IPhone 3G turns off randomly

Ok, firstly I know this topic has been coming up on the forum, but I haven't found any of the threads helpful or offering a clear solution so far.
I had my iPhone for 5 months and during that period I haven't installed any apps on it. Everything worked fine, no problems at all. Just recently I installed apps for the first time and it was fine for a while (2 weeks or so) but then it started turning off randomly. I can only hold in the sleep button until the apple logo comes up and it turns on again.
I figured it had something to to with the apps so I did a reset and only kept apps that 'seemed' to me safe to have (Facebook, Wordpress and Skype). But the problem still remains.
So here is my question, has anybody found a soild solution to this? Should I consider returning it? Can it be a hardware issue?
Thanks in advance for any help

You're welcome.
Does that mean that every time I add applications and this 'turning off' happens, I can't have any apps on my iPhone? (sadly that would defeat the purppose of haveing an iPhone to a large degree)
No. If this happens every time you add applications, there is something wrong with your iPhone. I suggested removing all 3rd party applications to see if the same occurs without any 3rd party applications installed. I ended my previous post with the following:
*I don't believe this will make any difference. _If an iPhone reset, a restoring the iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, and restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup does not resolve it, then your iPhone has a hardware issue._*

    Has anyone had this problem?
If I leave the phone (thus not doing anything to it) for an extended period of time say 2 hrs. It will have turned off and you can't turn it back on unless you plug it in, but it's got heaps of "Battery" left.
Ever so often it will turn off randomly as well, and can't turn it on again.

If your iPhone is powering off, this is not normal.
Try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If no change after doing so, your iPhone has a hardware problem. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.

  • My iPhone 5s turns off randomly and won't turn back on

Yesterday my iphone just shut off randomly even after being charged at 100%. I gave it a hard reset three times and it finally turned back on. But today it blanked out again and every time I try to turn it on the apple icon pops up but then disappears. The screen goes black and nothing happens. I've tried the hard reset and that doesn't work, I've even tried holding down all four buttons and it still doesn't work.

  • IPhone 4 turns off randomly and refused to turn on until 10 mins or so...

My iPhone 4 originally AT&T smart phone, is what I use on T-mobile as of right now. I have had it for just about two years now and I think it's coming to its last few days. It turns off randomly throughout the day and does not turn on right away when I push either other of the button (simultaneously or one at a time), until about 5-10+ minutes or so. It is very frustrating and I really do love apple products but I don't know, something is telling me to switch to android unless a miracle happens.
    Thanks in advanced.

  • IPhone 4 turns off randomly, and doesn't start up unless its on the charger. Hard resetting it when its turned off doesn't turn it on either.

My iPhone 4 is running iOS 4.3.4 and it suddenly turns off randomly, usually when the batery is around 85% or so. When I try to turn it on the normal way or hard resetting it, it doesn't turn on. It only turns on when its connected to a charger, and the time and date resets to 7.30am, January 1st 1970. I have no idea why is this happening and how do I resolve this issue? I really don't want to go get it replaced as its too much of a hassle and Im leaving to another country in 2 days time..

It also starts charging at 70% or so when it turns on..

  • My iPhone 3gs turns off randomly  (applecare sent it back as it was!)

Hi, had my iPhone 3Gs 32GB Black since about August 2009. From the outset it has turned off randomly ever few days or so, usually when I am in the middle of a call. I tried resetting the phone. Removing all the apps. etc. etc. but no luck.I stuck with it thinking that the problem would go away or that some future software update would fix the issue but also no luck.
So I took it into Movistar (the dealer for the phone here in Spain) a couple of weeks ago and they duly sent it off to Applecare for repair. Apparently you cannot do that yourself, it has to go through the store.
Anyway, got the phone back today with a really shoddy looking photocopy from AppleCare Service in Cork (Ireleand) saying that " their technicians could not find any problem with the phone..." blah blah blah. and that the problem should fixed by reset!
So what do I do now. I know that if they have not actually found the fault then the issue will persists. The Movistar sales woman said to just bring it back in that case and they would send it off to Apple again (for another two weeks...).
Is there any way I can contact Apple CAre direct about this? Anyone got any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Tony

Thanks, but no Apple stores in Spain. Have to go through telco. Movistar. Will just send it back again for repair... see if they can fix it this time or give me a replacement.

  • My iPhone 4 turns off randomly not completely turn off

Pls help my iPhone 4 turns off randomly

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if better. If not and there is warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution. If no Coverage, clean again with toothbrush and some Isopropyll Alcohol. See if better. If not you may need charging port assembly and/or battery replacement.

  • IPhone 5 turning off randomly.

My iPhone 5 has recently been turning itself off randomly. I've owned my iPhone for almost 8 months and I've never dropped or damaged it once. I also recently updated to iOS 7.0.2 and I've also had to restore my cellphone. I don't know if this problem has anything to do with the software update. What's wrong with my phone? And how can it be fixed?

The update should have nothing to do with this. Is the phone charged when this happens? What user troubleshooting have you tried. The steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as a new device, not from a backup. See this support document for assistance. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802

  • Iphone 4 turns off randomly with battery remaining

    Hi ,
My iphone 4 has been switching off randomly even when battery is 100% and wont switch back on unless connected to a power source.
This behavior is more prominent when  i connect to 3G or when i turn on or turn off the flight mode.
I have already changed my battery and also restore my phone to factory settings with latest ios update but still its not working as before.
I do not remember dropping my phone or it getting in water.

  • IPhone 4 turns off randomly

Hi. I have an iPhone 4, and it is probably 3-4 years old, and has no obvious extrernal problems except that the lock screen button doesn't work. That stopped working about 3 months ago, and i went to the apple store and they said there was nothing to do about it. They also looked at the iPhone and said that there were no problems with the battery life or anything (it was a dot in the greenest section on the picture for battery life). but, since then my iPhone had been randomly turning off. At the begining, since my lock button was broken i would just plug it in, and it would turn on about 2 mins later saying very low battery, but it would go straight back to whatever charge it was before in a couple of minutes (usually about 50%).
But today, it randomly turned off while i was using the calculator. I tried pressing the home button, but nothing happened. I plugged it in, it made the 'plm' sound it does when it charges, but the screen turned black.
I think it was maybe a problem with the display. Because i have the apple headphones, and i used them to make the music play, and it did, i just couldnt see the screen. About 3 hours after it turned off (no screen on, but still music and sound), it turned back on again fully (with the screen). I have already been to the apple store about this matter, and they said they essentially have no idea why its happening. Usually it turns back on when it plugs in, but today it didnt.
Does anyone have any advice, or know why it happens?
    Thanks,
    Cam.

Did you already try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup?
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If it works after that, your backup data has been damaged, causing your problem.
If the issue still persists, this might be hardware related.

  • IPhone 3GS turns off randomly.

I happen to have an almost 2 year old iPhone 3GS that I once bought brand new and it has this problem that when I fully charge it, it doesn't even drain down to 50% before it gets stuck, dims the display, slowly fades out with black stripes and all, turns off and never gets back on. Unless I put it on charge again, which takes about 2 hours to get turned back on again. I've also noted it turns off on special occasions like when I take photos or type someone a message.
And just to let you know, I've already restored it once. So, what do you all think could be the problem?

These features are most common due to faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

  • IPhone 4S turns off randomly

Phone shuts off randomly. Will reboot with home and power button depressed together

I think it is to do with too many apps open at once, also if you are on the latest iOS6 I think there might even be a bug problem.
Try closing your apps more often and see if this helps. I find my iPhone 4S to do the same and it is normally when I have a lot of apps running in the background. Also it's only started doing this since I updated to iOS6.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone 4 turning off randomly once in day. Need to hard reset every time.

    Hi,
My iPhone 4 is about 2.5 years old. Few days back it turned off suddenly while i was calling. It was not turning on from power button so  I reset it by pressing home+power key. It starts and work normally. After few days it again turned off and i again reset it. Now this behaviour is continueing. I have tried reseting it but issue not resolve. Please help to fix this

Sounds like you need to take it back to the Apple store and tell them the replacement isn't working.

  • IPhone 5 turns off randomly, won't turn back on until I plug it in

This has happened a few times, just starting about a week ago.  I bought my iPhone 5 brand new the day it came out, now every once in a while it will turn off even if the battery isn't dead.  The home and power buttons don't do anything and it won't turn back on until I plug the phone in.  When I do this, it says my battery is dead for a few seconds, then it will go back to whatever % it was at before shutting off.  How do I fix this?

Same thing has been happening to me- SO FRUSTRATING. I've had it four days and it began on day two. I asked Apple & they told me to do the restore- but if there are still issues after doing that, I'll just opt for a new phone. I couldn't even get it to come on just now. The apple would pop up then it would shut off, over and over. Making an appt now.
