Invoke methods at defered time - timing problems

Hello !
My C code contains two functions to implement JNI for Java methods invocation :
- InitFunction loads JVM and stores class to call :
JNI_CreateJavaVM(...)
cls= ...->FindClass(...)
/* g_cls is a global variable */
g_cls = ...->NewGlobalRef(..., cls)
/* g_myMethod is a global variable */
g_myMethodID = ->GetStaticMethodID(..., g_cls, method, ...)
- CallFunction invokes java method
...->CallStaticVoidMethod( ..., g_cls, g_myMethodID, args ) ;
When CallFunction is run inside InitFunction, no problem occurs.
But when it is called later, it doesn't, raising a error.
Do I have to store jni-environment variable in a global reference, I can I do this?
Thank you for help!
JCC

The jvm either has to exists or has to be created.
The proper way to do this depends on your application.
If you want the same jvm then you should keep an instance somewhere or use the JNI method that returns the current JVM (it actually returns an array but only the first array index has anything.) This means that you should also plan on terminating the jvm sometime also.

  • FP Get Image Invoke Method Problem

    I am having trouble with the Invoke Method FP Get Image (I discovered the problem by trying to use the Report Generation Toolkit -> Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi).  I am trying take an image of the entire Front Panel (not just visible) and write it to a word report.  I have software that did this beautifully in LV 8.2.1, but I recently upgraded it to 8.5.1 and it no longer works correctly.  I have attached an image to illustrate the problem.  You can see that most of the front panel exists in the image, but I have an array of XY graphs that only exists as seen on the visible front panel.  I have tried explicitly setting the option to image the entire front panel with the same results.  I dont understand how the other parts of the front panel (the numbers for each graph exist as a table of strings and are overlayed ontop of the graph, there is also a summary graph on the bottom left as well as some text on the bottom right; all of this shows up even though it is not on the visible front panel).  If anyone has seen this or something similar I would love to hear how you handled it.
    Thanks!

    Hello.  I have built a simplified version of the software that shows the problem I am having.  Please feel free to take a look and make suggestions for either a fix or workaround.  I have been in touch with an AE via phone support so NI knows about and is working on this problem.
    Thanks!
    I apologize for the double post, having some internet issues at work and I didnt think the previous post had been sent.

  • Get image invoke method gives blank image when I try to capture waveform graph picture

    Hello
    I am facing problem when try to capture waveform graph picture using invoke method Get image and write JPEG function, some times it gives blank images.I am using these functions inside nested loops.
    ObservationsWith reference to attached VI)
    (1) Sometimes  I found it captures images correctly when i run labview program first time but after that it starts writing blank images.
    (2) Whenever i use flat sequence structure for waveform graph and get image node it always gives blank picture which indicates that execution of waveform graph and Get image should not be sequential.
    (3) Whenever it gives blank image i checked the image data which is not valid data so it indicates problem is with Get image method or labview program flow(may be race condition between waveform graph and Get image method).
           I have attached vi ,please change path name and folder name in which images are being saved.I'm using labview 8.5.1 .

    You are correct. If you pre-populate, it will be the requester. The requester would need to manually populate the field during the request with the requestee information. And there is only one form available. You can however, after submission of the request, get the request data, parse the Consolidated Request Data to determine the id's in the request field, and then return appropriate responses to trigger the tasks needed. This will still be a problem in the long run because you can't change the requestee information for each approval task. You're pretty much out of luck on this one.

  • Error -50400 occurred at Invoke Method: FIFO.Read in Host.vi

    Hey there,
    we have sensors on an Engine which are connected to a NI cRIO 9014 board (with a NI9411 6-channel digital input modul) and go from there via network to a host computer.
    cRIO board: the cRIO board collects the data from the engine and stores it in a buffer, this is because the network is to slow for the magnitude of data
    host computer: the host computer reads over the network the buffer on the cRIO board, on the host computer it takes out specific portions of the data to create pressure graphs of the engine
    Error:
    Error -50400 occurred at Invoke Method: FIFO.Read in Host.vi
    Possible reason(s):
    The transfer did not complete within the timeout period or within the specified number of retries.
    This error occurs in the following scenario:
    - engine is running
    - cRIO is running
    When I press the start button (boolean 3) in the host.VI to start the reading of the data from the board AFTER I pressed the run button of the host VI.
    The Error would not occur if I pressed the start button (boolean 3) BEFORE I pressed the run button of the host VI.
    We tried to increase the time out, but it still did not work, the error occurs!
    We would be really happy if you could look over it and help us in this case! If you need further informations or if we need to clarify some specific portion, please let us know!
    We included the VI's in the attachement!
    Thanks in advance!

    Chrisse,
    There are a few things wrong in your application, if I may offer some suggestions.
    First, your while loops are not running in parallel.  In fact, they are in while loops with a true constant wired to them. I am not sure if this is by design for debugging, or on accident.  I would put the Polling(read pulling zero elements) outside your main while loop.
    Your second nested while loop (the one polling the # of elements and then pulling them out) is going to run just once, and may pull only a few samples.  I don't think that is what you are looking for here, and there are a couple ways we can go here.  You could continuously poll until you have 0 elements available for x amount of time, then you know you have no more samples available and you can process all the data OR you can put all of your data processing as part of that loop and just always write to file immediately as x samples are pulled.
    Also, your main loop's stop condition is (i <= 3) Therefore, it will run once and then stop.  Maybe you mean >=3?
    Also, you have 'append to file' disabled on your write to spreadsheet, so everytime you write you are overwriting old data.  If you want to continuously write, you will be losing data.  This can be cured by either setting this to true(requiring a new file name or programatically deleting the old spreadsheet every time you run the vi) OR you can collect all of your data in a shift register, and only write to file once you have all your data available.
    The error you are seeing is because you try to close your FPGA reference twice.  You only need to close it once.
    After seeing your overall picture, I think this can all be cured by simply hardwiring your Read to get your 1440X4 elements, but as we have seen, this does not work.  Something is happening in your system....this is what I want you to do...run just the following code...and let me know how many elements remaining it gives you...Once the number has settled(I hope it does and your engine doesn't keep running), hit stop, and all the values will be put on a graph for you.  My broken wires are because I do not have the FPGA VI.

  • Time offset problems with file i/o

    Hello everyone, I'm having a problem with the file i/o VI's. I require my application to save serial data at constant five minute intervals. The problem I'm currently seeing is that on each save to a file a time offset is being added which eventually becomes seconds, then minutes and so on. Since this application is meant to be run for a whole year this is a serious problem.
    Attached is the VI, an Arduino program simulating how the DAQ sends data and a file showing my time offset problem.
    Any ideas/suggestions/fixes are appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jose Molina
    P.S.
    To run the VI upload the code to an Arduino, select it's serial port in the popup VI then click on Ok. The VI will wait for a time that is a modulo of 5 then create a folder structure inside the same location as the LLB. Inside this folder structure should be a file with the data which should be saved every five minutes if left at the default averaging time.

    Sorry I forgot to mention that the averaging time is configurable in the pop up vi at the start. I tried 20 seconds because it's much faster for testing than 5 minutes. Timing is being done by a simple counter that increments each time data is received. So if I receive data the timer increments by 5 because data is sent every 5 seconds. Once the timer is equal to the averaging time the data is sent to the enqueue function and then the blocking dequeue function on the second loop sends the data to the file save vi which then saves the data to the file.

  • Invoke Method: Run VI produces error when run as an application

    Hello,
    I have upgraded from LabView 7.0 to 2009. One test program uses Run VI Invoke Method to start the main UI. On LabView 7.0 it works OK , when build as an application, but with LabView 2009 it gives error 1003: Invoke Node xxx.vi <APPEND> VI Path: xxx. (I have checked that the path to "Open VI Reference" is correct.)
    When run on LabView 2009 development environment (.vi) - no problem. I used the "Convert built script.." tool to convert to LabView 2009 built specifications. I have tried numerous different variations building application with LabView 2009 (including main UI files, different setups, etc.), but no luck. If someone has any ideas...
    -timo

    Maybe it helps you for debugging:
    I checked the property for the broken arrow. You need a property node and go Select Class 'Vi Server'->'VI' (skip this in your Application but navigate to the VI via the server and feed it to the node). Then it is Execution->State.
    I need to draw some code to do it for me as well, once I'm done I'll post it here.

  • Running a vi using run vi invoke method

    Hello,
    I have a question about the run vi invoke method.
    I have a start vi and a stop vi.  When I run the start vi, it uses the run vi invoke method to call a third vi.  I want the third vi to run until I call the stop vi which sets a global causing the third vi to stop.  Now this seems to work ok when I have the third vi open.  But if the third vi is not open, it will stop running when the start vi stops.  Is there any way to make it run past the execution time of the start vi without having it open?
    Thanks for any help!

    The attached VIs (LV v7.1.1) will do what you describe.

  • Reg reboot issue - console message- svc:/network/iscsi/target:default: Method or service exit timed out

    Hi,
    When I reboot the system I am seeing this message on the console and system is not getting rebooted.
    svc.startd[10]: svc:/network/iscsi/target:default: Method or service exit timed out. Killing contract 131.
    can someone help me to solve this?

    There are still a few issues with Solaris 11.1 and iSCSI LUN and rebooting. I know they are working on fixes.
    A possible workaround is to use the reboot command and NOT the init command. At least when you use the reboot the command the system will reboot and not hang.
    If this is not your problem then it may be a different problem.

  • Can anyone help me with Labview/GPIB timing problems?

    I am trying to use a very simple VI (downloaded from the NI site) to control a Newport 1830C optical power meter.
    I have been spending most of my time trying to use the VI issue a command to read the current displayed power. When I run the VI normally, I get no response from the meter, and the VI simply terminates without any error message. (The "remote" indicator does light on the meter, though, so it seems to be receieving the command.)
    However, when I run the VI in the "highlight exectution" mode, everything seems to work just fine, and I receive a correct reading from the meter! Needles to say, this makes it really hard to debug the problem.
    My guess is that I have some kind of timing problem, and t
    he "highlight execution" feature fixes it by introducing delays. Is this correct? If so, how can I achieve the same thing by putting in delays by hand?
    thanks, Whitney White

    Whitney,
    I agree that this is very likely to be a timing issue. VIs run much slower in highlight execution mode, therefore your instrument may need more time to prepare the data you have requested. Try wiring a delay inline prior to the GPIB reads and/or writes, or try using Service Requests (SRQs) to give the instrument enough time to generate the data it needs to send back to the computer.
    Another possibility is that your instrument may not be IEEE 488 compliant. Some older instruments indicate that they are ready to receive data before they really are. Try changing the GPIB bus timing to the slowest setting (in the GPIB Configuration Utility). This only affects the time that the GPIB controller waits before valid data is on the bus and the DAV line i
    s asserted (a step in the GPIB handshaking that occurs each time a byte of information is sent to the device) so this may not be effective.
    Lastly, you may wish to try the instrument driver for your instrument. There is a contributed driver at this location: LabVIEW Traditional Instrument Driver: Newport Optical Power Meter 1830C. A 'contributed driver' means that someone outside of National Instruments wrote the driver and then submitted it for posting. This driver also contains a good example of adding a time out.

  • Error 1026 invalid reference at runVI invoke method in main exe- subVI- subpanel

    Hello,
    I have a main VI which have subVI's inside case structures set up to show FP when called and be modal.
    These subVIs have a subpanel that will pull up a dynamicVI using RunVI invoke method.The dymaicVIs path is built using application directory constant+the VI name to the invoke method.
    now the main VI is built into exe with the dynamicVIs in always included list.
    when i run the main exe i am getting 1026 error VI reference invalid.
    Plz help
    Thanks
    Solved!

    Hi Freemason,
    The problem could be coming from the use of relative paths, because the path can sometimes change when building an application. Double check to make sure they are calling the right path. You can also try changing the AutoDispose Refnum in your run VI invoke node to false. It is one of the methods you can select in your run VI invoke node. If neither of these solutions work, run your code using the highlight execution function. If you implemented error handling in your program, you should be able to see the source of the error.
    If you’re still having issues, could you post some screenshots or your actual VI? I may be able to get a better idea of the issue that way. I’ve also attached an example VI that uses multiple subVIs and a subpanel for reference.  Hope this helps.
