  • Iphone 4G troubles. Won't charge and computer won't recognize it.?

I plugged my Iphone4 into the USB and it will not connect to my charger or computer. Therefore it won't charge. I turned my phone off and it is showing that it needs to be charged but is not recognized by my computer and won't charge via wall charger. Yes, I have tried different cables and still no luck. If anyone has any great ideas to fix it, I would love to hear it so my phone can be fixed. Thanks.

I got this phone as a gift and I think the warranty is up. Since I didn't cause this problem would I be able to get a new phone or would I have to buy it? I need one because this is my only phone and need it back up ASAP for work and school. Thanks for your help.

  • IPhone won't charge, won't sync, won't do anything...

My (1 month old) iPhone 3GS won't charge. Not via USB, or mains adapter. It just flashes up the "battery almost empty please charge me" icon even when plugged in. When plugged into the computer a message comes up "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub to which it is attached to will be deactivated". The USB drive(s) are fine, all other things plugged in work absolutely fine so it's definitely the iPhone.
I have spoken to Apple via my Service Provider (Orange). The woman said she was sending me a list of things to try, though since I can't even turn the phone on or plug it in to the computer I can't really do anything. However her email hasn't even arrived. Can anyone help me with a list of things that I should try (which is presumably what she is supposed to have sent me) so I can get back to them and get a new iPhone? I need to be contactable for work and this is a real problem.

I don't have any other USB devices connected - I've just tried others to check that its the phone not hte computer. All others devices work fine when connected. Surely it's the phone not the computer - as I said it won't even charge when plugged directly into the main using the iPhone mains charger?
The OS on this laptop is actually 10.5.8. Will try restarting it again now but I think my other half tried that last night

  • Iphone won't charge after overheat warning

Ok so every night I go to sleep I plug in my phone to charge, play some youtube videos or listen to music or podcasts( on the official apple app) until i fall asleep and every morning I have woken up to a fully charged phone, I have been doing this for about 1Year and 5Months no issues, however about a week ago I fell asleep listen to a podcast, whilst my phone was charging, when I woke up  the next morning I went to grab my phone and found that there was an overheating warning, i mean It was so hot I couldn't hold the phone for more than five seconds, so I placed it on my window sill(outside) for five minutes and it cooled down and worked perfectly, next few nights I listened to music and the issue didn't occur, however, two nights ago I listens to a podcast again and when I woke up the next morning my phone was 100% charged but boiling again with the heat warning, this time I hung it in front of my fan until it cooled down, after a full days use of my phone( no performance issues) I went to charge it up, this night I did not listen to anything, when I woke up the next morning 10hours later my phone had gone from 10% battery to only 18%, it had been like it ever since and just won't charge, is there an issues withy charging dock on my phone or my battery? Many thanks
(i have already cleaned charging dock with toothbrush and tried different sockets and leads)

    (SOLVED)
After 10+ hours, Since it works in the BIOS screens, I decided to wipe the drivers.
Plugged my phone into a driverless windows and it works fine.
The reinstalled drivers did not work for me because I didn't manually wipe the driver files
Plugged my plugged my iPhone in and everything suddenly works
Next I have to go to war with my malfunctioning windows update
Thanks zelous for the suggestion, though it didn't work because my iPhone wouldn't connect at all. it did point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  • IMAC, iMovie, iPhoto will not recognize iPhone, won't charge either

    Hello All:
I just took some video with my iPhoto 3GS, and connected my iPhone to my iMac only to find that:
iPhone is not recognized by either iTunes, iPhoto or iMovie and what's more it won't charge. That is, my iMAC can't detect iPhone as a connected device. I went to the Apple support page and ran through all of the troubleshooting steps (except clean uninstall and reinstall of iTunes.)
As a control, I connected iPhone to my MacBook and all fine: it charges, iTunes recognizes it as a connected device, as do iPhoto and iMovie.
This is a new thing, as when I got the iPhone a month or so ago, I used my iMac to initialize it.
All software up to date, all USB ports on iMAC work, cable is fine.
The ONLY new software I have loaded since I last used iPhone and iMAC together is Snapz Pro X (trial), so I did a thorough (and I mean thorough) uninstall of that...no change.
I live in Spain, so my closest Genius Bar is London, and I'm not flying up with a 24"iMAC under my arm!
    Any help?
    Steve

Isn't it always the last place you look for something is where you'll find it?
Last night when I made the post I was just too tired to delete iTunes and go through the Libraries to scrub out the files.
This morning, with a Cappuccino I did it.
Reloaded a fresh copy of iTunes...all better now.
Perhaps Apple support on this topic should change "on rare occasions you will need to reinstall iTunes" to "you will need to reinstall".
    Anyway, better now.
BTW: the reason all this happened is because I wanted to transfer iPhone videos to my Mac to work on them in iMovie. iMovie won't recognise the iPhone, but, Image Capture does!! Just offloaded the 10 vids from iPhone in .mov format. I'm good to go.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

  • After upgrade to Lion, iPhone won't charge after Mac goes to sleep

I did a clean install of Lion, and have run Software Update. There are no problems with the system, but I noticed that when I plug the iPhone in to the Mac, it won't charge when the Mac goes to sleep.
The iPhone gives the normal charging tone when it gets plugged in, and if I l press the Home button, it displays the charging screen. If I select Sleep from the Apple menu, the Mac goes to sleep and the screen on the iPhone blinks on as if not plugged in, showing the normal unlock screen. When I wake the Mac, the phone beeps and shows the charging screen.
Is there a setting I can change to get the iPhone to continue charging after the Mac goes to sleep?

This behavior is new in my experience, having been on Snow Leopard. I've always just plugged the iPhone into my keyboard since it is very convenient, and it has always charged overnight, even while the Mac slept. So this is not normal behavior for my system.
My question is, has this changed in Lion?

  • Battery won't charge but computer will run off the cords energy

I have the cord plugged in and currently my computer is running off of the power from the wall, not battery power. So it is connecting but it won't charge the battery.
does anybody have any idea on why it isn't working and how i could fix it?

Hi jill not jillian (glad that is cleared up) and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Three possibilities -
    1) The power manager is corrupted. [Reset your SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964] and see if this fixes it.
    2) The battery is bad. If you have one, try with a different battery (assuming yours is one that can be user replaced) and see if that fixes it. If you don't have one, a nearby Apple retail store will have one they can test with. Be sure to [make an appointment|www.apple.com/retail] or you may spend a long time waiting to talk to a Mac Genius.
    3) The computer itself has a problem. If this is the case it will need to be repaired.
    Best of luck.

  • TS3274 ipad won't charge from computer

My Ipad will sync with Itunes but it won't charge while connected to my computer

It's not supposed to.  Use the iPad specific 10W wall charger.  Very few USB ports on a computer put out enough power to charge an iPad.
You might want to read the user guide, which is conveniently bookmarked in Safari on your iPad.

  • IPhone won't sync with computer.

    Hello!
I've had my 3GS since launch and haven't experienced any problems with it yet. A few days ago, out of nowhere, my iPhone stopped syncing with my computer. When I plug the USB into the iPhone it rings, and shows that it's charging, but it doesn't sync in iTunes and iPhoto doesn't auto start like it used to.
I updated iTunes and OSX, but I still can't get my device to recognize!
Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If set to launch automatically when any digital camera is connected, iPhoto will launch automatically when the iPhone is connected only if there are photos and/or video available in the iPhone's camera roll.
Does iPhoto recognize your iPhone when manually launching iPhoto after your iPhone is connected?
Try downloading and re-installing the current iTunes version. No need to uninstall iTunes first before doing so.

  • IPHONE WON'T CHARGE OR START UP

my phone 3gs today will not charge, is now dead, and will not turn on

I had a similar thing happen.  I had it on a USB charger all night on my PC.  It was still dead in the morning, whereas it usually charges in an hour.  It's not like I noticed charge times take longer or shorter lately.  It's not like the phone hasn't been holding a charge lately.  Just last night BAM and it's dead and won't charge.
I brought the phone to work and had it on a different cable charging from my work computer.  Several hours of this and nothing.  I looked online.  I found your post and a few others.  And now, I've got it working.  Here's what I did.
1.) From the screen where it was a red line on a dead battery, I held the power button down until it officially shut down.
2.)  I unplugged the charging cable and took the case off the phone.
3.)  I found a paper clip and used it to remove the SIM card, and left it out for a few seconds.
4.)  I put the SIM card back in, plugged the cable back in, and powered it up - in that order.
After it started up it showed it was fully charged!  Just a minute before it showed as fully drained of charge.  I think that the problem was not with the battery itself but the charge detector.  When you let the charge get too low, it can't even tell how much power is there like when a person has hypothermia and looses simple brain fuction and can't even process sugar as fuel.
If you usually charge in a cradle type charging station, go to Best Buy and get the iPod USB charging cable.  Pop the SIM card out for good luck, and then see if it turns on with the cable plugged in.
By the way, if problems continue you should check the power scheme of your computer's USB ports.  Some have a function that puts to sleep USB ports that are not in use (Windows 7).

  • IPhone won't charge through iTunes

My iPhone 3G will charge when I conect it to the AC Adapter, but for some reason today it won't charge when I connect the same wire to my Macbook. iTunes does not recognise the phone and so therefore I cannot swap tunes on it.
    Any ideas?

Reinstall iTunes. If that doesn't work, remove and reinstall AMDS:

  • Won't charge on computer or in the wall

I have a 2nd gen shuffle, brand new (about a month old) Recently the battery ran out while I was on holiday. When I got home, I plugged it in and it won't charge. I get three flashing amber lights then nothing. All software is updated and I have tried resetting the shuffle (simply switching it off, wait 5 sec, then on again - according to apple). Nothing works.
I tried plugging it into the wall and I get the same thing.
    HELP!!

Wow, how many people have wasted money and time on this product? I was also foolish enough to think the power adapter would help. Personally, I'm on my third unit. It's sitting in the charger right now, doing nothing. No lights. So it's probably dead.
It's time to get a $40 creative MP3 and spend $10 on AA batteries to last me a year. I'll spend another $10 next year and still be ahead of a $70 shuffle and whatever I paid for the power adapter.
And by the way, I never did hear why my other two units were defective. Makes you wonder if they knew this was a problem but continued to sell their product.

  • My iphone won't charge and it cant recognize by my computer

My phone died so i tried to charge it but after 20 minutes nothing happened. but when i hold either the home button or sleep button the apple logo appears and disappears in more than 10 seconds. i tried to reset it but it wont work neither the apple logo just appears and disappears again. i dont want to try restoring for i don't wanna lose all my files. is there another way? please help me

    There is no other way.
If you regularly sync your iPhone with iTunes, you shouldn't lose any data - none whatsoever when restoring your iPhone with iTunes.
Sounds like your iPhone has a hardware problem or failure with the battery or with something else.
