Interrupted upgrading process of database to 3.1

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum but have solved many of my problems by just reading through some topics, thanks.
I got interrupted the process while upgrading the database to version 3.1 when opening it, computer shut down. Since then by opening the effected database the screen shows "Warning, error when opening......" and can only quit. I tried by open another database, which converted fine, and to switch to the effected one, now a message shows "Upgrading Step 6 of 10" and is shows an ongoing activity, under Force Quit no error message - the application seems to run, but I am still able to continue other work in the opened database. That message "upgrading' already runs quite a while, either it takes that long or simply not doing anything?
I tried the repair database function, but it wants to finish the upgrade first? Any ideas? Unfortunately I have no backup of this file. Would appreciate some help, thanks.
Cheers
Rene

Problem solved by miracle? Just a quick update:
- downgraded Aperture to version 3.03 (same as last version of effected library file), executed "Repair function" (option/command keys when opening) started with 1st option, was prompted to 2nd option and then prompted to last option of full rebuild. Run that but not much changed overnight.
- upgraded next day Aperture back to 3.1 and thought simply to try again. This time when opening it attempted to finish the remaining "upgrading to 3.1" steps but ended with an error message "being corrupted". Opened again in repair mode (option/command key pressed) and started again with 1st option, got prompted to 2nd option - after that it just stopped and quit itself. Reopened again in repair mode, selected last option to complete rebuild - and finally it started rebuilding the library file and completed in about 10min (50GB). Now I can access it again.
- tried to import projects directly from this effected library file into a new library file, but it could not read the current version of that library - so it is clear even after the rebuild it somehow still is not 100%. However it is can be accessed.
- as a precaution (also advised by apple support), will now export all projects from this effected file and simply rebuild a new database file.
- learned also from apple support that even the corrupted files can be read, select the library file from your finder window, right mouse click and choose "Show Package Contents". Now at least you get access to your original pictures stored previously in your library file - look for folder "Masters". This may be your last option if all attempts to repair would fail, with the exception of having access to your original pics all other work is lost. At least one gets to rebuild his library manually.
Hope this may give anyone other option besides the ones already known...
Cheers

    Hi
I have a 11gR1 database with dataguard setup.I have successfully upgraded the primary database to 11gR2 using dbua.
Although 11gR2 software is installed on standby server,I realized archivelogs were not shipped to standby server during the database upgrade.
When I switch logfile in primary, I see below errors in standby alertlog:

However, rman is giving this error:

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 so we have setup test environment to test SQL database upgrade before doing same in production.
But while testing SQL database upgrade on test machine, it is getting failed with below error.

Can anyone please help to get this resolved.
    Thanks.

We found out that there were duplicate entries in the PkgStatus_G and the PkgServers_G tables in the SCCM DB.  We identified them, deleted them , and then we were able to run the /TESTDBUPGRADE command and it went through fine.  We performed
all of this on a COPY of the PROD DB and then moved the changes in PROD.  Hope this helps someone.

  • Upgrading from Oracle database 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.3

    Hello
I'm new to oracle database installations. I'm trying to upgrade from 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.3 but have no clue on how to do it...
What must i do and where can i download the necessary executables? Metalink?
I thank in advance all your help!
    Best regards

    OK,
This is an upgrade from 10g Rel 1 to 10g Rel 2 plus the 10.2.0.3.0 patchset. It means you will have to perform these operation>
    0. Perform a full backup of your current environment.
    1. Install 10gR2 on a separate Oracle Home.
    2. Apply the 10.2.0.3.0 patchset on top of this new oracle installation.
    3. Perform the database upgrade process to upgrade your database from 10gR1 to 10gR2-3
This is not an upgrade guide and there are a lot of details you must consider prior to actually executing this procedure, I suggest you to read the 10gR2 upgrade guide you can find here --> http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/toc.htm

  • Is R3load used in Upgrade process

    Hi all,
During Upgrade in CONFIGURATION PHASE when we select
    > MANUAL SELECTION OF PARAMETERS & provide values R3load is by default 3
I am pretty confused where R3load is used in Upgrade process
Why is R3load not mentioned in the Upgrade Guide if it is effectively used
SAP ERP 6.0 Including Enhancement Package 4 Support Release 1 ABAP
Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Including Enhancement Package 1
    Pls advice on the following
    -Rahul

    Hi,
As already mentioned R3load is what will load the database tables during Upgrade process. If you have enough resources you can speed up the downtime Upgrade Process using more R3load parallel processes but this will depend in how many CPU's and memory you have. Usually each R3load process will take around 512Mb of RAM and you can use 1.5 R3load processes per CPU.
I have used this numbers given to us by SAP and did not have any problem at all.
    Good luck,

  • Upgrade Process from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012

    Hi All,
I have gone thru multiple threads and would like to understand some steps in detail for me to upgrade SQL 2005 to SQL 2012.
Below is my understanding and questions around it, I would be setting up a new environment with OS 2007/2008 with SQL 2012:
Environment Readiness - Ensure new environment is ready with Win 2007/2008 with SQL 2012 Server
Run Upgrade Advisor on the new environment and point to SQL 2005 instance
Find the breaking/discontinued changes to be done before or After Upgrade
<Question>: Over here I would like to know what should be our approach to make the required changes
<Question>: Obviously I should not be making changes directly on the Production SQL 2005 server, then in that case should I take a backup/restore on the new SQL Server 2012 and then make the required changes to the database objects
like (Table schema(changing column names/datatypes etc.), Stored Procedure, Functions & Views)
<Question>: When I do a backup/restore I would also get the data along with it, so is this a recommended approach or should we only run/use the table schema creation scripts, fix the issues identified by UA and then do an Table to Table import,
    any thoughts on this ?
<Question>: If I have to do a table to table Import then I should ensure there's a downtime during the Import or would I have any other better approach
So, basically my questions are around the approach of fixing the issues identified by UA and moving the database to SQL Server 2012 environment, I have around 300 databased to me upgraded.
Please do let me know what should be a good/proven approach ? Pl. do let me know if you would need any more details from me.
    ---Umesh

    Thanks all for the replies.
I am trying summarize what I have understood here:
Document SQL Server 2005 environment details, Is there any tool which could give us all relevant details
I would take the backup from the SQL Server 2005 Production environment and then restore the same in a test environment which again has SQL Server 2005 and Run Upgrade Advisor on that
Probbaly run SQL Profiler as well to find out the deprecated changes to be done
I should fix all the breaking, discontinued changes on the Test system identified by UA
I should fix all the deprecated changes on the Test system identified by SQL Profiler
Steps 3 & 4 should give me the changed scripts for all database objects (i.e. Table Schema, Stored Procedures, Functions & Views)
<Question> Perform test, I understand this acitivity test can be captured by having SQL profiler running in the background on the SQL Server 2005 production environment where we can identify some days in a week or a month where maximum activity is
expected to ensure we cover most the scenarios, let me know is this approach looks fine or is there a better approach
Now, with regards to acutal upgrade I need to identify a time window where in less activity is done during which I could have a downtime for the actual SQL Server 2005 production environment
Post downtine, I should do a BackUp for all databases from SQL Server 2005 production environment
Test on environment readiness of SQL Server 2012 can be compared against the documentation done as part of the first Step
<Question> Ideally I should a restore first in the new environment which has SQL Server 2012
<Question> Then run the Scripted changes where we fixed all the breaking, discontinued & deprecated changes
<Question> Does above sequence of Step 9 & 10 make sense or is there a better approach of doing it
<Question> Post Upgrade and running of changed scripts, I should run the Upgrade Advisor again and see if everything looks fine
<Question> Perform test again which we ran on SQL Server 2005 Test environment
<Question> These steps should complete the Upgrade process.
Please do let me know if the above sequence look ok to all of you and does it really work in a practical scenario, do let me know your feedback or any change in sequence/process or any other tools that can be used here.
    Thanks Again ...

  • Siebel 7.8 -- 8 upgrade process and environments

    Hi,
I'm new to Siebel Upgrade and I'm trying to figure out the upgrade process searching on the bookshelf and white papers (best practices).
I still can't comprehend the upgrade architecture and where the new Siebel sw (for ex. Siebel 8 in my case) has to be installed:
Let's suppose to have 3 starting environments: development (7.8), test/production replication (7.8) and production (7.8).
According to the bookshelf there's an initial phase (and this is valid for development environment too) called "upgrade infrastructure" in which they talk about "upgrading" the server, gateway, SWSE, etc. and about installing Siebel software.
For example at pag. 26 in Upgrade Guide version 8.1, during the development environment upgrade explanation, you can read:
"...Upgrade the Gateway Name Server, Siebel Servers, and Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE).
For information upgrading these Siebel Enterprise components, see Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using.
3 - Install the Siebel Database Server files on the Siebel Server you will use to perform the upgrade.
You only need to install the database server files for the database type that you are upgrading.
4 Install language packs for your currently deployed languages and any new languages...."
Now, starting with a 7.8 development environment, what do they mean: Do I need to install on the same development box (where the 7.8 already resides) also a new 8 development environment (server, gateway, etc.) in order to execute the development upgrade process?
And then, should I install another new 8 environment on the Production/Test machine, in order to perform the production/test environment?
Finally, should I use the test machine (once all is tested as the new production environment?
Probably I'm a bit confused. Can you help me?
    Thank you,
    Best Regards

Your upgrade process depends on how you want to carry out.
For a Inplace upgrade, whicih means you will be using the existing hardware where earlier version exists, you need to uninstall the earlier version install the new version and the kick of your siebel database upgrade.
The other process is where you obtain new hardware, in this case install new version of siebel software as per requirements and then start your siebel database upgrade. For this you may need to replicate your existing siebel database.
This process applies to all the environments.

  • Upgrade PHYSICAL STANDBY database to 10g from 9i

    Hello everybody,
Please can you provide me the details for Manual upgrading 9i STANDBY database to 10g. Any special parameters that we have to set on the Primary database..
Any sites with the information available would be great.
    Thanks everybody for your help.

There is no in-place upgrade process to move from 9i to 10g. You have to upgrade your primary and then reinstantiate your standby (using Oracle10g). You may like to keep your 9i standby in tact until your upgrade of 9i primary to 10g is completely successful.....just to ensure that you have a fast, easy and reliable fall-back plan.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade of standby database

I'd like to upgrade my standby database form 8.0.6 to 9.2.
Is anyone having a manual or procedure to upgrade a standby database ?
    Thank you.
    Eric

I believe that the process is basically identical to the process outlined in the Migration Guide http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96530/toc.htm.
For a standby database, though, you have to ensure that you apply all the 8.0.6 log files first, then upgrade the primary, then update the standby, then start applying the 9.2 log files.

Still the automatic update process bothers me: it took me several days to discover the reason to the malfunction, since when I removed the problematic version from Add and Remove Programs, I didn't pay attention at first that it was another version, not v26 which I installed from my folder.
In addition, I like to save the installation files before I run new programs and if I didn't have v26 exe file, I couldn't have operated Mozilla at all. Not that it was fun to remove and install again each time v27 didn't react, but it was better than nothing, I still prefer Mozilla over its competition.

  • High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

    Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
    clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
    Thanks.
    Chee Wee.

    Hello,
After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.

    Configure maxdop on the instance.

If the above does not solve the issue, let us know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Moving from 32-bit to a 64-bit OS how will this impact ebs upgrade process

we are planning to upgrade from ebs 11.5.10.2 to r12.1 .3
My concern is since we will be moving from 32-bit to a 64-bit OS how will this impact our upgrade process?

    Hi;
we are planning to upgrade from ebs 11.5.10.2 to r12.1 .3
My concern is since we will be moving from 32-bit to a 64-bit OS how will this impact our upgrade process?I assume your EBS single machine. EBS r11 is not certified wiht 64 bit OS.So you need to upgrade first than migrate it 64 bit
    See:
    32bit to 64 bit migration-EBS-Linux
    EBS r12 migrate 32-bit to 64-bit.
