IPhone mail inbox not matching icloud inbox

My girlfriend had created a subfolder in her icloud email where she coppied emails from a specified group of people. Yesterday she decided the folder wasn't working out the waty she thought it would. So, she moved all the messages from that folder back to her inbox and deleted the subfolder. Now when she checks her mail on her iphone all she see's in her inbox are those moved messages and any new messages that came in after she deleted the subfolder. Any ideas on what is going on here? I've tried deleting her account from the iphone and re-adding it. that did not work.

I figured it out. Basically the iPhone's mail synced its inbox while the messages were being moved back to the inbox on her laptop (and iCloud). There were a lot of mesages and since the iphone was set to hold 100 at a time the inbox ended up removing most of the other messages. I changed her sertting to allow 1000 inbox messages and waited several minutes while the inbox synced with icloud. This placed all the messages back in chronologiocal order. I then set it back to the previous setting of 100 messages. All is well now. Hope this post helps someone else if they get into this unique situation.

  • IPhone Mail inbox not syncing with Mac inbox

    Greetings
Since upgrading my MBP recently, mail in my iPhone Mail inbox/sent items has not been syncing fully with my Mac Mail inbox/sent items.
Messages which are moved to folders stored On My Mac remain in my iPhone inbox.
Messages which are moved to folders stored in iCloud are removed from my iPhone in inbox and are visible as they should be in the iCloud folders on my iPhone.
I use both an iCloud email account as well as an account through my domain host. I do not use Gmail or an Exchange account, and tis problem dud not occur with my old MBP.
    Any advice most gratefully received.

    Hi KiltedTIm
Hmmm. I've changed my Mac, iPhone and iPad all from POP to IMAP. On my Mac there are only two items in the inbox in question, but on both mobile devices are every bit of mail from that account (not in filed iCloud folders) going back to 17 April. I've restarted both devices but everything is still in the inbox.
    Any further ideas?
    Thanks!

  • MAIL will not allow iCloud alias to receive mail

I am not a novice. I have been on iCloud (sadly) since July 2011. Today I tried to activate an email alias which was transferred into iCloud. It's valid and has been for years, but not activate since I migrated to iCloud.
Every time I set up the existing alias in MAIL I get the error "invalid incoming mail server."  I have used the Apple recomendation to use imap.mail.me.com.  When it comes time to exist ACCOUNT under Mail PREFERENCES, it will never SAVE changes as the incomding mail server information is grayed out and goes back to "example" and is not accessible.
I have also entered p99-imap.mail.me.com with the same result.
Two hours of going to icloud.com or managing my apple id online have brought exactly the same result.  Although the alias shows as activated under icloud.com and although it is accepted by MAIL, the message is always the same (invalid incoming mail server) and the account change can never be saved in MAIL.

I have a business with MobileMe accounts and we are going to be forced to migrate to icloud in a few months. I have nightmares about it alraedy.
Since Apple doesn't give a good cr*p about this, I humbly ask if there is anyone who really knows what is going wrong and how to work around it?
Again: I migrated to icloud with my apple id in July 2011.  MAIL will NOT set up my icloud alias as it always grays out the incoming mail server and returns the error "invalid incoming mail server" and will not even allow me the save the information.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your suggestions.
I already have an ALIAS set up and receiving emails in my main INBOX under the alias name. It is a MobileMe alias from my separate business mac account.  It has worked as a separate "account" under MAIL for 10 years. It is an ALIAS, not a main identity mac account. The System Preference panel is ACCOUNTS, not aliases, so I use the word "account" when I speak of setting up a new inbox with a different name and password whether that is an iCloud alias or a gmail account.
We may be talking about the same thing but I'm not using a word you use.  I am allowed 3 icloud mail aliases. I am allowed 5 mail aliases under my business mac account. On my mac MAIL I already have three separate "accounts" or inboxes:  (1) my private mac ID account  (2) my business MAC account  (3) an alias from my business account. All three have different passwords. None of the three gets emails sent the other two "accounts."
Maybe I just don't get "icloud." I certainly got "MobileMe" in the past. The alias that is currently working as a separate "account" or "identity" under MAIL is proof of that.
I am going to delete the "alias account" from MAIL and call it a day. For me, iCloud is commensurate with Windows ME in the history of computing: a stupid change that resulted in nothing but aggravation for everybody who was dumb enough to sign up for it.  I won't be signing up for the next "big thing" from Apple. I'm sure there are tens of thousands of other users who feel equally "used" by Apple on this.
I'm marking the question ANSWERED and closing the thread.  iCloud is iCrap and nothing I've experienced with it in six months has changed that opion and the fact that you can get a gmail account operating in MAIL in 2 minutes but you can't get an iCloud email alias working in five hours is just more fuel on that bonfire.
Thank you again for your couresty and your time.  I doubt if my business account, which has to be downgraded to iCloud in a few months, will function at first and I doubt if the 10-year-old alias on that account will continue to function in MAIL.
    Mike

  • Why can I not send e-mails from my e-mail account? I can receive e-mails. Not an iCloud account. It is a Bell Aliant account.

Why can I not send e-mails from my e-mail account? I can receive e-mails. It is not an iCloud account it is a Bell Aliant account. An account I pay for.
This is the second time in three months this has occurred. Bell Aliant suggested I contact Apple directly as the only option is to remove my e-mail account and reconfigure it. This will mean losing all my files. These files are very important as my account is a business account.
Bell Aliant thought perhaps it is an Apple problem and that Apple may better be able to remedy the situation without me losing my e-mail files.

    Sorry ?
An Internet email provider losses all your Mail and it's Apple's fault ??
Did they explain how the app managed to delete all of your mail and then not even let you have access ?
If that was the case the app should still be able to access the empty folders.
I know there is often blame and counter blame in these situations but there are limits.

  • IPhone Mail App not showing all messages

I have set my iphone mail settings to show 500 recent messages, but it only shows 10 messages - how do i get past this problem?

What Kind of email account is it.
If the account is Gmail or Yahoo, those are IMAP accounts which all messages can be retrieved from the server over and over again if you remove the account and re-add it.
Now if you are using like a SBC-Global, ATT.net, Bellsouth, Anything that is a POP3 Account it will only download new message and not past ones.

  • IPhone mail inbox grey for IMAP account

I am having trouble with the main inbox folder on IMAP email accounts being greyed out on the iPhone. Greyed out meaning I cannot select the inbox and look at my mail. Only the inbox is grey, subfolders are black and I can read mail in them.
Two separate IMAP accounts worked fine in the past, with exactly the same settings & credentials. Now both exhibit the same behavior.
Yes, I've recreated the accounts from scratch on the iPhone.
Yes, I've tried using 'INBOX' in the IMAP path
Does anyone know what the grey represents in terms of an error message?
Any fixes for the this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

Guys... not sure if this helps but it's worth mentioning. I'm beta testing a system at work for an upcoming change of email servers in the next 8 months or so. I have been using my 3G up until yesterday with no problems and then suddenly my inbox started being greyed out. Every once in a while when going back to the home screen then choosing mail again I might get placed into the inbox where new messages could be read or deleted. Going back out of the inbox would result in a greyed out choice. I did try removing/adding/etc the settings and even creating new profiles. All were the same. I upgraded to 2.1 this morning and same issue.
Now the only thing I did differently prior to having problems is that I accidentally created subfolders in my INBOX. I'm running UWIMAP 2007B on the backend and Perdition as the front end proxy server with a self signed SSL certificate. The mailbox format being used is MIX therefore subfolders are supported. I did remove all traces of the subfolders and the problem continued so I'm not 100% sure that was the cause, however, it is strange that I have had this mailbox configured since July 17th and no so much as a hiccup until the subfolders were created. Thunderbird or mail.app had no problems during any of this accessing my inbox and folders. It was only the iphone giving me grief. Anyway, removing the folders had no good outcome so I started searching the web. Coming across multiple posts that say use INBOX as the imap prefix folder, I decided to try that. That worked great but since my other folders were in ~/mail that caused those folders to not appear. The easy solution is to move move those out of ~/mail and under INBOX. If you are using dovecot or another server that supports subfolders this should work as the INBOX is simply a directory with dotfiles that contain the data. All of my folders are now under the INBOX and the iphone appears to be happy. My inbox is accessible and I have all of my other folders at my fingertips.
I hope this will help at least one of you out there. It's been very annoying but glad it was figured out.

  • HT4759 My contacts on my iphone 5 do not match what is in my icloud contacts.  The contacts on my iphone 5 are the most current.  Anything I add on my iphone 5 contacts does not show in my icloud account.

I am very frustrasted with trying to get my iophne 5c contacts list to sync with my icloud contact list.   The new contacts I add to my iphone do not show up in my icloud contacts.  What am I doing wrong?

If your default account was set to iCloud in settings, it should be created in the iCloud account regardless of how you create it on the phone.
Try adding a new test contact using the contacts app, then go to icloud.com from your computer and see if it appears there now.
Also, what accounts were listed in the Default Account setting on your phone besides iCloud?  (Don't post your email addresses, just tell me what providers were listed there, such as On My iPhone, Gmail, Yahoo, Exchange, etc.)

  • Can no longer see old or saved messages in iphone mail inbox

I updated my phones software yesterday upon request and now i can no longer see old or saved messages in my inbox.  I can see the n ew ones when they arrive, and this problem is restricted only to the inbox as i can see messages in the junk and sent folders fine.

Try a reset of the device by pressing and holding the home and power button for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

  • Gmail Issue: iPhone & Web Mailbox Not Matching

We're having a strange issue with an iPhone.  We have a Gmail account set up on it, and the Inbox tells us that we have ~7000 emails.  We have logged into the account online and the Inbox (correctly) shows as having 20 emails.
In the Account settings, we have the following set up in the Advanced menu:
    Mailbox Behaviors:
    Drafts Mailbox      Drafts>
    Deleted Mailbox     Trash>
    Archive Mailbox     All Mail>
    Move Discarded Messages Into:
    Deleted Mailbox
    Archive Mailbox (checked)
Has anyone else encountered this?  It's like the phone is pulling any message, spam or otherwise, into the Inbox, whether it was deleted on the web or not.  It's annoying because the Mail icon on the iPhone shows as having 7000+ unread messages when that is not remotely true.
    We have tried:
    Removing and re-adding the account.
    Rebooting the iPhone.
    Nothing seems to work.  Suggestions?

I think I've diagnosed and resolved the issue!
I would drag my PSD to my external monitor and use the color picker to get the hex value. But, for no particular reason, I tried matching the color on my Macbook's monitor and I noticed the hex value was different. So I inserted that value instead of the one generated while using my external and sure enough, my colors match now.
I guess an extension of my original question would be: has anyone else experienced this issue? Why does this happen? And how can I adjust my current monitor to match my Macbook's monitor?
    Thank you!
PS One very important thing I forgot: I switched from using the Adobe color picker to using the Mac color picker. You can change this by going to "Photoshop" -> "Preferences" -> "General" -> "Color Picker" and choosing "Apple".

  • IPhone mail app not showing number of unread messages on home screen

My wife's iPhone has the mail app synced to her Gmail account and everything appears set to "push", but no notification appears onscreen when she gets a email. She has to open the app and then mail downloads.i

    Hello queenbea4,
You may need to place a tick mark for "Include when automatically checking for new messages" under the Advanced pane of your iCloud account's settings in Mail's Preferences. This can be found by going to the Mail menu, then to Preferences. Under the Accounts tab, choose your iCloud account, then the Advanced tab to the right.

  • Iphone mail app not receiving e-mail from 1 sender

The Mail app on my iPhone 6/iOS 8.3 is not receiving e-mail from one sender sent to my Outlook e-mail account. This sender's e-mail address is "[email protected]". It is a notification of digital magazines available from Zinio. I know the mail app is not receiving the e-mail because Outlook 2013 on my desktop and Outlook.com do receive these e-mails. How can I get the mail app on my iPhone to receive these e-mails from this address?

Initially it sounds like something with your backup data caused the issue with your new device but if you restored your device again without using the backup and the issue still exists it wouldn't appear to be the issue at all. Since the problem seems to only be with one person are you sure it's not an issue on their end and with their network that is stopping you from receiving the messages? Have you tried *228 option 2 to see if that helps?

  • IPhone mail app not sending notifications

I use the mail app for iphone to check my college email,
usually it sends notifications when I receive a new messege but it is not sending any more (No sounds, no banners, no badges),
Although the email app is in Notification Center when I check it in the settings
Is that beacuse I Use IMAP Not POP ?

If Mail is in the notification center and the badge icon is on, alert is on, and ect... Try to reset your device holding home and sleep/wake button; Wait til the Apple logo appears and then let go of the buttons and wait for reboot. Has nothing to do with what type of email account you are using.
