InvokeEvent/App Focus weirdness

I have an Air app that is designed to minimize to the system tray whenever it loses focus. The app can be maximized by clicking from the tray or from hotkeys. To maximize from hotkeys we have a native OS app (a windows .exe for now) that listens for the hotkeys and then attempts to launch the air exe file. We capture the invokeEvent in the Air app and maximize the window using activate(). All this works fine, however if there are other open windows onscreen that have focus the app does not consistently receive keyboard and mouse focus when maximized from hotkeys. Setting alwaysOnTop is a partial fix but when the app is maximized from hotkeys and does not receive focus then it also does not minimize properly as it doesn't have focus to begin with.
Anyone have ideas or experience with this? It seems that the invokeEvent is only getting called once so there is no collision of events or any similar weirdness.
Any help would be appreciated.

We have a LOB app we’ve been running for years. Hosted locally and runs on a couple dozen machines on our network. When an update is available, a generic “Updates are available” box appears as soon as the app is launched…and it has of course the regular ‘ol “install / skip” buttons. All have been working near flawlessly for about 5 years now.Two weeks ago I found 3 machines never got a recent update. So I went and launched it myself – the “updates available” didn’t appear like normal. Only 3 have this symptom. The rest got the notice and users could update just like normal.
Everyone is on the domain, Windows 7, 64bit, and each of these logins are in the admin group (for those who must use this app). I know, I know – I’d change it if I could but I’m not the boss and it falls on deaf ears when I mention it...moving on, lol.

Camera app acting weird - not saving photos - iphone 6 plus

I just got my iphone 6 plus... I'm trying to use the stock camera app and it's acting weird. I'm able to focus and take a photo... after I take a pic, you know how the little thumbnail of that photo appears on the bottom left of the app? You should be able to touch that and then view in full screen your last pic, right? Well here is when it starts acting up... When I touch it, nothing happens! I exit the app and go to the photos app and my picture isn't there! The app doesn't appear to freeze - as I can still view the screen and what the camera is looking at! Before the 1st photo is "taken" I am able to choose between any of the photo types (square, pano, video, slo mo, time lapse)... but the same thing will happen no matter which photo I choose. If I pick a video, the video begins and then the touch part doesn't work... the video will run on 'forever' or until i press the home button - in which case the video isn't saved.
I have restarted my phone many times... and even done the power cycle (where you hold the sleep/lock and home button at same time)
Any ideas? Please help - this is a 2 day old phone and the camera doesn't work properly.
What is really weird is that I can post a photo taken by instagram with no problem.. I can also use the Camera Awesome app but the photos aren't saved in the photos app... even if I try to export to camera roll in camera awesome!

After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
- If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
- If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.

When closing an app, focus doesn't return to previously open app

Just as the subject line says. Is there a way to make OS X Leopard revert to the previously open window after closing an app? Perfect example: I open a pdf file from a website, and Preview opens to display the file. I close Preview when done but Firefox is not focused. I then have to click inside the Firefox window to make Firefox active, then I can resume whatever I'm doing in FF. Thanks.

Typically, focus will return to the previously active application when a second is quit. In the example you have given, however, my assumption would be that: 1) you have downloaded the PDF with Firefox, then 2) you opened the downloaded PDF by double-clicking on it.
This second action on your part would naturally have been done within the Finder. As such, the Finder would be the "previously active" application, and will be the application that becomes active after Preview is quit.
One way around this particular scenario would be to right-click (control-click) the downloaded file, and choose "Open" from the contextual menu. This is possible without actually making the FInder the active application. When the second application (Preview, in this case) is quit, the previous app will be come active, not the Finder.

Ugh! Please restore old Terminal.app focus-follows-mouse behavior!

The 10.4 and prior Terminal.app's focus-follows-mouse feature allowed one to type into the terminal by mousing over it even if the Terminal wasn't the currently focussed application. It didn't focus Terminal when you did this, but did direct keyboard input to it.
10.5's Terminal.app only allows focus follows mouse to work when it's the focussed application, which destroys about 80% of this feature's usability for me. I like to keep things like finder and browser windows overlapping most of a terminal window and then just slide the mouse over to the terminal to type there, and I can no longer do that in 10.5. Now I have to click on the Terminal window, bringing all my terminal windows forward and obscuring the windows I wanted on top. Very annoying.
Is there any way to restore the old behaviour? If not, can we please have it back?
Luckily, 10.4's Terminal.app still behaves properly in 10.5, so I'm using it, but I'd like to have some of the new features of 10.5's Terminal.app. Unfortunately, "broken" focus-follows-mouse is a deal-breaker for me.

The command I know,
defaults write com.apple.Terminal FocusFollowsMouse -string Yes
seems to work about the same in Leopard as in Tiger for me. I don't remember ever being able to get focus-follows-mouse behaviour to work in a non-active application from an active non-focus-follows-mouse application. In other words one can focus follows mouse from one Terminal to another, but not from Finder to Terminal.
The X11 equivalent (why the inconsistent key and value?) is
defaults write com.apple.X11 wm_ffm -bool true
I remember being able to focus-follows-mouse between Terminal and X11, but cannot in Leopard. However, I also cannot in Tiger 10.4.11 either, so maybe it is my memory that is faulty.
What I don't seem to be able to do, but could do in Tiger, is
defaults write com.apple.X11 swapaltmeta -int 1
On Tiger, that would make the option key the meta key, so that e.g. alt-d would delete forward one word, etc. On Leopard, this seems to be a NOP which means that cmd is the only possible meta key, which I personally find rather confusing.

Q10 Text Messages app behaves weird

Hi,
After I ugraded to the latest OS 10.2, the Text Messages app in my Q10 has gone crazy. Although the conversation updates smoother than it used to do before but I have noticed that when a conversation is updating quickly and there are messages coming in quick, the whole conversation goes blank and it gets stuck in that same conversation. Even when I close the editor and open it again, I get to the same conversation everytime when I try to write a new message but I cant write anything. The only key that works on that stuck conversation screen is that "Previous Screen" key at the bottom left. The only solution is that I have to restart my device to make it work right again. That is so annoying!
Another thing is when I am texting fast and keep writing separate texts in a conversation, what happens is that the last word of the last sent message stays and copies itself to the editor field. I have to erase it and then write the new message. Never seen this thing before in Bold 9790.
Am I the only one with this weird problem?

Apps acting weird and doing actions against my will.

Hello I'm here to write about the latest issue I got on my iPhone 5c, while I was writing a message my app started acting weird. Successively I moved to another app and it did the same thing so I suppose it's a general problem.
Ex: while I write my iPhone clicks and opens other options on the page by itself.
While I scroll down on tumblr app it clicks other options by itself like unfollow, changes pages, as if I clicked those options but I didn't.
Like on whatsapp for instance, while I write it opens the user id, the user info, shuts the keyboard down as if I did it but I didn't at all.
Also now while I'm here writing this sometimes it acts as if I clicked on he top bar and opens the http:// of this page, but I didn't.
While I'm on drafts/notes app it does the same, I wrote a long message last night hoping it would help being that out of an app which needs connection but it happen again; while I was about to finish it clicked the delete button by itself and everything disappeared.
Also now again, I luckily copied this email line by line in order to prevent it from delete everything I wrote again.
I just need to know if there's something I can do or if I should just take it back to an apple store since it's still pretty new..

Wrong icon for app. Weird.

Anyone know how to get the app icons on the iPhone to have their correct icons? Turned on my phone today and half the icons are wrong. Fandango has WebMD icon etc… Very weird.

Mail.app acting weird...

A friend of mine recently bought the new iMac 20". I'm helping her convert over to the Mac world, which hasn't gone very well. The first thing we did was try to setup her mail accounts, ((2 of them - .mac and work). When setting this up, .mac account was easy. The work email was more difficult. At first, the account would receive email but not send. After 3 pain staking nights after work, and with no help from Apple Care, which I was hung up on, we finally paid a visit to the Genius Bar.
Come to find out, using mail.app required a SSL connection when using the outgoing mail server. (Outlook and Entourage both do not require the SSL connection. At least it wasn't checked and both apps receive email.)
OK...so now I get to the reason for my post.
After a long weekend, my friend tries to get her work email, but is unable to. Here's the thing... she can send email but she can't get email. Total opposite of when we first set the account up.
Using Mail Connection Doctor says that it times out when trying to connect to the server using SSL and the port #. However, she can get email on her iPhone and on my laptop using Entourage. (I tested her work account to see if it would work with Entourage before she bought the iMac, thinking she would use that instead of Mail.app. When we were at the store prior to her buying the iMac, she was so impressed with how Mail.app interacted with iCal, and the Address Book, that I tried to set her up using the apps that were already installed.)
Has anyone had this trouble with Mail.app? It has been working for about 2 weeks now with no problems. Here are the things that I tried:
- retype the password - Did not work.
=>Not sure if this did anything because sometimes it would when I go to click onto "General" so that I could save, and then go back to the "Accounts" the pw field would be blank, and sometimes it wasn't.
- changed the port from 997 to 587 - No go
- Used the rebuild option. - No go
- restarted the computer - No go
- Tried no using SSL - No go
I was going to recreate the account, but I wasn't sure if I would loose all of the settings (mail, folders, etc.) that she has already established with this current account.
Any Ideas???

Partial Uninstall of App Leaving Weird Install Volume (Terminal fun, too)

I installed Sonarr about a week ago on my Mac (running the latest OS X) and followed all the steps on this page (http://www.htpcguides.com/install-nzbdrone-osx/) (minus the Automater steps as I went with the plist method) and then found out it wouldn't work out for me. I couldn't find uninstall instructions so I ended up just deleting the files. Since then, however, I've noticed the installer volume will sometimes appear when I start my MBP or sometimes an installer will appear when I try to shut down/restart, stopping the process. I think this may have something to do with my improper uninstallation (maybe something with the plist commands not being undone).
Does anyone know what I can do to properly remove all traces of this app from my Mac based on the instructions I linked to? As said, I think the big issue is the plist stuff I put in Terminal, so how could I undo this:
Type this command in Terminal to create the plist file
sudo nano /Library/LaunchDaemons/nzbdrone.plist
Paste this code for the NzbDrone plist

FireFox stealing app focus

Setup: FireFox 26.0 is running on OSX and open to a web page that uses javascript. The FireFox window can either be in the background or minimized, while any other application is in the foreground.
Problem: If the web page in FireFox inserts an HTML5 <embed> tag via javascript, FireFox mistakenly takes the application focus at that OS level.
To be clear, this behavior is inconsistent with the other browsers. It does not happen with Chrome, Safari nor Opera on OSX, nor should it. A well-behaved should remain in the background if put there by the user.
I suspect, given the number of support requests about this issue, that it has not been forwards to your developers.

After 10 seconds a sound will play and FireFox will have moved on top of and taken away keyboard input from the email application.
It occurs to me that this is also a security risk. A malicious web page could be designed to cause a DOS attack of sorts, preventing the user from switching away from FireFox.

Ok - i have de-authorised and re-authorised my laptop and i still cannot transfer my apps from the library in itunes. Everything is ticked and i sync fine but just none of the apps!

Hi, I have my ipod set up to automatically sync when i connect it. I have even tried to drag & drop, copy the apps folder from my library and paste in to my ipod section when it is connected, i have also tried to copy them manually. there is no icon on my list of buttons when you right click on the ipod. It is there..it appears as a tab on the top along with info, music etc...I've tried to check my restrictions and they all appear to be fine - all disabled and showing greyed out set at 'on'....
It's gonna take a genius to work out why?! LOL
So...what else can i try??

App Store - Weird Thing Occurring With App Updates

I'd like to know if any of you are experiencing the same thing as I describe below.
Today I opened the App Store, saw an available update for one of my apps and I clicked "update" and the download and install completed. Sounds normal right? Well not so normal.... I DO NOT keep my Apple ID logged in. When I click "update" it is supposed to ask for me to log in. The updates downloaded and installed without me having to be logged in! This happened twice to me today, for two different apps, hours apart. I am wondering if there is a bug or glitch on Apple's end. Have any of you experienced this before? I am concerned about security. As it stands anyone can pick up my phone and download and install apps (if they know or can bypass my phone password of course).

Updates to apps that you have already purchased and installed will update, download and install without a passcode. that is normal. The purchase/download of new apps will not happen without the passcode being entered. This is not a bug, it is working as designed. Protection for new, but updates to something you have already downloaded happens without intervention.

How do you disable OS X (when you focus on a window) from auto-focusing on windows from the same (or similar) program on another screen

I have what is quickly becoming a major nuisance, I hope someone here knows more than me (hopefully about to change this behaviour..?).
Whenever I click on e.g. excel on one screen, the excel windows in the background on my other screen is automatically brough to the front, hiding the window I actually want to be able to see. And if I have no excel windows on that screen, it will automatically bring e.g. MS word to the front instead.
Does anyone know of a way to disable this extremely annoying behaviour? It seems silly to have to minimize every single window (yes, I have a lot open at any given time, and need to transfer data between several different programs) just to be able to look at windows from two different programs at the same time.

this is NOT how apps behave on a Windows PC. There, the different windows of any app focus independently.
Mmm, no, not really. All Windows apps run inside an application frame. Nothing for that app can exist outside the frame. Once you are in the frame of a given app, all of (example) Excel's open documents are also stuck inside the frame. Along with any palettes or other objects for that app. You can take it off full screen display like below, but each app, and everything associated with it is in its own frame.
I mention this to show that you can do the same thing on your Mac. Where you said:

The equivalent on the Mac is to press Command+` (same key as the tilde ~, which should be directly above the Tab key). So it's Command+Tab to switch between apps, and Command+` to rotate between open documents within an app.
So anyway, in the same manner you would arrange your Windows apps as shown above so you can see the contents of both apps, you simply arrange your Mac apps' documents the same way. Adjust the size of each open document as necessary so you can see the relevant information.
Just like if a person were going from Mac to Windows, it's "different". Folders, files and apps? All the same concept. Saving and deleting files? Pretty much the same. But if you're very used to one, the other seems odd until the need to think about "simple" steps that aren't performed quite the same way as the OS you're used to becomes habit, and it no longer seems odd anymore.

No emails in mail.app

mail.app act weird since a few weeks. It doesnt show the emails for one particular account I have.
Everything syncs, it shows the new mails I receive, but when I click on the mailbox, its empty.
At some point, when I restarted the computer, it became fine, but its like this (look at the attached pic)
all the time.
On the outlook website and on my iphone, everything works perfectly. So it's mail.app issue.

We may have to wait for an update. Aside from changing the country, I'm not sucre this can be done. There is no Health App in the System preferences and no way to modify from within the app. Weird.
If you go to Language & Region under general settings and choose any other country, you will get Metric. I have the opposite problem. I live in a Metric country and want my health app to be in lbs and inches which is what I am used to.
