 : session disconnected when one lag-port is down.

Hello,
I have a WLC 5508 ( version 6.0.182).
When the port1 and port2 are connected ( The switch is configured with a etherchannel in forced mode) everything works fine: There is traffic on the 2 ports.
When I disconnect one of the 2 ports, I can still ping outside with my PC client, but all my tcp sesssions goes down and I even cannot restart my session. The only way I found is to do a "Disconnect / Reconnect" on my PC wireless connection.
Do you know this probleme ?
Is it a way to avoid it ?

Intermittent Router Connection Past Several Days

We had two one-hour power failures over the holidays, the last one on Christmas morning at 2 am. Since then, my ActionTec router has had an intermittent connection to the internet. It loses connectivity and the yellow light flashes for a minute or two, and then it reconnects. This happens several times a day. Is this happening to other folks in Keller, TX, or do I have a hardware problem? Please let me know. Thanks. Mark

Just to follow up, it has now been almost a month since my ONT was replaced, not one single failure since, everything has been as solid as a rock. So at least in my case it definitely was the ONT.

Thunderbolt Monitor causing severe lag in FCPX 10.1.2 - Help!

So, I have been using final cut X for a while with a 2012 Retina MBP connected to a thunderbolt G-raid and the apple thunderbolt monitor. I have had sevre lag and beach balling in FCPX every single time its plugged into my thunerbolt monitor - however when the laptop is no connected FCPX runs much much smoother.
I obviously would like to use my 27inch amazing thunderbolt monitor and not have to settle for something else - unless there is something that is better at this resolution for editing?

Are you connecting the Thunderbolt display to the Mac to use for mirroring or are you only use the Thunderbolt display for FCPX editing?
I don't use mirroring on purpose as it tends to slow OS X down a bit.
Also, this way you are not powering the Mac and Thunderbolt display at the same time. I use the adapter that came with my MB Air for that.

Windows 7 Intermittant LAN Disconnect

I have about 20 Windows 7 laptops in a section of our office building. About half of these laptops experience random disconnects about once a week that last for about 5 minutes. During this time:
The laptop can ping its loopback address
The laptop can ping its ip address
The laptop can not ping its gatway address
After a few minutes is can hit its gateway again. The interesting thing is these laptops are on the same vlan but dont experience disconnects at the same time. There are also no errors recorded on the switch to indicate that the issue is on that
side. The cabling has recently been punched down to a new patch panel and has been re-certification to boot. What can I look at on the windows 7 side that could possilbly cause the random disconnect symtom?

First, please check the following event log log before you try any suggestions.
In Event Viewer, click Applications and Service Logs, and then open Microsoft, 3.Click Windows, open Wired-AutoConfig, and then click Operational. 4.In the details pane, click the event to display the logged information.
Please update the motherboard (chipset) driver to see if the issue can be resolved. Also, bypass the router to check the result. If the issue persists, go into Safe Mode with Networking (Restart computer, press the F8 key when the boot menu pops up, select
[Safe Mode with Networking], and boot up) and check if the issue still occurs.
I also suggest you try the following steps.
1. Update the router’s firmware.
2. Temporarily turn off firewall and 3rd party antivirus on the machine.
In addition, run the Troubleshooting tool by going to Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Connect to the Internet.

Severe Lag Spikes - GE70 2PC Apache

Hello everyone,
I consulted the search function and found out that I'm not alone with this, but sadly there also was no fix for my problem.
I bought the GE70 just recently and am pretty happy with it. It has decent specs and runs every game that I play very smoothly.
Until I enter online modes.
I get super hard lag spikes from 50-60ms up to nearly 300ms, which is super annoying especially in games like dota2 or any shooter. These lags occur every 2-5 minutes. The MSI support suggested that I should lower my Wi-Fi adapter settings using these options

I did all of the above, but didnt achieve the desired outcome. In fact, it helped a little as it reduced the occurence of lags from every 2-5 minutes to every 5 minutes. Yet, i still believe that there has to be a final solution.

During all the research I did to find a solution to my problem, I cam up with a great way to test whether the problem is fixed or not.
So for everbody that has this problem and needs to check whether it is solved, after trying something new:
WinKey + R
type "cmd"
type "ipconfig" into the cmd window
locate the Standard-Gateway for the connection you're currently using (often times it's 192.168.1.1)
type "ping 192.168.1.1 -t"
This will ping your router every second or two. If you leave it running for five to ten minutes, you can press Ctrl + Scroll Lock and it will show you some statistics. They look like this (if you have lag spikes)
Anyways, after reading quite a bit, i found out that the issues I'm having might relate to the Killer e2200, unfortunately, i was not able locating neither the newest driver nor the KillerCleaner (both of which are suggested here) and therefore could not try fixing it that way.
I am also suspecting the nvidia geforce experience software to be the cause, but i am not sure.
So here I am guys, trying to solve this problem, since it bugs me a lot. I just want to be able to play any game without these stupid lags. Simply using an ethernet cable is not an option. :(
So yeah, any help is appreciated.
My Specs:
GE70 2PC Apache
Win7 64bit Home Premium (free windows 10 upgrade, woohoo :D)

Ofc i did. Twice in fact. Although the first support guys were only making wild guesses such as referring to this link https://dragoonarmy.msi.com/home/info/labs/detail/309 which relates to the GT72 and not the GE70 which has no Shift whatsoever.
Then they started talking about the HDDs power saving mode and decreasing the W-Lan-Adapters performance, as quoted above. Not only was nothing related to my problem but in fact completely off topic.
My second experience with the support was just now. They referred me to the same guide you did and which i found myself already.
Now the support dude suggests that i do this:
- Reinstall Windows and only install SCM (which i believe to be the Steel Series thingy) and nothing else from the driverCD that came with the laptop.
- then to update the bios and ec firmware (whatever that is)
and if nothing helps i am supposed to sent the laptop for a checkup. which sucks, as i am going to shanghai in a week. so either i reinstall windows. which already sucks. or i contact msi china once i am there. and explain my problem. in chinese. probably xD
Anyways, I don't think a new laptop should be more influenced by electromagnetic intereferences as an old one. since better shielding amirite?^^

Does CS4 fix the severe lag problems of CS3?

I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 with an 8-core Mac Pro, and the lag
is terrible. Just clicking on the menu bar often takes 5 seconds+
before the menu appears.
Has CS4 fixed this problem?

I have never experienced such a problem with DW CS3 or CS4 on
my Mac
Book Pro. It sounds like a problem with your local setup.
However, the
best way to make the comparison is to download the trial
version, and
test it for 30 days.

Itunes severely lagging and audio quality bad

whenever i open my itunes it takes a while to use and it lags, closing itunes takes about 1 to 2 minutes. is there anything i can do to speed it up, i have the most recent version of itunes. also, the audio crackles a lot, even if i use headphones ( so its not my macbook pro's speakers)

This is not normal behavior for itunes. You should look into what it is with your setup that is causing this behavior. Corrupted disk/files, storing your music on an external drive or nas?

Experiencing severe lag when using browsers?

Hi there. Up until very recently my MBP has been performing well, with little to no lag, save for during really heavy use. Recently upgraded to 8 GB of RAM as well and until this week it's been fine, but lately, whenever I use either Chrome or Safari, the entire machine just slows down and becomes largely unresponsive until I force quit whichever browser I've chosen to use.
I've searched everywhere to see if anyone else had been having problems like this, but couldn't return anything, so really hope someone here can help. It all. Ht freezes as soon as I open Chrome / Safari, and that then slows down every other application that I might be using. I've even tried running just a single browser, but it's always the same thing.

Intermittant network disconnect while tethering

I have both an Iphone 3G and Iphone 4. This problem only occurs with the Iphone 4.
After a few minutes of surfing on my Win 7 64 bit desktop while tethered, I get a yellow exclamation point in my status bar and I can no longer surf the web. When I hit "troubleshoot connectivity issues" the adapter resets and I can surf again.. for a few minutes. Then the problem returns.
Sometimes I can surf for 5 minutes, other times 20 minutes... but the problem always comes back.
Does anyone have any ideas for this? I do not notice the problem with my 3G phone, but I prefer to tether with the Iphone 4 as its upload speed seems quicker. (Verified with DSLreports.com)

I think I found the problem... and it goes to show that the Iphone 4 antenna is not as sensitive as the Iphone 3G or 3GS.
Before the update(4.0.1).. both phones showed 5 bars. I new that was a crock because I live out in the boonies. So far in fact, my ONLY internet option is tethering. I'm thankful I am in a 3G area.
After the update, I get 2 to 3 bars. That seems more realistic. Especially when I tried a USB dongle before tethering was available, and it only showed 1 to 2 bars.
While surfing, I have placed my Iphone higher up.. where the dongle used to get the best signal, and the disconnects have disappeared. When using the Iphone 3G, it works anywhere around my desk.
So, I will mark this message as solved since I'm pretty confident I found the issue.

Intermittent Wireless Disconnect

I've been using my iPad pretty much non-stop since I've had it, and I've noticed that if I use my iPad for a period of time longer than 20 minutes, the wireless will simply disconnect. It will not reconnect again until I visit the 'Wireless' section of the 'Settings' app.
The signal reception is in no way degraded (I get full bars wherever I may go in my house), but just simply stops working.
This happens the most when I am doing off-line activities (reading an ebook, typing in notes, or playing a game) and I don't really notice until I try to access the app, music, or book store.
Has anyone else had the same or similar problem? If so, is it a passive energy-saving feature (although I find it hard to believe)?

I assume that you are having the same connection problem? It's unfortunate to work so long on a project like this and have one simple thing ruin it all. The iPad does. after all, require an internet connection for most of it's features.
I'm sorry to hear that you are sending yours back - mine is acting exactly the way I thought (and assumed) it would. The ability to print or view Adobe Flash was never advertised so I never expected it. So far, I haven't had any trouble switching from mobile to full versions of websites (some sites recognize the iPad as a mobile browser, some see it differently).
Just like the iPhone, it's the software that will ultimately decide how useful the device is in the future. With iPhone OS 4 right around the corner, it'll be exciting to see what they plan to introduce (connecting to network share? printing? proper bluetooth file transfers?) and what various iPhone developers will have to create.
