  • HT5312 Hi, I've forgotten my username and security questions and now locked my account.  Tried contacting apple support but it wont accept my telephone number. I can't chat with Apple as I don't have a contact.  Is there a support contact number please? T

Just trying to back up my data. I have now closed my email account of my original email so cant receive email or remember security questions.  Tried setting up another account but it doesnt allow access to iCloud.  Now managed to lock my account for 8 hours.  Unable to Chat with Apple as I dont have a contract.   Tried submitting a telephone request - it just tells me to add a valid number (which I did offer up home and mobile) neither of which were accepted.  So completely stuck after starting this 5 hours ago.  Does anybody know if Apple has a telephone support contact number please that I can ring and actually speak to somebody?  Thanks!

You'd selected the correct country for you and your iTunes account ? The form has validation to check that the phone number is valid for the country that you select.
If your country appear on this page then try the link/number for it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

  • Telephone solicitation from "Microsoft security contractors"I

Frequently receive phone calls from those claiming to be Microsoft contractors.  They say "you're having problems with your computer."  I ask how they know.
Please clarify whether there really are "Microsoft Contractors" who make unsolicited phone calls to Windows users.

Microsoft and Microsoft contractors never make unsolicited phone calls to consumers. In fact, they never send unsolicited email messages. This is a scam to either steal your identity or install malicious software on your computer.

    Hi,
I forgot the security questions and I have no way to recover it.
My country is Perú, and we don't have a support telephone number. The support page does not give me another chance, neither a e-mail for contact them.
What can I do in this situation
    Regards,

Click here and fill out the form. You may be told to use the Mexico or Brazil phone numbers.

  • Security Stories - funny and not-so-funny

Here we are on the last day of this event.  Lots of good questions and answers.
I don't have anything useful to contribute, so I'll start this thread with a couple of stories illustrating how easy it is to get into trouble on the interwebs. You can have all the security software in the world, but it won't eliminate PEBKAC. I blame a certain community supermod for encouraging this...
    1) My wife yelled at me that her computer was messed up.  (It's always my fault)  She couldn't open an email attachment.  I asked her to show me.  It was from a familiar email address, but the contents were in broken English and the attachment was waaay suspicious.  She was just curious to see what it was.
The reason she couldn't open it was that the AV software had popped up a window screaming "do you really, really want to to open this!!!!!"  Fortunately the popup was behind the browser window and she couldn't click "OK".
    2) A co-worker complained that his desktop had been running slow for a month or so.  I immediately noticed that the NIC LED was constantly blinking.  Welcome to the botnet.  We started playing 20 questions, and I finally got this out of him:
He had gotten an email - seemingly from corporate HQ (we were briefly owned by a large company) saying something like "Corporate has discovered infections on several machines.  If you find a file "..\windows\system32\something-important.dll" remove it immediately!"  He did.  24 hours later here came another email "Sincere apologies.  The previous email was incorrect, and we should not have asked you to remove that dll.  Please reinstall the attached file."  He did.  Hilarity ensued.
He didn't bother to run this by the IT guy (me, sort of) for a month.
    3) A co-worker's spouse was visiting, and asked to use our wifi connection to conduct some of her business.  She needed to contact the mother ship in another state.  Check her email - or so I thought.  After a while, she came into my office and said something like " the IT guy at my office needs the password to your router.  He needs to change your firewall settings so my app will work."  He was running a remote desktop on her machine and had already tried to fiddle the router without asking.
    Insane.  Criminally.
Anyone care to add to this?  Or petition the mods to remove it?

Good idea, Z.  A bit of levity doesn't detract from learning.
    True story:
On one of the forums I admin, there was someone who was having ongoing problems with his computer.  He was a regular contributor to the forum, although in the general areas, not with computer help.  The problem I encountered with him is that he wouldn't follow through or would avoid answering questions that were directed at determining the nature of the problem.  Instead, he would claim to reinstall the OS and all would be well . . . for a while anyway.
Finally we learned the real reason he had ongoing problems with his computer.
    QUOTE:
"i am CERTAIN it is running hot, b/c, among other things, I cover all the airvents with a TOWEL while it is running!
yeah, i kno this is not ideal, but there are reasons (flying liquids!) why I am afraid to leave it exposed. anyway, i figured this was adding wear and tear to the machine, but i didn't think it was a cause of big problems in the SHORT-term.
HOWEVER, last night i left it uncovered (lid closed but no towel) and pointed a FAN at it. as of this morning (11 hrs or so) it is STILL running w/o a crash!"

  • TS5223 After my iphone updated to ios7, it reverted back to my old icloud account which I do not know the password, do not have access to the email it sends the reset to and the reset for security options say my birthday information is wrong.

Help!!! I've lost all of my contacts and information after the ios7 update. After the update I plugged my phone into my MacBook and it reverted back to my old icloud account. I checked my MacBook and everything on there is connected to my new icloud account. I'm not sure why this has happened, but I have been trying for two days to get my new icloud account back. My phone won't allowe to log out of the icloud account it is logged into because I don't know the password. Simple solution, reset the password. Not so simple. I don't have the email address associated with the account anymore. So I attempted the security question option. When I entered my birthdate, it said that it was incorrect. I have tried multiple times and nothing will work. Can someone please help me??

If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

  • HT5312 How do I use my rescue email to reset my security questions?

Ever since I got a new phone in December I haven't been able to make purchases on the App Store (free stuff I can get of course). Whenever I go to buy something it asks for the answers to my security questions. And for some reason all the answers I can think of are being declined.
I checked apple support and it said I can use my rescue email to reset the questions, but when I clicked on the link all it did was tell me why having a rescue email was so important.
How do I reset my security questions??

  • Help needed with data security

I need to return my Thinkpad for service but I am concerned with security. For instance, my facebook account as well as other accounts log on automatically because the passwords are automatically remembered. How do I keep my confidential information safe while the laptop is in the technicians hands?
BTW, one of the problems that it has is that I cannot backup successfully with the lenovo application... I managed to get a backup completed with the windows backup program, but I'm not sure of it's integrity.
Please help me with this, Thanks!

    Hi,
If I understand you correctly, you suspect software problems.
The first thing the techs will do (probably) is re-image your HDD.  I hope you have you important data backed up somewhere - especially if you don't trust the Windows backup.
For that matter, if you do have software issues, restoring a full backup will also restore the problem.
You've probably already considered this, but just in case...

  • How to open -pdf in a secure environment

Opening PDF files from a secured account on Internet (e.g. telephone billing info) does not work. in Safe as the file is shown as _pdf (underscore instead of dot).  We suspect this problem started after installing CS6, but are not sure. Win 7, IE 9, Reader XI

PDF on a regular website can be opened and downloaded. However, PDF on a secure website (https) looks normal with normal icon but double click gives screen for open / save / save as. ‘Open’ gives no result, no error message either. ‘Save’ or ‘save as’ shows screen with filename ending on _pdf, which cannot be opened or saved, no error messages either. Changing the filename into .pdf gives the same reaction: nothing happens, no error messages.
The same files can be opened on a different PC win7, IE9, Reader XI and similar software, but without CS6.

I am trying to reset the Security Questions as I have forgotten them, when I have logged into My Apple Id, and click on the button to reset the Security Questions, it states it is sending an email to the Primary Email address. I do not have the option to input a Rescue Email address, the only option I have is to input an Alternate Email address, which I have done so.
Also when I have tried to book an appointment throuth Online Support, I have not successful, I have rung a telephone number provided by the Mac Store in Perth, Australia and the reply provided is that we are closed. I was given to understand that Apple provided 24/7 Support to their users.

  • How do you change the email destination when you forgot your security question?

Hey! First of all, Thank you for noticing my post! Haha
Alright.. Soo.. This Apple ID was made a long time ago since my iPhone 5 was bought. I was planning to buy an ingame item but Vertification was needed so I was like yeah ok sure. XD Then it started giving me Security questions.
I'm extremely sure I forgot both of the answers to my Security Questions so I decided to change it.
I Went to Appleid.apple.com, logged in successfully, pressed the forgot the answer and it was said to sent to a YAHOO Email.
I used to have this Yahoo Email but I forgot about it since Yahoo decided to deactivate due to inactivement so now I can't change my security answers so I can't proceed with my purchase.
I was wondering if there's a way to change the email ( yahoo ) to my current gmail since I'm way more active on it and I
    can access it easier..?

  • How do I can my rescue email address? I was asked to answer my security questions, but I forgot the answers and realized my rescue address was outdated. I tried adding alternate email addresses, but my faulty rescue address remained the same.

I tried to change my rescue address, since it is outdated, and was not receiving any of the emails from Apple to this faulty address regarding resetting my security questions.
I cannot proceed in regaining full use of my account to make purchases if I do not reset my security questions, and I cannot reset them without receiving such an email, and I have no idea how to change my rescue email. The Apple ID support section of this site was unfortunately unhelpful and led me in circles.
Please help me to change my rescue email address!
If it helps, a few months ago I changed my primary account email, and my old primary address is my faulty rescue address now. It is no longer on my list of addresses but continues to show up as my rescue address.
An additional portion of my question: Is it possible, if I terminate one Apple ID, to move purchases made on that ID, to a new ID? I'm not sure if it's a violation of the terms and conditions if DO NOT keep the purchases on two accounts simultaneously.
