IPhone is refusing to accept new ID3 tags

So, I asked this yesterday, but no response, so I'm rephrasing my question to make it more understandable.
Basically, what happens is that my iPhone seems to store its own database of ID3 tags. Once I sync data over, it's impossible to change it to something else. The only way I can change it is by wiping the database i.e. restoring the phone. This is getting really annoying. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

I suspect you are stuck disabling & re enabling music syncing to get tags to update.  File it with Apple as a bug…
http://Apple.com/feedback
I remember the iPod doing something similar years ago - the solution was to add text to the comments tag. Not really a solution, but it could save you the wait of syncing 1000's of tracks. Let us know if that has any effect.

  • IPhone 4 won't accept new sim

    Hi,
My brother-in-law bought me a surprise present when I got married to his sister, an iPhone 4! Which is fantastic, only it won't accept my sim-card. I'm from the UK and I assume he bought the phone locally in the US (where he lives) - but I don't see why that should have any effect. I bought a monthly iPhone contract sim from 3-Mobile, put it in the phone and nothing happens. Acts like there is no sim installed. Am I missing something here? Its a valid iPhone network and sim so I don't see why it would locked out...
    Any help would be great.
    - Daniel

First time I've been disappointed like this by an Apple product
Don't blame Apple. While Apple may make the iphone, they don't own any networks. Thus, they are at the mercy of the carriers that do own the networks. Many carriers will not support or distribute the iphone unless the phone is locked to their networks. It would be far cheaper & easier for Apple if they could simply sell unlocked iphones everywhere. The decision to unlock or not rests with the carriers(unless required by law), not Apple.

  • Mail refuses to accept new certificate

    Hi there,
I recently acquired a new digital ID issued by our government to replace my certificate from Thawte. The new certificate appears in Keychain Access under My Certificates an the email address in the certificate is exactly the same as the one used in Mail. Unfortunately Mail prefers to use the old certificate which has now expired, so I cannot sign any more messages.
I tried to delete the old certificate from Keychain, but the problem remains : now Mail says it cannot find a valid certificate for this address although it clearly appears as valid in Keychain... How can I get Mail to use the new certificate ?
The old certificate also still appears beside my email address in Address Book, although I deleted this certificate !
Does anyone have the same or a similar problem and a solution ?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Dan

I'm having a similar problem. Only I've never had a digital signature. I got a Thawte certificate, followed all their instructions but Apple Mail doesn't recognize it. I've tried every forum solution for the last two days, without any luck.
Currently the certificate is in the System part of the Keychain. And it's showing up in both the Certificates and My Certificates sections. I've also tried variations of this setup. Nothing seems to get Mail to recognize the thing.

  • ID3 tags and itunes refusing to add music to library

As my music collection is growing, I decided to organize it a bit more and fill in the different ID3 tags in windows.
I have emptied my itunes library before I did all this, and after changing the ID3 tags I added the different albums back to itunes.
However, for some reason itunes does not want to import several albums anymore, while they do play in windows media player. Furthermore, itunes refuses in many cases to make use of the new ID3 tags I made. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, itunes seems to remember my settings and the ID3 tags the different MP3s had before.
Anyone a clue what is happening here? Has it someting to do with the new version of itunes, or is it something else?
    ciao, Gregorius

Hey, first of all, thanks for your help, but I'm still in problems.
I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,
    adios Gregorius

  • My ID3 tags not being recognized by iTunes 10.2.2

Can't quite find my unique problem on this board so hopefully someone can help me.
I have imported a lot of MP3 files into iTunes, successfully, which have v2.4 ID3 tags on them. I screwed up the song titles on one (Grateful Dead) show, and all songs came in titled '04'...
I deleted the files in iTunes (and asked iTunes to remove the files as well), fixed up the ID3 tags in the originals, and reimported. But, titles are still '04'!?
Since my music library is on my Linux box and I am mounting and importing from there, I thought maybe something was getting cached so I copied the whole album directory over to my iMac, but still I get the same '04' title for every song.
I also changed the Album attribute in the ID3 tags, but that is still also coming out the old (wrong) way.
It is as if iTunes has some sort of 'fingerprint' of the songs and refuses to recognize the ID3 tags.
This is on OS X 10.6.7 on iTunes 10.2.2, so I'm up to date on all software. And, I've imported A TON of shows like this without issue, it otherwise works just fine.
Anyone ever see this weird problem before?

    Sorry, should have been clearer.
The first time I applied the ID3 tags my script for parsing the artist, album and track names from the directory name hierarchy and filenames (e.g. ~/Music/<artist>/<album>/<track number>-<filename>), my script had a bug and all ID3 'title' values were set to the month number of the concert (04 = April).
So, the first time I imported into iTunes, all tracks were titled '04'. I deleted those in iTunes, fixed my script, but now despite apparently having correct ID3 tags, all songs continue to be named '04'. I also changed the album value to, changing from 'Hartford 04262010' to 'Hartford Apr 26, 2010', but again the original value appears to be "sticky", and despite the apparently revised ID3 tag, the album name also is the same as the first time I imported (i.e. Hartford 04262010).
Like I said, it appears that iTunes is somehow caching the original values and not recognizing the new / revised ID3 tags.

  • The id3 tag problem

Hi everyone. I Hope anyone can help me. I run iTunes Match with one test Album, deleted and downloaded them from the cloud. Than i used matchtag to edit the id3 tags of the Songs. But evertime i update iTunes Match, it rename's all my new id3 tags. How can i update id3 tags in the Cloud?

    DoublM wrote:
i can*t see the changes at the id3 tags on my iphone.
If you have downloaded the tracks to your iPhone you'll need to delete the tracks from the local storage for the chnages to show up.
    DoublM wrote:
Itunes rename all my changes automatically to the old id3 tags on its background check.
    hours of work for nothing
This is a known glitch in iTunes Match. If you make a large number of changes to ID3 tags very rapidly some of them might get reverted. Make a smaller number of changes over more time and the tags will "stick" in the cloud.

  • Altering ID3 Tags with 3rd party software and having it recognized by iTunes

    Hi,
Long time mp3 user but new to the iPod/iTunes family so I'm super unfamiliar with how it works. I currently use as separate mp3 retagger to batch process new ID3 tags and I noticed my iTunes library doesn't update the changes. Is there an easy way to keep updating folders without having to delete everything and reimport?
So,  I have VA albums but itunes shows them as different albums with only one track in them - how do I change/fix this?  Example: Punk-o-Rama vol 1 is a best of collection but instead of 1 album with multiple artists, iTunes shows it as multiple albums with 1 artist per "album" and only stores the album art on the alphabetically first "album". Fix please?

Maybe this has something to do with connection timeout for Oracle network configuration settings:
in file sqlnet.ora (located on server side), check these values or set them
    appropriately:
    SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT
    SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT
    SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT

  • Getting Information from ID3 tags from streamed mp3 files in Flash CS4 AS3.0

    Hi everyone:
I have spend my whole day trying to find a good way to access ID3 tags in AS3.0; but didn't find anything helpful.
In my project I am making a sound object and assigning it a URL:
Then I stream the sound into a sound channel:
    var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest('URL here"));
    var sc:SoundChannel;
    My problem:
I want to read the ID3 tag somehow and display the artist name or anything in the ID3 tag, onto the screen.
    Complication:
I Have the URL change through user input, and naturally I want to update all the information with the new ID3 tags information.

          name_txt = id3.songName;
          album_txt = id3.album;
          artist_txt = id3.artist;
This is mostly just taking the exact code from the website I mentioned earlier.
When I run this it outputs the trace command 1 time and nothing more. Only the trace(trace(id3.artist + ' - ' + id3.songName);) gets triggered once.
No errors. No warning. Not working.
    Thank you for helping me!

  • ITunes 11.1.2 not registering new ID3 v2.4 tags (Deleting music from both library and HDD)

I'm a DJ and therefore have ALOT of editing in my iTunes music library (adding and deleting tracks, commenting, adding tracks to new- and smart playlists etc.).
Music management on the hdd -wise, I frequently use the ID3 tags for deleting tracks from both the music library and my hdd, but since updating iTunes to 11.1.2 i'm having difficulties.
I have this routine for deleting tracks:
Rating tracks due to delete with 0 stars
Going to smart playlist called 'To trash' (filter = 0 stars), select all tracks
    Adding/changing genre to 'to trash'
Searching for 'Move to trash' in my HDD music folder
Move all mp3 files to trash, empty trash
iTunes, run Doug Script 'Super Remove Dead Tracks'
After the routine, all tracks I decided to delete, where deleted from both the library and hdd folder.
BUT, now it seems that Finder doesn't find any mp3 files with the ID3 metatag of 'to trash' (Step 4), hence i cannot "smart find" the tracks i want to delete.
    Possible cause of the problem: i'm suspecting it to be iTunes not "tagging" properly;
All of my "DJ-tags", such as 'MTV' and 'Mainstream' etc, in comments, tagged before updating to 11.1.2, can be found by these metatags, but it seems like new tags/comments are not "registered" in the ID3 metatags - at least not recognized by Finder.
Note: I know that i can just downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes, but I'm very interested in having my equipment up to date, since I'm using it professionally, and want it to be as stable as possible with my hardware.
    Any suggestions?

The next question it will ask is if you want to delete from your HD.
Anyways, the topic is (mostly) about iTunes not tagging properly (apparently).
    Yes, there are two issues.
    ID3 tags.
Your workflow, which is way too much. Use the computer to do the work, not you. No need to pull your engine just to change the oil.
Just checked and the ID3 tags works fine here.
    Do this.
    System prefs > Spotlight.
Select the Privacy tab and add the drive with your media.
Then remove the drive with your media.
This will force the OS to rebuild the Spotlight index files, which where the metadata for files is stored for searching.
This app you can view the Spotlight metadata of files/folders.

Note: I know that i can just downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes, but I'm very interested in having my equipment up to date,
FYI: iTunes 11.1.3 was released Tuesday , 5 November.

  • HT4623 ? about how to get iphone to accept new apple id

I have recently changed my email address and have updated my appleid.  When I try to update an app on my iphone or ipod it shows my old appleid.  It will not take my old pw.  How can I get the iphone and ipod to accept my new apple id?

Just remember, any and all apps and other iTunes content that was purchased with the old Apple ID will be locked to that Apple ID and to update them, you will have to sign in with the old ID; or you will have to delete the old apps and download them again with the new Apple ID.

  • ID3 tags that look fine in iTunes are ungood on the iPod touch

I've got 60,000-plus MP3 tracks, collected over a decade, that were encoded by a variety of apps on Macs and PCs. The tracks look OK in iTunes on a Mac, but on an iPod touch, many songs are missing artwork, and others display the lyrics in garbled "mojibake" characters.
If the garbling occurred in all the ID3 tags (Name, Artist, Album, etc.) of a track instead of just the lyrics tag, I'd simply reverse the unicode; but as it's not, the solution has to force the misbehaving ID3 tags/artwork to display correctly. I've tried selecting the problem songs and reassigning the ID3 tag, but iTunes can't or won't overwrite the bad tags.
What does work as a solution is toggling the ID3 tags off and on by selecting the bad tracks in iTunes, right-clicking and choosing "Convert ID3 Tags...", then assigning "None" as the ID3 tag version. Next step is to select "Convert ID3 Tags..." again, this time choosing v2.3 or v2.4 as the ID3 version. That does the trick every time, stripping away corruption in the ID3 tags and forcing the tracks to accept artwork. However, it also truncates tags longer than 30 characters, and deletes existing lyrics and artwork. That makes for a lot of cleanup editing.
Is there a way to make iTunes assign ID3 v2.3 to tracks so as to overwrite the corrupt tags without going through the steps I've outlined? If not, is there an app out there with the mojo to fix these corrupt files?

If the song is in iTunes, and it is in a playlist that you auto-sync your Touch to, then the only things that might cause this problem are:
1- Is this new song un-checked in iTunes? If your Touch is set to sync only checked items that would prevent it from syncing. If that's the case, just enable the checkmark next to the new song and re-sync.
2- Is this playlist a smart playlist that is forced to be limited in size? If so, there is a bug with the 3.1.x OS such that smart playlists that are limited in size will have different contents (and sorted differently) when you compare the playlist on iTunes vs. on the Touch. The solution in this case is to disable Live Updating in the smart playlist definition, then the two versions of the playlist will agree.
3- Is the new song tagged as "Skip when Shuffling"? If so, and if your Touch is in shuffle mode, then the song count in the playlist will not include songs that are designated to be skipped.
See if any of those three things are what is going on. If not, then perhaps you need to reset or restore your Touch, but I doubt that.

  • [SOLVED] ID3 tags not registering on MP3 Player

I just got a new MP3 player, and some of the ID3 tags that I've set on my music don't register. I have some other songs that were set on a Windows computer; these show up perfectly find. Every tag editor I've ever used has this problem.
What is a way to convert the ID3 tags into a format that my mp3 player (a coby MP826-8G) will be able to understand?
EDIT: Duh, I was using id3v2 instead of id3v1. Apparently most hardware music players don't read id3v2 yet.
Last edited by ProfessorProcrastinator (2014-05-17 23:54:20)

indeed, the tracks do have both v1.x and v2.x tags. Obviously, iTunes only accepts v1.1 tags. v2.x tags or mp3, who have both tags attached, will not be displayed in iTunes.
I have deleted the v2.x from the problem mp3-files using the "mp3tag" - tool. After re-importing the files into iTunes,
    everything was fine.
    Thanks,

  • Why can't I write ID3 tags?

Hi gang. Odd problem. Just very recently noticed it.
With some files, but not all, when I go to bounce them, it won't let me write ID3 tags.
I click the Bounce icon. The bounce box comes up.
I overtype the file name at the top.
I select destination MP3. Stereo mode is joint stereo. Write ID3 tags is ticked, so are use best encoding, filter frequencies below 10Hz , mode offline and include audio tail. Bit rate mono is 80kbps. Bit rate stereo is 160kps. Bit rate VBR is not ticked.
I click ID3 settings. The Bounce box goes out and then after a very short moment comes back set back to the PCM destination with the file name missing.
I go through the whole routine again. This time the bounce box goes out and stays out.
The only way it will bounce is without changing the ID3 tags. It flatly refused to edit them. Just no way, I can't get at them, that's it.
Version is 9.1.5 (1 7 0 0.9) 32 bit. Yes I have tried saving the file, shutting the program down and restarting it, it still does it. Once a file starts doing this, that's it, it always does it.
The only thing that's changed recently is DwellClick. Every file created after that seems to have the problem. Every one before it is still OK, even with DwellClick running. However, if I create a new project now, the problem doesn't happen, it's fine. Something must be happening during the project that stops the ID3 tag dialogue box being accessible.
Is this a software incompatibility? a software bug? suggestions??

    Hi
Erm, excuse me asking a really stupid question, but how would I do that?
and why is it affecting some files but not others? The latest file here does not seem affected. If it was a global preferences issue would it not affect all files? is it not more likely that it is the project itself that has the issue?
I notice that the project file can be examined as a package which apparently contains a folder LgDoc, which itself contains
displayState, which appears to contain coding instructions and data
documentData, which is mostly unintelligible coding with odd bits in clear text
windowImage.jpg, which is just the graphic for the icon.
This for example is a displayState file from a project that does not allow access to the ID3 tags:
