IPad Movie Syncing problem --  Greyed out in "On This iPad"

I have attempted to add "Home Video's" to my iPad.  They are MP4.  I am running the updated versions of ITunes and my Ipad.  I have been struggling with this problem for a while now.  When I check the Ipad, the "On This Ipad" shows the dotted cirlce and the title of the video is greyed out. I have other home videos that I added in a long ago sync that are active, but cannot get these active.  I have tried various settings ie. "Manually Managing Music/Video, Syncing only Checked songs/videos. I have had no success.
When I do go to sync it makes changes in the bar at the bottom of the screen, but then dissapears during the sycning process and reverts back to the orignal.  I Would appreciate some help.

I'm sorry I don't have a solution to post, but just want to say that I too (and I'm sure, among millions of others)  have experienced nothing but frustration and anger at all the ridiculous bugs that have happened seemingly without any interference from the user's end.
I can't even begin to list all the problems I've had since being forced to upgrade to iOS 7 on my iPhone(s) and iPad(s) being a family of Apple users. The OS "Music" app is completely useless now (half of my 1,200 songs are "greyed out" and unplayable), iTunes doesn't sync properly (it absonlutely refuses to transfer songs no matter how many options and selections in the various panes are checked off) and everything is INCREDIBLY slow.
I've read SO many possible solutions and fixes and, really, I don't have the TIME to be reading endless posts and screwing around "experimenting" trying to get it fixed. And Apple, as usual, is mum and nowhere to be found.
My advice to tech companies is to LEAVE THINGS BE -- especially if there is no real improvement. Unless the change significantly improves the functionality—changing the interface, buttons, or even the icons JUST BECAUSE is stupid policy and infuriates those of us whose lives don't live and breathe Apple...and just want a functioning phone.

now before i updated the latest update all was fine..

but still the same as dicribed above.
now i connected my wifes iphone 4s to itunes went to file/devices hey presto itunes reconised it as eg wifes iphone
    but dosnt do for ipod..
    any ideas cheers.

Normally a greyed out Wifi is a hardware failure, but with some of the problems I've seen with the upgrade to iOS 4 on 3G phones, I'm not convinced the problem/problems aren't related to software. I have two suggestions, neither of which are guaranteed to work: 1. Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes & not from backup. But first delete any and all .ipsw files on your computer. This will force itunes to re-download the current OS. The .ipsw file can be found here:
    OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    XP: C:\Documents and Settingsusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    7 & Vista: C:\Usersusername\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
You may have to turn on "show all hidden files" to find them.
Once done, reboot your computer, launch itunes, connect your phone & restore as "new". When finished, DO NOT SYNC, rather eject your phone & see if all is working properly. If it is, sync your content back to your phone. If not, proceed AT YOUR OWN RISK!
    2. Try and downgrade to 3.1.3 from here:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Note: Before you try this, bear in mind this is NOT endorsed by Apple & that you run the risk of making your phone inoperable.

  • HT1351 I would like to sync ITUNES to my IPOD.  When I click on devices the sync is greyed out.  can anyone help

I would like to sync ITUNES to my IPOD.  When I click on devices the sync is greyed out.  can anyone help.  I am running Windows 8

You need to select your iPod in iTunes.  The command (from the menu bar?) is disabled because you have not selected a device for which the command is applicable.
The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, find and select the iPod under DEVICES.
Once the iPod is selected, you can select the Sync command under File -> Devices in the menu bar.  You can also just click the Sync button at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window (when the iPod is selected).

  • Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out

Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out.  I have downloaded and installed Itunes 11 (multiple times) and restored my phone twice already, but I am still not able to sync my Iphone 4 with Itunes.
When I select / de-select Apps on Itunes to remove from the phone the "Apply" button does appear, but after I click it nothing happens.  Then the greyed out "sync" button just appears again.
    Anyone with some advise please?

Try Restarting or Resetting your touch.
Restart: Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears and turn off your iPod. Press the sleep/wake button and hold it until you see the Apple icon.
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time. The red slider will appear first, keep hold everything until you see the Apple icon. Release the buttons.
Check your iPod and see if your music and apps have reappeared. If they do after either option, then resync your iPod.
If neither works, then Restore your touch through iTunes.

  • My replacement iPod will not sync. I've purchase new songs and albums and can see them on my PC. but they will not sync. When I select the devises from the menu the Sync is greyed out..

I just had to replace my classic iPod, lost all my music (except previously purchased). New (refurbished) iPod will not sync the new music I've just purchased or the CD's I've uploaded. When selecting the Devises in the menu, Sync is greyed out. I need help. When I plug my iPod into the PC and is shows it is syncing it only picks up my previous music,

See this article how to transfer your data? How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
As mentioned by vazandrew, music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Select it there.  To the right, its Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs ot the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This is the switch to enable automatic syncing.  If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then select what you want on the iPod from the lists below.
Click Apply to intiate automatic syncing between that iTunes library and your iPod (based on how the iPod's Music screen is set up in iTunes).

  • Problem syncing and greyed out songs on iTunes

I just recently switched from an iPhone 3gs to an iPhone 5. Before switching phones, I went on iTunes and clicked "back up" in case I wanted to transfer music, photos, etc. After switching, I decided to add new music onto my new iPhone. I don't use iTunes very much, so while trying to figure out how to put music onto my phone, I clicked "restore from backup." I was afraid some of my new apps would disappear, so I clicked cancel. I checked my phone and the only difference I saw was that I got my old bookmarks back from my old iPhone.
I went back to syncing my new music and figured it out, however, I noticed that every time I clicked "sync", it would sync for a little while, stop at "step 2: backing up" and then cancel. I think cancelling the "restore from backup" interrupted the syncing process for my music because now, some of the songs are greyed out on iTunes, but they still show up on my iPhone. I'm happy the music still plays on my iPhone, but it bothers me that I can't get rid of the greyed out songs on iTunes.
Can someone please tell me how to fix the greyed out songs and how to stop my phone from syncing and canceling?
    P.S.
My iPhone would sync and then cancel every time I plug in my iPhone into my computer, but I stopped that by going on iTunes to "Edit", "Preferences", "Devices", and then checkmarking the box that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically."
I hope all of this makes sense >.< I feel like I should be jumping up and down in joy for getting an upgrade, but I'm bummed out now that this has to happen :/

  • Synced items greyed out on iPad

Since upgrading to 5.1 on my ipad2, I can't sync movies?? They appear on the iPad but are greyed out with 0 bytes... Help please

Hmmm....  before going any further.  Connect device by USB to PC and open iTunes - Left click device when it appears and click on Reset Warnings. Do the same under the iTunes Edit Menu - Preferences\Advanced tab - click on Reset Warnings there too. Then:
0 Bytes would normally indiacte the films are incomplete.  Can you please unsync your films by clicking your device, in iTunes, when the Summary page appears, select the Films tab and remove the tick from Sync films.  When finished click apply and then Sync.
Close itunes (whilst your device is still connected to your PC).  Reopen iTunes.  Do as before, but this time select the option to 'sync selected". Place a tick in a box next to one film only. Apply and sync - watch the sync bar to confirm it completes.
When finished, go to Video App on your pad and commence play back (about 20 mins worth)
Then close - reconnect to iTunes and set sync options for the items you want to transfer.  Hit apply and then click to sync.
Watch the memory bar at the bottom when selecting films - if your library exceeds available memory on your pad it will not be able to sync.
If this is the case you should get a dialogue box telling you this.
There is a bug with the Manually Manage, it can misbehave sometimes.  Take the tick out of this box, and use the "Selected Items" option under each sync heading for Music and Films.
Let me know how you get on please.  If you get any warnings or dialogues can you please note them down 'Complete'  and post back with what you were doing when it/they displayed- unfortunately there are literally hundreds of them and it is impossible to know why each one appears without feedback from those who post here.
    Best Regards, Ct

  • Itunes sync button greyed out... restore not fixing the problem.

I have been struggling to sync my ipod for several weeks now. I am becoming desperate, help would be really appreciated!
    Operating system and software versions:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    itunes 10.5.3.3
    ipod touch
    iOS 5.0.1
This is what has happened so far:
Itunes stopped recognizing Ipod when connected through usb cable, although windows did recognize the device.
The following error appeared: "Itunes has recognized an ipod but it could not be correctly identified, please disconnect the device and try again"
For a couple of weeks I tried everything: I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and every other apple software, I reinstalled ipod drivers, usb drivers, restarted services, reinstalled services, tried syncing using winamp and songbird with no success, restart ipod, etc. I connected the ipod to my mom's computer, and it was recognized. I connected a friend's ipod touch to my computer, and it was recognized. The only thing I managed to do, was a backup using icloud.
Finally, I remembered installing my motorola phone software a couple of days before the problem started. I uninstalled the motorola software, reinstalled itunes and voila! itunes recognized the ipod once again.
only... now the problem was that the sync option had been replaced by restore. So I tried restoring to the icloud backup, and it worked, except all the music dissappeared from my ipod. Then I tried syncing and the sync button was greyed out.
So I tried restoring ipod with itunes backup.... again, unable to sync.
So then I tried restoring ipod as if it were new... again! unable to sync.
the sync button is greyed out and nothing happens when i click on it. the apply changes button is the same. I've tried manually adding music with no success.
I'm just desperate, I don't know what else to do!!! Please someone help!

I am having the same issue with my iPod touch. I installed both iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 this weekend, and now the sync button (in iTunes, on the summary tab of my device info) is always greyed out.
[edit to add]: I've restarted my computer several times, and also tried restoring the iPod several times, to no avail. I'm running Vista.
    Anyone have any answers?

  • Sync button greyed out

I have hooked up my iPad to my computer but the sync button is greyed out.  I have uninstalled all Apple components from my PC and reinstalled them and still there is nothing.  My iPad is a 62gb and Im only using 39 gb so I know its not because Im over capacity.  I have made sure the computer I'm using is authorized and even updated my payment info to make sure there wasnt any info lacking from my profile. I have reset both my PC and my iPad.  At this point Im at a loss as to what else to try.
Also, I went into my computer and made a couple of new folders for my photos and iTnes recognizes them when I go to the section where I can choose which folders to sync.

Well, I've searched this and number of other forums, and I see that there're many people having similar problem, and that there's no working solution. Syncing is a very basic thing, and since its not working, and can not put any musing/photos/videos, etc.. on the device. This functionality is one of the main reasons i bouht these devices at the first place, so I wonder what people at Apple are thinking, when they're not releasing any fixes (the problem appeared first when iOS 5.0 was released).
Strange thing is that both devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are affected, and sync does not work on two different systems (Windows 7 and Max OSX).

  • ITunes thinks it is syncing music onto my iPod and finishes sync without actually doing it and it is greyed out on "on this iPod" how can I add it properly?

My iTunes is doing the most frustrating thing.
I'm trying to sync a new album I've downloaded and every time I drag it across to my iPod (I manage my music manually) it begins to sync and then finishes almost instantly. Checking in the "on this iPod section" the music is there in that greyed out state with the dotted circles next to each item as if it were to sync but it never does it. Its so frustrating
I tried making it autofill from a playlist only containing the songs I was trying to add and receive the following message:
"iTunes cannnot add any songs to the iPod because it already contains all the song in (titled) playlist."
So it thinks the songs are on there but they're not actually synced.
If you'd like any further info it is an iPod touch 3G i believe, 32G,  OS 6.1.6.
almost filled up but space is definitely not the issue. The files are MPEG audio files 320Kbs
For the record I hate iTunes and all its f**king antics there has to be a better way...

Alrite simple fix if anyones having the same problem sorry, just gotta delete all the greyed out material on your iPod and re - add it seemed to work

  • ITunes does not sync - button greyed out

I recently updated my 3gs to the new software, and my new ipad (3rd gen) is also running on the latest software. I also have the latest iTunes.
Up until 3 days ago, everything worked fine. Now however, whenever I plug either of them into my computer to sync some new music (or anything else) on, the sync button is greyed out.
So far I have tried :
Restoring my iphone [+ it seems my backup is missing all my apps/music]
Erasing ALL apple programs (itunes, updater, quicktime etc.), and then reinstalling [I've done this all twice now]
    switching USB ports
Restarting both my computer and iPhone/iPad
    Authorizing my computer again
I cannot drag and drop music onto my devices or use the sync button.
However none of these work for me. I now have nothing on my phone, and cannot put anything on it. This is incredibly irritating.
Im starting to get very angry with these products. Apple is supposed to be reliable is it not?
    Someone please help me!

i am having a iusses a little different hoping you can help me, my computer did not crash it is finr, its a gateway, windows 8, i undated my itunes to the new version, and can't get my other one back, i plug my ippod shuffle into the usb port and nothing happens, i tunes doesnt pop up, my ipod icon doesnt come up in the new version of itunes i cant sync it to nothing, i have no idea how to add music and now clue how to use this itunes. i am getting a new ipod tomorrow and i have no clue how to add music to it now.. can you help me?

  • ITunes - Lockup Problem + Greyed out Songs

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my issue.
I am using iTunes Match and storing the music on the cloud. I installed iTunes on this machine in mid-November and have listened to music regularly. I updated iTunes to the latest version on 12/25. However, I did not play any music or watch any movies/videos at that time. Merely did the update.
    Problem:
Yesterday (12/31) I launched iTunes to listen to while I did some writing. As the program started, it asked me to login and verify my Apple ID. I did so and it was accepted. I began by creating two new play lists with the intent of copying a selection of songs into them. Now the play lists themselves are created. I could see the names in the play list section. But when I tried to copy some music into them my entire Music category went grey. Every song. I tried to play several of them, but iTunes did not play. Then it locked up. I had to use WPM to kill the process, as there was no other way to access the program. Now when I boot up iTunes it asks me to login, then it freezes.
I have downloaded the installer and tried to fix the install. It registered success, but the problem is still there. I uninstalled iTunes using the installer package, rebooted, reinstalled iTunes. Upon starting the reinstall, I was asked to login with my Apple ID. I did so, but the program immediately locked up again.
    Currently:
The Cloud icon (next to Music and above Movies, top left) shows a lightening bolt running through it.
The activity window (below iTunes at the center top of the screen) shows the candy-stripe bar running left-right, but the bar is frozen in place.
Song names and info (including album art) for the first 40 tracks are displayed, but the songs are all greyed out.
Each song has a Cloud icon next to it, with an down arrow in each Cloud, but the Cloud is grey as well.
iTunes will launch, but after asking for my login, does not respond to commands.
My theory was that this was something to do with the most recent update and the fact that I am using the Cloud service. I assumed an uninstall would fix it, but that was not the case, so I now believe it may be a combination of the update, combined with a problem on my account. As I stated, it does not freeze until after I login.
    Any suggestions?

Possibly solved. That APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push) program seems to have been the problem.
