Ipad screen faded white after liquid damage, help?

So last night my Ipad was on my bedside table, as well as a drink, in the middle of the night i've knocked my drink over and some of it has gone onto my ipad. This morning my screen was normal, but then its started flickering and has gone faded. I left it in some rice for about an hour and it was normal again, and now its gone faded. The touch screen still works as normal. I put it back into some rice for now.
Any solutions?:(

Just keep waiting. Unless that water was near one of the ports, it shouldn't have gotten inside the device. But if you are experiencing fading then maybe some did.
Usually iPads are pretty stable since they use flash memory and no moving parts. If water gets inside it doesn't damage the device as much as it causes damage by causing short circuits. ANd those short circuits are caused by use, so since you've been using it if there is any damage it's probably done. The rice does work, but you need to leave your device in that rice for days, not just an hour.
Leave it there for a day or so and see if there's still fading. It'll either resolve or be permanent.

The ipad screen is white. Holding buttons didn't work so I restored it on iTunes. When I press home and on switch, the screen is white,  goes black then back to white with no logo at all. Can't get past the white screen. This happened after running app updates. Is there any fix besides going to Apple store? In iTunes on computer can see what is on there. 16GB OS 7.1.1

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

Clearly, it's not inexpensive.  You might wish to try a few things yourself.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • When upgrading iPad screen turned white, why?

When prompted to upgrade the operating system on my iPad, during the upgrade the iPad screen became white.  I connected to iTunes & received the message "detected ipad in recovery mode, must restore ipad".  I clicked "restore & update".  I then received error message tht ipad could not be restored - unknown error occurred (37).  What do I do?

Same Frickin Problem let me elaborate. My Ipod Touch Will Work After I Hit the Power button about 50 to 60 times. Sometimes it takes over a hundred times hitting the button. turning it on and off over and over again. I'm thinking this may be a problem with the boot sector but Idk. The white screen comes on everytime. a Couple of times it'll come on. and works just fine until it goes into power saving mode. Is this what's happening to you? If so Then Apple needs to release an update to the firmware to try and fix it. because I can't even restore the current software. Version 4.3.3

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • My ipad screen starts white and cloudy

My IPad screen is white and cloudy particularly around the edges but starts to clear over about 5 minutes of playing.  Any thoughts on how I can restore the screen to its original clarity?

Have you tried resetting your iPad using this procedure?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.

  • Testing for signs of life after liquid damage

    Hey all,
I picked up a Macbook from work yesterday (repairs department) that had been returned a month or so ago as being 'dead' but upon inspection (smelling the keyboard!) I realised coffee had been spilled on it. Long story short, the Macbook was sitting in its box since then in spite of the liquid damage so it's probably been beavering away down there messing things up. As I was, of course, not present when the liquid damage occurred, I've no way of knowing if the machine instantly turned off due to a short or maybe carried on running and was shut down and then after that refused to turn on, or if they were lying/misinformed when claiming it was dead.
Anyway, I've torn it down all the way to and including the keyboard, cleaning all the components along the way and everything looks in top-top condition now, albeit still taken apart.
    There's only one problem:
The machine doesn't appear to turn on, but it does charge. Also, the battery indicator light works properly. However, the dvd drive does not make its startup mechanical noise, nor does the hard drive power up. The fan doesn't spin either, but I'm not sure if the fan only ever begins to spin when the temperature reaches a certain point. The led light on the front does not glow at all, either. According to the Apple site, if the system has no ram in it the led should blink once per second but it doesn't do that. I dunked the logic board in shallow rubbing alcohol last night and lightly scrubbed it with a soft toothbrush and left it to dry overnight and it looks clean now. I'm about to plug it back in to see if it starts but I was wondering:
*What are the minimum components needed to be present in a Macbook to check the logic board is functioning?*
With most PC laptops, they'll still turn on the hard drive/screen/etc without any ram or cpu installed but there'll be nothing onscreen, whereas I've come across others that will show absolutely no signs of life at all if the hard drive is set to slave when it should be master!
Do I need to have the screen, drives, and all other bits all fully connected to see if the machine will at least turn on? I'm worried the power button on the keyboard could be faulty but have no way to check that at this moment.
Thanks for any replies(as long as they're not about voiding warranties)!

Thanks for mentioning the hardware test, I didn't think about trying that (assuming I get it to boot), but did you read my post properly?
Probably not, so I'll summarise it (it was a bit wordy):
I have a Macbook that someone spilled coffee on. But in spite of completely disassembling it and cleaning all traces of coffee (isopropyl for circuitry, soapy water for everything else), it won't turn on at all. There is still some coffee inside the keyboard between the two layers, and I believe this coffee is the problem as the laptop charges the battery but won't turn on at all so I think the keyboard is not sending the power-on signal properly.
I was trying to find out *whether Macbooks can be turned on without having to reconnect all the parts* (monitor, ram, drives, etc) just so I know that it at least powers up. Since posting, I've now reassembled the entire Macbook except for the keyboard so I suppose it's largely moot. I'm thinking of buying a new keyboard from eBay to see if that will power up the machine. If it doesn't, then I'll give up.
The bit about warranties has become standard practice for me and was to stop people replying along the lines of "but you'll void your warranty" or giving their two pence about how they'd never EVER void their warranty. It's really annoying because it makes the poster sound silly, and only brings disappointment when I get an email and think I'm getting an answer.
I'd like to believe anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows when they're doing something that will void their warranty, and I seriously doubt there are many cases where someone has unknowingly voided their warranty by opening up or repairing something they shouldn't, only for someone to reply and show them the error of their ways before they realise!

  • Ipad screen went white with gray/black line through it. Worked one minute and not the next. It has not been jailbroken.

The ipad screen has went white and has a gray line running through the middle of it. It worked one minute and not the next. It has not been jail broken.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.

  • Ipod screen gone white after using 2006 updater!

hi...my 5th generation video ipod has just had an update and the screen froze after i removed it... the screen then instead of resulting in the apple logo turned white and it is stuck like that. When i try again to restart it only turns black for a while makes a few beep noises and then the screen turns white again .... HELP!

Apple engineers have determined that this is caused by not allowing the firmware update to finish the installation before disconnecting the iPod.
If the reset previously mentioned doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode, and use the updater to restore the iPod.
With your iPod not connected to the computer, reset it for about 5 seconds.
Then press and hold the select and the play/pause buttons for another 5 seconds or so. Then it should be in disk mode.
Wait until the restore has finished before disconnecting the iPod. If you're unsure, wait at least 20 minutes (it's probably overkill but best to be sure).
    That should cure the issue.
If however it doesn't, and your iPod is still non responsive (doesn't reset, nothing on the screen or button presses don't work), then it will have to be sent away for service.

  • Iphone 3gs screen goes white, after locking ???

my iphone 3gs botts up fine, and everything works, but as soon as i lock it and then try to unlcok it, the screen turns white. tbhis has happened after i have replaced the digitizer and LCD ?? please help, what could the fault be ???

I am not jailbroken, on 5.1.1 (9B206) and have been dealing with this problem since last night. I was using the phone like normal, nothing changed and once I tried to unlock it was white screen. I went to bed and once my alarm in the phone was going off this morning it kept being the white screen and I could not unlock it. After snoozing it somehow from hitting home and the sleep/wake button, the screen randomly came back to life. Now 9 or so hours later, with nothing being updated, added to the phone or changing any sort of way, the white screen when I try to unlock it is back.

I've format the hdd and put fresh copy of OS X 10.4.11 but it didn't help.

Please help as this is my first mac got it just for few months and i love it
    Thanx

Hi, Gary. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you may be having logic board problems. Enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Do the symptoms look familiar? After leaving it sit overnight, does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.
    John Sawyer
    CJS Macintosh Repair
Instructions for removing the lower case:
    iFixit.com
If the shim fix doesn't work (or you're leery of trying it), DT&T Services in Fremont, California offers the cheapest repair I've found. They have a six-month warranty on the repair.
Once you get it fixed, try never to pick it up by the left front corner alone. The theory is that picking it up by the left front corner alone can contribute to logic board failure when the case flexes, causing the graphics chip to come loose from the logic board. If you're picking it up in your left hand (as I often do mine), pick it up in the center under the trackpad.
    Good luck.
Please note: As a G3 iBook is quite old at this point, if you are faced with paying a repair bill on it, it may be wiser to put that money toward a new (or used) MacBook. They are quite a spectacular upgrade from the iBook G3. Again, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  • Nano no startup screen (totally white) after I restored

I didn't use my ipod a lot, and never dropped it.
I couldn't startup ipod so I was trying to reset.
When I pressed two buttons(Menu & Play), it started up.
But it is just the white screen, the software doesn't start.
After it kept the white scree for a while, it shut down.
I brought my ipod to the official Apple store.
They tried to fix but the result was the same.
Does anyone know how to clean install the software in ipod nano?
    Thank you for your help.
    Pentium IV   Windows 2000

    Hi mrozone,
To reset the nano, hold the MENU and SELECT (center) button - not the play button.
    To do a clean install, restore the iPod;

  • Iphone 3gs screen goes white after unlooking but works fine before

    Hi everyone.
This is my first post here.
I got an Iphone 3GS that worked fine yesterday and then suddenly after the unlook the screen the screen goes totlay white.
I have tried the rebot thing and after that the phone works untill it looks the screen and the it back to white again.
I have tried to update the phone software to the latest because the phone looks fine in iTunes. No change
I have done the factory reset no change.
I have even but an old backup to the phone when the phone worked. no change.
What can I do to get my phone working?
    thanks in advance

This is a rare but classic iPhone 3GS White Screen Problem. It is due to faulty LCD Display.
Before and during any iPhone 3GS repair make sure the iPhone is OFF. Because the 3GS Logic Board and new LCD is vulnerable to damage when repaired with it being ON.
