IPhone SDK Multi-Touch Bug?

Hi,
I'm trying to handle multi-touch events and this is the bug I'm seeing ( using SDK beta 4 ):
The first touch I make has a valid position ( using locationInView instance method ). However, any touches made while the first touch is being held down have invalid positions ( 0,0 ). Here's my code:
// Handle touch events
- (void)touchesChangedWithEvent:(UIEvent*)event
printf( "* TOUCHES CHANGED EVENT!\n" );
NSSet *touches = [event allTouches];
for( UITouch *touch in touches )
// Grab the location of the touch
CGPoint touchPos = [touch locationInView:self];
// Touch began
if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseBegan )
printf( "**** TOUCH BEGAN AT ( %f, %f )\n", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputSetNewTouch();
iRKInputSetPos( touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
// Touch moved
else if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseMoved )
printf( "**** TOUCH MOVED AT ( %f, %f )\n", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputSetPos( touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
// Touch stationary
else if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseStationary )
printf( "**** TOUCH STATIONARY AT ( %f, %f )\n", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputSetPos( touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
// Touch ended
else if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseEnded )
printf( "**** TOUCH ENDED AT ( %f, %f )\n", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputClearTouch();
iRKInputResetPos();
Anyone else seeing this? Or am I doing something wrong?
Also, any help on displaying source code would be appreciated too
Thanks!
- Bryan

So, with the following multiple event code I seem to be getting an even worse problem: Multiple touches aren't even triggering the events and my first touch is always the only UITouch in the set ( even when I have two or three fingers touching the screen ). This is on the device using SDK beta 4.
// Handles the start of a touch
- (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event
printf( "* TOUCH BEGAN
for( UITouch *touch in touches )
// Grab the location of the touch
CGPoint touchPos = [touch locationInView:self];
// Touch began
//if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseBegan )
printf( "**** TOUCH BEGAN AT ( %f, %f )
", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputSetNewTouch();
iRKInputSetPos( touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
// Handles the continuation of a touch.
- (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event
printf( "* TOUCH MOVED
for( UITouch *touch in touches )
// Grab the location of the touch
CGPoint touchPos = [touch locationInView:self];
// Touch moved
//if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseMoved )
printf( "**** TOUCH MOVED AT ( %f, %f )
", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputSetPos( touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
// Handles the end of a touch event.
- (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event
printf( "* TOUCH ENDED
for( UITouch *touch in touches )
// Grab the location of the touch
CGPoint touchPos = [touch locationInView:self];
// Touch ended
//if( touch.phase == UITouchPhaseEnded )
printf( "**** TOUCH ENDED AT ( %f, %f )
", touchPos.x, touchPos.y );
iRKInputClearTouch();
iRKInputResetPos();
So when this is run and press the screen I get correct messages output to the console telling me a touch began / moved with the correct position. However, when I keep that press held and press somewhere else I get no other messages. When I move the first touch ( while keeping both touches held to the screen ) it gives me correct messages again but yet it's the only UITouch object in "touches".
Anyone else seeing problems with this?
Any help would be great! Thanks!

  • IPhone and multi-touch

    I assume everyone has been following the iPhone announcement
    today:
    http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/live-from-macworld-2007-steve-jobs-keynote/
    I also am assuming that since it runs OS X, we can download
    Flash 8 & 9
    desktops apps (and even created standalone). Correct?
    But what we really need is to be able to tap into the
    multi-touch interface:
    1. stretching and zooming photography
    2. zooming and exploring maps
    3. getting all one's fingers into intereractive paint and
    draw tools, etc.
    I used a multi-touch at SIGGRAPH Boston 2006
    http://cs.nyu.edu/~jhan/ftirtouch/
    ) and it is very very cool.
    Is Adobe partnering with Apple to produce special fscommands
    for a iPhone
    centric version of Flash?
    [I have a huge load of apps and ideas, as well as a startup
    company if Adobe
    will pursue this!]
    Dr. Yechezkal Gutfreund - Adobe ACE for Mobile Devices

    Mark, right on.
    It would be a logical platform for Flash given some of its
    core
    philosophy in its design. However, the details about OSX and
    Safari
    support are still far too vague as you point out below.
    It wouldn't surprise me in the least, if they modified "OSX"
    to "OSX
    Mobile" as they move closer to deployment ... but, perhaps
    all they need
    is a kernel to technically call it "OSX"? Not sure.
    Speaking of which ... I think we are forgetting too, how
    stable Symbian
    and other mobile device centric OSes and platforms are. How
    long have
    they been working at "OSX for the iPhone", one year? perhaps
    two? Looks
    impressive in the demo ... but it's only a demo. How much was
    "off the
    cuff" and not stagged, we have no way of knowing ...
    My point being, a SBOD ("spinning ball of death") on a mobile
    device
    might equate to a death sentence (well, for a first time user
    iPhone
    experiences), *even* with all the great UI and features
    they've added.
    Here's hoping they do some exhaustive device and field
    testing before
    rollout later this year ... in order to limi the amount of
    software
    and/or firmware updates they have to do later on (we've seen
    that on the
    initial IPods to be sure) ...
    All in all, I'm hopeful, given Apple's track record with
    previous
    desktop versions of OSX and delivering stable releases (well
    more
    reliable and complete than say, Microsoft), they'll have
    something worth
    putting on the iPhone come end of year. Time will tell.

  • Iphone 5 multi touch spoiled

    Hi,
    I recently updated my iphone 5 (approx 2 yrs old) from ios 7.1 to 7.1.1
    Post this, the iphone display is going nuts. Most of the time it will not recognise the touch.
    I have to lock and unlock the phone to get the touch work (still it will work only for 4-5 seconds and becomes unresponsive again).
    I restored but to no help. I contacted the apple service centre and they told me that due to the update multi touch is spoiled.
    They checked that it is not due to any liquid spillage or any other thing.
    But they cannot help me as the warranty is expired and quoting huge amount to get the phone replaced.
    Anybody else faced similar issue after softwares update?
    If yes, how can I get this fixed
    TIA

    Hi pogster,
    I got the above reply from apple authorized service center. They after checking the phone told that the update might have failed to recognize the display component and hence have this issue.
    I again contacted apple support over chat and the guy confirmed the update has failed to recognize as the particular display component has hardware issue.
    Apple support -->
    "it’s indicating that there was an issue with the component with the touch screen not accepting the update. There can be a number of different causes. In this scenario it’s just indicating an internal communication issue."
    Due to the hardware issue, that’s why we’re experiencing this problem. The issue isn’t due to the update, that would indicate a software issue which during a restore and setup as new would be resovled.
    It wasn’t caused due to the update. It’s indicating that issue was already there with that component. The update, confirmed the issue with the hardware component."
    He told me to get it replaced by paying an out of warranty price.
    But I dont understand that if there was an hardware issue accepting updates, then why the phone got updated to next software version. It was working properly with the previous version.

  • Hey! My iPhone 4 Multi-Touch display Freezes Up???

    Lately the Multi-Touch screen freezes up! Won't respond to my touch! Even when I tried to power it down, I'm unable to get the "arrow bar" to respond!!! It wasn't until a few tries pressing both the "power down button & reset button" that I was I was finally able to turn it off & power it up to finally get the screen to respond to my touch.
    Is this a hardware issue or software??

    Probally your handset, no one else that I know of has had the issue.

  • Iphone 4 multi-tasking bug?

    I'm using the latest software (4.1).
    Just wondering if anyone else has noticed how apps like iTunes are shown 2x in the menu (implying two versions are running) when you go into multi-tasking mode. While you seemingly can shut down one without ill effects, it sure seems like a bug to me....
    Also, I'd think any app that runs audio SHOULD use the native pop-up menu to select output (I use Bluetooth headset, as well as an in-car FM transmitter). Usually the iPhone switches without hassle, but it seems some apps (e.g. TWIT's player) don't offer the option to switch output.

    My apologies: I meant to type 'iPod' app, where it seems the iPhone will run multiple instances of it, esp. if you're using another app which relies on the iPod app (e.g. GPS Drive Motion X). Wish I could do a screen capture of my iPhone, showing how it's possible to run two instances of the same app (e.g. iPod).
    I'm finding that the intra-app details btwn 3rd party apps is variable, as if there is no standard for how a 3rd party app utilizes the core functionality of iOS 4.1 (e.g. audio pop-up selectors: I note that iPod uses a built-in audio selector, including that Bluetooth icon, whereas many 3rd-party apps don't).
    Guess I'm saying that it would be nice if Apple applied a bit more control of interface design for 3rd party apps, as it would be good to ensure a somewhat standardized approach for any apps running on the iPhone....

  • Bug on multi touch screen

    iPad 2 multi touch bug
    http://youtu.be/ck-9aYD8u3k
    the same happend to me with my iPod Touch 4G some times.
    but never happend that on my iPad 2.
    im using iOS 5.0.1, with out jailbreak.

    Have you tried a reset to see if that helps ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    Also do you have any problems when multi-tasking gestures are turned off ?

  • IPhone SDK - trouble working with iPod Touch 2G

    Hello, new Macbook OSX 10.5.4, new iPod Touch running iPhone OS 2.1. Just downloaded and installed xcode 3.1.1 and newest iPhone SDK.
    I read the iPhone OS Pre-Installation Advisory document found here:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/download.action?path=/iphone/iphoneos_software_preinstallation_advisory/iphone_os_2.1_preinstallationadvisory.pdf
    I created shortcut:
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1.1/
    pointed to:
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1/
    Checked the shortcut, it works.
    Start xcode, open Window->Orgnizer. "Xcode cannot find the software image to install this version" is showing up just below the "Software Version" line. Software version has a value of 2.1.1 (5F138).
    If I ignore this and continue to build, sign and try the application. I will receive an error message "Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE800003A) during the install phase: Verifying application" I tried disconnect the iPod Touch, power off, power on. Same problem.
    I tried to make a complete copy in (not a shortcut):
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1.1/
    Same problem.
    What should I do to trace this issue?

    I wanted to compile and upload the sample app Accelerometer Graph onto my brand new ipod touch 16.
    I got the notorious error (0xE800003A) during the install phase, verifying.
    i checked all the product id#'s which i just copied/pasted when creating the certificates etc.... so i don't know what's wrong... so what IS wrong?
    here's the logs:

  • How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch have at the same time?

    How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad have at the same time?
    I am curious as IIRC (but forgot where the article is on the Internet),
    if a touch surface is wanted to be able to detect more than 1 touch point at the same time,
    then that touch surface needs adding 1 more conductive(?) layer.
    (e.g. 2 points -> 2 layers, and so on)
    So I wonder how many these layers are on the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad or even the trackpad on every MacBook (Pro).
    (correct me if I'm wrong)
    Just curious, thanks in advance!

    I believe it can only support 2. This article explains how the touch screen works but doesn't explicitly say how many points is supports.

  • IPhone SDK with iPod Touch 2G problem

    I installed the SDK last night but when I went to plug in my iPod Touch 2G, I got the error message: 'Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image. Please re-install the SDK'
    I have reinstalled the SDK many times but still get the same error message. Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    {quote}He's talking about the iPod Touch, not a regular iPod{quote}
    Yep, I know. Do a Google search for "Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image". Found this on the comments of [this blog post|http://www.tbradford.org/2008/03/iphone-sdk-beta-2-possible-ppc-fix.html]:
    {quote}
    If anyone else runs into the "Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image." problem, there's a package called "DeveloperDiskImage" in the iPhone SDK that needs to be installed.
    As of 2.1, these are the extra packages that you need to install manually:
    iPhoneSDKHeadersAndLibs
    iPhoneSimulatorPlatform
    iPhoneHostSideTools
    iPhoneDocumentation
    DeveloperDiskImage

    Another [blog post|http://khakionion.blogspot.com/2008/09/iphone-sdk-21-doesnt-include-ipod-t ouch.html#links] says:

    The problem is that the huuuuuge iPhone SDK 2.1 installer doesn't come with the iPod touch 2.1 firmware image. Suck. Fear not, though: All you have to do is force iTunes to do a firmware restore, which will download the appropriate image. On next launch, Xcode will find it and everything will work great.

  • TS4443 Unable to sync multi touch ibooks from iPad to iphone

    Hi,
    Purchased and downloaded a multi touch book from ibooks to iPad air, but it does not sync to iPhone.
    Can it? Should it be able to?
    Thanks

    Does the book's description in the store say that it's compatible with iPhones ? If it is then what happens when you try to sync it via your computer's iTunes ? Have you tried redownloading it directly on your phone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app ?

  • Multi-touch too sensitive iPhone 5

    I have been experiencing a very annoying problem. I have changed my iPhone 5 twice already because of this.
    When I try to write something, it keeps closing my keyboard, pressing buttons without me touching it. It closes the app I am using, or decides by itself to add a picture to my conversation.
    It looks like the screen is way too sensitve and that it multi-touches every button available, to a point that I cant even have a proper txt msg conversation anymore. It has a life of its own.
    Any suggestions of how I can solve this problem?

    http://www.imore.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-iphone-ipad-walkthrough/   looks likethe multi touch is only available for the ipad 2.

  • Multi-Touch Gesturing on iPhone 4

    Hi guys, i did the whole XCode via MacBook Pro thing with my iPad 2, that gave me Multi-Touch Gesturing which is sooo sweet....4-5 finger swipe accross apps, 4-5 finger swipe up to show the mult-tasking pane; 4-5 finger pinch-close to get to the home screen........What can beat that??????
    Issue is , I tried to do the same steps (via Xcode on my MacBook) for my iPhone but it doesnt work on my iPhone..the  feature doesnt exist in settings.... , maybe they just built it for iPad?
    Does anyone know?

    Agreed. I just assumed it would be functional on my fancy new 4s, I was shocked that it was missing! I stared at the settings panel for way too long, then busted out the iPad and compared settings panels, indeed, the toggle is completely absent on the iPhone!
    A three finger up/down for task bar, left/right for app switch, and pinch for home would be awesome.

  • Multi-touch iBook on an iPhone?

    My company has recently submitted a Multi-touch iBook and received approval. Some of our customers have been confused why they can not open it on their iPhone.  This is not something I expected, but now that phones with bigger screens are available, I supposed these iBooks are more usable.  Is this a feature that Apple will introduce?
    Thanks!

    We are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know what Apple might be planning until if/when they announce something, but at the moment they can only be read on iPads - you can't open any ibooks created in iBooks Author on iPhones.

  • So I just bought an iPhone 5s and Touch ID was working fine until the software update is that a bug ? Because I don't think my home button broke

    So I just bought an iPhone 5s and Touch ID was working fine until the software update is that a bug ? Because I don't think my home button broke

    Have not heard of that but here is what I would do - test after each step to see if the problem is solved
    1. Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    2. If that does not work - back up to iTunes and restore to factory settings
    3. Check to see if the problem is resolved before restoring from backup

  • Major sound bug with 2.1 and some apps on 2.1 tested on iphone 3g and touch

    I have noticed that when playing Toy Bots on 2.1 both iphone 3g and touch there is horrible screaching in some sounds. When you use the lightning bolt to swing the sound is terrible and will kill your ears even at a low volume. I also discovered asphault has the same problem when you are racing and go off the road etc. Didnt happen before 2.1

    I am also having the same problem. Seems that all the sounds associated with user-initiated actions are insanely loud and overdriven, whereas the music in the background is at normal volume. Same things apply to the free app Cube Runner, and this is def. a result of the upgrade to 2.1. I have tried restarting the phone, the computer, etc, even removing and reinstalling Cube Runner to no avail. At least I know I'm not the only one having this issue, but aside from the fact that it had my 6 yaer-old bawling his eyes out, it's a real drag!
