IPhone not connected not recognized after Leopard install

OK, so all was well with my iPhone and this weekend I installed Leopard, and now my iPhone has only been recognized once by my computer. I plug it in to it's cradle (as always) and no charging happens and it does not show up in iTunes. I have tried both of my available USB ports (no hubs involved) and neither one works, yet my other USB devices work just fine. I tried a new cable, it does not work, and I also plugged in the cable direct to an outlet and my phone charges just fine. All updates are installed. The only way I got it to work that one time was to turn my computer off and then on, but I've tried that this morning and even that does not work. I have no way to sync. Please help me!

Laura Brown1,
If the iPhone is not seeing power from the USB port, try reseting the iPhone first.
If its still not seeing power, or being seen by the computer, reset the PMU, and then try it again. For some models of Mac the PMU is replaced by a SMC instead.
This article has information about PowerMac G5's with a PMU:

Hope this helps,

  • IPhone not recognized after Leopard and iTunes 7.6 upgrade -- solution

I did the iTunes 7.6 upgrade and then the Leopard install this past weekend. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried to sync my phone... iTunes didn't recognize that it was there, although I had power, etc.
Briefly, the solution is to reinstall iTunes 7.6. It may well be that if you do Leopard and then 7.6 you're fine, but I ended up doing it the other way.
This link below is to the relevant thread on the iPhone forum:

Thank you Jennifer. That was very helpful. I'm new to Apple MacOS. Not new to computing by any stretch however, having been a DE at Sun for 9 years, 2 years at Cisco and a couple of lesser known startups in Silly Valley. I hope their are more folks like you on these forums, and fewer like 'South Beach'. Thanks again for the iPhoto tip, that was very helpful. I did get the iPhone 'fixed' by re-installing the iTunes 7.6 pkg. You wouldn't happen to know how to turn off the boogus status icon in my launcher bar (top of screen) that complains about .Mac 'conflicts'? I don't have a .Mac account and don't want one. When I select 'review conflicts now' nothing happens, no dialogue, no new windows, nothing. This glyph appeared after I installed Leopard. I am less than impressed with this release from Cupertino.

  • Airport Card Not Recognized after Leopard Install

After the Leopard install the airport card on my Dual 1.8 G5 is not being recognized (the airport menu reads "no aiport card installed". Of course there is a card and when booting a from Tiger there is no problem. It's a stock apple airport card. Any suggestions?

    Interesting update...
After reading several other threads of semi-related topics, I decided that there's no harm in reinstalling the software. After placing in the disk and restarting you get the WELCOME splash screen. On the menu bar, you can choose to view the System Profiler prior to installation. My Airport Card did how up here - telling me that it's not a hardware issue. I'm in the process of re-installing 10.5 - which will take 1-2 hours to complete. I'll let you know how it works out.

  • IPhone not recognized after Mac security update

I have a Mac iBook G4 running OSX 10.4.11, and an iPhone 3G running OS 3.0. Up to now they have worked fine together. The phone was charged on the iBook this morning. This afternoon I ran software update on the Mac which installed the latest security update (2009-05, I think). After that, the phone is not recognized when plugged in the USB port. It no longer charges, nor is it recognized by iTunes.
I have checked the following to be sure that the security update is the culprit:
The iPhone with the same cable works fine on another Mac (running 10.5).
Other devices (thumb drive, printer) work fine in the same USB ports.
Finally, I restarted the iBook from the original installation CD for OSX 10.4. When running with the original version, the iPhone is recognized correctly.
So, I am reporting a problem with the security update, and I need to know how to back it off, or how to get it fixed.
    Thanks for any help.
NOTE: Software update also installed iTunes 9.0.1 along with updates to Quicktime and Safari. However, none of these apps even have to be running to show that the phone will not charge.

The problem was solved by resetting the System Management Unit, thanks to a helpful phone call with an Apple Expert. On the iBook this required unplugging, removing the battery, and holding the power button in for 15 seconds.
Earlier I tried zapping the PRAM, as someone suggested, but the phone was not recognized. But it turns out it did show up in the System Profiler.
I have no idea why this happened in the first place, right after the software update.

  • External DVD drive not recognized with Leopard install

I just installed Leopard and my external firewire DVD drive (LG; GSA-5120D) is not recognized.
I used patchburn for Tiger to recognize it but there is not Leopard version. any ideas? thx

    answered!
I used Patchburn with Tiger. After I removed the Patchburn generated drivers from Library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles and restarted, it now works fine.

  • Iphone not recognized after upgrading to itunes 8.2

Phone not recognized in itunes after the 8.2 update, is this a bug?

Ok, I've found a workaround on another thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9658855).
According to that poster (he has an iPod Touch), Apple Tech Support told him to disconnect his computer from the Internet, and then try to connect his iPod Touch. This worked for him. I just tried it and it works reliably.
After reading the post I plugged out my Internet connection from my laptop, and then connect my iPhone. It was detected. I repeated this 4 more times and each time the device was detected and came up in my iTunes sidebar. I then restarted my machine and tried it again 5 times. It worked all 5 times. When I reconnected my machine to the Internet, the problem came back the very next time I plugged my phone in.

  • Built-in camera in Cinema Display not recognized after SL Install

Is anyone else having this problem? After installing the Snow Leopard upgrade, my system no longer recognizes the Cinema Display build in camera, not in iChat and not in Photo Booth. Help!

What I've done is create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The new account is using default settings (for Snow Leopard), so it is a good basis for comparison tests. Your issue would be a good use for it.
After creating that new admin user account, log out and log in to the new account. Try the thing that does not work, in the new account. If it works in the new account, the problem is not technically Snow Leopard, but some conflict with something in your existing pre- Snow Leopard user account. It might be some user preference file that you have to trash or some background process that is conflicting, but you can focus troubleshooting on your normal user account as the cause.
If it still does not work in the new account, then the problem is likely to be a bug in the overall system, or a hardware issue.

  • Canon MP 600 Printer not working after Leopard Install

I installed the Leopard OS and now my Canon MP 600 printer that purchased at the MAC store with my Mac in Aug of this year. It was working properly prior to the Leopard install. I tried re-installing the printer drivers, but no change. I can see my MP 600 as the only printer available. I am also unable to even print a 'test' page. When I run the Network Diagnostics everything is fine, but no printing.
    Any suggestions?

I tried this. I also tried updating the CUPS config file as was noted elsewhere. The printer is a total no-show on Leopard.
It is being served by an older G4 whose only job is to serve the printer.
On Tiger it would just *be there* to print to. All the Panther computers see it as a "shared printer" in the printer box.
In Leopard.... not a &^^&% thing.
    Not happy.

I was given advice to re-install these programs, but that ended up deleting iPhoto, which is another issue I am now dealing with. I tried re-installing iLife09 from the receipt file but it told me that I must have Mac OS 10.5.5 or higher, I have 10.6:
This is really bugging me, not sure what to do. Everything was working fine up until the Snow Leopard install. I also do not have the entire computer backed up anywhere, just my music and important documents so using Time Machine isn't an option unfortunately.
    Please help!

IMO, you have only one realistic option if you want to try to fix things as they stand (ignoring iPhoto) (i.e., without doing and erase and install and having an original iLife install DVD). Try a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed. You will need to reinstall the 10.6.2 combo updater.
If this approach does not work, then I think that you have lost the iLife apps unless you have a related original install DVD. If you do, then you can do an erase and install of Sno and reinstall the iLife apps.
Another possibility is to do an archive and install. Generally speaking, such an install is not very likely to yield an acceptable installation. Under your circumstances, I would say their is only a tiny probability that you would end up with a decent install.

  • Administrative Password Not Recognized After Clean Install

I had my hard drive replaced by Apple. They did install Mountain Lion. Fortunately I backed with Time Machine my data. When I started the computer for the first time I selected the option to transfer the data from a Time Machine back up. Everything went fine, registration was sent to Apple, logged into the wireless network etc. The last step asked me to log into my account, but the password is not recognized. I am sure of my password. There is nothing else I can do but restarting the computer. There is no option to go back at the beggining. I tried to boot to recovery partition ( by Holding down command r when the computer is off and reboot) so I can reset the admin password but it takes me again to the same screen where I have to put my password that is not recognized. I would really appreciate any help! Thanks

I'm not sure I fully understand which screen it is booting into, but it sounds like Apple's Genius may have already set up your computer with a Password, in which case I might try assuming that he left the "password" selection blank.  When the screen asks for your password, have you tried just hitting the "enter" key while leaving the box blank?  Failing that, i would probably suggest, I'm sorry to say, returning to the Store and having them diagnose what is wrong with THEIR installation of Mountain Lion.
    Hope this helps

  • Virgin Mobile Ovation 760 not recognized after lion install

So far I LOVE LOVE Lion.  However one challenge that I am having is that my Ovation 760 is not recognized by the broadband2go software.  Does anyone have any advice, tips, ideas to try...?

I figured it out by reading some other threads here. The problem is that Lion defaults into the 64-bit kernel, and the Novatel driver works only with a 32-bit kernel.
To fix this problem, hold down the "3" and "2" keys while the computer is restarting.

  • MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

    Hi,
I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?
    Thank you

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

  • ISight Camera not working after Leopard install

On my 1st gen Intel 20" iMac, after the Leopard upgrade -- which went very smoothly -- my iSight camera no longer works. I have tried it in Photo Booth and iChat Video and it is the same in each, so it is the camera, apparently, not the application using it.
In the self-viewing screen on my iMac, I see myself for just a second or so, then I fade out quickly and there is nothing to see but black. If I shine a desk lamp in my face, then I can just barely see the outline of my image but the picture is mostly black. It seems like an exposure problem: the camera seems to adjust, shutting down as though I am very brightly lit but since I am not, it produces only a black picture.
I also have a 1st gen Intel white MacBook that I have also upgraded to Leopard. The iSight camera seems to work just fine on that computer. I tried out the video in Photo Booth and it worked great.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I too am having the same problem, and I'm using the old school iSight camera and immediately after installing Leopard, it won't work. I can't even power up the camera. It will power up for about 3 seconds then power down as fast as the little green light came on. It was fine about an hour before the 10.5 install. I powered down and unplugged everything for about 10 mins. then plugged it all back in, and still not working. So I am back to the drawing board trying to sort this out. If anyone has anymore thoughts on this, pls. chime in. All the suggestions seem to work for you folks after a little tweak. I even booted into OF mode and reset-nvram and reset-all for kicks to give it an even fresher start.
    thanks!

  • Photo Booth not working after Leopard install

I have a mac mini and a ViewSonic VX2235wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in). Before installing Leopard, the web cam worked with iChat and Photo Booth, without the need for any additional drivers. After installing Leopard, iChat works, but not Photo Booth. Here's what I get when I open the app:

I've tried the 3rd party driver apps, but I get the same results. Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem with the ViewSonic VX2255wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in).
On Leopard it works fine with iChat, but does the same squiggly mess as your snapshot when run with Photo Booth.
