Iphone 4 Troubleshooting

My iPhone 4 is acting weird, it won't let me enter my passcode. It keeps flashing to the apple sign, then to the place where I have to enter my passcode. Does this have to do with not updating to iOs 5 quick enough? Please help!!!

Not likely. There is no requirement to update. Did it get dropped or experience some kind of 'liquid' event? This sounds like a hardware failure. You can try restoring it as a new device, but if it's a hardware failure, you probably won't be able to. It's probably time for a trip to the Genius bar.

  • Do I have to pay for non-warranty iPhone 5 troubleshooting at an authorised apple centre?

My phone bricked yesterday when I try to update to latest iOS. It just went blank/black and won't turn on. I tried everything, including restoring, recboot, etc..
So today I decided to bring it to the expert. I asked for an opinion at the Nextbyte. The seller seemed rude to me, he cut me off from talking, didn't listen to what I'm trying to say and just tell me "Well you have to pay 49bucks for troubleshooting so we can find out what's wrong with your phone?" Since I really want to get my phone working again, I decided to go with it.
After waiting for a while, he came back to me saying that my phone is dead, no longer working and asked me to pay 49bucks for troubleshooting. I asked them what tests did he run. He said well I just tried to connect to iTunes here and it doesn't seemed to work. Well I was very suprised 'cause I did that more than 15 times last night and now you asked me to pay 49bucks for the same thing that I can do on my own? And he was just very rude when he claimed that it was my fault the phone became like that 'cause he assumed that I tried to jailbreak my phone. VERY RUDE INDEED. I have 2 iphones, 2 ipads, I never jailbreak any of them. I walked off the store feeling very angry and dissatisfied with the service.
Is there such a thing as "simply iTunes troubleshooting" fee? If not, is there any way I can claim that?

    Have you tried this?
Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • IPhone Remote troubleshooting...

    Greetings.
Like many, I seem to have an issue where since iTunes 8.0 and/or iTunes Remote v1.1, I am no longer able to connect to my MacBook Pro to control iTunes. I am trying to work through this methodically.
    Troubleshooting Setup:
iPhone: Original iPhone running firmware 2.2 and with Remote application v1.1. Not connected to the USB port of anything.
MBP: MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.5, iTunes 8.0, Firewall off. iTunes is set to share the whole library without a password.
Mini: MacMini running OS 10.5.5, iTunes 8.0, Firewall off. iTunes is set to share the whole library without a password.
All 3 devices are on the same network and configured with the same netmask and router details. If it matters, the iPhone is on 192.168.1.81/255.255.255.0, the MBP is on 192.168.1.64/255.255.255.0 and the Mini is on 192.168.1.67/255.255.255.0. All connections are wifi.
The network's router has a firewall, but LAN to LAN connections are not affected, only WAN to LAN connections would be. Besides, I've tried everything with the FW completely off and it made no difference. The router has been working well for me for years and has been reset and rebooted for these tests.
iPhone Remote can connect perfectly to the Mini and control its iTunes playback.
When attempting to connect to the MBP for the first time, the iPhone does appear in the devices list and present the passcode entry boxes. However, when entering the correct digits, it instantly beeps and resets the boxes to empty. Thus, I am never able to get past this part of the process.
Both the MBP and the Mini can see and play music from each other's music libraries perfectly.
Using the iPhone's Safari brower, I'm able to make a request from the Mini's IP address, port 3689 (a la http://1.192.1.67:3689/) and it responds quickly with something like "Cannot download this content" (which is fine, I didn't expect it to do anything special). However, when attempting the same test from the iPhone to the MBP:3689, it takes about 45 seconds of spinning to eventually come up with "Cannot open page". Which is the same thing I get if I quit out of iTunes on the Mini and try again.
Now, if I create an ad-hoc network on my MBP and connect to it from my iPhone, I can perfectly register my iPhone's Remote app with iTunes and control the MBP!
But, once I get off the ad-hoc network and go back to the original one, all my problems remain and the iPhone Remote app cannot no longer locate the MBP's iTunes library.
(Incidentally, it is not acceptable that I leave the iPhone and the MBP connected via the ad-hoc network, as this precludes me from using the AirTunes speakers throughout my house.)
The 2 tests above would point to there being some issue with the network, but I have confirmed that all the settings are the same (except the IP address) for both Macs on the network and that the firewall is completely disabled. I've also tried forcing the MBP to use a different IP address (on the same network though) and this didn't yield anything better. Better yet, I've forced the Mini to use the MBP IP address and vice versa - again, the Mini's iTunes library was found and worked perfectly with the iPhone Remote whereas I was unable to connect to the MBP.
The most frustrating thing is - it all worked great before iTunes 8.0 and Remote 1.1.
The only differences I know of are:
    1) Before these tests, I had never even tried to connect my iPhone Remote to the Mini, but I had (and it worked great) to my MBP.
    2) The firewall on the Mini has always been set to allow all connections.
    3) The Mini is PPC, the MBP is Intel.
    Interesting questions:
    1) If the router ISN'T involved, then why does Remote work great when connected directly to the MBP via an ad-hoc network?
    2) If the router IS involved, then why can I control the Mini across the same network and even on the same IP address as the MBP?
    3) Again, if the router IS involved, then why did it work great before the iTunes 8.0 / Remote update on the MBP but no longer?
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I want to get to the bottom of this once and for all!

Oops, I just noticed that the http:// address I quoted is incorrect, it is supposed to be http://192.168.1.67:3689/. Not sure what happened there but it was only a typo in the post, I used the correct address in the test.

  • Wet iphone 5 troubleshoot

hello, went swimming with my iphone 5 for 5 seconds. Then i put it in rice for three days and it works fine, except for a water spot in the middle of the screen. Also, my photos were all deleted. Would I be able to get my photos back through icloud.

You mean the water spot in the middle? Hmmm, I would try keeping it in rice overnight and see what happens.

  • IPhone no longer connects to iTunes via Wifi

On July 1,12 my iTunes did an automatic update.  After the computer restarting and I entered iTunes and the following messages appeared:
Message 1: Must reinstall itunes to connect to ipod or mobile devices.
Message 2: CD/DVD folder must be located in itunes folder in order to use with itunes
I have 2 iphones (both 4s, bought at same time, both running iOS 5.1.1)and one will briefly connect to itunes via Wifi (I will identify this one as iphone1) but the other one will not (I will identify this one as iphone2).  I have a PC with Windows 7.
When iphone1 is connected to itunes via wifi is disconnects randomly.  Under: Summary > Version, it has the message: Connect this iphone using a USB cable in order to update or restore its software.  When I have it connected with the USB cable, there are no problems. The settings selected under: Summary > Options > are: Open iTunes when this iphone is connected, Sync with this iphone over Wi-Fi,  & Manually manage music and videos.  The Setting under Backup > Back up to this computer (where it backs up to; I do not know)
iphone2 does not connect via Wifi but used to.  It connects without issues with the USB. The Settings in iTunes > Summary are the same as iphone2 except that iphone2 is set as Backup > Back up to iCloud.
My iphone2 is my primary device.  I use it exclusively; for music, taking photos, syncing photos to my Photo Stream folder on my PC, etc.  The iphone1 is my spouse's secondary phone, so its not used as often (ie: only has 4 songs downloaded, used to take the odd picture, has a mirror image of apps from iphone2).
I searched Apple Support and tried the following solutions that didn't solve this problem:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows (support.apple.com/kb/TS1567) &
Set the Apple Mobile Device Service Startup type to Automatic
I have not done this: Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS. I did goto the: iTunes for Windows: Device Connectivity Tests > iOS > iPhone - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistantand into iTunes > Help > Run Diagnostics.  The results were: All tests passed. (My iphone2 was plugged in with USB. The iphone1 was connected via WiFi.)
What do I do now?  Do I need to remove and reinstall iTunes? and if so will I lose all my itunes info (videos, music, apps, settings) or will it just show up after I install iTunes?

  • Itunes wont recognize my iphone 5s!!! Please help

Hi Everyone.. can someone please help me? Ive been searching this forum for 2 days now and cannot find a fix to the issue I am having.
My wife and I had iphone 4s' untill we recently upgraded to the 5s... we got both phones on the same day and simply installed from backup and everything appeared to run smoothly in both cases... Until i recently noticed that some of the music was missing from a playlist I made a while ago.
Naturally I thought to sync the phone.. This is not possible over wifi (device options are greyed out) and it wont even work using a cable as the device driver times out.  Now please note I have forced an update to the driver multiple times now following advice on this site, and I have made sure that my windows updates and itunes software are fully upto date, yet I still cannot get itunes to see my phone... or my wifes phone!
Iphone software is upto date and i have tried different cables just to be sure, and still nothing!  Help me apple support community.. your my only hope!

  • My iPhone 5 won't turn on, the screen just stays black!

My iPhone 5 won't turn on I have held the power button to see if it's dead or not and it doesn't seem to change the screen it just black I thought the battery could of died or something similar it only happened about 2 hours ago please help!

    Hey Thermali,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. To completely isolate the issue, you may want to follow these steps:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • My iphone 5 won't charge anymore

my iphone 5 won't charge anymore

    Hello Angelpz11,
I recommend this from our iPhone: Hardware Troubleshooting article found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802:
Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter
Important: Only original iPhone can be charged from a FireWire-based power source. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
Also refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery.

It just suddenly started happening yesterday before lunch and hasn't been right since! I haven't done any software updates or anything that could cause it. I e tried deleting my mail accounts, turning phone off and re installing them as suggested in one post but that didn't work!
