Iphone facebook chat question

I just bought the iphone 4 yesterday so i really dont know much about it. the question i have is with the facebook chat is there a way for the chat to save on there. cuz i was talkin to someone and than went to the main screen and went back in when they wrote back and what we previously talked about was gone. is there a way to save the chat on there. or exit the facebook app without closing it?

I'm not entirely clear on what exactly you are asking. I'll help you as best I can.
If you are in FB and get a vibration (someone initiated chat) and you go to the FB menu page and tap chat and enter the conversation you are chatting with that person. You can then tap the FB menu button and do other things like check your newsfeed/friends' pages/your profile, etc. As you are doing so you can continue to toggle between the chat and other functions within FB and your chat should remain.
However, I've noticed that if I press the home button and "close" FB and then return to FB...the chat is gone. My assumption would be it clears the previous chat out in order to not slow the iPhone down with multiple tasks constantly being performed without user interaction.
While the iPhone 4 multitasks, I don't believe you can actually "close" FB and return to the program to your previous chat.
**By close, I do not mean to log out of fb...just tapping the home button and being taken back to your home screen.

If there were a setting for this it would be available at Settings > Sounds.

Facebook Chat Not Working Properly For iPhone 4

I recently bought the iPhone for, and am having a pretty annoying problem with the Facebook App.
So, in my Facebook, I have a group for my friends (one group). Now, when I'm on chat for my iPhone, I can not see ANY of those friends in the group online.
I read around a bit, and was advised to try unticking the group, so all my friends were shown in one list.
Did that, but still no luck..can't see people from that original group online.
Any advice?

I've now gone as far as DELETING the list. So now, while on the computer, and under Facebook chat, ALL my friends appear under the same list.
Still have the same problem; can't see the friends from the old list when using my iPhone.

I request u to please look into the issue and let us know whether this is related to Facebook or Mozilla, the chat option is working fine on Internet explorer.Since Mozilla is much better than IE , I request you to look into this so that I can continue using Mozilla. You should try clearing the cache-
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
Also try removing unwanted cookies-
Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Did you try running it on [[Safe mode]] to see which plugin/addon etc might be causing that?

Facebook chat in OS X Messages shows numbers instead of names

Though I have used Facebook chat in iChat and now OS X's Messages programs for many years now with few issues (some disconnecting issues here and there but that's about it) The past few days I have encountered a problem that I can't figure out how to fix.
Whenever I first launch Messages and it logs me into FB chat, the names of my friends show up correctly for a handful of seconds. Then, suddenly all of the names and pictures disappear and instead turn into numbers (those aren't the actual numbers, just examples of what it looks like.) So my buddy/friends list becomes populated with all of these numbers and I can't tell who is who.
If I quit Messages and relaunch it, again I will see the proper names of my friends for a handful of seconds after logging in, but it always turns right back into a bunch of numbers.
I'm thinking this MUST be a server problem since not a single thing has changed on my computer.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Can anyone help?

I missed this thread as it was not tagged with the Messages Category.
However I have read most of the other threads in Mountain Lion and the iChat Communities on this issue.
I have read that it does not appear to effect Adium but has been reported effecting other Jabber Client app.
It is effecting both Messages in Mountain Lion and iChat in earlier versions of the OS.
It does appear to be a Facebook issue as the Buddy list will display User IDs unless linked to an Address Card when it will display the "Real Name" in your Address Book.
Obviously the numbers are linked to the Jabber IDs at Facebook (Any account with "Chat" enabled) but are not actually Jabber IDs as you lose the Buddy icon replaced with the generic Head and Shoulders icon.
I have asked the Hosts to remove pics in some posts that contain snapshots of the issue.
Although the issue is not Apple's there are considerations about whether they are seen to be assisting in posting Facebook users info.

Whenever I am writing something to a Facebook contact via Skype, and this person happens to go offline, even if it is just for a minute, the Skype window prohibits me from typing anything else as it changes to the "x is offline. Send SMS" window immediately. Also, there is no way to access what I have already typed till the contact in question comes back online. As this is terribly frustrating, I am wondering if there is a way to turn this off by changing some sort of setting, or whether this could be fixed in an upgrade or so. It of course shouldn't be an issue as Facebook itself allows offline messaging too. A lot of my contacts actually just get on Facebook chat whenever I send them a message. I just hooked up facebook chat to imessage, and while Jabber says I am logged in, nothing from facebook is coming up. I use mountain lion 10.8.5 on a macbook pro.

I just added my Facebook chat account to iMessage. When I am logged in to iMessage, it looks like I am also logged in with Jabber, but nothing from Facebook is coming up (I use Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on a 2011 macbook pro)
I have already:
unchecked "use kerberos fv5 for authentification" and "use SSL"
checked "automatically find server and port"
restarted both the application itself, and then my whole computer.
Any help would be appreciated

Although I don't have a Facebook I d have 3 other Jabber accounts logged in.
One is from Google and the others are from other Jabber servers.
My Google settings look like this,
Most Jabber server need SSL and the App will automatically make this port 5223.
However Google will let you change theirs to use port 443.
One of the other 2 is using "Automatically find Port and Server" and is using port 5222 and No SSL.
Whilst most will use SSL and port 5223 it is not true for every Jabber server.
I can never remember if the Facebook chat ID is @facebook.chat.com or @chat.facebook.com (I suspect the second)
You are using the Chat ID and not your regular Facebook ID ?

Facebook chat on mountain lion

Hello,
I updated to mountain lion today and had some issues with facebook chat.
as the facebook homepage loads everything works fine but after a minute the chat is disconnected and is unable to reconnect till i refresh the page.
After refreshing the same problem repeats again.
In the Messages application the chats working fine but not on the browser.
Any solution would be highly encourages

My connection to facebook chat on Imessage keeps failing.

It keeps connecting to facebook chat, then disconnects. Somethings it won't connect again, and other times it will connect back on it's own. If I select one of the options for my status, it will connect back again, then disconnect a few seconds later. Anyone having this prolem?

Facebook chat is buggy since last night

As of last night my jaba account on messeges is very buggy. it keeps switching from showing my facebook friends names to numbers, then a few minutes it shows my facebook on line friends again but then switches to showing numbers so I have no idea who is on line from facebook

I don't have a Facebook Account which makes it difficult to find out anything from their site.
Even to find the the "instructions" to use Facebook Chat IDs in iChat you have to be logged in !!!
Searching for "Facebook Chat Server Status" got me the following:-

Nothing about the Status of their server at all.
There also seems to be an item at Facebook called Server Status that seems to look at Users Servers.
The messages listed on the page for it are out of date - some do seem to refer to the Chat server though.

The piece is not that long but the blurb underneath may have had a link.

Facebook chat and adium

hi,
I have a question about adium facebook chat and facebook chat I can log out of adium fine but my facebook stays logged in on the web page on chat when I want it to log out when I do in adium. Is there anything I should be doing to make this log out on the facebook chat too? Which is what Id thought it'd do. Thanks hope someone can help. I hope this is the right place to post. Id really like to be able to use adium for my facebook but I need it to work propley.

You may have clicked "Keep Me Logged In" ... you can change that.
You can reset this feature by choosing "Logout" from the Account drop-down menu located in the top right corner of any Facebook page.

The near future of Facebook chat integration?

Acording to Facebook, Facebook Chat for external 3rd party useing the Jabber/XMPP protocol will stop working by the end of the month. Facebook has not announced any replacement protocol for this feature. As for the skype client, How will this feature continue? Will this feature be removed once XMPP stops wokring with Facebook?
