IPhone 4 mic problem during calls

After upgrade to iOS 4.3.5 I found that mic (near dock connector) doesn't work all time (sometimes mic works fine, but not all time) during calls. Could be this software issue or this is hardware issue? And another question - how fix this issue?

I found this post http://www.mostlyblog.com/ios-4-3-5-bugs-list and it seems that this is a bug of firmware 4.3.5...I hope Apple will fix this issue as soon as possible, because this problem makes me crazy

  • Iphone 4 - big problem during calls -   caller cannot hear me

    Dear All,
I have a very big problem with my brand new Iphone 4. I bought it in UK and I'm using it in Poland with Orange sim card. Randomly, during calls (signal strength is not an issue in this case) my caller cannot hear me at all. I still can hear any single word but they think that call is finished (dropped). I did the restore but problem remained. Is there anybody with the same problem?

    Hi Saint,
It is possible that the creen is activating during the call and your ear is touching the mute button. There appears to be a problem with the iP4's proximity sensor not always actuating when the screen is close to the ear - this can result is so-called 'face dialling'. There is an enormous thread dealing with this exact problem elsewhere on these forums:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2475509&tstart=15
Fwiw, I also suffer this problem.
Having said all that, maybe you problem is something else. Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Richard.

You use Restore to get the latest firmware build, not the Update button. You can only use the Update button, if there is an iOS update, say iOS 5.1.
this link talks about updating to 9A406 to fix the "No Service" issue with iPhone 4S:

  • IPhone 4 stays lit during calls

My iPhone 4 stays lit during calls. It causes me to hit the mute, FaceTime and contact buttons during calls. I took my otter box off and it still does this. Can anyone help me?

This is Proximity Sensor problem. This sensor is located on the Power Button Flex Cable. If the iPhone front screen has been replaced this is known problem. Restore iPhone with current iTunes on computer.

    Hello apple
I have the problem with my iPhone and my friends have this problem too.
My iPhone have the problem about calling and answer the call. When I use my iPhone to call I can't hear anything from my iPhone but the person that I call can answer it but when answer both of us can't hear anything and when I put my iPhone to my face the screen is still on and when I quit the phone application and open it again it will automatic call my recent call. And when my friends call me my iPhone didn't show anything even the missed call I'm only know that I missed the call from messages from carrier. Please check these problem I restored my iPhone for 4 time now in this week. I lived in Hatyai, Songkhla,Thailand and many people in my city have this problem.
    Who have this problem??

Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

  • Iphone 3g blank screen during calls

I bought a 3g last week to replace an original iphone that had stopped working. Everything seemed to work on the new phone except that during calls the screen would go blank and I could not get it back by holding it away from my ear, hitting the Home button, or anything else except the on/off button at the top, which ended the call. I was on the phone with apple tech support for several hours, trying all sorts of things that didn't solve the problem.
Then my grandson came home and looked at my phone. He surmised that the case, which I had transferred from my original iphone, was blocking the sensors. This turned out to be correct. If I push the phone slightly out of the case when on a call, the screen works just fine.
I decided to post this in case some one else runs into the same problem.

As soon as you said that the screen didn't come on, my first question was going to be are you using the original iPhone case? The proximity sensors on the 3G are positioned a little differently than the original phone.

  • IPhone 4 self muting during calls

My phone only works 10% of the time.  During calls my phone seams to self mute.  I can hear the other person but they can't hear me.  If I squeeze the bottom of the phone it starts to work, but I'm told the voice is all static on the other end.  Searches on the net say it's an IC audio chip problem, any suggestions?  Is it worth sending the phone back to apple to fix?
    Cb.

  • Iphone 4 switchs off during call

i am having this problem since 2 month earlier when the batt level would drop to 50 the  iphone used to get switched off during call.. i upgraded the phone to ios5.1 after that two monthsf it was fine but past three days it gets swicthed off during call as well as while surfing . even when the battery level is 100 % dont why this is happening???

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data, but it can clear some glitches after installing new software or apps.
If this does not help, set it up as new device, if necessary without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt files which are causing your problem.
How to back up your data and set up as a new device

  • IPhone 4S mic problem in the first seconds of an cellular call

Hi, I bought a brand new Iphone 4S ( iOS 6.0.1 ) from Apple Store 2 weeks ago. In the first few days everything seems to work fine and then one morning people could not hear me very well on the phone ( using the apple headsets everything worked fine ). 1h later I got the Iphone working back suddenly but I got a new issue which I have it even now. In the first 2 sec of cellular call ( incoming or outgoing ) I can't be heard; after this 2 sec everything it's ok and I can be heard. This issue is not reproducible on Facetime, Viber or by using other type of applications.
I don't think this can be fixed by restoring the IPhone but I do think that is an iOS bug. Please let me know if you ever encounter this issue.

My iphone 4 does exactly the same, there is a Youtube video about putting a piece of card under the back cover in a strategic place to resolve this.

  • Problems during calls

I have an iPhone 4 16gig on latest update.
My phone is becoming increasingly annoying during making calls.
The screen does not lock or turn off when in call mode. So my ear presses buttons like "loud speaker" "mute" "hold" ect ect. This makes it difficult to use my phone for calls. Which is annoying as i cant do my job properly. And its affecting my work relationships as people are getting frustraighted with these things happening.
I have tried pressing the power button to turn off screen when in a call but this terminates the call. I am sick and tired of this problem. Anyone have a solution?

    I fixed it!!!!
Basically I had to reset all settings by going to settings, general, reset, reset all settings. Then phone goes off. Comes back on and it looked like it did when I turned it on for first time after ios 5 update. But I clicked restore as new iPhone. And i tried to make a call and it fixed it

  • IPhone 4 mic problems, can anyone help?

My iPhone 4 doesn't allow me to speak to people when they call, I'm guessing its a problem with my mic, however when i create a video it does record sound??? I'm confused as to what it could be... Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like it was hacked/jailbroken to use a different carrier than the one iPhone is locked to.

  • Weird audio problem during calls

I have a weird audio problem and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or could help...
My wife and I both have iPhone 5's and sometimes (not all the time) when she calls me (or I call her), it connects, but no matter which audio input I choose (phone, bluetooth, speaker, headphones), I cannot hear her, but she can hear me... I hang up, call back (and when I call, there is no dialing sound, nor any other phone sounds) and it's the same thing. Sometimes restarting the phone works, other times I have to restart it 3-4 times before it'll work again.  I try different things during these calls, like turning on/off bluetooth and/or wifi (pretty much anything I can think of that would make a difference), but nothing seems to help.
The (other) weird part is that after the last time of this happening, I tried calling my iPhone with my office phone and it worked fine, so then I immediately call my wife back with my iPhone and it was doing the same thing again. I called her back using my office phone and could talk to her fine...
This problem has been going on for a few months now and I have tried restoring the phone a couple times (and I am on the latest iOS) and sadly, that hasn't done anything to help... Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? I'd make an appointment for the problem, but since it doesn't do it all the time, I don't know what good it would do... But it is getting very frustrating!
    Thanks for any help!
    -Jason

Thanks for the response!  It happened again yesterday...  It seems to be happening more frequently in the past few weeks now.
I checked the link and have tried all of the things listed at one point or another over the past few months.  I did just check my Carrier settings and it said it had updated (it's on 14.1), but I am not sure when that happened (could have been today, could have been after my last restore last week, not sure).  I'll keep my fingers crossed that maybe that fixed it...
If it continues to act up, would you recommend that I bring the phone in to an Apple store or an AT&T store?  I bought the phone through Apple, but my carrier is AT&T (and if you suspect that the problem may be with the cellular conection), maybe the AT&T store would be the better choice?
I really wish the problem would be more consistant or go away, cause trying to get the problem solved is driving me crazy!

  • HT4993 iPhone makes random Keytone during call ~ Please help

I thought it was just my phone, but I decided to look up this random keytone during phone calls on the internet and found this is a common problem with iPhones.  I have a iPhone 5s and this has been happening since I purchased it in Nov 13.
I cannot believe there is not a fix for this very annoying problem.
Please let me know if there is a solution I just have not come across yet.
    Thank you.

The keytone noise is random during phone calls.  My cell carrier is Sprint and my internet provider is AT&T. However, after reading about 100 post today on differt blogs it does not seem to be an issue with a carrier or a internet provider.
What I have been reading is that it happen after doing updates on the iPhones.  Mine happen to start as soon as I opened and used my new iPhone 5s.  It is so annoying and I have read enough about the issue today to know that there are 100s out there if not 1000s with the same issue.  Different carriers, different internet providers, but all the same type of phones iPhones 4s and 5s after doing updates.
Since it is a known problem I was hoping someone at Apple would be able to tell me if it can't be fixed that at least they are working on a fix.

  • IPhone 4 Mic Problem - Receivers and/or callers can't hear me

    Hi everyone
I'm using iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1. I've noticed lately (not sure since which software updates) that my phone sometimes wouldn't be able to hear the person on the other side (the caller when they called me or the receiver when I called them). I have to turn the power off and back on to be able to hear again. And sometimes it takes more than one time reboot to get it back.
Yes, I did drop the phone numerous times and I suspect this is the cause? I've done some googling myself and found some options to 'fix' the screw next to camera. But problem is, I don't see any screw near the camera. So I'm guessing that wasn't for iPhone 4? I don't know!
Is this common problem in iPhones or just mine (and very few others)? Has anyone found the solution? If you do please share.
    Thanks
    Edahani

I upgraded from a 4S to a 5C and didn't realize that I was holding the new phone differently. In my situation, my little finger would cover the microphone (on the bottom near the ear jack) during my calls. I had no idea I was the cause for my callers not hearing me. If you're reading this it's because you have tried everything. You might as well try this too. :-)
